Sounds great.
…but still not great. It’s a very good effort from them, but I fear they don’t have many more releases in them given the length between albums releasing. Some of the songs sound straight from the early days which is always fun for a revisit, but there’s not enough diversity on this album. It’s full of shredding and great licks, but nothing really stands out here. Still good though.
This album is boring and the production is horrible. Even at their attempts at speed, it’s weak because of the production. There are a few cool riffs but the negatives far outweighs and positivity. You fans have to really open your ears. If the Metallica name was stripped off of the music and it was played for you by some other group, you wouldn’t care. Because the music is not worth remembering. Listen to the new Over kill released on the same day
Ok I know it’s Metallica but, what’s with all the long songs? There isn’t one radio friendly song! Why did you guys drift away from catchy cool songs like Sandman ect… it’s loud long and empty sorry guys!
Meh
How do they still do this. No one comes close to Metallica
These guys have made some great albums, but sooner or later the ideas dry up, or “Fade to Black”. I grew up on the early albums and it was the literal soundtrack of my late high school years. I was on board with LOAD and RE-LOAD when they experimented with new sounds, but they lost me at St. Anger. It was literally “The Thing That Should Not Be”. It’s been hard to get back on the METALLICA train after that. I want love the new stuff, but I just can’t. They find these ideas and they stick with them even if they’re just garbage. This new “stop-start” method of song writing coupled with endless intros has left me looking backwards to enjoy any of their music.
Driving beat start to finish. Glad to be able to listen to new music that is metal, and isn’t so clean or so screamo or tired neoclassical I don’t know what. Btw kids this is how to showcase raw testosterone and that is a good thing.
Metallica are legends, however, they have lost the progression to get better. They instead reverted back to the 80's sound of metal. This album is ok. Not the best, not the worst. But not what I was expecting. If this was their last album I wouldn't be mad at all.
Review is only for the audio quality. The audio quality varies from song to song. One song sounds normal then the next track is lower in volume. Pretty disappointed in this, it’s 2023 Apple.
This is another made for main stream radio album. Very sad and extremely disappointing
Two diffent bands, pre 1991 and Post 1991...they were abducted by reptillians and stated producing the stamped out stuff we hear now.
I have lost interest in Metallica since they released Load and never went back in what now amounts to a decades, occasionally spinning some old stuff every few years, I don’t know what possessed me to click on this album in my Amazon music app, but I can’t stop spinning it, Metallica is definitely back to where it have left off so many of us back then, what a solid record, and Kirk to my surprise did an outstanding job too, by Metallica’s standards, don’t expect him to be Marty Friedman, he fits the style and definitely fulfills his role and expectations.
I really liked the first couple singles and then “If Darkness Had a Son” was released and it was absolutely fantastic…one of my favourite songs from this band in decades. And when I first heard “Feeding on the wrath of man,” on “72 Seasons,” I couldn’t help but smile. Hearing these guys still crank out songs like this… amazing. “Inamorata” and “Crown of Barbed Wire” are also excellent!
Sounds the same as the rest of their music
After listening to the whole album multiple times here’s my attempt at a review: First off my favorite songs are: 72 Seasons, Screaming Suicide, Lux Eterna, If Darkness Had a Son, Too Far Gone?, Room of Mirrors, and Inamorata. The back half of the album is solid, and in my opinion, better than the first half. To me this album has the angst of St. Anger with the production of Hardwired. I love the fact that Rob’s bass is very prominent on this album. About time! James’ singing is also top notch. Kirk has some nice solos here and there, but then some that seem kind of repetitive & non original. Lars’ playing is ok. Same 5-6 style of beats throughout. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. I really like the last song. Definitely gives me a Load/Reload kind of feeling. I wish they would’ve incorporated a little more of that style into this album, along with an acoustic song or two (or at least more clean distortion). All in all, not a bad album. Maybe a little lengthy, but all of their albums since Load seem to be that way. I think this is probably their best album since Death Magnetic and the production of 72 Seasons is definitely better than that album. I give it a 3.75 out of 5 stars.
Lets get something straight. Anybody naive enough to think we will evwr get an album from Metallica that comes close to the first four albums better stop smoking crack and and wake up. Having said that, there’s nothing wrong with the Black album, it just isn’t thrash and die hards want Metallica thrash as it once was. I would love that too, but its not going to happen. This record to me sounds great from start to finish and although the lroduction sounds exactly like the record before it (Hardwired), the focus here seems on making evwry section of the song memorable. From the first listen, eveything just sticks and stays with you. You can tell they worked hard in this. Had Bob Rock produced this, it would’ve been called The Black album 2. Its rocks and nothing else matters.
Crown Of Barbed Wire and Inamorata are sensational songs and I will go as far as saying that Inamorata is the best work they have put out - just sensational. I am very moved by that song. Lux Aterna & 72 Seasons are good songs that I will listen to, but I listend to Crown and Misery every day and love them. For me, there are 2 good songs, 2 great songs - and the rest I don't need to hear again. That is not to say they are bad, but they are not anything special to me. So that is why as an album I give 3 stars. I bought the enitre album because I had to in order to get Inamorata...otheriwse I would have bought Crown and Inamorata and called it a day. Those are 2 outstanding tunes.
Better than Justice.. Pure excellence
This is good rockin metal. Tryin to pass it on and reach some little rockers out there, and keeping us old dudes happy cuz there is just nothing better out there now... Edited....just heard If Darkness Had a Son, nice & raw. This could be their best in decades......can you just release the whole f-in album already?! Edited again…I’m fully enjoying this album, again, best since And Justice. Great new & fresh riffs.
Considering this was all a surprise, I am thankful for NEW Metallica and there are songs that I absolutely love on this album. I’m happy to be around to enjoy the ride!
Remember when they made the comment, naw, that’s just too stock. This must be that album. Uninspiring and predictable start to finish. I’ve listened to it front to back a couple times now. I think this is more of a child support album then anything else. Please, if you're done, be done. This isn’t Metallica.
Best metal album in years !!!
This album is so good if you have cats their fur will spike up
There are people out there who will say 72 Seasons doesn’t sound like Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, or And Justice For All, therefore it is a bad record. While those annoying idiots are entitled to their opinions, they’re wrong. 72 Seasons is an absolute banger of a record and Metallica’s best record is a VERY long time. The riffs are killer, tons of groove, the whole band sounds great, and the sludgy riffs are a welcome addition. Shadows Follow, Chasing Light, and Too Far Gone are all rippers and all could have been singles. First Metallica record in a long time where I don’t skip a track. Well done boys 🤘🏻
The LORDS of Metal have done it again!!!??
I love Metallica both before & after the Black album. They sound as amazing as ever & the fact that they are still going 42 years later is a testament to their talent & strength as a band.
This is everything you need in a Metallica album.
Metallica continues to reign supreme in the metal world, love this album!
I'm not a fan of the bright yellow album cover for a metal band, but it's all about the music right? I'm also not a fan of so many songs being released before the album drops. 72 Seasons should’ve kicked off the album as the first single and realease only one of the others as the a single.
This album encompasses everything that Metallica is up to this point, and experienced😜🤟🏻🫶☺️🤘🏻🔥🙌🏻 It blends all their sound from every album together😋
This is a pretty solid album. On my first listen, I noticed the extended interludes they would add; not just singing for the whole song. Allowed me to enjoy the music as well as the lyrics. Idk I just felt like they were enjoying playing throughout this album, like they did in their older stuff. People are just mad they don’t sound like they did in the 80s; almost like they got older and their sound changed. Weird concept for some people, I know.
I’m hooked on the album. I didn’t listen to the whole thing. There’s 2 songs that don’t fit on this album. Listen from lux eterna to the end - great songs blew me away!!!
This album is very good, the more I listen the more I hear hints of old Metallica. I’m a fan from the 80’s so I always hope to hear that Metallica again. And Justice For All and The”Black Album “ were their last Great Metallica Albums, the rest have been just good or OK., but this one is very close to the old stuff. That’s my opinion and review.
They only get worse. The new Megadeth album was way better. Hetfield’s voice is long gone. They’ve only gone downhill since Jason left. Recycled riffs and lyrics that go nowhere. No thanks. I’ll stick with their first 5 albums.
It's ok but sounds labored as in do we really have to this?
It’s it… this album to me sits in between the Black album and Load. It’s dark, moody, and heavy with groove. I was a doubter at first based on some of the singles but it’s really a good album all the way through, especially if you are a long time Metallica fan. Way to go boys!!
Metallica has obviously had their heyday. But this album isn’t a bad entry. It’s basically exactly what you’d expect from them now. The album is a liiiiiiittle over-produced, but in a modern way. Some of the tracks are very formulaic and monotonous in a way that you don’t want from a metal band, but I that’s a but nitpicky. We don’t get any notable breakdowns or ballad-style songs (apart from the 11-minute finale maybe), but Kirk still nails those solos! Plus, Lux Aeterna is one of the best songs (under 5 minutes) that they’ve ever done. 8/10
With every listen it’s evident that 72 seasons will go down as one of their top albums ! It has Metallica’s history all wrapped up in one package NWOBHM influenced on a couple songs & all those awesome riffs I love that it’s long can’t get enough of it 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
This is a great, great album.
I am Pulling these strings
This is a good one. The guitar riffs are unreal
This album was as if St Anger and Hardwired had a baby (I like both those album so not a diss). There was also a bit of a let down with marketing push they were doing - got my expectations too high. One problem I have with it is the lack of creativity. Most of the songs sound similar to the next as well as I’ve noticed quite a few lyrics are regurgitated from other songs of theirs. Lastly, they kept talking about Rob singing on this and I barely heard him sing or maybe he sounds a lot like James so I couldn’t pick his voice out. James sounds good but a little rough (not sure if that was intended by him or just aging on his voice). Lastly, my opinion on this is different from most but I don’t get the love Inamorata gets. It’s ok, but not the best song on the album. It’s just Friend of Misery repackaged 🤷♀️.
I’ve listened to 72 Seasons a few times now. I’m not sure what leads me to believe the songs are so similar and repetitive to the point that I wonder while slightly distracted if that’s still the same song. I am so disappointed that these brilliant professional musicians cannot create something a little more original and inspiring. Come on!!! The lick from Crown of Barbed Wire is the same as Enter Sandman!!! So many other instances on the album they are playing like a Metallica cover band. They’ve legalized marijuana and this is as creative as you get? I’ve never been inspired to write a review before but but the overwhelming “meh” compelled me. God it’d be great if Metallica read these reviews because they work for the fans. Have some pride and responsibility guys. So now you’ll insult us with $350 tickets next?
I know they're getting older but they don't have to sound like it. A few decent riffs but overall too St. Anger/Black album. They lost their grit
I love me this new jam. It’s easy to listen from start to finish. You begin to really take on some of these tunes like old favorites already. I’ve never seen Metallica live. Minneapolis is closet to me. Besides from the extreme good tunes of M, These communities unrest makes it a decision to travel there or not. I’m not only one who thinks this way. Rock and Roll brothers and sisters and God Bless America
Metallica is not like fine wine. They don’t get better with age. This is weak and cannot compare to any on their earlier music, especially pre-Load albums.
Chasing light perfect All the songs are the best that’s why this album should be on the top 10 best of metal and Metallica
Popular opinion doesn’t know what good metal is these days.
I haven't written a review on here for years, but as a huge Metallica fan from a young age I felt like it was worth writing one for this album. While 72 seasons eschews the sheer speed of their older stuff, the music here is some of the strongest they've delivered in a long time in my opinion. It's not perfect (Kirk needs to lay off the wah pedal), but unlike Death Magnetic (production was bad) or Hardwired (way too long), I can't really say there's a specific glaring weakness on this album. James' singing is the best it's been for years, and the lyrics are well written. Highlight songs for me, outside of the 4 singles, would definitely be " Shadows Follow, "Chasing Light", "Too Far Gone?" and "Room of Mirrors", but there's really not a song I would say to skip. Everything here has something worth listening to. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this album. Perfect? No. Thrash? No. But still good and well worth the listen.
