Guns N' Roses - Rocket Queen

Rocket Queen by Guns N' Roses Song Info

"Rocket Queen" is a song by American rock band Guns N' Roses, featured on their debut studio album "Appetite for Destruction". The song is notable for incorporating moans from a woman, Adriana Smith, who was recorded having sexual intercourse with the band. Slash stated in his autobiography that he and Duff McKagan wrote the main riff to "Rocket Queen" when they first got together in the short-lived band Road Crew with Steven Adler, prior to Slash and Adler joining Hollywood Rose. According to frontman Axl Rose: "I wrote this song for this girl who was gonna have a band and she was gonna call it Rocket Queen. She kinda kept me alive for a while. The last part of the song is my message to this person, or anybody else who can get something out of it. It's like there's hope and a friendship note at the end of the song. For that song there was also something I tried to work out with various people—a recorded sex act. It was somewhat spontaneous but premeditated; something I wanted to put on the record." A credit in the booklet for "Appetite for Destruction" reads "Barbi (Rocket Queen) Von Greif", implying that she was "this girl" Rose mentions in the quote. Slash states that, while Von Grief was only eighteen at the time, she had a notorious reputation and was "a queen of the underground scene back then. She'd eventually become a madam, but Axl was infatuated with her at the time." She was also mentioned in the acknowledgments section of L.A. Guns' self-titled debut album. In an October 1991 interview in Guitar Player magazine, John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers said Axl Rose told the Chili Peppers that Guns N' Roses had the Chili Peppers in mind when they recorded "Rocket Queen".

- From the looks of it , it appears some songs will be missing from the iTunes release??

On my preorder, it says preordered next to some songs and then next to others there is nothing. If I don’t get the full release, my review is going to drop to One Star. Review has been edited. If it contains the entire release then it will remain at 5 Stars.

- Awesome !

Songs that were unattainable now are !

- Remastered

Really excited to hear one of the best hard rock albums of all time remastered. Demos are just icing on the cake.

- Monster Album

I agree this has to be one of the Greatest debut albums of all time. I wore out the cassette of this album nearly 30 years ago. This is a must have.

- Perfect.

The greatest debut album from any artist ever.

- YES

in a time of horrible music.. out of the ashes comes more GNR music ❤️

- Gn🎉f R !!!!!

Good compilation Hits and more , Expected!!!

- Top 5

Top 5 Album All Time. As close to a perfect album as you can get. Each instrument from each player fits perfectly with each other and as a whole. Bouncing drums of Adler. Next level blues/metal/rock guitar from Slash. Punk infused rick and O/A bass, Duff. And Izzy’s rhythm playing is the guts of the band. And his writing with Axl. Best album to isolate instruments.

- Excited

Can’t wait for a nice clean version of the acoustic jumpin jack flash. Where is Cornshucker?!?! And the fact that they are trying to pretend one in a million doesn’t exists is dumb. It’s a real song, there are people who really feel that way, sure you might not want to be blaring that song in your car driving through some neighborhoods but to just pretend it never was recorded in the first place and not included with everything else from that era is a shame. Let the purchaser decide if he wants to play it or not. The beastie boys felt bad about some of their lyrics they wrote when they were younger and refused to play those songs in concert because they matured as a group and realized they were wrong but they didn’t take them off their albums. Is Axl not going to sing “let me put my love into you” when he’s out touring with Angus? That’s a song that tells the woman “don’t you struggle, don’t you fight” as he talks about being with her. Enough of the PC BS, it’s rock n roll.

- Guns n Roses for ever

The Best

- Finally...

G n' R's "Appetite for Destruction" is arguably the greatest hard rock album of all time. I've been looking forward to a remastered reissue for a long time. This is a sound SORELY missed in rock music. The song 'Shadow of your love' is a great track...the fact that it didn't make the original cut of the album shows you the quality of these songs. We can only hope there is an album of new material on the way at some point from Guns N' Roses. Thanks!

- Give it a rest!

Same crappy album today, it was in the 80’s.

- Missing a song

Where’s One in a Million at on this 🤣

- November Rain bootleg version

Assuming this is the version of November Rain with Axl solo on piano and vocals from the bootleg, that alone is probably worth the money. Granted, the resale value of my bootlegs is about to plummet, but as a fan I am pleased.

- One In A Million?

This will be a great collection but are we seriously acting like One In A Million didn't happend?!?!

- Welcome back.

Oh boy, I’m hyped.

- Please - Nothing new here

Rehash just buy the roots of GnR an be done with it. Everyone already had Appetite anyways remastered. Not worth the money here .

- It's ok.

Lived it back in 1987-88. Good album but now they're just trying to make a $$$.

- Pretty

Dope

- ...gun’s ‘n f@&;(&g roses rocks!!!

Glad something is coming out, but I’d still like to see the guys put out something new for all of us fans that never gave up hope on this band! We get this, plus they did the live shows too! For all the reviews I’ve read here that were negative, if you don’t have anything positive or good to say, why say anything at all....you don’t have to listen or purchase!!! For those of us who care, and also realize this band saved hard rock at a time when it was really needed, and also lived the same lifestyle, and the music right a long with the band, this will rock! A thank you to everyone in the band for putting this out, the tour, and for settling your differences for all us diehard fans! Maybe you can get us something new as well! I know it would truly rock, and be well received by most all of us. Cheers guys, thanks again, and keep the fire burning, rock on!!!

- Guns N Roses!

Cool I wanna buy it!!!

- Awesome

Got all their music, it is a nice they are releasing most of it. Good times awesome music, but times pass and we all get older. I still rock it out!

- G’n’f’n’R

Shadow of your love rocks! Interesting sound, way different than Appetite for Destruction. Can’t wait to hear those Sound City recordings. The legend of this era of Gn’R will only grow with this collection, adding new context to a timeless classic. Don’t miss this one!

- Greatest Album of All-Time!

Can’t wait! There’s an old phrase that stated ‘music hit perfection in 1974.’ Well, that’s wrong. It hit perfection with this in 1987. Excited to hear some of the new releases. A MUST for ANY GNFNR fan!

- Shadow of your love

ROCKS!

- Locked N’ Loaded

This is one of the best albums in history. No it’s going to sound even more amazing than it did. We are going to get a lot of demos and potentially unreleased songs. The only disappointment is the lack of Live material. It doesn’t matter though, because this album is godly.

- Ecopest

Awesome collection😎 tour on this with Steven F’N Adler and Izzy F’N Stradlin🙄. Enough

- This set will make my bootlegs obsolete!

Looking forward to having official releases of these recordings, and nice to see Shadow of Your Love get some love as a lead single for this set - it's always been a deep track favorite of mine (have had it as the b-side from the Live and Let Die single, as well as from the Hollywood Rose release and other versions). Too bad One in a Million is being left off here (Axl even said a few years ago that he was going to be "deleting" it from the Lies EP) - I get the reasoning, but still, I always looked at it as the lyrics being spoken by a character, like Eminem has often said he does in some of his songs as Slim Shady, and not characterizing the band itself (heck, Slash was fine with it). The Heartbreak Hotel and Jumping Jack Flash versions are lost gems that are not to be missed (I managed to get a now former member to include a couple of bars of Hotel into his solo during some shows before the Vegas run, pre-Slash/Duff reunion). 6/29 can't come soon enough... the songs will come at you in rapidfire! ;-)
