Armin is arguably the best trance DJ right now (PvD, Tiësto and ATB don’t come close anymore), and the songs in his State of Trance series rarely disappoint. I’m surprised to see the 2014 State of Trance release available for $13.99. A no-brainer purchase for anyone who appreciates AvB or trance.

i don't know about this one, i thought ASOT 13 was just okay and this seems to be about the same. i don't hear anything that say the beach one the first cd. they both sound like in the club discs to me. it's okay i guess, but Armin needs to pick it up next year. he can't have 3 sub-par outings in a row.

It's rare that any artist can span several years with good works in their name. It's rarer still that a Trance artist can produce good work that keeps them selling albums year after year. But to be such a master of Trance music which I liken to classical music, is profound beyond compare. In a sea of so-so Djs and imitation artists, being able to distinguish yourself from others year after year for many years and consistently raise standards of the genre is exemplary. Armin Van Buuren does just that. His ability to bring out a natural emotion from his music and his ability to paint a dreamscape in your mind, makes him the Mozart of his craft.

I love trance and also I love AVB but this album has to be the worst I have ever listened to of his work. Old school trance all day over this new crap. ASOT 2005 and 2007 is much better.

Great album. But what I thought were the best songs here weren't quite on par with ASOT 2013's best songs, such as Lullaby Lonely and Jewel. Still, worth every penny. I highly recommend Stole the Sun, U, My Heaven, Medusa and Marathon in this album. Overall, great job, Armin, but as your fan, I encourage you to reach ever higher! Not to nitpick, but you're the best, and you can outdo anybody -- including yourself. :)

Normally I would give this a three-star, but since the reviews are outrageously positive, I will give this a two star to stress the negative part. It does have some trance, and some house. It is fairly high-quality. The biggest issue is that all of the songs are radio edit. If a DJ mix doesn’t fade from one song to the next, that defeats the purpose of a DJ mix in the first place. Beatmixing, beatmatching, and crossfading are crucial elements of a DJ mix. Without them, there’s no point of a DJ mix. If most of the songs were five-to-eight minutes long, and the DJ mix faded from one song to the next, I would give this at least a four-star.

The trance I listened to back in 2000 had compilations with songs of 4-5mins duration. Now 3 mins? Whats next 1 min? Sorry not my cup of tea!!!

I LOVE this album! This is what trance is all about. There's emotional and uplifting trance like My Heaven, Back to You, and Ramelia. Then there's more progressive , upbeat stuff like Eiforya and Phoenix. But the important thing is that every track is emotional, each one makes you feel something. Armin never disappoints, and ASOT 2014 is his best work so far.
Madde B - Incorrect Version
I have the full disc compilation at home, which is amazing! So I bought this so I can listen to the album on my iPhone. IT IS NOT THE SAME! For some reason every song has been cut to almost nothing and it's not even the same mix, nor is it continuous!! Absolutely awful idea to put a compact version of the actual album on iTunes! Music is More Than Mathematics and End of the Road were my favourites, and the versions in this comp just sounds really really terrible. I rarely write reviews, but I can't just let this go. /upset

Trance (and EDM in general, but especially trance) is supposed to be five to eight minutes long. Rock and pop are supposed to be three or four minutes long, NOT trance. Would give this four stars if the songs averaged at least five minutes in length and some songs were longer than seven minutes. Also, there's a bit more house and low-quality elements. Still some trance though. I hope Armin Van Buuren does extended mixes again.

Such a shame and reflection on the trance scene of last 4 yrs Only a couple good big room trance tracks, the rest is just big room dance music overblown riffs When people realise what is actually trance and request pioneering longevity again the club world will be revived.. Check out artist such as john 'OO' and AIRWAVE etc. First 2/3 ASOTS were great.

Armin has gone too mainstream. Tiesto jumped ship completely boo hoo. If you listen to older albums of this series 2009 backwards the "beach" disc has a truly warm feeling too it and there was a good flow. This is just like the new and terrible EDM where every tune is big and brash. Long live the underground dj. Try the ISOS series continued by Richard Durand. It's still really good.
