“JoHn Muir” is named after the middle school that Schoolboy Q attended in Los Angeles. On this track, he talks about having a gun at 13 and slanging dope at 14. When Q previewed this track at his listening party, he said: The beginning of me fucking with my homies from the hood. The beginning of me stealing, robbing, getting beat up, jackin’ niggas, getting jacked, the whole nine. This track also samples Jay Z’s “Where I’m From,” someone who Q says he get’s nervous around; much like the song it samples, Q paints a vivid picture of the world he grew up in.
