On "Reminder", Hov is reminding his detractors what he has gone through to become who he is today. His success is unmatched in the rap game, but some seem to be forgetting his stature. In a 2011 interview with Fuse on the eve of his 9/11 benefit concert, Hov explained why he, as the Michael Jordan of rap, chose to respond to those sitting on the bench: "I almost took the record off the album because of that specific reason. I was reading a book the other day and the lines that were blaring to me said ‘The truth needs no explanation.’ And I was like ‘Man!’ If I had read that two days before you would have never heard it. But, you know, sometimes you have to be human. Sometimes you wanna scream and that was almost me screaming, like, ‘Are you kidding me? Who are you guys talking to?’ Like, ‘What have you done to even have an opinion on what I’ve been doing?’ Like, you don’t even have an opinion. And forget about close, ‘cause you’re not even close. You’ve done nothing to even have an opinion."
