Green Day - Welcome to Paradise

Welcome to Paradise by Green Day Song Info

"Welcome to Paradise" is a song from Green Day's 1992 album Kerplunk and was re-recorded for their 1994 album Dookie. It went on to be released as the second single released from Dookie, after "Longview". The Dookie version was later included on their 2001 greatest hits album International Superhits!. The song is based on the band's experience moving out of their parents' houses and into an abandoned house in Oakland, CA where the band members, along with several others, lived without paying rent. The house was quite broken-down but to them it became home, and this sentiment is described in the song. Billie Joe Armstrong said this of the song: “ It's about West Oakland, living in a warehouse with a lot of people, a bunch of artists and musicians, punks and whatever just lived all up and down, bums and junkies and thugs and gang members and stuff that just lived in that area. It's no place you want to walk around at night, but it's a neat warehouse where you can play basketball and stuff. ” The opening riff of the song is reminiscent of the Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop", if one were to take the same chords but play the progression backwards using the same rhythm. The song is played with the guitar tuned a half-step down, as are all their Dookie songs. A live version of the song can be found on the Foot in Mouth EP and the Live Tracks EP. The song is also featured in the movie Surf's Up. Tracklist 1. "Welcome to Paradise" - 3:45 2. "Chump (live)" - 2:44 3. "Emenius Sleepus" - 1:44 * (Track 2 recorded March 11, 1994 at Jannus Landing, St. Petersburg, Florida) Released - October 1994 Format - CD, Vinyl Recorded - 1993 Genre - Punk rock Length - 3:44 Label WEA International, Reprise Records

- Green day

Green day is awsome

- Excellent album, but don't call it Punk Rock

There is no denying that these songs are extremely catchy and the album as a whole is quite good. This is Green Day's strongest album in my opinion. They would be called sellouts with their next album "Dookie", but I always thought that was unfair. Green Day was never a Punk Rock band. Punk Rock consists of bands like "Fear", "The Misfits", "Black Flag" ect. This is pop rock just like "Dookie". The band didn't change their sound on "Dookie", they just changed from the independent "Lookout! Records" to a major label. Not a suprising move considering their much more Pop than Punk.

- Dffg

O yeah

- FRICK, thats a good album

Omg, Best album except for dookie

- I miss the Old Green Day.

Coming from an obsessed Green Day fan, Kerplunk! and Insomiac have to be my two favorite albums. "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?" "One of My Lies" and "Christie Road" are a must listen =]

- Awesome album

This is such a cool album, so much better than 21st century breakdown Fav song-80 such a cool song if you are not going to buy the whole album at least buy 80, 2000 light years away, and my generation (cool cover by the way)

- good green day

underground best

- So good...

Happy, poppy, sing-songy, 90's punk-rock at it's finest. Sappy love songs and lyrics of youth. Makes you want to crank it in the car and sing at the top of your lungs. Perfectly nostalgic tunes from a band that totally defined music in the 90's.

- Very good, green day at its best in my opinion

well, i know this cd is old but it sounds F****** awsome. pop/punk/rock needs to come together like this again. in my opinion, one of green days best albums. I think GD's new album should bring this kind of music back. if all the bands that actually came from this type of music would make there older stuff again, man the world would be a much better place than it is now. when I think of how much this band has grown up over the years, it truly amazes me. Green Day has kicked every other bands a** in one way or another. GD FOR LIFE!!!!!

- Their best album

This is the best album Green Day ever put out. Its their most important album because without this labels wouldnt have recognized them and they would never have made Dookie. Every song on this album is great. From 2000 Light Years Away to the cover of My Generation. This album is pure gold

- takes me back

I have loved this album since middle school. It's STILL my favorite Greenday album.

- Lolz

Frikin amazizing

- BEST GREEN DAY ALBUM EVER!!!!

This album RULES!!!!! its the greatest thing green day ever made as a band! A MUST-BUY!!! non green day lovers $#*& OFF!!!

- two star guy lsp1234679;;7&/.?<

this is green day's first and best album

- Who Cover

Wait. Green day has a who cover? My generation for the win!

- Welcome to Paradise is better as the older version!!

I liked Green Day's older albums better, because of how different their style is. It's almost like they had two different styles...1039 and Kerplunk! were a very different style than the others. It's interesting how their band developed in such a way. Anyway, I rated this CD a 5/5 because the songs are catchy and I can relate to the lyrics, which are very well done. I am not a fan of remastering CDs however. I especially enjoy these songs on this album: Android, 2000 light years away, One for the razorbacks, 80, and Welcome to Paradise. Oh my gosh, it sounds SO much better in the old version than the new. SO much better!! Overall, this I LOVE this CD!

- Very good Album!

Aside from the natural old sound, this album kicks! It carries you all the way through it - you won't even realize how much time goes by! The best songs on here have to be 2,000 Light Years Away and Android, by far.

- Must buy!!

Green Day's music is soooooo good!! I'm addicted to their songs and Billie! They are just AMAZING! You will not regret buying their songs. Buy it. Buy all of their albums. Buy All their songs and love it!

- this album was what got them to dookie

though it might not sound the greatest this albums impact would have been alot stronger if green day was a bigger band when they made it the lyrics and bass guitar and drums rythm together is awesome and ultimately got them to dookie status (who wrote holden caulfield FTW)

- This is ok

After green day signed on to Tre' as there drummer the songs became a little bit better. The songs had more meaning. The point this is alot like 1039 smoothed out happy hours so buy half the album to get a idea what it sounds like. Thanks for reading

- the most awsome Green Day album ever

i love almost all of the songs on hear exsept dominated love slave i think that one is just dumb other than that is is amazing

- love green day

i love green every song of thers is great but i cant belive on my generation they replaced some of the bass solo with a guitar the bass solo makes the whole song . Green Day is the best!

- <3Green Day<3

Welcome to Paradise, Sweet Children & 2000 Light Years Away. Best songs :)

- Kerplunk!

This is my second favorite Green Day album, Dookie being before it. My favorite song is One for the Razorbacks. Here's a rating of all the songs: 1) 2000 Light Years Away-10/10 2)One for the Razorbacks-100000000/10 (yeah, I did that on purpose) 3)Welcome to Paradise-9.5/10 (Dookie recording better) 4)Christie Road-10/10 (Second fav.) 5)Private Ale-9/10 6)Dominated Love Slave-7/10 (sorta funny) 7)One of My Lies-8.5/10 8)80-9/10 (another good one) 9)Android-9/10 10)No One Knows-9/10 11)Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?-8/10 12)Words I Might Have Ate-8/10 13)Sweet Children-9/10 (It would be 10/10 if it was longer) 14)Best Thing In Town-I don't remember, don't listen to it much 15)Strangeland-8.5/10 16)My Generation-10/10 (A classic) All in all 9.9999999999999999999/10. - THIS IS GREAT

This is Green day's second cd and it is amazingly amazing. 1.My Generation, it is a remake of the Who's original 2.Welcome to paradise, this is a fun punkish song about hating your home 3.Christie Road, starts out slow but gets really fast 4.One for the razorbacks, it has a wicked awsome guitar solo those are my 4 songs that are my favotrite, GET THIS CD!

- One of their greatest achievements

Me being 13 I didnt ever hear the old Green Day. My mom bought me Dookie when I was 10, I liked them then but didnt truly consinder them my favorite band until a few months ago. Soon I bought this album, Warning, Nimrod, and 21st Century Breakdown. When I had been used to most of their newer stuff mainly from hearing it on the radio I was unsure about what to expect when I bought this album. I knew that this was their second studio album so I expected something toatally different. And I call this age of their music the era of when they were punk, newer albums I consider to be punk alternative. I still listen to all types of their music and other than 21st Century Breakdown I would call this album to be their best.

- best band ever

christie road is absolutley the best song ever!! wish they would go on tour and play it

- great album!

wow! when i first got into GD, i never knew there was an album before dookie. wow, was i missing out! this is probably one of my favorite albums, behind dookie and nimrod. great album! i totally recommend this album if you are a GD fan!

- Great original Green Day

I really love this album. I've been a Green Day fan for a long time, and Kerplunk! is an awesome album, especially to listen and see how much the band has matured over time.

- Kerplunk!!

Not their best but better than shenanigans and nimrod and warning

- Lisp45(or whatever)

This is Green Day at their best, shut up.

- Its the best

Its the best

- NEW (OR OLD) IMPROVED GREEN DAY!!

Green Day has finally remastered this great album. One of my favorites. DOMINATED LOVE SLAVE ROX!! WHO WORTE HOLDEN CAULFIELD!!!

- Kerplunk

Green day is the best band ever,I love this album and all there CDs,and for anyone posting hate comments you obviously like them enough to write something!!

- AWSOME

This is a great album the coolest thing about it though is that i didn't even thought this existed, and that welcome to paradise was remade for the album dookie which is also awesome. GREAT ALBUM

- Great Work!!!

I love this album, It is a good sound for them. I can play all this on guitar. It sounds like Billie Joe recorded this album with an over-driven tube amp. Most Likely a Marshall, I see a lot of pictures of him with one (Although I can get almost the same sound with my 1966 ampeg gemini and a tube screamer pedal.) This Album shows great songs and lyrics; so good it is one of my favorite green day albums. Love the Cover! They should use green more on there album art considering that it has to do with there name.

- "Life Before The Limelight.....There WERE Other Songs"

if you listen to green day....are you just listening to their newer stuff and their best-sellers? if you are, then go back to BEFORE dookie......why aren't you listening to songs like "80" "2000 Light Years Away" "Christie Road"? And also stuff from 1039/Smooth "At The Library" "Sweet Children" or "Green Day"? this is how green day began try to deny that its awesome

- Yes

I own every green day song in the itunes store and evry song thats floating around online and this is definetly my fav Green day album before 04

- Green Days 2nd Best Album

Kerplunk....one of Green Days most "underpreciated" albums. Besides Insomniac this is honestly one of the only albums I own that I don't skip a song here and there. There all just that good! Buy this, you will definately enjoy it.

- Fast-paced, awesome drumming

I didn't really pay much attention to this album for a while, to tell you the truth. But I've started listening to it more now and I'm happy with what I hear. I like the insistant rhythms and really fast drums that Tre has loosed in this album. Love it.

- Welcome to Paradise

THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING! I personally like this version of welcome to Paradise better than dookie's and thats my favorite song on Dookie! STILL THIS ALBUM IS THE BEST!

- anybody else notice...

The World of The Who claims to have this cover of My Generation, in fact they make a big deal out of it, and they don't have it.

- Best

I am a true Green Day fan (I have every album), this album is truely the best, take my advice, My Generation has some insane guitar in it too, But, if you don't like songs about girls and stuff like that, don't buy it.

- love it!!!!!

this album doesn't get enough credit, but i think its one of green days finest, click yes it u agree!!!!!!

- To the latest review: This was Green Day's 2nd Album.

1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was their first. To another review, do you mean that it (1) doesn't physically sound like green day or (2) it doesn't sound like the type of music green day would make? Hopefully, you'll pick the 2nd one because this sounds alot like green day's voice to me. This album is good and many other people seem to like it as well. Good for them. The band put many songs on their first few CDs and recent album which is good. The more, the better. Go, Green Day! No one should hate their old CDs.
