Letter 2 My Unborn by 2Pac Song Info
"Letter 2 My Unborn" is a song by Tupac Shakur, released as a posthumous single from his album Until the End of Time in 2001. The accompanying music video received moderate airplay though it was less successful than the lead single from the album, the title track. The song samples Michael Jackson's 1989 hit "Liberian Girl" (from Bad, 1987), but is set at a higher tempo and features a female vocal backing track by Tena Jones (formerly of 4th Avenue Jones. In the song Tupac speaks to his hypothetical unborn child, relating stories of his own life and advising the child to avoid the troubles that he himself has faced. 2Pac writer the song with Michael Jackson 2Pac did not, in fact, have an unborn fetus when he was killed (although he was engaged). The unborn child is fictitious and metaphoric This song was mixed and released posthumously, one of many songs released by 2Pac’s mom before the recent litigation broke out between her and Death Row over the rights to 2Pac’s voluminous unreleased verses 2Pac never had a child during his life even though he really wanted one, this happened due to a lot of factors; he was often busy writing new songs in the studio, shooting videos and touring, so the time he could dedicate to his family would’ve been really small and maybe he didn’t want to be yet another absent father. Another possibility is that he might was not biologically able to have kids. Between all these doubts we have a guarantee, this song. He wrote it in the form of a letter dedicated to his child, a child that never existed. And even if Keisha, his wife, would’ve got pregnant after the release of the track 2Pac knew that in the short 9 months of his child’s gestation he could’ve very well get killed because of his lifestyle and the people he had to deal with, so he wanted to leave this track as some sort of last will, something from which the child could’ve learned something about his father.
