The 1975 - The 1975

The 1975 by The 1975 Song Info

The 1975 is the opening track to every 1975 album. This track originally utilized various euphemisms for oral sex. The title track opens The 1975’s self-titled debut. It has been interpreted to be an intro to “Sex,” another track on that album which expresses intimate details. It was revamped, with the same lyrics, as the opening track on The 1975’s second album, 'I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It'. It was again used as the opening track on the band's third album 'A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships', once again retaining the lyrics, but with revamped music. A new interpretation of the track was included on the band's fourth album 'Notes on a Conditional Form' which abandoned the original lyrics in favour of a spoken word speech by teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg. For their fifth album 'Being Funny in a Foreign Language' the band once again changed up their eponymous title track by returning to lyrics penned and sung by frontman Matty Healy. Rather than the concise ten line poem about oral sex of the first three albums, this time Healy points out his own flaws in a stream of consciousness, over pianos inspired by LCD Soundsystem's 'All My Friends'.

- entirely disappointing

i absolutely loved the singles, (It’s Not Living, Love It If We Made It, TOOTIMETOOTIME) but the rest of the album is actually disappointing. I didn’t enjoy it like I enjoyed the last two albums. It doesn’t make me wanna re-listen to it. I’m just extremely disappointed by it.

- beautiful

this is genuinely the best album of 2018, from the production to the lyrics to the guitars. usually albums this long feel like they lose their speed towards the beginning but this album never feels boring or uninspired. the ending is one of the strongest they’ve had on an album and the song ‘i always wanna die (sometimes)’ is one of the best this band has written to date. the album is so mature and is so different from anything the 1975 have ever put out and i’m so glad to be a fan and experience this wonderful music.

- A Dream.

Each of their albums(eras) has such a distinctful presence of unique sounds and form. This album sets beauty on a pedistal.

- beautiful.

beautiful. beautiful. beautiful.

- Phenomenal

❤️

- Best album of 2018

This is the glorious victory of humanity in face of technology.

- This album gives me hope

This album gives me hope in modern music, something I've mostly written off for the last 15 or so years. It's almost certain that there will be something in here you'll like, and it may just broaden your horizons in music. It sure has for me. This is The 1975's most ambitious and impressive work.

- More auto-tuned drivel

The reliance on auto-tune renders this "music" unlistenable.

- How to Draw

That 1 time my printer jammed real bad

- I love this album

This is my favorite album of this year the mix of beats is awesome and Matty’s vocals have gotten amazing

- New generation

I believe we’ve stepped into a new age of music defined heavily by nostalgic callbacks to so called better times yet in doing so we overlook the beautiful present we now live in. Andy Bernard once said he always wished he knew when the good times were before they were over. I’m here to tell you this music is now, and now is a very, very good time.

- they did that

they did that

- Amazing!

To you haters, it’s good and vibrant. Then you aren’t real the 1975 fans. I love the album and it’s worth everything. Keep it guys!!

- Wonderful

Undoubtedly the best record of 2018

- In l o v e!

the 1975 is breathtaking. their songs are written with so much truth & passion & love & heartache & edginess. this is just another amazing album that I’ll be playing non stop for months 💖

- Yes please

A addition to the discography

- Love this album

This album gave me the most feels of any album 10/10

- Meh

Definitely does not compare to their two previous albums. I’m not against bands changing their sounds, but 90s R&B doesn’t do it for me.

- amazing

this album is so beautiful🖤💫 love it if we made it is the best song to scream out loud !!

- Horrific

Truly one of the worst albums I’ve ever purchased

- Love

Super amazing

- their best album by a wide margin.

refined their sound and found their niche of individuality with healy at the forefront. love this way more than their first two albums. impressed.

- A Wait Long Appreciated

I've been a deeply devoted fan for years. This album has been much anticipated for me. Ever since their first single released June 1st, I have been eagerly waiting and checking, and waiting, and listening until November 30th. THE WAIT WAS WELL WORTH IT. It is difficult for any band to craft such ingenius musical artistry, but they have done it not once, but 3 times with their 3 major EP's, each being far and away better than the last (which says alot considering the perfection from each album.) So how do they do it? Through honest lyrics, raw musical talent, and gut-rending relatebility. There is something in each song that can be appreciated. Always love these guys, always going to be devoted to their music. Each release represents the magnum opus of Matty Healy, and yet he keeps raising the bar for himself and never fails to knock it out of the park. Incredible! LOVE IT!!!

- Oof

Trash af

- Oof

The 1975 was already awful, but this... this is bad. I do not understand how people can listen to their music and think that it’s good music.

- Awful

This is terrible. The music is just weak. It is nothing like OK Computer despite what you read, that album was in another league.

- all the feels

i love it so much omg. some people had some valid points that the sound is little bit different and there’s a slower pace, but i don’t mind it!!

- Grammy Worthy

Another smash from THE 1975 AKA BAND OF THE GENERATION

- Amazing

One of the best and most cohesive albums I've heard in my life. It's such a different and refreshing take on pop music. The lyrics are heartbreaking and the production level is unreal. This is some of The 1975's best work 🙌

- iTunes Needs to Fix

Completed purchase on release day, will not download. Cannot listen. Bad for artists but good for iTune$. Apple support cannot fix. Shady shady. :(

- I’m in love!!!

They never disappoint! This new album definitely captured my attention and just like past albums it was freaking amazing!

- Wow, a masterpiece

Never thought this band was capable of this level of craftsmanship. This is giving me Bon Iver vibes at times and I NEVER thought this band was capable of that. I’m in awe and love how wrong I was

- The 1975 doesn't disappoint

Another Amazing Album!!

- Overall a good album

I just started listening to the 1975 about a few months ago, I heard about this group from my sister and I honestly fell in love with their music. And this album seems really put together, I love the album cover it’s very simple yet so artistic. The only issue I’m having with it is some of the songs don’t make sense to me.. like the one about the robot? Why is that in here? It’s very different tho so I give them props for releasing something like that.. overall great album. I love always wanna die (sometimes) and be my mistake. They both have me in my feels lol.

- autotune

all i can say is autotune. die hard fan too. this is sad.

- Maroon 5 wannabes

Pop schmuck

- Awful, just pitiful

just no 🤦‍♀️ so disappointed.

- Yes!

I’ve been waiting for this to come out since April! Such a good album!!! 😍

- imma slow hoe

what a bunch a bops hombres

- beautiful. absolutely stunning 💞

so impressed!!

- How do they do it?

By all accounts this is s band I should not line, but man they write such catchy hooks..I think this might be my favorite album so far.

- ???

Not a good album.

- wow!

way better than i expected.

- The 1975 is Back

The album is slow and thoughtful. Brings me back to their first but with a new sound. I love it.

- I’m deceased

The last track killed me I can die peacefully now

- A slow burning triumph!

For the people asking “what happened” and giving this 1 star, I think you’re not understanding it and are probably only listing to 30 seconds of each track as you skip through. You’ll likely change your rating as you listen more. This is a very mature album from a band settling in for the long haul. A slow burning triumph!

- Nope.

So much nope.

- Crap

Rap

- Music for Cars

All those cats that are saying the singles are the only good songs...they couldn’t be more wrong. Incredible music with genius lyrics. Wow, this album lived up to the hype!!

- Love it.

This album is ace.

- ABIIOR = GONE

Well this has definitely GONE to another level. Yet more fantastic work from The 1975s, with a hint of Latin, this is going to be a hard one to beat.

- My basement has flooded

OFFICIALLY

- I can’t wait

Love this band

- omg

omggg

- Not a fan of the 2018 1975

So the title doesn’t fit the rating but I’ve given it 5 stars for its not living if it’s not with you, alone. That song gives me LIFE. Other than that, not a fan.

- Already AOTY

Of course this will be great. Thank you Matty, George, Adam and Ross for what I’m sure will be an incredible era and I hope to meet you all in Belfast in January.👍🔥

- I know it’s going to be amazing

I can’t wait 😇😇

- Love it

So good

- the 1975

going to be so good and we all know it!

- So excited!!

Every song released so far is a banger!! Can’t wait for the album!!!

- WOOOOOO

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

- wow

i’m sure it’ll be good because it’s the 1975 but it’s overpriced in comparison to their other albums which typically had more songs on them and were cheaper

- 1975 Just gone up another level

Cannot wait to hear the full length album! Matty you deliver consistently without fail! Your a credit to British music. Best British band around these days! Cannot wait to see you in January at Birmingham!!!

- so so excited

feel like im gonna yosh

- Beautiful

It’s going to be amazing

- Mmmm.

They made so much better songs in earlier years. What happened to Chocolate and The Sound?! Has the mastermind behind them two dropped out of the band?!

- 5 Stars already!!

I know this album is gonna be amazing!! The first 4 songs to come out are already amazing and different from one another!! Can’t wait to hear the full thing! 30th November!!

- what happened?

1st album of thiers i will not own! awful compared to previous stuff.

- consistently good!!

love love love 🙌🏼

- EXCITED

Took me a couple of listens to like each tune, hope it’s not the same with this entire album:{

- Awful

Experimental crap.

- Awful!

Sorry lads, experiment didn’t work. Disappointing.

- 😻💕

Full album out on Friday , I’m so excited , there isn’t 1 the 1975 song I don’t like , they always do so well . I’m so excited!!!!!!!! Xo // you look so cool xx //

- Yass

This is what life needs

- Bravada.

The quartets’ 3rd and high anticipated album branches into deep jazz and ultra pop. Infused with their minor collaboration with No Rome of the Philippines Matty Healy has taken what he feels necessary to provide the foundation sound to his more serious and more relevant social commentary on love, relationships, technology, venerability and strength - all extrapolated from current global and personal crises. The production is again faultless, with George Daniel now have worked on their bands 3rd album and fast adding himself among a serious contender for producer in his spare time, blending in the seamless production and ease of the sound on the ears all the while aptly interpreting the bands next sound and vision. The opening titular track which has been on all previous albums is a window into the bands currently meandering sound, if of course you have been brave enough to sequester yourself into not listening to anything recently released, well done, there is plenty to gorge on. “How to Draw/Petrichor” is a stunning rework of the band’ previous album track, while the catchy ultra-bravado “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME” is still a song that will linger as much as the band’ classic songs like “Anti-christ’”, “Me’, and “Robbers.” The difference to the 5 singles released prior boasts less pop and more nuance. Here Matty goes more to the softer side, using Radiohead’ 'OK Computer' as a template for the main ballast while effortlessly mixing in that niche 1975 lyrical style and passion. There’s far more piano, more bass elements, rough techno, well-balanced autotuned vocals and twisting of conventional sounds. There’s nothing to hide on this album as Matty goes on a full disclosure, honouring his past with cautionary messages. That being said, the newest material is a little harder to get into on a first listens and for all appearances could alienate some fans. But like most works it deserves to be re-listened to in order to get the full gravitas. With this first half of the ‘Music for Cars’ era now released and into the world, a tour on the way to fill in the time between the next confirmed 4th album release ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’ we have a lot to digest and a lot to look forward to with a renewed sense of optimism mired in harsh reality.

- The 1975 always deliver

Every song so far is a banger, it feels like the album sits somewhere in between the first and the second which makes it a very nice listen. Notes on a conditional form to follow next year and the first single out in February couldn’t be better news!! These guys gonna be blasting out my radio for at least 12 months if not a life time!

- 🎸

Lyrical geniuses 🎤🎼🎸

- Disappointed :(

I’m a massive fan of all of their music. But this album just really doesn’t do it for me. It feels a bit empty. I feel like some of it was lost in translation musically more than lyrically. But I have to say that Love it if we made it and Give yourself a try are absolute masterpieces.

- Album of the year (well it’s gonna be)

All the singles are bangers and I can’t wait for the full album 🖤🖤

- Wig

They snapped with it’s not living bye wig

- every single one a banger

can’t wait til the full album comes out if every song they’ve released so far is this good. I’d Love It If We Made It by far my fave 👌🏻👌🏻

- Nic Reed

Buzzing! Great song after great song!

- Been waiting

Been waiting so long for this, cannot wait!

- Love
