The Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel Song Info
Originally titled The Sounds of Silence, "The Sound of Silence" is a song performed by American folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. Paul Simon originally wrote the song over the span of a couple months from '63 to '64, eventually recording it along with Art Garfunkel for their 1964 debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. The album was a commercial flop and the duo split temporarily. The song, however, began to grow in popularity after regular radio airplay in Boston and Florida in early '65. Tom Wilson, the song's producer, remixed the track and re-released it in September 1965 as a single. The song went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the first week of '66, topping The Beatles' "We Can Work It Out" and the duo reunited for another studio album. Their 2nd album featured the remixed version and was titled "The Sounds of Silence" to capitalize on the song's popularity. The song later appeared in the 1967 film The Graduate along with a few other Simon & Garfunkel tracks.
