SHC by Foster the People Song Info
“SHC” is short for 'Sacred Hearts Club', the title of the band’s third studio album. The subject matter of the song is both a person with whom Mark has a relationship, and God. Many of the lyrics can be applied to either entities. The relationship aspect of the song captures the wonder of loving someone and struggling to overcome the loss when they leave and the presence of God is explored through his “omnipotence.” Overall, though, the lyrics can be related to the band’s statement from the release of the EP: "One of my favorite things about music is that it’s unifying. We wrote these songs to reflect joy in a time where people have needed it more than ever and we thought it was a good time to share them with you." “SHC” continues the EP’s theme of finding joy in life and being able to connect with others through experiencing hard times. Instrumentally, the song includes guitar and instrumentals reminiscent of popular Phoenix and Two Door Cinema Club songs. “SHC” debuted on Beats 1 Radio with Zane Lowe on April 27th, 2017, but before the song’s release, the band teased it on their social media and during a concert they gave in Mexico.
