- Good, but miss the rock

Let it Happen and Take My Fire are the only rock songs on the album.

- The Strength to Let Go

I have never cried over a new Switchfoot album... until now. Overall, it was good. I love Switchfoot and all the evolution that has happened is change but not bad - just change. Every time a new album comes out, everyone is like hey man, do you remember ____ album? I'm not that person. But if you are picky, at least buy The Strength to Let Go. It is amazing, and, in my opinion, made the album single-handedly. I legit cried. Just. Don't listen to the haters. Decide for yourself.

- Great

Incredible sound

- Incredible

Amazing album.. my favorite by them so far. For everyone complaining that it’s not “rock”, it is rock. Sorry it’s not 2003 rock for you... if you want that go listen to music from that era lol. Great album guys. Instant classic

- Absolutely love it

I’ll always love switchfoot and their music! Heartfelt lyrics. Love everything! Amazing as always 👏🏼👏🏼

- Good, not great. Well done nonetheless.

Longtime Switchfoot fan here...the long and the short of it is that this is an album with several excellent songs, mostly good ones, and several that baffle me why they were included. In my opinion they would have been better off with a tighter track listing of 12 songs with the final two getting the axe. “Let it Happen,” “Native Tongue,” “Voices,” “Dig New Streams,” “Joy Invincible,” and “The Hardest Art” are the cream of the crop. Another solid outing from a consistent band!

- Why?

Why all slow pop music. What happened to the band that actually played instruments and had some rock going

- 🎤 Single Reviews 🎸

Switchfoot’s still got it! Voices was just released and WOW, what a song. Throw it on and crank the sub. It’s got hard hitting bass and lyrics seemingly singing about the information overload of modern social media. Native Tongue has been out for a bit and it contemplates the sorrowful loss of love in the world. Excellent song in its own right. And as always the music production quality is above average. Switchfoot continually puts out the best mix and mastering of songs available. Kudos Jon and team on another promising album.

- One Star Reviewers are Idiots

I truly don’t understand all these one star reviews. Have you not listened to Switchfoot throughout the years? Their sound has evolved and changed many times; yet they’ve always had “that” sound that makes them Switchfoot. If you can’t see it or hear it, you’re deaf or haven’t listened to all of their albums. Quite a few of their songs have a “poppy” feel to them, with less “rock”. Granted, their past few albums have seemed a little more rock slanted, so maybe that’s what you’re thinking? The Beautiful Letdown, their first major label debut was pretty “hard rock” and “Oh! Gravity” saw them transform pretty significantly, but their core sound is always there. Or maybe you just jumped on the bandwagon and have never listened to their older stuff which is full of ballads and anthems and full blown pop/rock songs. I’ve listed to these few songs and I know without a doubt this is the same Switchfoot from back yonder. Look at Jars of Clay if you want a group that mutates every album and doesn’t stay in one sound. Again. One star reviewers are idiots and they need to listen to their old stuff. Not EVERYTHING has been “rocky”.

- Well done

The negative reviewers have clearly missed the beautiful message of this album. Well done! Love SF and their music.

- San Diego vibe and lyrics that resonate with my soul

I’ve been a fan of Switchfoot since the Beautiful Letdown days. Back then they inspired me to start jamming on an electirc guitar. Here we are in 2019 and I still appreciate Switchfoot’s music. Their new album features the cool San Diego vibe that endearingly complements the serious topics their lyrics address (like grieving snd doubting your beliefs and learning to appreciate the present moment). The lyrics in this album, especially in “We’re Gonna Be Alright” really resonate with me because they acknowledge that as humans we do struggle... and that we also have the opportunity to seize a new beginning. Remember the lyrics in their song “Always” from Hello Hurricane— “Every breath is a second chance.” Great job once again Switchfoot. Thanks for the music.

- Really Disappointed

I was hoping they would get back to more hard driving guitars and meaningful lyrics but not the case worst production yet seems they needed more time off. After Fading West everything became like that production . Had planned to go to their concert but putting that off now. A Real Let Down

- Did not disappoint

Everything I’ve always loved about Switchfoot...themes that changed my life and my path 16 years ago, back again. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

- Different but I love it!!!

Always been a fan of Switchfoots stuff, and even though their stuff is different this time around I appreciate it! I love it when artists experiment and try different stuff!

- Love is our Native Tongue

I really appreciated how they pushed their sound and dipped toes into other genres. They've always pushed themselves, not to sell out, but to see where their hearts take the music. I loved how even though each song was distinct in its own way, the theme of love is our native tongue is ever present in every song, making the album feel well rounded and full. Switchfoot said when they were on hiatus the music was pulling them back into the studio, it wasn't their desire to make music that created the album but the music desiring them and I could hear that feeling in their songs. The passion of music and the love in their hearts was the driving force for this album; I could really connect to the emotion on this album. Native Tongue as a whole is a true piece of art. Love is our native tongue.

- Good, not great

I LOVE Switchfoot! So much that I will be seeing them in concert for the 5th time in March. The new album was good; it’s different, which I understand as music and people change all the time. However, I miss the old rock vibes. But I still love you Switchfoot! Glad you are back!

- A risky album indeed

While I waited for this album, I started to think about what the words “Native Tongue” meant to me. We all have our own spoken native tongues, and it feels like this album speaks to that with tracks from different reaches of music all while unifying it under the album’s main idea that love is our Native Tongue. In a promotional video, it was said that there were risks taken in this album, and as I begin to listen more, the more I feel like the risk has paid off. It is definitely a culmination of 20 years of music.

- Love Switchfoot!!!!

This band is awesome! Y’all keep it up! So glad y’all are back!

- Used to be good, not anymore!

This band use to be great, but they’ve become complacent and this album has Culture Appropriation as its label. Just bad taste.

- Bruhhhh

This was a beautiful letdown

- Welcome back!

This album is filled with so much creativity and depth! My dad introduced me to switchfoot when I was a kid, and we’ve enjoyed them together for years. It’s so cool to see a group of artists that you admire grow in their art as you grow up.

- Haters always hating

Songs are great. The people that don’t like them can go back to listening to their Lynyrd Skynyrd. Times change people. Jon Foreman is a great creator and continues to please my ears with music that incorporates the new sounds that most of us enjoy while still keeping the old school sound that we also enjoy. I can’t wait to hear the other tracks. BTW, I love Lynyrd Skynyrd.

- Great

Amazing

- LOVE

This is 🔥! ❤️ I understand the fans who miss the rock but I think it was very close. Yes, it’s mostly pop, but it’s so unique. And Let It Happen WAS rock. The guitar solo gave me chills👌.It’s not the average somewhat techno stuff with barely any vocals. The vocals are the main point of the song, and you can actually understand what they are saying over the music. The music just compliments his voice. It’s different, fresh, and it makes you want to dance. Also the message is just so beautiful! Our native tongue is love! The enemy wants us to forget that. But we won’t, because that’s one of the weapons God gave us. 🎶 sing to me, baby, in your native tongue, say the words of the wise and the young, love’s your language, love’s your native tongue...” ❤️❤️ As Christians, and even for everyone else, we need to learn to speak in love in everything we do. Updated- THIS IS AMAZING. SEVERAL SONGS WERE ROCK. THESE WORDS ARE SO MOVING. #takemyfire HE IS SO RAW AND BEAUTIFUL.

- Terrible

They are so bad now. Straight up sold out.

- Excellent

This is a really, really good album. Very diverse but still cohesive. Fans complaining about missing rock- there’s several big rock moments in the album. There’s not a bad song on here, and it’s filled with emotion. Welcome back boys.

- New Music, with Nods to the Past

For those who have been fans of Switchfoot since the Legend of Chin, much of the sound on the songs they've released up to now reminds me a lot of their early work. Jerome Fontamillas has been a positive influence since he joined the band, with his work in Mortal and Fold Zandura playing a role in some of the more aggressive sound the band took on around The Beautiful Letdown, but Native Tongue reminds me of Legend of Chin, New Way to Be Human, and Learning to Breathe a lot so far. So, in my opinion, this is not getting into some sort of new pop sound or abandoning instruments, but digging back into their roots.

- Sounds like Imagine Dragons

I'm more of an EDM/Synth person, but this just feels secular.

- THEY’RE BACK! 🏄🏼‍♂️

After listening to the first four songs released, I am more excited than ever about this album. They’ve already set the tone in a major way and if the rest of the songs are as good as what we’ve heard already, which there’s no doubt that they are, this album is going to slay! Welcome back Switchfoot! Knew you couldn’t stay gone long!!

- Beautiful songs but I miss their old rock sound

This album is full of great songs but it seems to lack the classic switchfoot rock sound. Wish they would take it back to their roots

- Let it happen!

I’m enjoying the songs released so far. Good job guys!

- Color me disappointed

I’ve followed this been for a long time and I have to say this is the worst product that they’ve released to date. This just sounds like alternative pop. Computer music… anybody in this band play instruments? So sad. They used to be an excellent band.

- Great album

This is one of their best albums to date.

- SO EXCITED!

All the tracks released so far have been amazing! Let it happen is my favorite song so far...but I love them all.

- Perfect

Best album yet!

- Expression of the Soul

The lyrical genius of Jon Forman and Switchfoot strikes again! Many may knock the instrumental part of this album, just because Switchfoot is expressing their souls in a new way does not mean they have forsaken their roots. I am thrilled by this album and will be blasting it for years to come just like, “The beautiful let down”, “Nothing is Sound”, “Fading West”, “Oh, Gravity”, and “Where the light shines through” to name a few! Homerun yet again!

- Disappointing

It is disappointing to hear a band who you know is good, but then trails into the realm of which all true fans fear. The trap of striving to apeal to those who can not tell the difference betwen digital drums and electronic. Repeat loops that you can add or take out with the touch of a button in a concert where you don't need an actual person to express themselves through the music. Too bad, I gave the album one listen, it'll be the last listen.

- Another Home Run

Ignore the bad reviews of people who can’t handle change. It’s clear they put their all into this record. Another home run boys. Way to leave the world a better place.

- wow....

20 years in & I swear this band just keeps getting better. The writing is incredible, & the album is an interesting mix of big, anthemic radio songs, & raw, heartfelt, authentic mellow songs. Call me impressed!

- Sounds just like Imagine Dragons lol

That's a very bad thing.

- Not Good

Imagine Dragons?

- Fellow45

Great variety of songs. “Let it happen sounds” like a blast from the past. Keep them coming!

- FIVE STARS.

Switchfoot is the music I listen to when I don’t know who I am anymore. When life is low and all my emotions feel numbed and gone. I can listen to this band and EVERY TIME I start to slowly realize how this music reflects who I am in Christ and as an individual my uniqueness that is only mine, and how I want to be true to what I’ve always valued and to finish strong. I’ve felt completely alone and depressed and heard words and these chords which have picked me up, held my hand, and told me I can keep going, like a best friend or family member would do. “when I look at the stars, I feel like myself...” describes perfectly how I feel about Switchfoot. When I listen to these songs, I feel like myself! Sincerely, Switchfootkid Edit: the album is more than I could’ve asked for!

- Switchfoot Sold Out

Looks like this one was all mixing and producers.... very disappointing. And to clarify... I only put one star because I couldn’t put none

- Finally its released

This music is sick and twisted it is also freeking rank stank. 🏌🏻‍♂️🏂

- I love this👍

I'm extremely happy about what Switchfoot has done so far with this album. This is exactly what I have wanted from this album so far. There is no reason to hate. Good job Switchfoot, you did great!😁

- Excited!!

This band has been around for 20+ years and people still expect them to make the same music. Switchfoot is changing with the times while keeping their original charm. The 4 singles have made me extremely hype for this album!

- Yet another great album!!!

They just released the full album and I’m already OBSESSED!!!! CANT WAIT FOR THE CONCERT!!!

- Another classic!

These guys have never disappointed with their music and lyrics and this new album is no exception. Feel sorry for the few reviewers who can't understand their style. Really missing out on something grand.

- Shifting sound

Switch foot has been my favorite band for over a decade and Jon Foreman is a world class front man. I noticed their move from alternative rock 2 albums ago with “Fading west” They didn’t quite get it right with “fading west” though and honestly, I was pretty upset because of how poppy it was ( kind of like how when Linkin Park fans heard “shadow of the day”). There were certainly some solid hits on that album though, so it wasn’t a total loss. I feel like they totally redeemed themselves and definitely figured out the sound they were going for with “where the light shines through” which was there best album since “Vice Versus” and in my opinion there best album to date. I have no idea why “Where the light shines through” wasn’t more critically acclaimed though. It was one of those rare albums that you want to spend time with even the b side songs because they are so meaningful. All that to say, now that I understood where they were trying to go with “Fading West,” that album doesn’t upset me anymore and I am starting to see where they are progressing with the 4th song release on Native tongue, I am loving what I am hearing so far!
