LINKIN PARK - One More Light

One More Light by LINKIN PARK Song Info

"One More Light" is a song by American rock band Linkin Park. It is the ninth and title track from their seventh studio album of the same name, as well as their last single with longtime lead vocalist Chester Bennington. The song was co-written with Eg White and was released to US contemporary hit radio on October 3, 2017 as the album's third single. It is Bennington's second posthumously released single. The music video for this song was also voted number one in a poll of Fuse Top 40 Videos of 2017 and is also nominated for Best Rock Video at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. In late 2016, Shinoda revealed that he had worked with British songwriter Eg White on a song. In an interview leading up to the reveal of the album's lead single, "Heavy", Shinoda revealed that White had worked with him on the song "One More Light" while Brad Delson attended the funeral of one of the band's friends. When asked what he wanted to write about by White, Shinoda said that the only thing he could think about was the friend who had passed. He revealed that, in spite of the horrible inevitability of loss, the song is about letting people know that you care. Later on the band revealed the friend was Amy Zaret, a 25-year veteran of Warner Bros. Records who died in October 2015 following a cancer diagnosis. Mike said, "We had a friend who worked for the record label for a long time and came up with us from years and years ago. She started out in radio promo and was basically driving us to the local radio stations in the U.S. Midwest, eventually getting promoted and promoted. At some point last year, I suddenly heard that she'd got cancer - and then all of a sudden she had died. We knew we absolutely had to write about what happened. It's a sad song, but the pay-off is that when something dramatic and painful like that happens, the most important thing to do is to connect with the people you love and remind them you care about them." The band surprised some of the people who worked at Warner with the song, and people reacted very emotionally to it, with some weeping, giving hugs, and telling stories. They played the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and dedicated it to their late friend Chris Cornell who had died a day before. After lead singer Chester Bennington's suicide on July 20, 2017, the band selected "One More Light" as their next single. Shinoda wrote "One More Light was written with the intention of sending love to those who lost someone. We now find ourselves on the receiving end. In memorial events, art, videos, and images, fans all over the world have gravitated towards this song as their declaration of love and support for the band and the memory of our dear friend, Chester. We are so very grateful and can’t wait to see you again." On October 25, 2017, American DJ/Producer and Linkin Park collaborator Steve Aoki released his remix of "One More Light", as his second tribute song to Bennington following his mashup, "Darker Than The Light That Never Bleeds", which was released a month earlier.

- Evolution

Like most people I'm missing the heavy guitar and grunt that they're famous for, but give this album a go. I think it's a bold move to move closer to pop for one album, just to show the critics from the "other side" that they can do that stuff as good as anyone. It's a fresh escape but I'll be happy when they go back to raw basics with the next release. Meantime, enjoy the ride⚡️

- Beautiful!

Although this music is far from their original style, highly meaningful lyrics coupled with the scintillating voice of Chester make this album into something special! Well done LP!

- Excellent.

Great album! Their versatility has always been a feature. Interested to see what they do live with the songs...rock them up?

- Extremely Lacklustre

I have always enjoyed Linkin Park's musical efforts, love their last six albums, from the nu-metal/rap rock of the first two albums to the electronica-influence of A Thousand Suns. I tried to enjoy these new songs, but I couldn't. Lazy songwriting, boring, overly repetitive hooks and the music doesn't push any boundaries whatsoever. Simply pandering to what is considered to be trendy in an attempt to maintain a position on the charts. Very sad effort from brilliant musicians who ought to know better. Would not recommend.

- Complete garbage

This is end of my relationship with this band. I've been prepared to entertain their other diversions, but I cannot for the life of me understand why they would head down this path. We already have too many pop bands churning out forgettable rubbish like this.

- Sad

I'm a big fan of LP but have never been so disappointed on this one they should've released under a different name because this is not Linkin Park

- Where did they go?

Where is the band that started with some much promise go? How is this Linkin Park? It is so soft and mushy that it sounds like anything else on the radio. Give me back my Hybrid Theory.

- There's awful and then there's One More Light

If you love terrible pop music then this is the album for you! If you're a Linkin Park fan and have been with them since day one, this album will put you off them for good. I am done with Linkin Park, this is a a disgrace! I'm into ALL of their previous albums but this.....this is next level garbage!!!

- Understanding

I understand why there was change. Bands like people need to grow and change. They can't keep going with the same old stuff. There are some good tracks on this album; my favourite is sorry for now. Good goodbye would be my least favourite. The lyrics of each song resonate on a level like they always have. People just need to stop and listen to what's being said. You'll find that hard rock doesn't fit with the lyrics which were written before the music. I do agree that this is very left field compared to what we are used to, but it's slowly growing on me. Every album they've changed their sound slightly and took a risk with a dramatic turn with this one. I do miss the "metal/rock" they are known for but things change. BMTH did a similar thing. No one liked their newest album but it slowly grew on them. I'm sure this will as well.

- Powerfully comforting

A Beautiful and emotional album served on a platter with empathy from Linkin Park Highly recommend! 5/5

- I like it

Battle symphony is my fave from the first 3 songs, looking forward to hearing the rest.. I don't mind it being a little different..

- not the same

I love LP for their heavy side, so very disappointed in the sound of this album. But i can understand that bands do need to change, but this is too mainstream for me. They are going to loose alot of their fans, but will prob gain a whole lot who like radio stuff. Its a shame as many bands that started heavy are going mainstream, and my list of albums is getting smaller.

- Trash would be too good for this

Its times like this I wish there was a zero star option

- One Direction???

Seriously, if I wanted a One Direction album I would have bought one. Massive Disappointment

- Insipid

A far cry from early Linkin Park. Even from albums like The Hunting Party or A Thousand Suns. This albums sounds like they're desperate to be on the radio again

- Marcho072

Just NO

- Oh dear

They are unrecognisable and have betrayed their style and fans with this new album that panders to the masses

- Very different

This album does lack the screaming highs we have come to expect from Chester, but really shows soul from each and every member of the band. And I love how Mike and Chester reversed the rolls of rapping and singing to see what it would sound like. Chesters sharp edges is amazing. Doesn't matter what all you haters say, your only halfway right!

- Lively and exciting lyrics and melody

I listened to all the albums, the new one has well thought lyrics and their tunes have great melody. My favourites are Talking to Myself, Halfway Right, Invisible and Ballad Symphony. Any band needs to reinvent themselves or otherwise you end up sounding the same. So give the album a good listen before you prejudge it.

- Holy cow!

One of Linkin parks best.

- Still Linkin Park

These guys are truly talented. I have been a fan since Hybrid Theory and I love how they continue to grow and change.

- Rubbish

Is this Human Nature?

- disappointed

very disappointed they've gone away from LP and just main stream rubbish

- nu metal without metal

Linkin Park is no more Link Park now

- Soulful and a Welcome Change of Tone

This is a mix of new and old with the same great musicians at the center of it all, enjoyable, pleasant, full of meaning and soul, each song has something to say and says it in a new way without the need to scream. 5 stars.

- What the.....

Hello, are you out there. Help, I am obviously stuck in an alternate universe where decent bands have changed from grungy metal to fluffy teenybopper rubbish......what in the world is this pathetic excuse for music, you've lost another fan guys.

- Disappointing

If you love One Direction - you'll love this. If you love the old Linkin Park - you'll most likely hate it. I know I do.

- If I was able to give half a star I would

This is a band that has no care for its fans. Bands have to evolve and build on their past. This album has completely disregarded that. This sounds like it would be sung by someone that won X factor not linkin park.

- Do what you love LP

Great music is what LP love and are good at. This album is not what general public expected from them. For me, an LP fan from day one, I wouldn't expect anything other from them. Every album is different from the prior - and yet it is always music that I can connect with. Love listening to these songs as much as I love listening to Crawling and With You. Please continue to surprise us.

- bad

Just Bad

- A New Linkin Park

Been a Linkin Park fan since I was 4 years old after hearing crawling on the radio. Now this album very far away from their roots. However, it's still the same Linkin Park at the core, still the same relatable and deep lyrics, and still the same amazing instrumental pieces. I believe that this is a step in the right direction for Linkin park as they experiment different types of music styles. Over all a great album, would highly recommend if you're a pop fan or if you're a Linkin Park with a open mind to change.

- One More Light = Another Great Record

So let's start by saying this isn't rock or ✌️nu metal✌️ This album is another style and for good reason! This album is one of the most personal albums they have recorded to date, it is short hitting only 35 minutes, but in that short period, you are listening to a strong range of emotions and messages. Chesters voice really gives the new style justice, with a unique echo sound and the switch with Mike doing vocals and Chester as a support in some songs, just shows how the band are still happy with the music they make and love to mix things up every time. If you want to fully understand this album, I suggest you go and watch the interviews regarding One More Light. This is the only album to have ever been name after a song, which holds a very strong connection to all the band members. This album is very easy listening, the best way to fully enjoy the sound is to lie down outside on the grass in the sun and just hit play! I will be excited for the next album in the future. Well done Linkin Park, you have created another masterpiece for your legacy! 5🌟 To the haters...... your not TRUE fans. Move on, Linkin Park has 🖕

- Awesome - roll on May 19!

Can't decide if getting a few songs ahead of the release date is awesome or cruel and unusual. Every album these guys produce brings a new sound and while I still love Hybrid Theory every single effort since then has been a thouroughly enjoyable and new experience. Heavy is powerful and emotionally charged and for a relatively simple set of lyrics its breadth is magnificent. Good Goodbye has some real snap and Battle Symphony is a work of genius. I am however dying to hear the rest of the album and my wife and daughter are about to snap from hearing Heavy for the 600th time... Keep up the good work Linkin Park.

- Beautiful

Every album is different. These guys blend genres to create the best of different types of music. I'm now glad this band is making this album to showcase their versatility and how they can make any genre sound awesome with their songs. Absolutely beautiful tracks.

- It's awesome

What's with the reviews? They are known for switching up their style. Almost every single album is something different! It's great, sounds good just different.

- Different, Still Awesome!

I have listened to the album multiple times & the only thing I can say is it's awesome, been a fan since Hybrid Theory's release & although this is different from that and Meteora it doesn't make it any less great. Linkin Park has been changing from its first album to this one, they gave people what they wanted in there last album Hunting Party and it's reviews aren't great either (2.5 stars out of 5, 65% out of 100%). Keep it up Linkin Park don't listen to the haters, your making great music. 👍

- I like chocolate cake

I like chocolate cake and always will. Do I want to eat chocolate cake every day though? No. Sometimes I feel like carrot cake. This is carrot cake. Some people don't like carrot cake but that's ok with me.

- ?

Best Tracks: Battle Symphony, Talking to Myself Worst Tracks: Sharp edges, Invisible

- Amazing. LP is Back!!

Every song released so far from Heavy, Battle Symphony, Good Goodbye & Invisible, Linkin Park have delivered songs with powerful lyrics, messages & concepts. Sonically its in the realm of Living Things/ A Thousand Suns. However it does sound quite different to previous albums but in a very good way. The title track, One More Light is incredible probably one of their best ever done & Talking to Myself is great too. They don't copy & paste sounds over & over like other bands. Linkin Park are in their own gerne and create a new sound experience every album.

- Forward to the future

I really love Linkin Park from my teenage years and will love them till the end. Not expecting greatness, what I'm expecting a new perspective in music and in the messages that they're trying to portrayed. Every words, tunes and instruments that they come up with are very powerful and deep. Amazing stuff! Keep growing in music. Spreading the love ❤️

- Not good (Disappointed)

So sad to see how mediocre this album is. hardly any instruments or any effort put into it at all. Hate how poppy and electronic, computerised it is, doesn't sound good at all. I'm not going to compare it to the older stuff. On its own, it's terrible. Just because society is all about mainstream pop/electronic/techno garbage doesn't mean you should fall linkin park, you have failed everything you stand for.

- Brilliant and bold new direction

A brilliant album. Don't listen to the rocktivist Hybrid Theory haters. The band have been producing a new sound on every album since Meteora; why would anyone be surprised at this now?! Highlights for me include the opening track Nobody Can Save Me, Talking To Myself, One More Light and Sharp Edges.

- MIA = Linkin Park

What has happened to L/P???Always have been my favourite band from the day the first album dropped but they are now almost unrecognisable. Very disappointed 😡

- Evolution is the key

Love the diversity of LP always evolving

- Amazing

They have always delivered great music linkin park rule

- Terrible

Sounds closer to one direction than Linkin Park. Really disappointed, please go back to your roots LP

- Rubber Neck

Ah this feels quite commercial to me. Im hoping its an april first in MAY!

- This is NOT Linkin Park

If I could give it 0 stars I would. So disappointing from a band who were so good. Pandering to the gods of radio airplay. Next collaboration will probably be with Bieber or Swift ffs.

- Progression

I'll always be a fan of LP. I've listened to them from the very beginning and I love how much they've grown as a band. They're creative, versatile and awesome live.

- LINKIN PARK

Great album still miss hybrid theory but this is good
