This CD is incredible. If you don't have it, get it...NOW! It made my life. The Sufjan Stevens song is beyond incredible. So many good artists, and at a very reasonable price. Such a good deal. Will change your life.
Used to be you had to be able to carry a tune to be a singer. This unwashed collection of awful just lowers the bar even further on "alternative music". Who told these people they had any musical talent whatsoever? Save your money and listen to a fork stuck in the garage disposal for a similar experience.
probably one of the best compilations i've ever come across. i've been waiting with bated breath since i heard of its existence. support a good cause with great music.
Profits of this double CD go to the Red Hot Organization which is an HIV/AIDS awareness charity. But if that's not your thing, buy the entire CD for the amazing Sufjan Stevens' song (preview doesn't do it justice) along with all the other great artists.
This is a terrific album - some of my favorite artists performing some great tunes for a great cause. However, I am not buying it on Itunes because I am sick and tired of the "album only" restriction and the DRM protected files. Get with it, Itunes - if I buy the song I should own it, and am going to start purchasing my music elsewhere.
It's about time (believe me when I saw a track titled Blood Pt. 2, I almost flipped) and for such a worthy cause. I can't stress how deliciously different this 2 cd project/collaboration is. Some of the finest indie artists doing what music lovers love most; Incredible song presentations. This is a treasure to be sure. Thanks to David Byrne, those eclectic brothers from The National, and the Red Hot Organization, we finally have the perfect desert island disc(s). For those who love Pink Floyd and soundscaping material, this will be a soundtrack for your life. Many things to come from these folks, that's for sure. Standout tracks are: Train Song, Deep Blue Sea, Tightrope, Feeling Good, Service Bell and the immaculately conceived, You Are The Blood, sure to be a classic composition for years to come. Check this one out. Better yet, just buy it. Vil Towers
While for a good cause, don't expect to be blown away by this compilation. I expected the select tracks from such great bands to really shine, even more so when reading the liner notes. Needless to say I was disappointed for the most part when it turned out the majority of the tracks in this collection rank up there with a bunch of unreleased B-sides that couldn't even make the cut on a special edition album put out by the original band. A couple tracks stand out from the rest and worth a listen and since it is for a good cause I won't tell you which ones, splurge and buy the full album and feel better knowing you contributed to a good cause.
Is it available on the full purchase of the album? I-tunes keeps saying unavailable. HELP!!!
this is the most amazing compilation of musicians ever. it's truly amazing, and the fact that the money goes to help fight HIV/AIDS is even more. BUY THIS!! it' something you can't pass up
great stuff. instant classic release
Wow, all I can say is just...Wow. Cello Song re-imagined by The Books and Jose Gonzalez? Sufjan Stevens remixed by Buck 65? This is an indie rock wet dream. Yes it's cheaper on Amazon, I'd probably buy it there if I were you, but either way it's worth the 16 bucks they want for it here. Of course you don't get the fancy digital booklet on Amazon.
There are three things preventing me from buying this compilation at iTunes: 1. The price is too high (You can buy the physical CD at Amazon for $11.99 or the MP3 album at Amazon MP3 for $9.99), 2. The iTunes version is copy protected; this is abominable since iTunes is going 100% DRM free and 3. Why does iTunes have the track "Play the Game" by Beach House and no one else does? C'mon Apple, I would be willing to pay the extra money because it's for a good cause, but drop the DRM! Things like these really irritate me.
I just want Sufjan's track.
So much shoe-gazing you'lll get a nosebleed. So indie you'll never go to Starbucks again. It's like a KEXP playlist, minus that nasally daytime guy. And, yeah, it's much cheaper (9.99 for MP3s, 11.99 for the physical CD) & DRM-free on Amazon.
let me start this off by saying that i had been waiting anxiously for this album. i got it last night soon as it came out and was a little disappointed. there are definitely some real gems on here (the most notable being sufjan stevens' cover of "you are the blood") but there's also a whole bunch of songs that don't really stand out in any way. i'd say go ahead and get the album since it's for a good cause, but don't expect the greatest compilation ever. (also, buy the album at best buy or on amazon. it's cheaper)
The greatest thing I've heard this year. A must buy.
There really isn't a better deal. Two albums for the price for one (if you get it from Amazon, not sure why it's more on iTunes). It's for a good cause and it's stuffed full of fantastic artists. If you don't know a whole lot of indie musicians....this is a great place to start.
Every one should but this album or at least some songs because not only is this an amazing collaboration between some of the best artist of this time, it also gives towards AIDS.
Oh, so many of my favorites. Together. Hello?! Thirty-two freaking awesome songs. One of my favorite Bright Eyes songs done beautifully. For a good cause. The insanity of it all is causing me to type in incomplete sentences. Seriously. Buy it; it's worth it.
It's not often that I like every single song on a compilation album, but this album is an exception. To name a few favorites: You Are the Blood (the song is mindblowing), Train Song, Feeling Good, Sleepless... really the list could go on. If for nothing else, the proceeds are donated to the Red Hot Organization for AIDS awareness and support.
First of all, let me say that I bought a hard copy of this album and it is superb. However I am disappointed by how it is being offered on iTunes. The iTunes version has one track that is not on any other version of the album: "Play the Game" by Beach House. I would love to buy this track, however it's only offered up here as an 'album only' track, and even then it's a lower quality DRM-locked file. I like Beach House, but not enough to pay $15 just to get a hold of a single track that I wouldn't even end up being able to keep forever! I hope to see this remedied, but I sincerely doubt that it will be.
buy this album, and listen to big red machine 20 times in a row. that's all i have to say.
There are many reasons to buy this record...It has at least a few artists that u already know and love, the proceeds all benefit the fight against AIDS...but, above all else, it's just a great collection. And, most, if not all of the tracks are stellar. So go for it. Buy it. You will def find some new favs.
glad i noticed the DRM on this album. now buying the physical CD, as i refuse to be tied down by digital rights management.
Nice little mix goin' on here. Some of my favorites (i.e. The Decemberists, Ben Gibbard, Arcade Fire ect.). I'm really disappointed in the un-buyable-ness of Sufjan's "You Are the Blood" Am I the only one?
Benefits an organization that teaches HIV/AIDS awareness. Incredible compilation.
But not only do you get that fantastic song but 2 albums' worth of equally intriguing, excellent music. This record is a MUST HAVE and benefits a great cause to boot. WIN WIN WIN.
