Trying to squeeze the very last drop of blood out of these songs...as much as I love her music, I refuse to purchase a repackage. How about, hmmmm...an album of new material. Now wouldn't that be a creative idea? She's far too young to be spitting out "Greatest Hits" packages. I'm done now. :)
Like Celine Dion, Sarah McLachlan is an amazing artist with an equally amazing voice that with its sweet and smooth tone its no wonder she's had so many hits which is why I simply love this album.
I'm incredibly dissapointed that Sarah agreed to this marketing ploy. Wow. First I was dissapointed to hear that the new music I waited many years for was a compilation of old stuff. I accepted this and then eagerly awaited the new songs only to discover I'd have to buy the songs I have already own again. It's her right not to put out new music but she is selling out her fans that supported her. Wow Sarah, what has happened. If you want to retire from music or take a haitus that's fine but don't sell us out!
I have always considered Sarah McLachlan to be my favorite musician. Her music helped me through some of the hardest moments of my life- she always knew how to express strong emotions perfectly, and could make a powerful connection with her audience that way. But now, the only new music she presents us with makes me want to close the door on her and live in the past, when her music meant something real. Just the title of 'U want me 2' made me shiver with dread. It sounds like a tween's text message to her boyfriend, and the sound isn't much better. Sarah sounds like she is scraping the bottom of her inspiration barrel and coming up with splinters. Not good, not good at all. She sounds like a Sara trying to be Sarah McLachlan. And I am not happy to know that the next album is her last of all-original material. I guess it's time to say good-bye to an artist who has reached the end, and sounds like it.
The two new tracks are the only things worth getting if you already have the other albums. But the 2 new songs alone are so good they make up this entire album. "Don't Give Up On Us" sounds like classic sarah while "U Want Me 2" is more 'pop-ish' They are both beautiful, and its seems like anything Sarah releases is perfect.
This is an amazing collection of songs, and so what if she hasn't put out a studio album in years? The creative process takes time and if you are a true Sarah McLachlan fan you will wait, not like the many fair weather Sarah fans who are leaving their ungreatful comments on here. I think this is a wonderful album with great songs spanning across all of her career, what more could a true Sarah McLachlan fan want in a Greatest Hits album? She will put out a studio album soon enough and we all know it will be amazing & worth the wait. Thank you Sarah!
...but if you already have all of her albums, then then only thing you really need to do is spend the $2 for the 2 new singles. While I'm not against anyone from putting out a greatest hits album, I have to give props to Sarah & iTunes for not putting the new singles as "Album Only", because to pay $16.99 for them would really be ridiculous. For the newbies coming into Sarah's world (so to speak), what you have here are some really great songs from Sarah's catalog. However, while this is a great album to start with if you don't have any of her CD's and rarely ever listened to her, I really recommend following it up with the Rarities vol 1 & 2, and then with the album of your choice (if you liked the earlier stuff, that would be Touch, Fumbling, etc. Or maybe Surfacing, which is really the high point of her catalog, imo). Also good to get (if you like remixes) are her remix albums Remixed and Bloom. So, to reiterate, Closer is great for someone who doesn't have any of Sarah's previous work & rarely ever listened to her in the past. For all of us die-hard fans, just pay the $2 for the 2 singles (don't even bother wasting on the radio mix of "U Want Me 2"). And be thankful that iTunes doesn't have them as "Album Only."
I am really disappointed. Really? Again? Please!! I love her voice and her songs but I already own all her music. Two new songs... how long are these supposed to last? Please make a whole new album or don't, but please not another release of the same songs! What a let down!
I think this album is fantastic, true fans will value having all the songs combined with the delux disc without having to pick and choose, and everyday fans get a great taste of her music with the regular album. I would recommend the delux if you know her older albums or songs. Sarah does it yet again with her two new songs on the disc.
for any Sarah McLachlan lover. Plus two new songs: U Want Me 2 and Don't Give Up On Us....awesome!
This is the perfect collection of Sarah McLachlan...
She used to be my favorite artist. I listened to her all the time. I think it's about time she released a new album, not just put out a best of. It's frustrating when artists take near a decade to release new material. I realize her studio is probably behind this release but it's still frustrating.
Are there really any words that can describe the beauty of Sarah McLachlan's music? Sit back, relax and let the music wash over you like a warm blanket. You may find that there is a song here that expresses just what you have been thinking.
I will never understand the minimal ratings that some people on here are giving this album. Yes, it features old songs, and yes, it's lengthy; HOWEVER, this is a best of collection, and for those of you who don't want all the old tracks, there is a single disc version as well. Featuring all of Sarah's singles, a feat which some greatest hits lack significantly, the album flows through from her first singles making her successful in Cananda through to the ever famous hits of the late 90s and early 2000s. I own Sarah's discography, and this makes it a little easier to cart around her music without needing to create my own discs or cramming multiple albums into one case when going on a road trip. Full of exceptional tracks and her greatest hits, this album will not disappoint the dedicated fans. Take a look at her career, studio albums, two live releases, and numerous remix/rarities & b-sides compilations, it's due time that we received a comprehensive singles collection. For those who really only ever enjoyed Sarah's commercial successes, I suggest you take a look at the single disc 14-track release which spans the majority of her highest chart successes. You will be much more thrilled with that release than finding yourself burdened by tracks you have no interest in knowing. As for everyone else, take a chance with this album, you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised.
Haunting. Beautiful. Shivers. Unforgettable. Echoing. Sarah McLachlan.
The choices here should have been narrowed down to one disc. Two discs at the hefty price of $16.99 is just gratuitous. Sarah's inspiration has been lost since her heyday in the 90's. Her latest single, and the singles released from her last studio album in 2003, "Afterglow," are pale attempts to recycle the tired Lillith Fair soft-chick rock formula that revolutioned the world of female musicianship 10+ years ago. Now what we're left with are vanilla mood pieces that don't sound as poignant as they once did, but rather, soporific. And aside from the "Surfacing" singles, most of these haven't aged well. Sarah has a wonderful voice and is an excellent pianist, but her songwriting abilities are limited and after her breakthrough in 1998 she's never managed to expand on her sound in any way, shape, or form. Most listeners will grow weary of this before getting to the second disc so I wouldn't recommend this collection to the casual fan, and I'd even encourage the hardcore fan to avoid this and buy her first few studio albums instead.
All I have to say is "Thank you i-Tunes for not making the new tracks 'album only'". Nuff said.
Sarah McLachlan's voice is like wine the older she gets the more refined her voice is. I've been waiting for her to release a Greatest Hits studio album I have her live albums but had been waiting for this. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I will. And I hope Sarah graces us with more new music soon.
I liked U want me 2, but Don't Give Up On Us is RIGHT up my alley. Great song great sound, the best since surfacing I believe. Can't wait to hear the next album! (but I can't bring myself to pay for all these songs I have on 2 live albums, the itunes original version, the original and some singles and 2 copies of remixes!)
I remember in the late 80's when I got serviced with a 12" dance single of Sarah McLachlan's "Into The Fire". I fell instantly in love with it. It was such a funky cool dance track. This was light years away from when she'd become famous. But then some years later I finally heard the album version and I was even more blown away. Not knowing the 12" Single had striped all the guitar and strings from the track, I fell in love all over again. This is a track that never got much attention because she was a very young and new import. But the track is just as strong today. The label should re-release it to a mass radio public. It would eat up the charts. Click yes if you agree.
Sarah will always reign supreme! Thank you for the two new songs! We are all hoping that you are able to move past your personal tragedy and start the healing process. First!!!
All the best songs. Can't wait until the day Sarah makes a whole new albumn. Until then, this will be played over and over.
