Green Day - Longview

Longview by Green Day Song Info

"Longview" is the first major-label single released by punkrock band Green Day, from their hit 1994 album "Dookie". The song was the band's first #1 on the Modern Rock chart, in a career that contained many chart-toppers on this chart. The music video for this song received intense airplay on MTV, which is largely credited for breaking Green Day into mainstream popularity. The lyrics describe intense boredom and are about a day spent sitting around the house, doing absolutely nothing of importance, masturbating until it is no longer fun, having no job, and no life. The song captured the attention of many youth at the time with its overt allusions to masturbation. Bassist Mike Dirnt has stated that the famous bass line intro to this song was written one night while he was high on acid, and what remains on the album is what he and lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong could recall in the morning. "It's about boredom, masturbation and smoking dope." - Billie Joe Armstrong "I guess it was just living in the suburbs in a sort of shit town where you can't even pull in a good radio station. I was living in Rodeo, California, about 20 minutes outside of Oakland. There was nothing to do there, and it was a real boring place." - Billie Joe Armstrong in an interview in Guitar Legends magazine, May 2005. "When Billie gave me a shuffle beat for Longview, I was frying on acid so hard. I was laying up against the wall with my bass lying on my lap. It just came to me. I said, "Bill, check this out. Isn't this the wackiest thing you've ever heard?" Later, it took me a long time to be able to play it, but it made sense when I was on drugs." - Mike Dirnt in Rolling Stone magazine, 1995. It is said that the name of a song came about after the band took a trip to Longview, Washington where they first played this song. - according to Jim Baltutis, their press agent for the concert. In 1995, Green Day was Grammy-nominated for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance for "Longview". This song can also be found on their 2001 greatest hits collection International Superhits and a live performance can be found on the Bullet in a Bible DVD. The music video takes place in a dimly-lit basement unit of a house in Berkeley, California that the band used to live in. The band members say that the look was intentionally grungy. This was Green Day's first music video and was directed by Mark Kohr. Cinematography was by Adam Beckman. The video was edited by Bob Sarles, who also edited ZZ Top's "Legs" music video. The "Longview" music video was produced by Robert Caruso of Commotion Pictures for Warner Bros. Records. The video was nominated for three MTV Video Music Awards in 1994: Best Group Video, Best Alternative Video, and Best New Artist. Released - June 6, 1994 Format - CD Recorded - 1993 Genre - Punk rock Length - 3:59 Label - WEA International, Reprise Producer - Rob Cavallo

- ^You’re*

These are all great songs.

- 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Amazing as always! Green Day never disappoints. I’m also really glad they added s song from the Trilogy on it.

- Almost perfect

This would’ve almost perfect if they had Christy Road.

- Hope Back In The USA isnt album only

I'm a HUGE GD fan, so I already have every GD song on here. I only wanna buy Back in The USA. I hope that song isnt album only.

- Huge fan

Amazing

- Omg just check out the songs

❤️

- Green Day is back old school

I can’t wait to hear the new album Greatest Hits is gonna be the best than the International Super Hits ! Thanks Billie Mike and Tre

- Just another best Of with mostly same songs!

They already have A best of! Why not just do part 2 and do songs post 2003 since the last best Of was in 2002? Total money grab! Lame

- Hey guys it's a Joke

The joke of "Gods Favorite Band" comes from Tre saying a joke on a live concert DVD. Obviously, it's not a serious remark of title. They are being funny, and making fun of themselves.

- Love

Love the song with Miranda! 💕

- Amazing

Just amazing

- Green Day’s finest

I love all these songs there are a few that didn’t make it that I would have liked to see but still all classics and absolutely love back in the USA

- 🖕🏻

Come up new stuff posers

- Finally...

Been waiting for this forever and I am NOT disappointed!!!

- Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Yes, all of these songs are previously released, BUT, they finally got smart and released Boulevard of Broken Dreams as a buyable single (without you needing to buy the entire album to get it). I cannot tell you how long I've waited for them to do this. For that, this album gets 4 stars. Plus, I mean, it's Green Day, so you can't really rate them anything lower than that.

- Not necessary

The songs on this are great, but they already had a greatest hits album of all of their hits up through warning. Maybe a greatest hits from American Idiot to the present would be a better idea.

- Teeny Bopper Garbage

Sell outs, all for money, and without heart and soul you just have auto tuned zombies

- Can’t wait

As an Green Day hardcore fan I can wait to hear this, also the special version of Ordinary World and the new song Back In The USA. Although it says that this album has 2 new songs it’s only 1. (Maybe they are counting the version of Ordinary World as a new one).

- Nope

All terrible songs

- YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Great songs! Life long fan!!!

- OMG

I love this band. I’m just a teen, didn’t grow Up w/ this kinda music, but my mom did, and she raised me right!

- Should Have Started at American Idiot

I love the track listing, but I think that it should've started from the album American Idiot to Revolution Radio (plus bonus tracks). International Superhits had Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning. If these album's songs were cut from the track list, there could have been more songs from UNO, DOS, and TRE. Really? Only Oh Love? What happened to DOS and TRE? It should have had AT LEAST Stray Heart and 99 Revolutions.

- Should have just done International Superhits 2

Should have just done International Superhits 2 and only pick songs from American Idiot and onward

- More like gods favorite walking contradiction

Aren't the three of you atheists? And why release another best of album? What's the point of this. Nothing on RevRad was a classic especially compared to what you guys have made in the past.

- Amazing 💕💕💕

An amazing collection of songs from an amazing band. To all that say "Come up with new stuff", they just came out with a new album, let them do something while they work on more new music. These greatest songs albums will never stop changing with a band that constantly comes out with great music. Also, don't take the title seriously, it's just a joke lol (although I don't deny that if god does exist, he'd definitely listen to them 😉).

- Beautiful compilation!

I’ve been a fan of Green Day since the first time I saw them play, in a mostly empty warehouse in Berkeley, many moons ago! This album is packed full of truly awesome songs- I already have them all, but it’s worth getting the album, nonetheless. Green Day is timeless perfection 😘

- AMAZING

Such a good compilation of songs, and Back In The USA is absolutely amazing!!! Green Day literally never disappoints💞

- More should be included

I know a greatest hits album can’t include everything, but Nimrod and Insomniac didn’t get near enough attention

- Shakerag 1 is dumb

Yo Shakerag 1, have you literally never heard of sarcasm? Because a band of atheists naming an album "gods favorite band" is a joke that like, anyone, even someone who is religious, would totally get. I feel like people from your personal life call you captain obvious. And btw, you are literally the classic trope of being a hater. When normal people don't like something, they just simply don't listen to it. Haters feel the need to broadcast their dislike.

- Posers Posing

Wow! They actually took a break from doing stupid Broadway shows to figure out a way to get the suckers to buy more product. Who buys this corporate imitation of Punk? They're about as Punk as the Archies. Just the worst.

- God Listens to Green Day

This is a ballsy album title considering none of the band members are religious, but Green Day has never been held back by political correctness. They one of my favorite bands; even as they evolved to a more mainstream sound they kept writing songs that I love. If any of my fellow Christians are offended by the album title, then y'all need to get a sense of humor.

- Great Compilation of all of my Faves !

Love It💚 & WOW 💚 I LOVE THE NEW VIDEO!!!!!! “Back In The USA” is so great that I’m sure it will be stuck in my head for days! I would have picked these songs out myself. (Of course us diehards would just string every album together on a loop) but this is the next best thing. Now that the Tour in the USA is over, I really miss you guys!! Not to worry, I am still listening Daily since RevRad came out in Oct 2016. Truly GOD’s Fave Band AND MINE. Is it weird that I just want the candles for Christmas? 💚💚💚#GreenDayPunksRocksLoves

- YUSS

Looking forward to it.

- Its worked before : Try again? Fail

Green Day : A band that rose to popularity big time with their album Dookie in the early ‘90s started to slump towards the late ‘90’. So they release a Greatest hits with a couple of pretty goods new songs. They then do a super political and driven CD called American Idiot-that allows them to do it all over again... The difference this time, is follow up albums are really poppy crap with a couple of good songs- They then release 3 full albums of this crap - Again with just a couple of very forgettable songs .... Now in order to try again they release “some” of their actually Great songs (missing many others) and added some of the forgettable crab. No a political driven video for a not so good song! - Guys “hire someone or write songs with some punk friends” This direction just isn’t working.

- Love it but

Where’s Scattered and Jesus????? Still a great album.

- Worth $12.99

A nice collection of songs. If you like Green Day it’s worth the download.

- God's Favorite Band

I preordered it and it's gonna be great!!
