Evanescence - My Immortal

My Immortal by Evanescence Song Info

Written by: A. Lee and B. Moody "My Immortal" is one of the most popular songs ever recorded by Evanescence. This song lasts the entire span of Evanescence’s recording history. It is credited as the 4th song ever written for Evanescence. Ben Moody wrote the original in full when he was 15 years old. It is the second song that he wrote for the band (Understanding is credited as his first). In the later versions of the song, Amy Lee is credited to have written the bridge and the coinciding piano part to the song. There are seven different recorded versions of the song. The Fallen version of the song has strings by composer Graeme Revell. Until near the end of 2002, the Fallen version was played live. They then began playing the Band version, which later became the version they released as a single. When performed live, Amy is playing the piano herself, but the notes are changed into a much simpler melody, probably to avoid mistakes during live playing. Amy has stated she hates the song because she can never really relate to it (and that you can notice when performing live), since it is not hers and not based on real events. The Mystary EP version is like the band version's demo recording. Amy is playing piano with added strings in the background. It also has some similarities to the Fallen version, although a lot of fans say that this one has a more sophisticated piano arrangement. Amy also takes short pauses in the choruses. The verses don't have much of a difference to the band version. Like the Fallen version, this version doesn't include the rock part at the end. Wind-up Records were unhappy with this version and decided that the Origin version was best, but with more strings in the background. The song has many different interpretations. Ben wrote a short story before writing the lyrics to the song. According to Ben, the song is about a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone. Ben dedicated the song along with the Fallen album to his grandfather. The song peaked at #26 on the Hot 100, #2 on the pop chart just behind Britney Spears’ Toxic, and was #1 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart for 3 weeks. The band version of My Immortal is Ben Moody's last recording with Evanescence before his departure in October of 2003. This song was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Performance by Duo or Group for the 47th Annual Grammy Awards of 2004.

- My new favorite band.

I've loved Delerium for decades, and though the variety is not the same, the feel and intensity certainly is. Her vocals are nearly excruciatingly delightful in their poignant emotional evocation. I simply cannot get enough of this "new age" injected rock. Check out the samples... you won't be disappointed if those appeal at all.

- Favorite Album!

Amazing songs!!!

- #Fallen in love

This was amazing ur the best rock band ever!!!!

- Love it

It’s perfect. ❤️

- 1 Star?

I’m not a fan of all of their other albums, but this album is an absolute masterpiece. Great songs from start to finish, with beautiful melodies, heavy guitars, thoughtful lyrics, and excellent vocals. It doesn’t get much better than this. Giving this album one star should be a crime. I listen to melodic death metal most of the time, but I can appreciate great music when I hear it. This album is a classic that has aged well, and will continue to do so.

- Classic

I love it

- True Emotion

Not only is this album one of the best throwbacks around, when you truly sit and listen to the lyrics, you can almost feel her pain. It’s emotional, moving, and it seriously ROCKS!

- I love Evanescence

This album is very good.

- I’m old...

My parents can sing every word to BMTL and I feel old

- Bring me to life

Only good song

- Bring Me to Life

The song itself gets 5 stars without a doubt, but I was very disappointed that when I hit “play” it began playing part way into the song. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it cut some off of the end too!!! I’m new to iTunes but have 2 gift cards to use up...it doesn’t take an old pro to figure out that a chunk of a song is missing. Especially when you’ve heard it before so you know there’s more there!

- This girl freaking rocks!!!!!!

She has amazing vocals and moody lyrics- this girl gets me (a little bit). She was actually classically trained before she sang hard rock. I encourage any moody hard rock loving preteen or teenager!!!

- Edgy

Edgy edgy edgy edgy

- better a hem...

WAKE ME UP! WAKE ME UP InSiDe!

- From the start...

Loved them from the first listen. Been a fan since their beginning.

- This is 2ndary to the Eve 2011 self-titled album

Yes everyone loves My Immortal & BMTL... Also Hello is beautiful too. But if you like this album then you should listen to the newer better stuff. The 2011 self-titled Evanescence deluxe album and The Open Door blows Fallen out of the water by far. You guys can’t be stuck in the past with the very old stuff.
