- Decent, monotonous background music

Going through the playlist and giving each song a 5 to 10-second listen, I can't help but think, 'Man, if this was her debut album, she might not be the star she is today'. I like Kacey Musgraves, but her songs tend toward redundancy and not just on this album. The thing about her other albums, though, is that the lyrics are sassy and the beats are catchy. This album is somewhere between chill wine bar music and elevator tunes. It's honestly making me sleepy.

- A Lush, Cinematic Audio Experience

“star-crossed” is one of the most ambitious and creatively daring albums that I have ever listened to. Kacey already took a big leap of faith in changing up her sound with 2018’s “Golden Hour”. This new project pushes her forward in eschewing the typical pop and country sounds of today and gifts the listener with an amazing audio journey that delivers what it promises: A modern day tragedy in three parts. Prepare to be enchanted by this new release.

- Not bad, not great

Is this really country music? This is more Adult contemporary soft easy listening. There's a few good songs, most aren't anything better than her previous work.

- Don't like it

This is more pop then country. I like the country sounds then pop. Country seems to going to Pop. Country is country and Pop will always be pop. Please don't change.

- Brilliant

Kacey’s first three albums were absolutely fantastic and this fourth does not disappoint.

- -_-

She’s taking the dixie chicks route with this one, focusing an entire album on man hating, being a victim and not taking any responsibility for ones self, and along the way she forgot to make good music. This is Gaslighter 2.0

- Yk

Good fella a bit more poppy that get precious albums but it’s good thou I love camera roll

- Disappointing

I love her music, but this album is just boring. It all sounds the same and there is zero emotion in the music. There is not even one stand out track. I listened to it a few times hoping it would grow on me. Here is to hoping for the next album!

- Great

Album is phenomenal

- She continues to find herself.....

There are some really beautiful moments on this release.....Good Wife being my favorite. That moment when you realize how much of yourself you're giving away--in-love--only to realize that you'll never get back what you put into it....no matter how hard you love. The loneliness is palpatable. She has such a great journey before her.....great album...

- Loved it

This album is a masterpiece!🤍

- Holy Autotune!

This misses the mark, the writing is basic and her beautiful voice is so electronic sounding I can’t take it. If she wants to make a pop album fine but at least make a good one.

- Timeless

Great album with relatable songs. I love Kacey.

- Queen

Easy listening! Great!

- Nope.

Not what I want to listen to when I think of country.

- Best Album of 2021

‘If this was a movie” is hands down the best song of the year; the album in general is fantastic as well. Country music is not one of my preferred genres, but Kacey is an exception. The Golden Hour (2018) album introduced her to me, and this follow up album—dare I say exceeds it?

- KACYY

SHE SNAPPPEDDD

- A Masterpiece

I love this album so much! It’s a masterpiece nonetheless! Thank you Kacey ♥️

- Perfection ❤️‍🔥

This album is stunning. Kacey continues to build on her legacy with her best work to date. A modern day story of how love can go terribly wrong and the path to healing. Kacey is strong and resilient for making this body of work. A true legend in the making.

- Masterpiece

Great from start to finish

- amazing

kacey exceeds expectations every time

- Bye

Buy and Stream Aaliyah 💋💯

- Isn’t this Pop?

Why is this in the country genre when it’s pop music?

- Kacey Musgraves brilliant follow-up to "Golden Hour"

Many of you know that singer/songwriter KM’s fourth studio album “Golden Hour” released in 2018 received a huge amount of critical acclaim, her fans loved it and it won all four Grammy Award categories it was nominated for, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album. KM’s 5th fifth studio album, “Star-crossed,” was released two days ago on September 10, 2021 The big question: could KM release a follow-up to “Golden Hour” that would be just as good? The answer is absolutely Yes. “Star-crossed” has a darker tone and with that I’m going to stop writing about “Golden Hour” and focus on “Star-crossed.” “Star-crossed is about KM’s divorce from singer/songwriter Ruston Kelly. They married in October 2017 and filed for divorce in July 2020. Listening to “Star-crossed” is like reading KM’s private diary about her marriage and all her emotions and feelings about that relationship. The first song and title track, “Star-crossed,” announces the end of the marriage: “I signed the papers yesterday, you came and took your things away.” On the second track, “Good Wife” she goes back to the beginning of her marriage and expresses how much she wants things to work out, but the tracks that follow inform us that things are not going well as KM sings about disappointment, despair, anger, regret, etc. until she finally arrives at the second to last track, “There is A Light,” which informs us that she’s going to be alright: “There is a light at the end of the tunnel, there is a light inside of me.” Most people who have been through a divorce probably will find it easy to relate to this album. Actually, anyone who has ever been through a difficult relationship can relate. The lyrics are easy to understand and very well crafted and insightful. She makes a lot of good points. For example, on the song “Hookup Scene,” she sings about the emptiness of just hooking up rather than being in a relationship: “If you’ve got someone to love, and you’ve almost given up, hold on tight, despite the way they make you mad, ‘cause you might not even know that you don’t have it so bad.” She understands that relationships are complicated and never perfect. That does not, however, mean that it’s time to end the relationship or file for divorce She also understands the process of healing. On “Justified,” she sings “Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line.” Her voice is strong and steady. She’s not shouting at us or whispering either. She’s in complete control. The music is amazing. While the sound might be country based, there is music brought into every song from almost every contemporary genre. It might be more accurate to call “Star-crossed” an alternative country album rather than a country album. To conclude, I can’t say enough good things about this album. I highly recommend it to everyone and suggest listening in order from the first track to the last. Note: There is an accompanying film “Star-crossed” featuring the music on the album. It’s available for streaming now on Paramount+.

- amazing

Literally so good

- 10/10 Absolutey love it!!

Kacey just keeps getting better and better! I loved golden hour but love to see her evolution into this new era and album. Every song has her signature infusion of country and pop it’s so hard to pick a favorite out of this phenomenal track list.

- Not a fan

I’m a huge Kacey fan, and have loved all of her albums up to this one.

- As expected, it’s a beautiful album

A lyrical masterpiece

- Trash

Golden hour was everything that this album isn’t. I listened to this once through and once was enough for me. The only 2 tracks that stuck with me are Camera Roll and Justified. Everything else is just kind of there. Really disappointed as I had high hopes. Guess I’ll be playing Golden Hour on repeat for 3 more years.

- Anne

So great

- It all sounds the same. Mainlining acid?

I find it completely out of touch. And Awful, not country, you need to take shrooms to appreciate this album in my opinion. But to those who enjoy, enjoy. And much blessings and success to her.

- Defining an era

With hints of golden hour this album is more introspective without the grandiose of the former album. The production is great and the album takes you on Kacey’s journey of losing love and all the feelings associated. There are some real mellow jams.

- Very disappointing!!

I’ve been a huge fan of KM for 8 years now and was really excited when I heard about this album. Just listened to it and it is super bland and boring. I know she just went through a divorce but the songs don’t have that special spark like her previous albums. Everything sounds the same. Nothing on this album is witty or even remotely sounds country. I cannot bring myself to even download this album. I hope she goes back with the other writers she used to work with for her next album. Very disappointed!

- Barely country

I have liked Kacey's previous albums. This one, to me, is an over-produced pop album with a tinge of country.

- A beautiful story of overcoming pain

It took a few listens to get into the album but I find myself falling in love with each song and it’s story. It doesn’t play the same way as Golden Hour and the hits are more sleeper hits but this album is actually a perfect shadow of Golden Hour. I do feel like Cherry Blossom could live in the same universe as Golden Hour. The harsh reality of this album may turn some people off. I love how she takes us on a journey in this new album. Absolutely love the album closing with Gracias A La Vida! Overall love this album but it definitely took longer to get into than Golden Hour

- Not her best work

She sounds monotone and every song sounds exactly the same. Boring. This album is definitely a miss and not a hit.

- Amazing!

Love this vibe

- Best album yet, Kasey!

Love the album! Chill beats and relatable lyrics. I have it on repeat. 🖤

- ITS A HIT

SUXH AN AMAZING ALBUM

- Amazing album!

Great music with a raw, emotional sound.

- Yikes!

Score another point for the Illuminati. I knew they'd get her.

- Terrible

You’d think going through a divorce would be a key to write a country music album masterpiece, but apparently not because this is horrendous.

- Nothing memorable here

Absolutely love Kasey Musgraves. Absolutely think this is not very listenable. Every song sounds the same. Put your hard earned money away. Hard to think of Kasey as a one trick pony, buy I’m afraid that is the case.

- Different journey, same beauty

It’s a winner

- Beautiful

Chills

- Disappointing

Disappointing

- Bummer.

I love Kacey so much. The thing that made Kacey’s music so unbelievably special is her songwriting abilities. I’m glad she’s doing what she wants for herself considering country music never treated her right (even though of course I loved her country music much better.) That being said, the lyricism on this album is not Kacey standard. The song Camera Roll is the closest to a Kacey song. The rest of the songs sound computer generated. I will always love Kacey, but I do not like this album.

- Only one song was decent

Was hoping the other songs aside from what she’d released were similar to her original sound or at least close. I love her music but this album was really bad. I was right not to preorder. I’m sad justified was the only semi good song.

- What happened to the old Kacey?

Kacey was great on “Oh, Tonight” with Josh Abbot Band back in the day. Very disappointed to see the direction her music has gone…

- nope.

this isn't country...
