Nas - Take It In Blood

Take It In Blood by Nas Song Info

This song was on Nas' sophomore album "It Was Written". It features a sample of “Mixed up Moods and Attitudes” by the 70’s R&B Group The Fantastic Four and it also samples Kool Keith’s verse from “Ease Back” by the Ultramagnetic MCs. Some people argue that this song really isn’t about anything and just sounds good but if you do the research you’ll see that this is one of the most complex songs Nas has ever recorded. "Illmatic" was definitely a classic but it didn’t get the record sales it deserved and you can feel his hunger. He is literally rapping for his life. Nas had this to say to Complex: "I met Stretch [of Live Squad] by some dangerous cats that I was hanging with. Stretch became my brother immediately; we hung out all the time, almost every day. He wasn’t really recognized for the great work he was doing with 2Pac & the hardcore records he did with his group Live Squad, with his brother Majesty. Stretch was really hurt by 2Pac. I would hear him talking about how ‘Pac was so mad at him because Stretch was with 2Pac when he got set up and robbed in the lobby of Quad Studios in Manhattan, in Nov. 1994. 'Pac was mad at everyone after that. I felt bad for Stretch because he really had a lot of love for 'Pac & couldn’t believe that 'Pac thought he had something to do with it. Stretch dropped me off at home, then went home & was killed [in Dec. 1995, in Queens]. That was a real great guy. He produced “Take It in Blood” and “Silent Murder”—the irony. It was just a messed up moment for me. It was the last work he did."

- Amazing

Album, True to the game!!

- best album in the world

Every lyric is ringing with meaning and a message. This isn't quite up to the level of Lupe Fiasco, but it's pretty damn close.

- =]

LOVE THE SONG IF I RULED THE WORLD AND ALL OF THE OTHER SONGS! HE'S SUCH AN AMAZING RAPPER!!! =]

- Not impressed.

'Nuff said.

- Classic hip hop!!

Nas is one of the most creative lyricst iv ever heard.

- Classic

Classic album but I'm wondering who had the beat he used for Street Dreams first...him or 2pac? PAC used it on All Eyez On Me (title track) both came out in 96

- This is Hip-Hop

gives influence to many(FSR)

- Lyrical Architecture

This album marked the existence of phenomenon in lyrcs. Without this album...there would be no Jay-Z or Biggie or Craig Mack or whoever. This album has to be in your collection - IT's A MUST.

- Nas Escobar

This is Nas in his lyrical prime along with Illmatic. This album is nearly as great as Illmatic, I wouldn't argue with anyone who said it was. Classic, too bad they don't have Silent Murder on this.

- Nas's best?

This might be better than Illmatic. I like it more, too be honest. The trouble is, Nas never really returned to this kind of stuff. This album was the last time we heard a street Nas. Nowadays we never here the same Nas on "Shootouts" or "Live N***a Rap". When you listen to "Life is Good" right after listening to this, you'll know what i mean.

- If I ruled the world

Imagine That. Enough said.

- It was written

Nas is one the best we will see in a long time that why I listen to every word

- Amazing!

1. Illmatic 2. It Was Written 3. Stillmatic

- If ruled the world

Best nas song by far

- Classic

No album today can touch this album not even close. This was when u had to actually have lyrical skills.

- classic cd

not as great as illmatic but still very good. i think it is probably nas' 2nd best cd but im not sure, i liked hip hop is dead and stillmatic too. Best songs on this cd are 1. if I ruled the world 2. The message 3. affirmative action 4. street dreams( I liked this song a lot but I think all eyez on me by 2pac was better and this song used the same beat.) and 5. take it in blood.

- It Was Written

Classic! A must have for any Nas fan. "The Message" is a personal fav - sick track Collabs with Lauren Hill (14), Dr. Dre (7-8), and Mobb Deep (13).

- nice

Hella nice!!! Hip Hop Avenue!

- It Was Written

HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Nas is the GOAT emcee

This album is close to perfect. Every song is great except Nas is Coming, which Dr. Dre produced. It's not a bad song but certainly the worst on here IMO. Very gritty and mafioso style to this album and it's amazing. Definitely has a unique feel to it, similar style to Mobb Deep's The Infamous. Not as good as Illmatic, but definitely still a classic album. Favorite 5 tracks: Shootouts Live Ni**a Rap feat. Mobb Deep If I Ruled the World feat. Lauryn Hill The Message Take it in Blood

- NAS = one of the BEST

In my opinion it's his best album. Take it in blood is my favorite. Fukin nas foreverrrrrr

- I guess I'm alone on this,

but I was disappointed. Only liked The Message and If I Ruled The World, the rest of the album seemed shallow. Yeah the lyricism from illmatic is still there, but there is no depth to this album. It could just be me, but I listened to the entire album three times and still not feeling it.

- CLASSIC, JUST NOT THE BEST

Great album but not his best, Illmatic is obviously his best, but still amazing his lyrics still awesome, amazing flow, overall undeniiable classic

- AWESOME ALBUM!!!!!!!!

I love this album it's either his 3rd or 2nd best album. Can't say between this and stillmatic. Illmatic is definitely his best

- Classic

His best album my opinion

- Nasty Nas

There don't seem to be many people on iTunes that understand the weight of Nas's lyrics. Trying to match Illmatic is IMPOSSIBLE. It's like asking Da Vinci to make a better Mona Lisa. In my opinion, Nas is(or was) on another level and It Was Written is an excellent follow up to the best rap album of all time. He's a poet that tells a story with every song, no matter how "commercial" it is. The reason why people think this album sounds more commercial is because his "first album had no famous guest appearances."

- Amazing

This album is a must have for hip hop fans. His second best album!

- D. Amero Rothchild

Blk girl lost is my fav Nas is like.....

- Nas - It Was Written...

I love this album!! And seriously, I think I like it more than Illmatic. Sorry:/ hahaha But buy this!!!! I hope "Life is Good" will be as good as this album (course Nas never disappoints) and when Busta drops "E.L.E. 2" real boom bappin hip hop is comin back!! Best rappers in the game today!!! Nas and Busta Rhymes!!!! RIP BIG and 'Pac :'( We miss you!

- It Was Written (How it shoulda been)

1. intro 2. the message 3. i gave you power 4. watch dem n*ggas 5. take it in blood 6. affirmative action 7. the set up 8. silent murder 9. phone tap 10. black girl lost 11. suspect 12. shootouts 13. live n*gga rap 14. calm down 15. one & one 16. if i ruled the world - 'Street dreams' (even though it's dope) doesn't fit in with the rest of the album and could've been a nice b-side gem or placed on a soundtrack - 'Nas is coming' could've been placed on a pre-release sampler/snippet tape, the flow of the song sounds a bit awkward and if there's any Dre beat to put Nas on it has to be 'Phone tap' (basically 'The Firm' album didn't deserve it) - 'Silent Murder' is one of the illest joints I've ever heard and should've been on the official release, not just the early tape versions - 'Calm Down', a b-side for CNN was recorded around the same time and fits perfectly as well as "One & One", on Large Professor's 'The LP' that got shelved at first In my humble opinion this album in this order would have been a much more cohesive & conceptually sound album, and would have secured Nas' throne for many more years to follow '96 One

- Creatively ILL

An absolute masterpiece of musical creativity and lyricism....

- Classic!!!

This is an amazing album!!! Just what nas needed to jump start his career while still maintaining street credibility at the same time. This is a top 3 nas album for me. Another Hip-Hop Classic!!!

- In my opinion this album

Matches illmatic and is maybe even better

- Different but still amazing

Obviously this is different then Illmatic but it's still a classic. My favorites are I Gave You Power, and Affirmative Action.

- Seriously underrated classic

This album is hated on just because it isn't Illmatic. Its still amazing, with slick beats and amazing lyrics. On top of that, If I Ruled The World is one of the best hip-hop songs of all time. 5/5

- Great

Classic!!!! Nas is just as good in this album as he is in Illmatic

- Great Album

Amazing album. Obviously it's hard to follow up on Illmatic but Nas definitely did a good job at it. "I Gave You Power" might be one of the most creative hip-hop songs I've ever heard.

- Nas is a beast

look this album is the ISH my fav song on the whole cd is I gave you power he tells the story of being a gun soo good it unbeliveable no one will ever be greater than nas

- buy the whole thing.

Classic hip hop. QB all the way. affirmative action, take it in blood, the message... any of these songs would be the best songs on other albums, but not for Nas.

- Ignore Critics

Many will call this a mainstream departure or sophomore slump record, but disregard those comments. It Was Written is a true classic, if Illmatic isn't your style then you'll find love within this album.

- Features Greatest Track

No greater single Nas track than "If I Ruled the World." Debut albums are always tough to match with a sophomore effort, but if expectations were reasonable for the follow up, this would be considered a great album.

- another classic

if i ruled the world street dreams and the message are all master pieces

- Great Album

This is my favorite Nas album. One of the best albums of the late 90's. Played it in college every day, all day. Listened to it through again for the first time in a long time recently. Still great. Rap music just isn't the same anymore.

- Nas

Not the most well known album by Nas but it has some really good material on here. It also doesn't hurt that Dr. Dre helped produce it either. It Was Written and Illmatic are by far the best Nas albums. Though It Was Written doesn't get nearly the kind of credit it should it is a classic rap album in its own right.

- Frost wire or line wire

U guys r dum for buying these albums. Just download them free frost wire or lime wire there legal to Nas best

- Great rapper

Nas is the greatest and most iconic rapper ever to be

- Words cant Explain.

Everybody always talks about how great illmatic was. Lets just b 4 real. Illmatic cant hold a torch to this album. One of the gratest Hip Hop albums of all time. Illmatic was Illmatic but for every song on illmatic It was written has a classic song that can match it or is better. The Message, I gave you power,Take it in blood, Black girl lost, Affirmative Action. And this version is missing Silent Murder which was only on the tape. A must have classic. The kind of album you buy over and over because it either gets stolen or you lend it out and never get it back.

- El matatan nas número 1 in rap

The best

- i love nas

I love the song if i ruled the word. i love how he sings this song and all of his other songs waht ever happend to him did he stop making songs thats too bad if he did

- genius!

his only better album is the "illmatic", "stillmatic" and "i am" come very close though
