The Goo Goo Dolls are lyrical geniuses! They help me through the rough times and they make the good times better. I love you guys forever and ever!
Love the first song SO ALIVE!!! Can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album sounds like. Excited that GGD are back.
let’s face it, this band’s, now, last two records have been disappointments.
Sounds like John is writing lyrics that will be extremely radio friendly and catchy. I was hoping the new songs would have some deeper meaning and sustenance, however, if his previous work is any indication we should have some great songs to look forward too. Can’t wait to hear them live in Portland, Oregon. It will be a “getting out of the Army” gift to myself. Thank you for sharing this work with us!
Never disappointed with John. His singing and song writing is amazing. Love him. Never disappointed
John Rzeznik is an awesome singer and songwriter. This is another dynamic album, with beautiful harmonies, outstanding lyrics, and powerful ballads. I do however, miss hearing some of the shredding guitars from their earlier albums. The only reason this is not a 5 star album is because it's lacking even one song in that arena.
I began listening to The Goo Goo Dolls after I learned that the band wrote the song to treasure planet. Since then I have bought every single albumn with double copies of most of them. I was so stoked when magnetic came out and the albumn was great, this albumn is in my opinion the best yet. While my favorite song is still Iris this albumn has won first place in my opinon. LOVE IT!!!!!
I have been a fan since the 90's and have always had a major crush on John Rzeznik. Super amped about this album and ❤️ the first two singles.
This sort of band that you can never get enough.. Im really happy we still hear original and great music..
i have never bought a full album before until this one. Im seriously blown away !!
Couldn't wait for new album. All there albums helped me get through hard times and enjoy good ones. This album is phenomenal, John is great. It's musical therapy to me. If your a fan then you would be silly not to buy. The title track BOXES is my favorite.
One of the reasons GGD has been a favorite of mine since Carwash was their ability to write catchy rock guitar progressions. With Magnetic and now Boxes they have gone away from this formula. Now most of the songs are average to boring pop ballads with a lot of keyboards and drum machines. They even used a voice tuner on the song Reverse (yikes). Ruined the song. I just miss the electric guitar. There are a few good songs here like Over and Over, Souls, Pin and Lucky One. Robby's tunes are OK. But Flood has to be the worst GGD song ever written. Sadly no real rock songs here. Those days are over. Overall an average record (like the cover artwork) that will soon be forgotten.
My son worked on this album with the goo goo dolls. I an so proud of his work. This is the best Mother's Day gift. I'm so proud to be his mommy.
I’m biased as a huge GGD fan, but I’m really digging the new album. Can’t wait to see GGD in concert this summer.
Absolutely in love with this song and know that the rest of the album will be just as fabulous, if not better. Album #11 has already captured my heart. Simply amazing. The message is always spot on. #synchroncityatplay #everythingsconnected #startagain
Amazing, This new album had me saying wow, and oh my god out loud. It builds to a triumphant crescendo. GREAT Album!
Gotta be brutally honest. This is the worst. While I'm glad they progressed from their Sex Maggot days, this leaves me wanting in a major way. Where the heck is Robby? Has he been stripped of his bass completely? And for that matter, what instrument is John even playing here? I got excited when I heard Over and Over for the first time. If you turn it up REALLY loud you can hear Robby in the background a tiny bit. I thought maybe we would get a throwback track akin to String of Lies or something. Sadly, no. Not even close. I feel like you could hear them enjoying themselves back in the day. You could really hear them having fun. But I'm afraid the music video for Broadway was all too true. I used to listen to their music and picture them running around on the stage like they used to. With these tracks I just picture John by himself sitting in a chair with a mic in a recording booth. Probably a dude in the background pushing buttons. Don't get me wrong - I still prefer this to 90% of what's on the radio, but I miss the band that motivated me to start playing guitar. The band that helped mold my teenage self into a music snob and rock n roll fan in the first place.
I have been a long time fan of the Goos and I love they are experimenting with different styles. Finding new shapes and colors with a voice that needs to be heard! John has such a gift for delivering melodies and lyrics that can speak to and for so many! Keep em coming brother!!
The Goo Goo Dolls do an amazing job of changing with the times -and making great music. The changes throughout the years are noticeable, but you always know that the band singing are the Goo Goo Dolls. My top three in order from this album are: Reverse, Over and Over, and So Alive. Great job, GGDs!
The Goo Goo Dolls never disappoint. Based off of 'Over and Over,' and 'So Alive,' there's no doubt this album is and will be amazing! Being a fan since the early 90's, everything about their music is inspiring and relatable. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
Absolutely amazing!!!! The whole thing is perfect.
Sounds like Goo Goo Dolls have written the same album over and over. Same melodies. Same guitar. Same ole same ole. Yawn.
Too much pop, not enough soul
Sense when are the Goo's considered pop? Anyway they never seem to disappoint. My all time favorite band!
So Alive!!
When Rebel Beat was the first single off Magnetic, I wasn't overly impressed. However, the rest of the album made up for it, as every other song was outstanding. I pray for a similar fate for Boxes, after listening to Over and Over. It's good but here's to hoping the rest of the album is even better!
I've always been a fan of the dolls, although I haven't really kept up with their album releases, this one I was super excited for. I really enjoyed this album, and it really raises the spirits. It's very optimistic, upbeat and well written. I'm very excited to be seeing them on tour in support of this album it's going to be a fantastic show...great job John and Robby! :)
Great blend of musical styles, fresh sound.
Thanks for some more great music.
I have been a Goo Goo Dolls fan for over 20 years and this album definitely does not disappoint in my mind. I think it surpasses Magentic and the new sound is amazing! John is an amazing singer/songwriter and he gets better with each album. I like that they experimented with different instruments on this album and pushed the boundaries from previous records. I have been listening to it non-stop and am looking forward to hearing these songs live this summer!! Turn it up!!!!
Wow….really, I’m speechless after listening to this album. "Over and Over" starts the album and it’s the closest thing to a rock song that you will find on this album. The next song that is decent would be “The Pin” however, I actually like “Free of Me” the most out of any song on the album. The song “Boxes” is alright, but still feels like it’s lacking something. Everything else is just forgettable. I miss the GGDs playing guitars and I miss Robby screaming through songs. Sometimes change is good, but in this case it’s very disappointing.
I think this album has a ton to offer, you need to listen a couple times. My only issue is the sound, there is a weird tone to the music, it sounds distorted and over treble or something. I guess I will get CD copy, iTunes lately is getting over priced and sound quality is in toilet on most items.
I have nothing nice to say.
Been a fan for I dont know how many years now & they never cease to amaze me. Nothing disappointing here... Boxes exceeds all of my expectations & is a really great album.
been a fan since superstar car wash and a boy named goo! i have stuck by this band through it's musical evolution some good some ok but have still remained a fan.i am now finally coming to terms knowing that they will never make another album like they made before, not because they can't,because they won't.i feel like they have chosen to sweep their best music under the rug and act as if it never happened! instead of cranking out some old school sounds they have decided to go the modern route and that's what i am hearing on the new album boxes! most of the songs on this album are the same songs you would hear on 103.9 or what they are playing on mtv these days.just a bunch of pop songs with no guitar and a drum machine.songs like so alive, lucky one, boxes, prayer in my pocket, and flood are all songs that that you would probably hear on a taylor swift cd! not is all lost on this album i did happen to like souls in the machine, the pin and over and over, all decent songs but not enough to make up for the whole cd! i can just picture all these new pop songs being sung at their concerts while all their classic older songs get pushed deeper in obscurity!
the song over and over is the first song I've like from ggd in a long time. I have to admit, I'm 40, so I grew up with superstar car wash and a boy named goo. dizzy up the girl is one of my fave albums and gutter flower had some great songs. what kicked off the Muzak goo goo dolls music was "stay with you". it seems ever since then, John has been trying to repeat that formula, but toning it down to the softness of iris. I saw them live in 2007 and I remember thinking to myself, "where's my rock music???" I understand al artist need to progress in their careers, but I guess I'm the last of a dying breed that is in love with crunchy guitars and drummers with a purpose.
this song rocks and or rolls!!!
Like the ole days very good
Why would you stop writing your own songs for your own records? I miss the classic GGD right up through Let Love In. Oh well. Another classic pop band jumped the ship along with Train.
Johnny R. has always had a way of drawing you into his songs, and so far these new cuts are no exception. Thankful that they continue to write and perform, as their music has always had a way of helping me through any given day. Turn it Up!
I have been a diehard Goo Goo Dolls fan since "A Boy Named Goo" I feel that this album will be just like "Magnetic." I Hated "Rebel Beat" at 1st, but once I heard it a couple more times I grew to love that album and it's now my 2nd favorite behind "Dizzy Up The Girl" give this album a chance. I love the ever evolving sound of the Goo Goo Dolls and will continue to enjoy "Boxes" some very solid work. Great Job guys!!!!
I'm not a very Knowledgeable about the GOO GOO DOLLS. I've listened to them with my dad from his iPod since I was kid, such as IRIS and NAME. But I can surely say this album has potential. I don't see many older bands cruise well with the new sounding development that comes with the new era of music. But I can say these songs are pretty awesome, still a part of themselves but just a little bit newer.
Your beautiful lyrics and killer voice never cease to incredibly amazing me!
Yes, their old stuff was phenomenal and great. But artists can evolve and change their style or sound. Just because it isn't like their old music doesn't mean it isn't great. I think it has an awesome vibe and I'm glad they're still making music! Love the goo goo dolls!
A blue collar work ethic and an ear for hooks has kept this band moving long after any supposed death sentence!!! You can’t lose, if you don’t quit. Respect!
Amazing. Never disappointed when preordering another goo goo dolls album.
My favorite band. Never lets me down.
Great band! Been listening to these guys for 20 years. It sounds promising and I'm looking forward to hearing more 😎
