Weezer started as a good joke, now it’s a bad joke

Everyone here is complaining about a cover not being different than the original. It’s different voices, played in a different way. They are doing covers, of course the lyrics are the same, and it’s “unoriginal”. I’d like to see you all do better!

It has a lot of good songs my favorite is sweet dreams but other than that weezer did these songs great

This was a cool album...but some songs I didn’t think were fit for Weezer... But I see a lot of 1 stars, and I don’t agree with those people...it’s a great album! Loved all of the songs!

What a horror show this turned out to be. The cover of Africa in particular is a complete disaster.

What record deal are they trying to get out of? Weezer covering a mediocre song like ‘Africa’ seems like a play to force a record company to dump them. That or they may be really old and tone deaf by now. This album makes me sad for them

I had been a Weezer fan since the Blue Album. However, when the Raditude album was hyped and subsequently sucked like a black hole. It was the poison pill that ended my loyalty, maybe I needed to listen to it a few times like Pinkerton; nope. That one was bad, bad-bad, like Star Wars Christmas special bad; where they should go out and buy all the traces of it’s existence and shoot it off into space as a warning to extra-terrestrial life to avoid this planet. Love you Rivers.

This covers album is awesome. You don’t have to go crazy to make a cover unique. The weezer sound as it is.. is already unique

Why don’t you do covers of blue/Pinkerton so you guys can be good again!? Bring back the guitars and get back to where the white album left off

Love the Africa song! It's better than Toto's version, has a fresh spin on it. A previous listener wrote how hard it is to do a cover of all different bands and sound this good. Kudo's to you Weezer! Thanks :)

This album is great in that they chose songs to cover that would work for thier sound. you can hear the weezer in all of the songs they sing and it is great. It sounds relaxed, just a band having some fun with music. I think they showed great respect to the original material and artists. I have heard so many covers of these songs that were way worse than these. Great job guys!

Covers that sound like the originals.

Seriosuly this is so bad. If I wanted to hear something like this i could for free at a local bar. I miss their unique sound, this is just more of a joke alubum and really can't be taken seriously. They really should just offer it for free cant imagine paying 7.99 for this.

I know this album reviewed a lot of criticism, but I personally like that they kept the songs relatively the same. These familiar beats and lyrics paired with River’s voice sound amazing. I like most of these songs more than the originals.

Pretty sure they made this album for themselves. We are just lucky enough they put down on wax.... I’m mean digitally recorded.

In lieu of attempting whatsoever to bring back rock for appreciative fans or young people, they just threw together popular song and played them straight—no originality, no creativity, nothing notable at all, except that Weezer apparently became a bar band playing sh**ty covers.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure when I looked over the tracklist. I think everyone has heard the Toto story ad nauseum, but the other selections seemed like a curious mix. TLC? Really? But.Then.I.Tried.IT. It wasn't bad, on first listen...and THEN, after being on heavy repeat, I've really come around to embrace this interpretation. They are all good, spanning an eclectic range. Do it. Listen to it. Accept.

When I first heard about this album (not just the initial, underwhelming Africa cover) I had high hopes for it. I like Weezer, who have a distinctive style. And I love a good cover, especially when a band takes an essentially good song and makes it their own, doing it in a different style. What happened here? Somehow they managed to make the songs all sound like Weezer, which is to their credit, but somehow they stayed too faithful to the originals, so they didn't end up owning them. What a weird trick. Ultimately they've missed the point of a good cover album. So instead of buying this album, I've put together my own Teal playlist of the same these songs with BETTER covers than Weezer's. For some of these are there are multiple, diverse covers that work. Buy these instead, and get more enjoyment: Africa - Tyler Ward & Lisa Cimorelli Everybody Wants to Rule - Lorde Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson; also Red Hot Chili Peppers; also Emily Browning Take on Me - Reel Big Fish Happy Together - Mel Torme; also the Nylons Paranoid - Megadeth Mr Blue Sky - the Delgados No Scrubs - Weezer (I'll give them this one: this song is so bad Weezer has the best cover ... maybe other bands will discover the camp value of covering No Scrubs in the future) Billie Jean - the Civil Wars; also Chris Cornell Stand by Me - Florence + the Machine
