- Pretty good

It’s not as bad as people say

- Blacklist this Album from your Library

Of all the ways to celebrate one of the greatest albums of all time’s anniversary- Whose brainchild was it to put multiple versions of a small selection of songs and charge the fans $50. The selection of artists? What about a audio memoir (not unlike the history shared with Howard Stern) and previously unreleased live versions of the songs?

- Whoa

Damn…who would’ve thought. That all these folks might have been Metallica fans as well at some point in their lives. Well except for Mr. Taylor the rest truly surprises me by contributing to this album. That being said the (hardcore fans) this is not. For the older heads from the days of the first bassist Mr Cliff and the 2nd Newstead might actually appreciate this and know what I’m talking ahout. So I’m coming at this review from the standpoint of being a now more maturer or aged Metallica fan. That being said this almn may not be for the strictly metal folks. That being said…there are a few decently laid tracks on this album to give a sec to. Psst…Mr. Taylor’s jam does have heft to it…so at least there’s that for hardcore crowd. Cheers and happy headbangin y’all.

- Really REALLY Bad!

What genius thought up this little jewel? Wow! This is horrible. Come on guys!!

- Master Of Pupppets…

Master Of Puppets would have been a cooler remake IMO. This is good though, especially the St. Vincent and OFF! versions.

- listened to Track 1

it’s Kidz Bop. Why make a 50 dollar Kidz Bop album? Waste of artist’s time. I’ll just pretend this compilation album doesnt exist.

- Legit and different

Solid across the board. I like the different versions. Anyone who buys this thinking it’s “new” needs to learn to read. These are all covers.

- Poo poo

Poo poo

- Mac Demarco tho

😗

- Dave Gahan !!!

5 stars just for Dave Gahan on this!!

- Where’s Metallica

48 bucks wtf…

- Money grab

This is nothing more then a money grab from a band that most likely is out of ideas

- Love Love Love it!

What a great way to pay tribute to Metallica. Miley is always great at putting her spin on things. Ghost is beyond fabulous and Chris Stapleton knocks it out of the park.

- Why?

I would rather smash myself in the face with a hammer forever, than have to listen to this all the way through again.

- Covers of a classic

Plays great tribute to the originals with only a slight modern variation! Love it.

- If you don't like it, you don't get it

The "Black Album" is the album that started Metallica on the road to crossing over into mainstream music. There is not a stadium, dance club, strip club, party, or social gathering that takes place without one of the songs off this album playing. Metallica's the Blacklist is NOT a Metallica album for Metallica fans. It is an album for the ones who were influenced by Metallica and got into music through these 12 songs. It's amazing to see what some out of genre artists did to these songs. The different takes on these 30 year old classics is brilliant. Metallica's goal here is to branch out even further and influence a new generation and new genres. I can tell you that just by listening to this album I have come across more varied and distinct artists than I ever would have without this album. Listening to a techno dance spin, or country twang or punk version of these songs allows me to access more artists I wouldn't have thought of, it also gets more people into Metallica as theses artists fans will listen to these songs and choose to chase down the original versions. To be honest there are plenty of rock and metal bands covering Metallica songs, I am genuinely surprised and happy to hear what an ecclectic collection of various artists and genres could do to what was my favorite album in 1991. Listen to a version of a song you like and then chase down some of their other work, I guarantee you will not be dissapointed as you find yourself tumbling down a rabbit hole you never knew existed. If your main complaint about this album is that "Not enough thrash and metal bands are represented here" then you are missing the point completely. Most fans of Korn and Five Finger Death Punch are ALREADY Metallica fans, this album is a celebration of music and its ability to cross through genres, break down boundaries and bring people together....FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC.

- Absolutely brilliant

First off, who are the reviewers knocking this for being a bad “Metallica” album?! Did you just buy it because it said Metallica on it? This album is a beautiful, brilliant collection of covers Metallica put together to celebrate the Black Album’s 30th anniversary—an album that still sells thousands of copies a week at 30 years old! No, this isn’t Metallica, but the selection of covers and their performances are truly stellar. Great, Great album.

- Cash-in

This appears to be another cash-in project for Metallica. There are plenty of tribute albums if I want to hear someone else sing Metallica songs. And $50 for non- Metallica box set.

- super cool album

it’s honestly so funny to see rock purists crying and moaning about this, maybe branch out a little bit? just because something doesn’t have a million electric guitars blaring doesn’t mean it’s bad. there’s something here for everyone if you give it a chance! the contributions from rina sawayama, miley cyrus, mickey guyton, and phoebe bridgers are my faves.

- Loving what Pumps your Blood

Hey guys .. we all love Metallica and it’s awesome to see how it inspires other artists .. let’s welcome new listeners and new artist to discover true Hard Rock. In case you have not notice it’s fading away and Metallica it’s keeping it alive and in your face 🤘🏻♥️

- Welp

The problem here is that its cool that all these different styles of music are covering metallica but as soon as they start singing the song is completely ruined like they put no effort in except the instruments. Literally every singer except for chris stapleton and volbeat made the songs sound bad.

- Awful

If I wanted to hear a bunch of terrible covers of Metallica songs I’d go to a karaoke night.

- It’s for charity, people…

My god, people are trash. This is for charity. Read the descriptions and if you want to listen to these COVERS for CHARITY, then buy them. Otherwise, just be quiet.

- Great Diversity, Great Cause

I bought the album because I was a fan of the HU, and Metallica, and the money is going to charity. I left a positive review, ‘Cuz a bunch of Karens, need to BACK OFF, and let people like stuff! Support your artists, and illegitimis non carborundum.

- Cool way to celebrate 30th Anniversary.

First of all, the proceeds go to charity, so everyone can stop complaining about a cash-grab. Secondly, this is a super cool idea to have several other artists do covers of Black Album songs to celebrate 30 years of this monumental album. I don’t enjoy some of these artists and heck I don’t even know who all of them are. However, I’ve previewed several and heard many full length versions on SiriusXM and there are some awesome versions of these classic Met songs. And yes, there are some that are weird/strange or just not to my liking, but that’s music. Not everything is for everybody. Miley’s Nothing Else Matters is awesome! I’m not a fan of her work, not my style, but I really admired her take on that song. Similarly, Darius Rucker’s version of the same song is also great. Volbeat is amazing and their Don’t Tread on Me is strong. Weezer’s Enter Sandman is tremendous. Lastly, there are many more that are very good and interesting. I applaud all these artists for doing something different and for Metallica to help make it happen.

- Trash

Trash 🗑

- Absolute garbage

Literal trash.

- Disappointed

You know it says a lot, when you have over 100 reviewers on iTunes equalling a rating of 2 out of 5 stars.

- Horrible

Here they go doing anything for money how degrading to the music just horrible!!!!!!

- I only like one song

I like the cover Volbeat did on Don't tread on me,I liked it a lot more than I did Miley Cirus

- I really like it

Awesome re-edition, there’s some bad cover but my love for classic does not make me deaf, there's are some good covers as the Miley Cyrus one( I don’t get why people hating on her without any reason but to be true to herself) and the ghost one of course. And the best of it is that the album founds are going to different foundations❤️❤️❤️

- Garbage

Whoever thought this was a good idea, quit your job. This album is garbage.

- Absolute f*****g trash

I thought nothing ever could possibly be worse than St. Anger. WRONG. I know this is all for charity and all, but is the point to make zero money for said charity? An absolute embarrassment for THE foundational metal band of metal music.

- I like it

Sounds good. Been listening to thrash metal since the 80’s. Great covers. Lots of nice takes on them. Don’t listen to the “eVeRyThInG sUcKeD aFtEr JuStIcE” elitists. They hate everything….

- Not impressed at all

I was so happy for it to release but it’s not what I was expected

- I literally thre my metallica albums after listening to this

Wasted probably .99 cents for each metallica album bought from Goodwill after listening to this trash :}

- What is this St. Anger 2?

I agree with the other people reviewing this album that gave a 1 star rating only.

- A Masterpiece! Twice!

Musically, lyrically, and sonically the Black album was a masterpiece and so is the Blacklist album. The black album was the metal version of futurism and this album has that same feel. It’s a joy to hear the unique interpretations of these amazing songs. Those of you who are artist and genre shaming should take a break and listen to the music. Don’t miss out on the musical joy that our band, Metallica, has made for us.

- How embarrassing. Are these your kings?

Only someone as lame and out of touch as Lars would think this was a good idea.

- Snobs

Metallica fans are such snobs. They supposedly don’t even like the original Black album, yet here they are crapping on this! Anything that brings new fans to Metallica’s music is 5/5 for me. The Ghost one and the Miley Cyrus one are my personal favorites.

- OKAY!

A lot of people don’t seem to get it. Wow, I’m surprised. This is awesome!

- Who needs this?

Fifty bucks for a collection of songs worse than the originals? No thanks, I’ll pass.

- Give it a chance!

Each artist/band puts there own twist on original Metallica songs. The Metallica version is my favorite but some of these are pretty good variations.

- Cage The Elephant

Only version I enjoyed.

- At least Corey Taylor

At least Corey is on here

- Absolute disaster

This is the lowest bottom for Metallica - no zero stars option, so 1 star from me!!!

- Not good

It’s bad. Nothing else to say.

- Yeah, right

Not even close

- The hate is unwarranted.

A huge Metallica tribute album, all of these unique takes on classic Metallica songs are pretty dope. Not all artists I know or like, but I gotta say it’s still rad 🤘

- Ugh
