Gorillaz - Plastic Beach

About Plastic Beach by Gorillaz Album

Plastic Beach is the third studio album by English virtual band Gorillaz, released March 3, 2010 on Parlophone and Virgin Records. Conceived from an unfinished Gorillaz project called "Carousel", the album was recorded during June 2008 to November 2009 and produced primarily by group co-creator Damon Albarn. It features guest appearances by several artists, including Snoop Dogg, Gruff Rhys, Bobby Womack, Mos Def, Lou Reed, Mick Jones, and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Primarily a pop album, "Plastic Beach" contains lyrics concerning consumerism and ecology-related themes. The album has produced three singles, "Stylo", "Superfast Jellyfish", and "On Melancholy Hill". Creators of Gorillaz, musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, began working on a new Gorillaz project in November 2007 called Carousel, which evolved into Plastic Beach, the group's third studio album. In the November 2007 issue of Q, when asked what his top priority for 2008 was, Damon Albarn replied "Well, I'm doing the next Gorillaz thing, but it won't be called Gorillaz." In the February 2008 Gorillaz-Unofficial interview, Jamie Hewlett elaborated on this, saying "I think the idea behind it is that it's like how The Who presented their movies – Tommy and Quadrophenia and so on. Those were presented as by 'The Who' even though none of the members of the band were in the movies. I don't think anyone from The Who was in Quadrophenia. But it's the same people working on it, that's the principle." In a July 2008 interview with The Observer he also said, "Gorillaz now to us is not like four animated characters any more — it's more like an organisation of people doing new projects. That's my ideal model — Gorillaz is a group of people who gave you this, and now want to give you new stuff." In the Observer interview, Hewlett said that there is "a new project which Damon and I are working on now, called Carousel, which is even bigger and more difficult than Monkey, and it isn't going to fit anywhere and no one's going to like it, ha ha ha! We've started work — I've done a lot of visuals and Damon's done a lot of music but we haven't figured out how they're going to fit together. I can't say much about it yet but it's sort of like a film, but not with one narrative story. There's many stories, told around a bigger story, set to music, and done in live action, animation, all different styles, well... originally it was a film but now we think it's a film and it's a stage thing as well and... look, it's basically us doing what the fuck we want without worrying about whether it's for a record company or a film company or whatever. So I'm not sure how it'll pan out, or even if it will happen. But Damon's written around 70 songs for it, and I've got great plans for the visuals, but right now, at this moment, it's still just a really good idea." Carousel was to be about the mystical aspects of Britain.

- Yes. Yes. Did I mention yes?

Mm boi this good stuff. Melancholy hill is so beautiful and empire ants is a m a z i n g. Seriously melancholy hill is so cool

- Yes it is

The best 2D

- Perfect

Five stinking stars it's gooooooooooooood :)

- Once again

Gorillaz once again have shown us a great mixture of lyrics, sounds, and music. From Superfast Jellyfish to Rhinestone Eyes. A hoorah for the animated band.

- Amazing

This album, along with demon days,I one of my favorite albums of music. Most of the songs are very enjoyable and some need some time to grow on you. This album sort of like the others, have their own feel to them. This album feels more like as if you were sitting out on the beach. Overall I think this is a great album.

- This album broke me.

I can imagine wonderful music videos for Empire Ants and Broken, which are my two favorite tracks on the album. Broken is very underrated in my opinion- it's a beautiful song that really speaks about what some people will do for love and what they do when they get it. Buy this album, because I think it's Gorillaz' best- but who knows? The Now Now is sounding great so dar...

- Best album from gorillas ever

I love stylo

- 2-D is scared of whales

All I know is this album is great, 2-D is scared of whales, and cyborg noodle cannot replace the real noodle.

- My life is falling like rhinestones

It’s long, at night you look to your left you see HIM you scream. Then HIM runs at you, you ran away. It’s too late, HIM gets you. This story sadly happened to James Holland, at 1979 October 3. HIM is still out there, do you want to die. If not, [REDACTED] [FILE LOST]. It’s too late the time has come. You look at your clock and think about your past, you see your dreams and failures then HIM is staring at you and your dead.

- Outstanding

Pirate jet is underrated

- On Melancholy Hill

Literally the most dreamy song I have ever heard. (I adore everything else too, but ugh…(๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)♡

- Nut

Calmest album of em all

- Unbelievably Great

After I listened to songs like Feel Good Inc. and DARE from Demon Days, I discovered Gorillaz and their great music. A lot of their songs are great from the beginning, but others take time to be loved. This album is made up entirely of amazing songs, just like the debut album and Demon Days. No kidding, this album made me fall in love with music. Fans of any genre will love their music

- Bruh

Bruh, good album

- No words

This is music and one of the greatest things to ever bless my ears

- Meme

Bruh my favorite album of all time

- Best Gorillaz Album

This is the best Gorillaz album no question. Tons of great songs. Not a bad one in the bunch.

- Overrated

Sure,it's a great album, but not the best. Some songs are my favorites and carry a great message about ecology, but some songs aren't really that great. Like "Pirate Jet"and "Welcome To The World Of Plastic Beach". Also, "To Binge" is one of the most overrated songs, like people saying "This is the best Gorillaz song." And people on the internet ruined it for me. Personally, I prefer Humanz.

- This is just too good for it’s own sake.

I honestly have no words. It’s that good

- Superfast Jellyfish

Best song ever!

- Stylo (feat. Mos Def and Bobby Womack)

This song I liked from the start. 👍

- Might be the best album of all time

I've been a Gorillaz fan for some time and I've loved music my whole life but the Gorillaz just amazed me...it was so different and not like anything else I've seen or listen to. 10/10 best band out there right now!

- Rinestone eyes

So catchy 👉👈♥️

- Best album

I nut to this

- Words can't express how good this album is.

Words aren't good enough to describe this masterpiece. Buy the album and listen. You will embark on an emotional trip.

- A special, magical album that needs more praise

After listening to Demon Days, I really thought Gorillaz couldn’t do something as passionate, or as thoughtful of an album again. This exceeded my expectations. Not only were they very passionate about this album, it surpassed Demon Days for me. It’s quite a deep, caring album showing issues people and this world faces. It’s almost kind of like a sequel for Demon Days. The aesthetic on this album is quite phenomenal. It quite lives up the plastic, artificial feeling of this album. I can keep going on and explain a lot more but I’m too lazy rn, but you get the picture. 10/10

- Great album

Wonderful selection of songs. I love this album. It's my 2nd favourite Gorillaz album I've listened to. However, I have a bone to pick with this album. The recent album Humanz gets criticized for having too many collaborators on the album. I somewhat agree, but it seems people forgot that over half of Plastic Beach's songs had collaborators. How many songs? 11. If Humanz is criticized for that point , why isn't Plastic Beach? My guess is nostalgia, but there could be other reasons. Regardless of that, it's a great album.

- Heck yea!

The rhythms, the unique sounds... everything. This is Gorillaz. And damn, if they aren't great.

- Hell of an album!

This album contains some of their best songs, and it shows!

- On Melancholy Hill

The best song ever! I cannot stop listening to it ❤️💛💚💙💜

- Amazing

Title says it all :)
