- Miss the old stuff

But this is still a really good album

- I love it

I don't know why everyone is hating it. I think it is a good album. I think that if they like to make this kind of music and enjoy it then that's their choice. If you don't like then don't listen to it. It's that simple. I love these guys and they work hard. Please be kind. If you don't like how "soft" their music is now then don't complain about it and then don't listen to it. That's all.

- Next Time

Well...definitely not as good as any of the lay albums. I was disappointed with their last album but dealt with it and was hoping for some change in element but this album is pretty bad and pretty slow. It doesn't even sound like OM&M. It sounds a new band and a band who wants to make money by selling records to all sorts of people instead to sticking to what they are good at. Oh well.

- A complete 180

I never thought I'd say this, but their best songs now are the straightforward "rock" songs with no screaming. Their metal sound is very slipknotish, which I'm personally not a fan of at all. I loved Restoring Force - for me it was a nearly perfect album. This has just taken that sound way way too far.

- A step backwards

This album honestly gave me a Linkin Park vibe the whole time I listened to it, there's about 3 decent songs worth putting into my normal rotation.

- Great Album

I'm very impressed with Of Mice & Men's Cold War. I am a newer fan and have been going through their old material since getting into them. This album has great variety and I have to say the clean vocals are by far my favorite on this album. Carlile has a great screaming voice and the combination of his voice against the cleans really adds depth to their music. This may be my favorite of their albums yet.

- Absolutely love it! 🤘🏼

Been waiting a long time & I certainly wasn't disappointed. I love this album! 🤘🏼🔥

- Political

Completely different and completely bad. It's as if they forced the entire album. Extremely boring and you could feel the lack of heart in the album. Not good compared to my favorite album The Flood.

- Painful

It all went downhill after The Flood. I could barely even get through their last album and when they released Pain, some hope for this album came up. But after listening to this, Pain is the only song I can remotely like. It feels like they are trying too hard lyric-wise, which kills a song immediately for me. I really wanted to like this album, but I can't. Good luck to OM&M wherever their journey leads them.

- Not what they used to be

Shayley left and took everything that was once good about OM&M with him, so if you’re a fan of the old stuff don’t even waste your time trying to find a similar song on this album. This is not what positive band progression/growth sounds like

- Solid riffs

I like OM&M's new direction it's catered for the big arenas

- This doesn't sound anything like their past albums

Don't waste your money. Super disappointed. Definitely nothing like their prior albums. Sounds like they are trying to get on the radio or something because this isn't hardcore at all.

- a bit generic, but not bad.

first of all i wanna say that "pain" is the most generic song that they have ever produced, second only to "you're not alone". ok. so i do like the album. i like austin's vocals which this record is heavy with. to be honest a lot of the songs sound the same, and it's a bit generic, but its good. love you guys 💕

- Of Mice & Men are Evolving

So here is my review for "Cold World" by Of Mice & Men. First off, If you're reading this, please take 20 seconds out of your day to listen just to the beginning of this track. The reason for this is because I want to get my main point across in that I feel this entire album has been HEAVILY influenced by bands such as "Tool" and "A Perfect circle". Both bands I love so hearing this connection in Of Mice & Men's new music was a pleasant surprise. From the melodic vocals to the heavy bass-filled lines in each track, I can sense the definite similarity to early "Tool" albums. I find it funny when I hear a lot of hate on this album because it's softer than their original content (Which is true) and that they have "Sold Out". All I'm going to say on the matter is that they definitely have not sold out by any means because there is still a select 3 or 4 songs on this album that trace back to their roots of "the Flood" and their self titled album with songs such as "Pain" and "Like a Ghost". Personally I feel that the band has matured and they have started creating much more meaningful and powerful music as a whole. As much as I personally would love to hear more heavy-hitting songs from them, I still appreciate their softer-work and their music overall because just from listening to the first song on the record "Game of War" I was immediately drawn in by the echoing bass and the melodic vocals, almost bringing me into a state of relaxation, only to be thrust into a state of energy once 2nd track "The Lie" started to play. I feel only a few tracks such as "Relentless" and "Transfigured" felt a bit generic and more "filler" compared to the rest of the tracks on this record. Overall I liked this album from start to finish and I can see myself listening to it all the way through for years to come. 7.5/10

- Really?!?

Stop the whining and give an honest review. All I read is --- Wahhh Shayley; Wahhhh first two albums. If you want Shayley, go pick up the new Dayshell release or listen to the first two OM&M albums. If you give this a real listen you will realize that OM&M have put out a diverse and very interesting album. They have grown musically and this album proves it. It's a shame that you whiners haven't grown as well.

- Garbage

If your an original fan dont waste your time. Very disappointed

- So close

I loved Restoring Force. In my opinion it's OM&M's strongest album. Cold world had a lot of potential with their lead single "Pain". Seemed like they were going in a darker direction while still keeping the edge. There are some great songs on here for sure, it's just not as strong of an album as its predecessor. Almost every band has that one album that misses the mark. Even though it's still solid, Cold World might be that album for OM&M.

- Mmmmyeahhh

Might as well listen to nickel back

- Old vs New OMM

I can't give 1 star or be one of those people who say "if I could rate it a 0 I would." I give it a three because I am well rounded in music and love all genres. This album sounds fantastic and is fairly lyrical and I won't bash them on it...but it's not what we're used too. I took off 2 stars because I jumped on the bandwagon when The Flood (Reissue) was their latest album. Back then they were much heavier and energetic. I miss the old OMM when they were like that because The Flood was a moving away, Full Circle was the transition faze, and now Cold World where they are more of Rock. I'd compare them now to Breaking Benjamin whereas before I'd compare them to Wage War, Miss Mai I, Otep, etc. There are a few songs I admire but I don't feel this album as much as I was hoping. Maybe I'll change my mind over time as I come back to it but as of now, if I were to pick Of Mice & Men or Bad Omens, I'd take Bad Omens.

- Change is Good.

News flash it's not 2012, so be more open minded to OM&M's transition in sound (like they have with EACH album) they changed for the better not for "radio play" as some might say. The Lie, The Hunger, Contagious, Away & Transfigured are defiantly my favs off "Cold World" which is a really good album in my opinion. This album has purpose & a big meaning, whether you see hear it or not. They didn't want to keep the same sound forever (not many bands do) & for those complaining they like their past albums better, well go listen to those, they aren't going anywhere and OM&M are defiantly going to continue to play those older songs live, they can't escape their roots. Why would they want to? Those albums changed people's life's. Also (T$RL) My first album I ever bought EVER was The Flood. It was a random purchase, didn't even know them just thought the cover looked cool & it was labeled under metal so I said "eh why not" & my 12 or 13 year old self asked my mom if she would buy it for me, she did. This was my first exposure to metal/heavy music, which led to other bands. One year later I found myself at my first concert (OM&M) & thinking about that now, I realize how much these guys have changed my life entirely and I'm forever grateful for that. Thank You OM&M.

- Of mice and sellouts

Even more of a disappointment then restoring force. I would have gave this 1 star if I didn't like some of the guitar. We can't expect much more out of them anymore.

- This is awesome!!

I don't know what you guys are talking about but this is awesome!!

- Still Good Stuff

Every body is saying that this band has "lost their touch". Everyone is saying "I miss the old Of Mice & Men", everyone is saying the same old thing. They put out a good solid album. It's not heavy and in your face alll the time, and it doesn't always have to be. If that's litteraly all you expect from any band out their that had a few album of really heavy songs, then you don't know how to diversify from things very well. I like the fact that this album brought something new to the table. I don't want the same of stuff. I want something new and different, something I wouldn't expcet, and they reached my expectations. To me this is a different album and more well produced and not just all in your face. If you don't like this album, go keep living in your little past and stay there. Don't come bac ktill the next album is made. I'm gonig to love this album for it's diversity from other albums. WH owants to always live that same dang life all the tinme and make the same songs in every album, it will get old and stale. Making new things is the key. Slipknot does it in every single album. New sound, new screams, new diversity. New hard songs, new Slow songs, new sad songs, new every songs. I'd rather have that then the same old song every time. I love this album.

- Seriously ?

I've been following this band since 2011 and all I can say is, their work has evolved to something boring. The first two albums were captivating due to the melodic clean vocals by Shayley Bourget Dayshell. Not that Aaron Pauley isn't doing a great job, he is, but it's a boring vibe. It's my opinion, I know others feel different. Though I tried to give them a chance with Restoring Force, and now Cold War, Austin Carlile isn't a clean vocal singer. The edits are definitely apparent and live you can tell he's really struggling; it's not the same ambiance as before. Some change is for the best but at times too much experimentation kills the sound once thought to captivate an audience of metal core. Anyhow, here's to the origins ! Of mice and men and The flood 🤘🏼

- Not bad

With each album a band puts out, I have recently found a consist urge for maturity. With age, artists either become lost and without originality, or they become unique by growing out of their roots. I can find emotion and artistry in this album, but I can also sympathize that perhaps it's time to put down the instruments. I can enjoy this album on a drive to work in the wee morning hours. But like so many "scene" bands these days, their originality is starting to drain, and a melted down, unoriginal sound begins to take over. I like OMM, but this was not a best foot forward. Austin is one of the realest dudes in the scene, but with his health and mental state, I wouldn't be suprised if the band had to call it quits tomorrow.

- They're doing their jobs as musicians

I hate it when I see useless and unappreciative reviews, saying that "They've changed" or "Their old music was better". Do you know how arrogant that is to say something like that? They're doing their job as musicians and they're trying their hardest to please each and every fan of their music. To all the people who literally said those unthoughtful and disrespectful comments, you were never a "fan". You don't appreciate them or their music all because they've "changed". They didn't change a single bit. What they're doing is trying to please you and you're going out of your way to crush that. How arrogant.

- Epic Disappointment

I heard 'Pain' and was in it to win it. I bought the pre-sale and want my money back. I realize they need to try new things, but this album will leave everyone who loves metal severely disappointed.

- A good record

I respect where these guys have gone with their music and what they have done in the past. I like each one of their albums because i listen to it for what it is and don't "expect" it to sound a certain way like most people do and get upset about. Just enjoy it and be open to a little bit of change! I really like the album good job guys!

- Give up

You've ruined your past. They're obviously staying with this direction. They're wanting on the radio so bad. Wannabe sell outs

- Ugh

I've seen so many bands from this genre make the transition over to nu metal or rock or whatever you wanna call it, and mind you there's nothing wrong with that because there's a lot of bands that do it really well! OM&M... eh not so much /:, Restoring Force was actually a really good album overall and of course their first two albums were top notch, but this album.. no. I think there's maybe like 5 - 6 decent songs on this album and even then their still just not even on the same level as their previous work (in no way is there any nostalgia for their old work in this review I'm not one of those, I grew up with nu metal and rock. Metalcore is only a few years old with me). Aaron is incredibly weak on this album for the most part, Austin sounds tired.. there seems to be close to no inspiration and emotion on this album.. the lyrics are really crappy to be honest. Relentless is probably the best example of this and is honestly probably one of the worst songs I've ever heard from this band. Some bands like I said transition styles very very well and OM&M I'm sorry but.. you didn't 😂. As a whole, this album was very very disappointing and if I had purchased this I would've been very upset that I wasted $10.

- Great

Liked the old albums better but they did a good job on this! Keep it up!!

- What happened?

Doesn't even compare to Restoring Force or some of their older albums. It's hard to pick out even one good song on this album. I hate to say it, but I'm really disappointed:/

- Don't knock it...

...until you try it. Cold World is actually a very solid release by OM&M. It's getting a lot of hate because people haven't listened to the full album.

- Amazing Album!

I absolutly love this album, I know that they changed styles of music but what band doesn’t? If you cant take the moment to listen to their whole album then please leave and go listen to other songs that you think are better. This album was really well written! Cant wait to hear more from them!

- Not Sure If OM&M or Linkin Park

I listened to the whole thing. There wasn't anything memorable about this record. It sounded more like a Linkin Park record in most aspects than it did an Of Mice & Men record. I'm not sure what they were going for here but, to me, it didn't pay off and the whole album is really dismissable.

- Wow... 💔

I really thought they were gonna make a epic album after hearing pain. But this album is boring and just horrible. I wish they would get rid of Aaron bc his voice just ugh! I don't like his voice when combined with Austin screaming. I don't like Aaron. 💔😒😡

- uh

where is the Metal Core? I have only listened to the 30 second teaser on each song and I jusst cant get into it. I will give it a 4 star rating though because the sound is good if you are into that slower softer sad direction that was showing up in the last album and is in full swing here. I will stick with "Architects"

- Underwhelming

It's a shame. Their last record was on point...this not so much.

- Hello?

Linkin Park is that you?!?

- H4L0xHunter1's Review

OMAM was so much better than this barely two years ago. Change for the worse in my opinion. Look at bands like The Amity Affliction, Abandon All Ships, The Word Alive, etc. because the great experience I thought would be here, is not.

- Sounds like everything else on the radio

Seriously... this sounds so muddled down and just not like the OM&M I grew up listening to.

- Brutal Review Time - Enjoy!

Just wasted 43 minutes of my life listening to this album. I was hoping there would be a glimmer of hope somewhere in the garbage that is "Cold World" to pull me out of the boring cycle of songs I had heard but the curse of Shayley B's departure continues to haunt this group. Carlile's throaty vox give the impression that even he knows the material is so awful that he has no choice but to try too hard. The clean vocals are bareable albeit flat. I'd rather listen to that chick in Sleeping with Sirens than hear this..(BOOM) On second thought i'll take a break because this music gave me a headache. OM&M are probably going to learn a hard lesson with this one and if they don't they'll be passed up by great new original talent on the rise such as Dayshell (whoops!)I know these guys can write better than this but they'll have to stop pussyfooting around one another and truly hold themselves to a higher standard and call out the crap. Sometimes it takes a big mistake to realize it is time to hit the drawing board and come back focused. Hopefully this is that big mistake they need. Welcome to the Cold World.

- Pain

I love how they released pain first because it's the only good song on the album. Pain came out with everyone preordering the album because they thought the whole album was gonna be that good. They're not as good as they used to be.

- Different but amazing.

I love seeing a band that can change their style slightly but still stay themselves. What people need to understand is that bands change, they aren't going to stay the same forever, get over it. Hopefully this new direction will be healthier for not only Austin and his battle with Marfans Syndrome but healthier for the rest of the band. In conclusion, personally I find this album a true work of art. It displays change and movement that some people are too immature to understand.

- Teased and Disappointed

Pain was a tease of their potential. Getting to that nice mix of heavy and cleans. Instead I got an album that is so heavily influence by numetal, it's just not the Of Mice &Men their fans have come to love. Nobody will be screaming for them to play Game of War or Like A Ghost at their shows. This album is so boring compared to previous releases.

- A new move: A nice change.

Guys, be real with yourselves. Wishing that a band will keep making the same records over and over again is ruining the whole experience of being the fan of a band. You are probably in love with this band because you love listening to what they have to say both musically and lyrically. If not, then you have no buisness writing a review. I found that the band was pretty honest about some pretty neat topics in this album... If you would take the time to listen to their messages rather than just commenting on how much it doesn't sound like old omam, then you may be able to see that they really did put their hearts into this. A trashing it because it doesn't meet your standards, is an unfair way of looking at it. I'd say to give the album a listen all the way through, take time to take in the artistry in the album. I find this album to be facinating. It's a bold move. It speaks just as loud as their last albums... just with a new technique. I highly recommend the songs, "The Lie", "Pain", and Contagious". The album is a great listen. Stop comparing it to their old albums... They aren't the same band as they used to be. They are older and more mature... and it is showing.

- wow ...

i've been a fan since a lil time after their second album, the flood, came out. i've seen them around 2014 and when restoring force came out and dominated their sound i tolerated it. i never expected for their music to get any better than it used to be, but to see how this band and evolved from what it used to be into another Linkin Park influenced band makes me hope they went back to their older music :/

- why?

What happened to the Of Mice & Men I use to know???

- My honest opinion

I seen a lot of hate on this album but I kinda like it. I haven't listened to of mice & men since restoring force first came out. I grew board of the same sounding songs. This album has a variety of styles and I like that. All I can say is give it chance you might find a track you really like.

- You will either love it or hate it...

When I saw the comments on the album on Youtube, I saw a lot of people complaining that they "sold out". Me? I didn't think so. While it is more "soft" than their other records, I was still very impressed by "Cold World." The lyrics, instrumentals, and vocals really grew on me after a few listens. CW really reminded me of the classic nu-metal of the 2000s (Linkin Park, Korn, P.O.D., etc). I'm a sucker for that "nu-metal" sound, so this album really appealed to me. I liked how they evolved their sound from the (sorry, diehards) same-old same-old metalcore they started out with. All in all, this album was pretty solid. But don't take my word for it- listen to it yourself. As the title says, you will either love it or hate it.
