Suspicion by Elvis Presley Song Info
"Suspicion," written by Mort Schuman and Doc Pumas, actually preceded Terry Stafford's version, although many people mistakenly refer to Stafford's as the "original." Elvis recorded the song as part of his Pot Luck album in 1962. Elvis always had a knack for finding and choosing great songs, and despite his belief in this one, RCA did not release it as a single. In fact, "Suspicion," now viewed as one of Elvis's great vocals, was finally released by RCA as a "B" side to "Kiss Me Quick." "Suspicion" did not chart, as RCA chose to release it almost immediately after Stafford did in 1964. Stafford's vocal is most definitely an imitation, although a good one, when compared to Elvis's earlier phrasing and delivery.
