So far, from what we already have, it's pretty good. Good mix of people. The 'My Shot' remix is really cool, and an amazing group of people. 'It's Quiet Uptown' sung by Kelly Clarkson is very her style. I'm enjoying it and am excited for the rest of the album.
The only downside is it seems like the metadata is a messed up so far. The two latest released songs download as a different album and it comes up saying the Roots sing Satisfied not Sia. The actual songs though...INCREDIBLE!
I wanted to like this album but there is just nothing memorable on it - no earwigs, nothing to hum to myself.
Some of the songs are amazing - some are ok - and some are kinda bad compared to the originals. Get the cast recording first - once you have fallen in love with it - then get this to compliment it.
The artists interpretations is everything! People: stop comparing it to the "original" (or the play cuz actually this was recorded first 😑). You are missing the point! Just stop. Love it! Hip-Hop at its best!
The more I listen, the more I love every single track. LMM is a creative genius, and his work will go down in history. This album plays like an old record, with each track flowing into the next. It's musical perfection, with some social/political commentary and history flowing seamlessly throughout. I've also noticed a few references to "In the Heights." The Original Broadway Cast's Hamilton the Musical recording is brilliant, but now I find myself wishing those recordings would be replaced with some on here (I could listen to only Kelly Clarkson's version of "It's Quiet Uptown" for the rest of my life). The only downside? After 73 short minutes, it ends. *repeat*
I thought I'd be listening to ATCQ's album for at least the next 6 months, but then I downloaded this beautifully masterful piece of unique artwork. I like every single song. Thank you sir!!!
Lin Manuel-Miranda is the only reason I have a will to live.
This "mixtape" version is very degrading to the original because I know that all of them, with maybe some ac, are using auto tune and are not using their real raw voices like the original soundtrack. I also believe it is a way for stars and passed stars to rack up some money from buyers.
♥️♥️♥️♥️
The whole album is hot!
This is truly a work of art and musical brilliance. Lin, you are an inspiration to me and my generation man. I'd never thought I could find an album or a person who had the same musical mind I did. To live this album to love Lon's "Hamilton" you have to understand not only the story. But the passion, the time, the brilliance, and the talent it took to create such a masterpiece. It only makes me want to peruse my musical career even further. Lin, keep inspiring minds and hearts of all ages.
This and the original soundtrack satisfied my thirst for meaningful, fabulous music all year long.
Take every beautiful Hamilton song and let a bunch of self absorbed, run saturated, over the top Performers ruin them and you have...this. Except for Sia, Kelly Clarkson, and Usher, it was tripe.
When listening to these song you here passion and hop and faith sadly in my option majority of these songs were not good there are defiantly 4-5 great songs in this album but there are some that i find boring slow and don't have emotion i don't think kelly clarkson should have a single in this album they should be a uplifting part by another fellow singer
Thank you, Lin, and all these amazing artists!
This is the first time I have been let down by Broadway composer/genius/mastermind Lin Manuel Miranda. This album lacks any cohesion (which can be justified, as it is a mixtape) and the tracks are hit or miss, with more of the latter than the former. The demos mostly fall under the typical demo trappings of "interesting but terrible." For example, the Valley Forge demo mostly got absorbed into Stay Alive, which has much better production, and is also much more streamlined. I really like that this got the until-now unreleased song Congratulations recorded, even if the singing is only average. The covers range from excellent genre-lifts, fun covers, mediocre but faithful redos, and terrible redos and remixes. These versions of It's Quiet Uptown, Dear Theodosia (by Regina Spektor, the other one is painfully off key) and You'll Be Back exemplify what I want out of these mixtapes. Satisfied and History Has It's Eyes On You are fun covers, but the former feels like very good Karaoke. These versions of That Would Be Enough and Helpless are just OK, but I am irrationally angry at them because those are two of my favorite songs in the show. The rest... dear God the rest. The covers of Burn, Who Tells Your Story and the reprise of Dear Theodosia are why I drink. I'm also very, very angry at Wait For it, which sexualizes the song and, by extension, it's nihilism. That's not OK. Say Yes To This and the remix of My Shot have grown on me, but the originals are MUCH better. Washingtons By Your Side is not my favorite, but I'm not a Wiz Khalifa fan. The other covers I usually fast forward. The only reason this seems to exist, since it isn't getting the proper radio promotion, is that this is Lin's petty passion project. We know that this is at least the case with the so-ok-it's-average Helpless cover. Either way, if you're already a fan of the show, I think you should probably stream this and pick a few songs that you like to buy. If this is your first exposure to Hamilton, get the cast album, because that is nearly perfect, unlike this.
So, I have never composed an iTunes review. Never felt compelled. But I love this album. I have seen Hamilton twice. I immediately purchased the musical soundtrack after the first viewing back in October, but I didn't listen to it repeatedly because I knew I was going to see it again and I didn't want to be that obnoxious person humming or singing along with the cast (yeah, I'm checking you Mezzanine, Row K, Seat 319--you were obnoxious, I wanted to hear the cast's rendition of the songs). Second time, I was so close to the stage (8 rows from front stage) that I could see the spittle from the actors' mouths. I pretty much started playing the soundtrack non-stop. That was only a little over a week ago, December 21st. I didn't even know about the mix-tape until tonight. I did a precursory listen to the songs. Jill Scott's "Say Yes To This" sealed the deal and I hit the $14.99 tab. I have finished listening to the songs, and I am not disappointed and I don't regret the purchase. I love many of these covers. But I love hip hop. I love R&B. Hell, the two times I saw Hamilton and saw so many middle class majority folks sitting amongst me, I wondered, do they know? Do they know that Ten Duel Commandments is basically a play on Notorious B.I.G.'s Ten Crack Commandments? And FYI, Ten Crack Commandments was not a Notorious B.I.G. radio hit. You don't know the B.I.G. track unless you know B.I.G. music. But that's the beauty of art. The beauty of what Lin-Manuel Miranda has done here. He has really made this genre palpable for a group of people that would initially be dismissive or tentative. If you are someone who is good with different interpretations, if you love the songs so much that you are open to different interpretations, you'll love this mixtape. The truth is a few of these songs are the original versions Lin-Manuel came up with when he was working on the musical (FYI, Lin-Manuel initially was going to do the Hamilton project as a mixtape but he gathered enough interest to get it produced as a musical). If you are someone who needs to hear it just like you heard it at the show. Skip it. You will never be satisfied. You see it, right?
Hamilton is my favorite musical of all time!! So naturally I was extremely pumped for the Mixtape and can't wait for the inevitable Vol. 2. Don't get me wrong I love this Mixtape (added the CD copy to my Hamilton collection (Broadway CD, Hamiltome, Burr: A Novel, The Mixtape CD)). My only negative is that there were to many covers for my taste. I think the covers are great, but I found myself gravitating more towards the original stuff, and demos. Overall I love the Mixtape, but would have liked to see more original stuff. Maybe on Vol.2.
I didn't truly know about the sensational Hamilton until earlier this year. But it has taken me aback, I truly love the lyrics of every song. It evokes every bit of emotion a person can ever have. But that's not even the musical's best quality. The fact that every character singing is loveable. From the pompous Thomas Jefferson, to the loving Eliza, all the way back to the genius of Alexander Hamilton. This mixtape was amazing, and I absolutely cannot wait for Volume 2 from Lin!
This mixtape/album is a perfect example that it is still very possible to create good hip-hop and R&B music if artists actually want to be artistic and not just go for the quick buck.
sorry I was so disappointed the Mike Pence speech was not on here... this truly is horrible, why is this a thing
I like the orginial cast recording better of coursem but this is such a fun cover!!
the songs definitely "blow us all away"! 😉
Why is there no Alexander Hamilton or Guns and Ships???
I am extremely upset about this album. None of my anger comes from personal distaste. What angers me is that Hamilton is a Broadway musical that has sold out every show until 2017 (if we're lucky) and has had one of the most amazing broadway casts i've ever seen. The fact that our society has to turn something as extraordinary as Hamilton into a "mixtape" with singers who aren't Broadway singers disgusts me. Not everything has to be turned into what society wants. Hamilton is already making millions, so this was not necessary to make money. Also, it is not the singers' faults. They are all individually talented at what they specifically do, but I don't think they should be singing Hamilton and making it into something it's not and wasn't ever meant to be. I love all types of music (except country) and all I can say is how disappointed, disgusted, and offended I am over this album.
Love it. Fave is Sia!!
Lin, you have done it again Keep creating
Helpless & Wait For It 😍
I love this mixtape so much! It's not as good as the original but it's still great. If you don't have the money to buy the whole album. The best song on this album is immigrants.
yall this is good you should buy it. Like really. Congratulations is such a great song and so is all the other songs!! If you like Hamilton you're going to like this
Seriously, Lin Manuel Miranda is perfect. Everything he makes is amazing and perfect. Keep making amazing music man
AMAZING! Awesome lineup of artists. Beautifully written score for an amazing production!!!!
Is everything.
This mixtape is amazing. It has the perfect songs for whatever mood you're in and has some really neat arrangements. Hamilton fans should absolutely get this and even if you're not a Hamilton fan I highly recommend it. FABULOUS.
How is it that Lin-Manuel Miranda is not only the most talented dude alive, but also the humblest? From his free-styling to his genuine love of others. I feel better knowing this guy exists.
Absolutely brilliant! It's so different from anything else out there. I've had it on repeat for since it dropped!
Every note, lyric, melody, attention to detail from an audio perspective to perfection. Lin, Thank you for representing Latinos, Americans, Culture, and Talent in the most profound way.
Listen to burn it's absolutely incredible
I loved Hamilton: An American Musical. I am definitely not thrilled with The Hamilton Mixtape. I thought the songs were going to be sung like in the play. But the new album is basically a gentrified version. Would not recommend.
Simply garbage
look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. Lin is just so amazing. First Hamilton, then the Moana soundtrack, then this omg A M A Z I N G.
Jilly from Philly, Nasty Nas, Common sense and the Lengendary.
Good job Sia and Lin. That's Sia's best song yet.
Hamilton the play and musical is a masterpiece! This album however, is a black lives matter money ploy. These artists need more grit and passion when trying to make these points and maybe just maybe they shouldn't just blame everything on the white man and take a look at themselves instead.
AHHHHHHHHH
I preordered this on the first day it was available. Lin, you truly give me hope for the world. As a long time fan of Hamilton, this offered new perspectives; it was simply beautiful. Hamilton (and now the Mixtape) is the only reason that I have motivation. Lin, keep being amazing and I wish you all the best. Endless love to you, all the actresses and actors, all of the artists on this track, and of course the Hamilton fans.
A must-buy album made for all regardless of genre preference!!!
slay me
Thank you so much Lin for gracing the world with another masterpiece😭. This is exactly what the world needed right now.... it's so gooooooooodddddddddd!!!!!!! If you're skeptical about buying this...... get it!!! 💖🎈🎉
😍😍😭 this mixtape is the best thing ever
This is a masterpiece. No, this makes masterpieces look like less than masterpieces.
