- great songs great cause

help these people, please

- Great Music. Great Cause.

I am a big U2, Jack Johnson, and Green Day fan. These covers of John Lennon are excellent! The Jack Johnson cover of Imagine is way better then the Avril Lavigne one. Save Darfur.

- Good cause bad music

right its for a good cause so buy it but the music is bad, i love john lennon (in okay ways) but really avril levine cant cover imagine mccartney could have but working class hero is still good

- great album crappy review

this album is great and everyone sings wonderfully but to all of you people who are writing reviews on itunes saying oh avril lavigne screwed it up or why are we only focusing on arfur and not uganda now there is alot of bad stuff going on in uganda but if they choose to make an album for darfur then thats great because there are problems everywhere. this is just an album with powerful songs that are meant to raise money. and i belive avril lavigne sings very good on her song and just because one song is bad does not mean there all bad! SO IF U WANT TO BUY THE ALBUM THAN GREAT IF U DONT FINE BUT DONT START SAYING THINGS ABOUT ONE SONG THAT MIGHT BE BAD AND DONT START BRINGING IN OTHER COUNTIRIES EITHER JUST REMEMBER THIS IS A GOOD CAUSE FOR A PLACE THAT NEEDS OUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Dear "..." :

First, let me say that this is a wonderful cause. The people of Darfur need help. But to ..., think before you speak. The people of america are not being tortured, killed, and raped before entire villages in massive numbers only because they are black.

- Great Album!

This album is for a great cause and brings back all of John Lennon's best songs. Christina Aguilera does an amazing job on "Mother" and Green Day's "Working Class Heroes" is great! I would definately get this album!!!

- this is a great cd but....

what's going on in darfur is not genocide. it's more complicated then genocide to be called genocide. it's so complicated in fact that there should be a new term for this. but in any case. this is a great CD. buy it.

- Everything is good, except...

Why avril lavigne? Honestly, they could have had someone with a more haunting voice sing the song. Thank goodness Jack Johnson saves the day later on.

- Subpar Renditions of Songs.

I had expected more from this album, and it would have been nice even to include any of Lennon's children in the album, especially Sean Lennon. However, whatever the case may be, I felt that the songs could have been produced much better. With the artists such as Jack Johnson, Snow Patrol, Postal Service, etc. all of which was on the 2nd disc, you would have expected a star studded cover of Lennon's songs. The songs were not bad, nor great, just mediocre. Jack Johnson's Imagine wasn't compelling nor was Avril Lavigne's rendition. Matisyahu was definitely something interesting; not great, but interesting. However, thumbs up to Ben Harper, Postal Service, Green Day and the Flaming Lips. But then again, this goes for a good cause, and hopefully most of not all of the proceeds ought and probably would go to the benefits of others. If that is why you are buying it, then good for you. If other reasons, you ought to look to buy a better album.

- For A Good Cause

It makes me cringe that some artists on this album have yet to really establish themselves as worthy and credible musicians and songwriters. But the songs of those who have already done so (U2, Christina Aguilera, R.E.M., and Regina Spektor) have moving renditions to timeless hits. And at the end of the day, this is a respectable cause.

- okay

Some of these songs are great, particularly: Mother - Christina Aguilera f. BigElf, I'm Losing You - Corinne Bailey Rae, Working Class Hero - Green Day, Grow Old With Me - Postal Service, and Real Love - Regina Spektor. Some of the others are just forgettable and slightly boring, and some have been absolutely butchered, like Avril Lavigne's Imagine. Where did she get the idea that she could ever sing that song?

- AMAZING!!!

Wow all you have to do is just look at the artist on this album you have some of the biggest names in the music business on this album. I am the biggest Jack Johnson fan and his rendition of imagine made the hairs on my arm stand up it was so good. I love the whole hippe feel to the album. Thank you to all of the artist who are trying to make a difference in Darfur by rainsing awareness with this album. Peace.

- People need to chill out.

Ok for these people who are claiming that they love John Lennon like he is their father just relax you morons! This music isn't about John Lennon, it's about stopping GENOCIDE! What is wrong with you people?! 400,000 people are dead, and counting and the thing you care most about is what Avril Lavigne did? I'm not saying it was a good cover, Jack Johnson's is way better. But seriously come on you IDIOTS! These are people in a place half of you probably couldn't find on a map, they are getting killed and forced to move out of their land. Buy the CD to stop this, and feel like you're making a difference. Don't buy the CD and claim about how we're "spitting on Lennon's grave with this." NO, what we're actually doing is something to help these people. Now shut up about these terrible covers, and start learning more about what is going on in Darfur.

- insult

I think John Lennon is a great artist who preformed many beautiful songs but this album is an insult to john lennon's musical ability and for what he stood for. Don't get me wrong it's for a great cause but never should the likes of a bad band like green day dare replicate a john lennon master piece, never.

- Simply Amazing

All great bands, and all great songs from one of the best songwriters of the 20th century. There is not a reason why you should not pick this CD up.

- GREAT NOBLE CAUSE

This is something that needs to stop and i'm glad that these artists along with iTunes have put this together to help save Darfur. Not only is it a great cause it's also a great album and a clever idea with all of the John Lennon covers!!

- LOOK!!

im suprised nobody talked about jacks mannequin doing God. Its very good! they are one of my favorite bands and usually they are mentioned in the reviews of an album like this. Also, deff listen to Regina Spector she is awesome. I didnt really like Avril Levine doing Imagine, but Jack Johnsons version is good. Green Days Working Class Hero is AWESOME. This is coming from a kid who hasnt bought one of their albums since Dookie....but they do honor to the great John Lennon.

- Finally!

I'm so glad people are starting to help the people in Darfur. This album also has some really good artists too.

- good cause, bad covers

I agree with alot of people that Lennon's music is untoutchable, but a couple of songs are okay and it might be more worth it to just buy the individual ones that are good than the whole thing. I really admire the charity work that all these artists are doing, though; but if you really want to help out you can donate money to amnesty international and that way you'll be giving it straight to the people that are helping out instead of a few bucks to them and a few to itunes....

- What a collection!

I am not a fan of these tribute albums, but this one is amazing. Have a listen to the Ben Harper, Jack Johnson and Lenny Kravitz. It will change how you view tribute albums.

- For A Great Cause

I love these songs, I really think they send a lot of powerful messages. I am glad that the money is going to the, Save Darfur campaign. They need all the help that they can get.

- Lacks Emotion

I was excited to see Lennon's songs covered by such a diverse group of musicians, but after downloading and listening was disappointed with the cover attempts. There are some great standouts, to be sure. Green Day's "Working Class Hero" and Regina Spektor's "Real Love" are among the best. But "Gimme Some Truth" is a pale effort compared to John's original emotion-charged version. Sorry, but John's classics still stand alone.

- Great Cause, Bad Music

U2, REM, Snow Patrol, Flaming Lips and Green Day do a decent job. But some of these covers are just plain crap. It is a good cause, I wish I had just made a donation to Amnesty International instead. If you don't know whats going on in Darfur, take the time to look it up. It is not a Civil War, It's Genocide. Where's the UN?

- a mixed bag but deserving

Good things and bad. Good: U2 and Instant Karma, Green Day and Working Class Hero, #9 Dream and REM, money goes to Darfur. Bad thing: Avril singing Imagine. Jack Johnson's isn't great, but its at least good. Avril ruined a great song.

- Great Album

although I'm not familiar with many of Lennons versions of these songs I saw the album and couldn't pass it up. The music is great (my personal favorite being the Aerosmith & Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars "Give Peace a chance") and the cause even greater!

- Amazing.

This is a great album and for a great cause. There is a song I know of that's not on this album where the artist donates 10% of the proceeds to Save Darfur. Check out "The Sky Is Fallin' " by Mr. Ozwald.

- Great idea, great cause...

Lots of good versions on here. As for the review on Avril L.'s "Imagine," too harsh (the review, I mean). She didn't do it in the style Lennon did, but that was the point. Her version sounds fine. And if not that, there's the Jack Johnson one which is also good. Either way, I'd buy songs from this album it had been recorded by wet cats playing cigar-box guitars -- the people of Darfur are in major trouble. Any help they get is valuable help. You should be thanking Avril and the other artists, not criticizing them... elsewhere maybe, but not here.

- Alright

finally! the problem in Sudan needs to be recognized! This record did its job! GREAT cause and great songs too! :)

- great cause, great music

i absolutely love the idea of this album. the songs are great in my opinion, and i loved the fact that a lot of my favorite artists sing them. now, please dont kill me for saying this, but i liked avril lavigne's remake, it was quite beautiful in my opinion. of course, it is far, far behind the lines of the original, im just saying i enjoyed it. and it is kinda rude how some people are saying shes not "worthy" enough to sing it. we all know what an amazing musician john lennon was, but still, that is pretty mean. other favs on this is instant karma- U2 isolation- snow patrol grow old with me- the postal service god- jack's mannequin and mick fleetwood also, can you ask for a better price than this?

- JACK'S MANNEQUIN

If you haven't heard the "God" cover by Jack's Mannequin (with Mick Fleetwood) then you really need to. I'm so glad to see Jack's Mannequin on this compilation - Andrew McMahon is an absolutely fantastic artist. Such a worthy cause too.

- Saving Darfur...With Lots of Stars

Great CD. My Teacher, Mrs. Gates, taught us about what was going on in Darfur and it is heartbreaking. This is just like the Holocaust over again. We need to save the people from Darfur and this is a good way. It is a great CD with Good Songs and Good Singers. My Favorites: Instant Karma - U2 Mother - Christina Aguilera Give Peace A Chance - Aerosmith Imagine - Avril Lavigne Working Class Hero - Green Day Power To The People - Black Eyed Peas Imagine - Jack Johnson and Isolation - Snow Patrol

- A beautiful Album, Period.

An excellent compilation of John Lennon songs that I personally found incredible. Imagine by Avril Lavine is a great piece as are all the songs on this album.I highly recommend this album to anyone. Save Darfur.

- Bland

Why don't they just release the originals and give some to charity? I would buy those in a second. Having bands and entertainers that are "popular" now cover them even though they do not have the passion and soul to give the songs what they deserve is disappointing. Give us the Beatles!!!!

- seriously

ok whoever said that we need to help the poor of america is very wrong. think about it please. the poor in america have it much better than those in darfur and other poverty stricken areas of the world. i would like for you to think about others and if you really do think that we need to help the poor in america first, what are you doing to help? nothing im sure.

- ---

this is amazing.

- Some Songs Are Classics...

not to be messed with. And boy did Avril destroy Imagine. Avril what were you thinking...you should have passed on that song.

- and they said the cd is dead......

though not a tru cd this compilation of artists makes for a great album, plus buy its like carbon credits for the soul. U2 rules like always. powerful, not like bush wants america to be, but more in the awe inspiring comradre that could have been. damn hippie music is good

- Hopefully they are donatinating their time and money

I am buying the CD with the hope that I can help. I hope none of the money is going to the singers or the record company. Hopefully, they are doing this to help, they have enough money as it is. Great CD, by the way, Cristina really nailed this one, and Jack Johnson 's "Imagine" was wonderful.

- Classics for This Generation

okay so i'm writing this from my dad's account but w/e. THIS IS A WONDERFUL ALBUM! these classic songs that i probably wouldn't have liked were covered wonderfully for the new generation. i've read so much about darfur i've even done research and this money from this CD will really help those people. Avril did a fine job on 'Imagine', it sounds great. just to put my opinion on that. people are rite, darfur is not a civil rights issue it's a genocide that's been going on forever. Seen "Hotel Rwanda"? see it. it shows u what it's like. This is coming from a teenage girl who actually cares about what's happening around the world, that should mean something being that parents & other adults think we as teens dont give a flying f**k. buy this cd to help make the world a better place!

- Save Darfur

I have to say, I was very skeptical at first, not being much of a Lennon fan. However, all the bands did such a great job covering his songs that it's hard to not like them. This album goes to a great cause and brings so much needed attention to a worthy cause. If you have 11.99 to spare please put it forward to help resolve the situation in Darfur. It is a great tribute to Lennon and a wonderful charity

- Wow.

So i heard the first green day working class hero song. i thought that it was kind of... AMAZING!!! so then i was reading entertainment weekly, and they said that the whole CD came out and that their favorite song was the regina spektor "real love". i am absolutely obsessed with regina, so immediatly i got on itunes and listend 2 it. (and LOVED it by the way). and loved the rest. buy it. you wont regret it.

- Garbage Pop remixes

Im disgusted that the worst musicians in the history of music would make an attempt on redoing the music of one of the greatest singer song writers of all time. I appreciate the cause and it needs to be recognized by the majority of pathetic humans in the united states, and i guess if this is the only way to do it than it has to be done... i will say though that the flaming lips and regina spektor did actually do the original songs justice, but Green Day and avril lavigne should be embarassed at the result of their songs.

- Dull but Important!!!

It has the best intentions, but god this is bad.

- good album, except of course the black eyed peas song

this album is really good, john lennon is smiling in his grave, but that black eyed pee song is a bad version of a good song, they made a song that motivated people to make a revolution into a so-so comercial crap. The flaming lips version of just like starting over is really good.

- Ummm Ok something is missing...Oh I know....

Madonna's Cover os "Imagine"...and that "Give Peace a Chance" by Aerosmith sounds lke a scremaing match! Ok album, some good covers, others sound like noise! So sad no Madonna's "Imagine" cover!!

- one of the best albums of 2007

this album combines old lyrics and style with a new modern flair with some of the most successful and talented musicians of this generation, like U2, jack Johnson, Regina Spektor, Corinne Bailey Rae, Avril Lavigne, R.E.M, and many many more. Also, all of the profits go to relief in Darfur. It's great music for a good cause. This album=EUPHORIA!

- Long Live John Lennon!

So Demented! So Sick! So Awesome!!!!! Those artists like U2 and Lenny Kravitz are so brilliant, and they bring J. Lennon's songs into today's era. It's as if those artists has risen John Lennon from his death. I am so glad this album is campaigning to stop violence in Darfur. It's just breaking my heart every time I hear bad things about Darfur. Please, please start spreading love around the world conditionally and unconditionally. Love is the key to the future.

- Not Bad

Some of theses covers are really good the best are probley U2, REM, Green Day, and Jack Johnson But the worst is probley Avril Lavinge (get Jack Johnson instead) She took on an extermly well know song and did an awful cover

- Peace Please

Lets just say it, who cares if one artist didn't sing so well! I think they all did a great job, and if you don't think they did, they did it for a cause. This cd is telling us that we need to be more aware of our world. I'm happy that the artists did this, and I thought that Avril Lavigne sang imagine beautifuly.

- Theoretically John's songs should never be covered...

But this album is kind of amazing. Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Green Day and (believe it or not) Black Eyed Peas bring something fresh to John's songs. Listening to this album got me all teary-eyed. John's legacy continues. Thanks to the artists and Yoko for making this happen.
