Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd Song Info

"Comfortably Numb" is a song by the British progressive rock band Pink Floyd from their 1979 double album "The Wall". It is one of only three songs on the album for which writing credits are shared between Roger Waters and David Gilmour – melody and most of the music on "Comfortably Numb" was written by Gilmour, while Waters contributed the lyrics and some additional notes. "Comfortably Numb" is one of the most famous Pink Floyd songs, and is known especially for its guitar solos. In 2004, the song was ranked #314 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Lyrics came from Roger Waters' experience when he was injected with tranquillizers for hepatitis by a doctor prior to playing a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the band's 1977 tour for the "Animals" album. This song features two guitar solos by David Gilmour, and is a particular favorite with Pink Floyd fans. The final solo is widely revered by fans worldwide as one of Gilmour's best, and is the archetypal rock guitar solo and it is frequently within the top of all guitar solo polls, such as a poll by listeners of digital radio station Planet Rock, in which it was named the best solo of all time. The guitar solo was chosen 4# on Guitar World's "100 Greatest Guitar Solos". According to the Comfortably Numb Songfacts, this was the last song Waters and Gilmour wrote together.

- Great, album but the prices...

This is a great great album from one of the greatest bands of classic rock, but my only problem is the prices. Why should 1:30 songs be the same price as 4:30 songs?

- Lame

Terrible excuse for a bad rip off the almost entire and way more thought out concept album Tommy. The Who are completely better than the Pink.

- The best

Fantastic album. I remember buying the box set on cassette. It came with a book and a small piece of the wall. I still have it.

- Tear down the wall💣

Very very great 👍

- Happy!!!

So happy to finally see Pink Floyd in the iTunes Store! It's about time☺️👍🏼 There's probably nothing I could say about "The Wall" that anyone & everyone doesn't already know. The Wall is truly a masterpiece & Floyd at their worst (personally) & best (creatively)! I love this album & own it on vinyl...now digital!! WTG iTunes!!! Now, can we see about getting TOOL on iTunes???

- None bettet

My all-time fave. Would get stoned and listen to both albums on headphones years ago and could swear I heard things in the songs I couldn't hear when I was not stoned. Voices. It was great with a snickers bar or chocolate ice cream.

- What?!

Where's all the discovery remastered versions?!?!

- 🤘😍👏

Okay, I have been listening to pink Floyd for as long as I can remember. The Wall will always be my favorite album, that I can relate to 💯

- By a close call, the best PF album

It was hard to decide but this album is my favorite that they’ve ever made. So powerful and it helped me understand my mistakes during a really difficult period of time. Experience this music somehow, whether with the movie or the album. It’s all a masterpiece.

- Possibly the ultimate concept album

It is just so epic in its scale. It is dark, hunting and emotional. The was, for me, the last album of an unbelievable era. Pink Floyd proved themselves as one of the greatest bands of all time. Excellent production, hunting lyrics, amazing music. Everyone should have this album on their shells.

- @ThomasTheTerrible

If you have downloaded an album and it says purchased but is in grey it may be because it hasn't fully uploaded. If it still does that here's what you do. Go to iTunes Store-Scroll down till you see your account, then access it and look for Hidden Purchases. The album should be there just download it from that. Hope that helps. Great album btw.

- A masterpiece

I have been listening to Pink Floyd since my mother played it for me while i was still in the womb. this album is hauntingly beautiful and is even better after you watch the movie. if you don't like the album, you either are deaf or aren't listening hard enough.

- You need to get it

Get the full album and listen to it beginning to end its amazing roger is a lyric GOD

- Greats from the greats.

The Wall takes me back to the early 80s. I realize musical artists are becoming harder to find and soon music of this caliber will be a thing of the past.

- I am finally Comfortably Numb

No words on how great this is.

- Thoughtful, Depressing, Emotional, and Incredible.

The Wall is simply my favorite album. A metaphorical story about a rock star or something you can personal relate yourself personally to. Songs like "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2", "Mother", "Hey You", and most of all "Comfortably Numb" solidify how powerful this album is.

- Speechless

Anything I say or try to can not describe how the Beauty that is Pink Floyd the wall truly has to be something that every one has to at least give a chance

- 😍😍

Love this album

- Best music

I listened to both pink Floyd albums when they came out, every song on the album you could sit and listen too and get stoned. It was awsome

- Best album of all time

No music library is complete with the wall. It is absolutely the best album ever. Strong message that will stay relevant forever, roger and Gilmour's great vocals, Gilmours masterful guitar work. The whole album is a masterpiece from start to finish. If you haven't heard this album, stop what you are doing and listen to it now! A must buy for everyone.

- "Is there anybody out there?"

Epic-ness in all its Glory.

- Love it!

Me and my mother just love to listen to Brick In The Wall over and over again.

- Either A Mistake or Greed

I purchased this on my iPad and it plays correctly there. However, on my iPhone, some of the songs will not play. They are displayed grey and will not play. When I look at the album in the store I see the ones that will not play as "purchased" and the others say "play". I am not out of memory. So I can't listen to the entire album on my phone? What is the point of listening to individual tracks of pretty much any Pink Floyd album?

- Pink Floyd the wall

Who F ed With the original 80s album i dont recall the order or cuts that you made BYER BEWARE.... unless you never herd it be for... Can i have a refund????

- Songs are cut short

A great album but the quality is terrible. It sounds like a track album rather than a concept album; the songs don't flow into each other. Some songs are cut short (last several seconds). Disappointed.

- Nothing less than 5 will do

No collection of rock music would be complete without this album, cliche but in this case true. The Wall will stand alongside Beethoven's 9th Symphony as something everyone must hear, before the die.

- a must have

this is the first, this is the start and this is the pinnancle of writting

- Listen to this at least once in your life.

Listened to this album too many times to count. Best album ever.

- Stunning and epic

This album is an experience. The album can go from quiet and careful to loud and symphonic within seconds. The overarching theme of isolation gives some of the quiet parts a very "lonely" feeling, which are quickly balanced out by the screaming solos. In my opinion, the vinyl version is the superior format when it comes to this album. It's the little things that matter here, such as the B side ending with the song "Goodbye Cruel World." This forces the listener to endure complete silence just after hearing a song about a suicide threat. This silence lets the listener reflect on just how emotional the album up to this point is. You can't get this with the digital version unless you pause the album at the end of the song. Again, this is just my opinion and the same emotional and borderline psychedelic experience can be obtained by listening to the digital version. From hearing the opening line of "So ya thought ya might like to go to the show," you know you're in for a treat.

- Mastering is awful

This review is only for the mastering by itunes. Volume is way to low. The mastering for itunes is a gimmick. Go to Amazon and buy you the true remastered version and up it into Itunes. I have noticed that Apple has yanked alot of remastered releases in favor of this mastered for Itunes version gimmick.

- The best

In my opinion this is the best Pink Floyd album, maybe even the best album of all time. Its worth it

- Five Stars, Of Course!

What other rating than 5/5 could I give this spectacular rock opera? Pink Floyd was (and still is) extremely unique In their style. Not to mention putting out a heart-rendingly meaningful album in a time when so much of the mainstream music was about love or heartbreak or what have you. The songs play into each other perfectly, and Dave Gilmour had some spectacular solos (as Dave Gilmour usually does). The solo in "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" will always spark a feeling of rebellion inside me, and the second solo in "Comfortably Numb" will always make me feel, well, comfortably numb. And in the best of ways.

- The Best

I've bought this four or five times over the years in different formats. Worth every penny!

- In the flesh?!

Most epic Pink Floyd album...and there are many..."So ya thot ya might like to go to the show"?!?

- This is great

I am almost 12 yay!!! And I discovered this album and it I amazing! This is so much better than the stuff they play nowadays you need to buy this!

- Favorite Album

This is my favorite album ever. The music is spot on and the story is so impressive no other album comes close.

- Arrian & Arrial

Will be taking this album to my grave

- Simply the best

Idk if there's a better recording in the history of music. The whole thing. From start to finish. Awesome. And to think I only started listening to pink Floyd because a guy I was crushing on liked them. He never liked me back but I got SO much more out of that crush!! Thanks Keith!!!!! ;-)

- An absolute must listen.

This was my first Floyd album I discovered. They have been my all time favorite since 1981.

- Personifies classic rock

Simply one of the greatest albums of all time, a soundtrack of many lives and one of the best reasons that decent headphones are a necessity.

- The most emotional band I've ever heard

I pretty much only know this album, but otherwise, I honestly don't know too much about Pink Floyd, only that my dad loves this band above all others. And when I watched The Wall a few days ago, I can understand why. The story is so deep, dark, and heart-wrenching emotional. Not to mention down-right creepy. But the visuals in that movie, and its musical backbone, make for a beautiful piece of work that will be appreciated for years to come. I hear the music differently now, and I'm so addicted to it, it's scaring me. XD

- Favorite album

Probably my favorite album of all time. I find myself listening to it at least 3 times a day

- More than just a great album....

....the release of this was also an event. A very ballsy and daring album. I will never forget how blown away by this album when I first heard it. Amazing songs, great lyrics, this album is also very funny at times, something that could not be said of The Final Cut. I love how Pink Floyd expanded their sound on this. Favorite songs of mine are both parts of In The Flesh, Run Like Hell, Comfortably Numb, Mother, Another Brick In The Wall, Part 3, etc... . A masterpiece.

- YET ANOTHER AMAZING ALBUM!!!!!!!!

A little bit freaky but still my favorite album of all time. You can not get only some songs in this album, in order to like Pink Floyd, you have to listen to the whole album at one time. If you don't, you be waiting for that next beat at the end of the song but it will never come unless you get the whole album. It I were to give this a rating of 1-10 I would give it a 12.

- The best.

This is another one of Pink Floyd's greatest creation. Worth buying and a absolute masterpiece. Rock On Pink Floyd.

- Lol🌈❤️

My grandpa made me get him a CD album for the cars. But then I ended up stealing them from him. Yes I’m 12 but I still love Pink Floyd thanks to my Grandpa!!😂🌈🤙🏼

- One of the greatest albums out there, but nothing compared to what could have been....

Did you know that Pink Floyd was to do the music for the Dune Movie. Not the David Lynch one, but the legendary attempt by master surreallist director Alejandro Jodorowsky back before Star Wars came out? They would have done a massive album/soundtrack with the French band Magma. This was about after Dark Side of the Moon came out. So, thanks to Hollywood, instead of Pink Floyd's songs for the fall and rise of House Atreides, we got The Wall. Not that I am complaining. This is one of the greatest albums out there.
