Don't Let It End by Styx Song Info
Don't Let It End is a 1983 Styx song written by Dennis DeYoung and featured on the album Kilroy Was Here. The track is a mid-tempo progressive rock ballad. In the song, the protagonist breaks up with his girlfriend and later wishes for the relationship back. In the United States, the classic reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in the United Kingdom, number 56 on the British charts. According to Dennis DeYoung, Don't Let It End was originally supposed to be the lead single from Kilroy Was Here, but their record label pushed them to release Mr. Roboto as the lead single. When performing live, the group often uses some of Mr. Roboto's guitar riffs on Don't Let It End, and the band pays tributes to musicians Tommy Shaw, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, The Beatles and Little Richard at the end of the song. In some performances, the group also performs a medley of Don't Let It End and Twist and Shout. The music video was directed by Brian Gibson. The video starts with Dennis playing Kilroy. Kilroy looks at a picture of his former girlfriend (the picture is of Dennis real wife Suzanne), after that Kilroy goes into another room which becomes a prison where Kilroy is now imprisoned. As a prisoner, Kilroy becomes a member of the Styx group, which consists of other prisoners. The group then plays the piece in prison. At the end of the video, Kilroy is back in the opening scene and looks at the image again making the video seem to be going on forever.
