- Bravo Harry!!!

This album is great because Connick realizes that these classic songs can stand on their own with just his voice and the melodies we all know and love. He didn't fall into the trap of trying to find some arrangement just to simply make the songs different when these songs don't need to be different in the hands of an artist like him. Bravo for tradition and realizing going simple can be a risk worth taking when it works. And this works.

- Not just a cookie cutter album

I like that this is a little different. Romantic slow songs to relax to, enjoy a romantic evening, or even slow dance to. I prefer this to some of his other albums which tend to sound the same.

- Superb!!

Great album. He has really brought his own style of arrangements which I've seen (or heard) mature every album he makes. I don't think people realize that you don't have to make an album that sounds like every other cover album. Be yourself Harry. Can't wait to see you in concert. BTW, please don't compare him to Buble. He's a singer not a singer, song writer, musician, composer, producer, etc. He doesn't write the notes and arrangements for all the orchestra or band. I like listening to Buble, but I'll take HCjr anyday.

- Awsome!!!!!!

Awsome! Awsome!!! Awsome!!!!! Love Every Single Song!!!!

- Boring

i really like his older stuff. what happened to that spark. this is so ho-hum. in light of all the Indie talent out there he needs to step it up but not too far off the track as that one release where he tried the funk. yuk.

- Why Harry?

What's happened to Harry?? I'm a huge fan but this is just crap! I was eagerly anticipating this cd until I previewed the songs here on iTunes. Don't waste your time or your money. Bring back the old Harry that I love so much!!

- Extra cheesy

Imagine Harry wearing a leopard print dinner jacket snapping his fingers crooning in a smoky seedy Vegas club...

- Not sure why others are rating this so low

I love this CD and have listened to it about 5 times in the last several days already -- it's a great recording of cover pop songs as well as a smattering of Broadway standards. Overall, this is a lush, romantic, straight-forward sampling of standards. Those looking for the "jazzy" Connick aren't going to find it here -- but it wasn't set forth as a jazz album -- it's adult easy listening. And I love it.

- good but not jazzy like we know

I love Harry Connick, still sounds smooth on this album, but.... that being said... where is the jazz crooner with the horn section that we all came to love? Some of the these songs sound like a lounge act on a cruise ship.? they are ok. he does a nice job, no zip, 2 stars for those. The 3 songs that stand out for me are "Smile" "The Way You Look Tonight".and "All the Way" NOW THOSE songs have that 5 star Connick jazz twist. which is why I gave the album as a whole 3 stars for a nice effort

- Some of my favorite songs...

sung by one of my favorit guys! I really enjoyed many of these tracks--"Your Song", "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" and "Some Enchanted Evening" are all songs I've known all my life. Having them sung by Harry? Make them even better and more dear to my heart!

- Muzak

Oh, Harry, my love - where is the fun New Orleans sound you do so well? I can't give you lower than three stars because your voice (and face) are lovely, but the arrangements on this are BORING. Where's all the fun you put into Songs I Heard? Those were classics like these, but you made them full of Harry fun! This, my main man, is elevator muzak, and I don't love it. I miss you Harry. Although, I do love the Target commercial for this new album. It warms my heart to see you on my TV screen :)

- So disappointed! Get back in the studio Harry and make us forget this.

I'm one more person in the disappointed group. This is unbelievable. I was so excited to hear these songs were being done by Harry, expecting to hear a "When Harry Met Sally"-like compilation, but instead...it's elevator music! - or perhaps a cheezy lounge singer's arrangement. Has Harry aged beyond his years? I had Lawrence Welk images in my head as well. With the exception of, 'All the Way' and 'The Way You Look Tonight' this is a HUGE disappointment. Harry I agree with the others - we expect better from you. I've seen you live twice, and love much of your previous work, but this... this is just dull and uninspired. You better bring it next time because we know you can.

- Dear Harry

Yeah, I reluctantly agree with the other negative reviews. But here's the thing. Your musical intuitions are pretty impeccable, but it's always touch and go when someone shifts gears. With this album, consider Sam Cooke's experience right before the Copa album. He tried out his "new live show" in the Catskills, with these kinds of song (of his day): Girl From Ipanema and other smooth tunes. People nodded off and walked out on him. After a short time of blaming, he refocused and reconnected to his strong suit. I say, you're Sam Cooke in the Catskills here. No shame, no blame, but please reconnect to your strong suit that energizes your diehard fans, or better, that energizes you. All the best.

- Meet you in the Otis...!

What is going on with fantasticly creative and high quality artists such as Harry Connick Jr. and James Taylor? We are both their fans (and still will continue to be), but their latest CD's both have the same problem: they are WAY below their established realms. Stop slumming, guys! You don't need to make a bad cover of a bad (or at the most: mediocre) song of it's era. We were sick of their overplay when they first came out...! If you're have trouble getting 'the old muse' going, why not use some new material from a struggling but talented writer? Pay it forward, guys: it's a recession! Respectfully looking forward to your return from the 'Twilight Zone'.

- Harry's Senior Flop.

Simply put...this is the first H.C.jr. CD I will not be purchasing. Lame arrangements, nothing exciting, elevator music for elevators in retirement homes.

- Yawn

Harry- You are soo much better than this..guess I will have to wait for the next one.

- Harry, Where Art Thou?

I sat down, listened twice, in a row. Put it down, and came back the next day. My feelings didn't change. Harry's voice is and always will be timeless, but what has always made him so unique is that he has always been able to blend his own personal touches into standards. I know that he took a different approach to this cd with Clive Owen, and I appreciate the artistic vision. However, I kind of miss the old Harry. I missed the passion and personal touch that makes his music so special. I feel like I got glimpses of it on #2 (Just The Way You Are), and #11 (And I Love You So), but I felt like he held back a lot. The CD is produced EXTREMELY EXTREMELY well ;o), and it's a great rendition of standards, but I was hoping for more of that Harry charm.

- Why it sounds different

This album sounds different because it was produced VERY differently from HCJ's other albums. In "Your Songs," Harry collaborated with Clive Davis - who did the arrangements and produced the album. On all Harry's other projects, Harry did those two things. So if it sounds different, that's why. I'm a HUGE Connick fan and I was hoping for more. This album is pretty boring.

- I Love This

I have read some of these reviews and I must say that I completely disagree. What a wonderful album. His version of "Smile" is great and I am also loving "And I love Her." Great job!!

- Elevator Music

I love this guy, but this is just Elevator Music!

- Harry is AMAZING

I love Harry Connick Jr. I'm not a musician, but appreciate how he makes his music and craft appear effortless. Of course, true Harry fans know he does this through hard work, dedication, and a discipline unmatched by nearly any other musician in history. The crap that is played on the radio that passes as "music" these days is just plain rubbish. Harry can do no wrong. This album is great. Even assuming, arguendo, it wasn't his best work EVER in history, it is way better than most musicians on their BEST game. I love Harry and will purchase anything and everything he is ever in, on, or about. I missed seeing him in The Pajama Game, and I will ALWAYS regret it. I've seen Harry in concert about 15 times. Each concert is a completely new musical journey, always with a very humble Harry, appreciative that people spend their hard-earned money to come see him in concert. I can't imagine a true Harry fan writing anything less than a stellar review about his work. I know I've used a lot of adjectives, but he deserves it. Not that this really matters, but he also keeps his nose clean, out of the tabloids, etc., and seems to be a very dedicated family man.

- Go back to acting

It's good but not my style I'd rarer see another movie

- Old fashioned and cheesy, not the Harry we know.

I have to admit that this review is just based on me previewing every single track here in iTunes. I previewed all and found nothing I liked. In fact, I hated almost every one of them. The arrangements, song choices and renditions are all old fashioned and cheesy. Big disappointment for his fans! It's not the Harry we've loved and appreciated all these years (and still listen to at that). I didn't bother buying any of the tracks. Maybe HCJ is aiming for a different market here, a market different from his established base, and so lost the likes of me, a long time fan. Not worth purchasing.

- LOVE IT!!!

I have been a fan for a long time, during which i have always wanted to be able to listen to Harry sing some of my favorite songs. I got my wish-hearing his voice caress these songs is amazing!! I love his other stuff just as much but this is something to just sit back and enjoy!

- What's the problem with this!

I have every single Harry Connick release. I sense a different approach this time, but I'm excited about it. Have you even heard 'All the Way' or 'Mona Lisa? They're fantastic. It reminds me of the 'When Harry Met Sally' Soundtrack. I think it's totally Harry. I admit that we fans are used to his originals, jazz records, and fantasitc Christmas records. But this seems in line with other releases like 'Harry on Broadway". I like it alot. Keep on going Harry!!!!

- Where is Harry Connick Jr

I love his music, but this is terrible. He is such a talented musician. This is below par.

- Respectful but Sad

I guess we should've fully expected the disappointment looking at the Time length for the tracks. There's no way HCJr. could sing/play an album almost entirely made up of 3-minute songs (diddies) and still deliver the soul we've all come to love, expect and maybe take for granted, right? I always think back to his live performance with the Marsalis family, and it makes me wonder that when someone as great as HCJr. is pushed into a sound room with a mic, instead of being allowed to flourish and marinate around other greats, of course this is what gets produced. Well the bright side of this album is that it'll make it that much easier for the next album to sell through the roof if all he does is name it "I'm Back". And at least his hair is still up to the task :) I am the last person to ever be harsh to a true musician's work, especially one as qualified, as flavourful as HCJr.; not to mention he's one of my favorite piano players/singers ever. So I sincerely hesitate to hit "Submit" for this review but, it is impossible to ignore the weakness of this album. A truly inspired mix of covers - unfortunately the performances (vocals and orchestra) seem to be missing exactly that - inspiration.

- Old Standards back again

I love Harry Connick, Jr! He is such an accomplished artist and a wonderful musician. His voice sounds so good on these old standards. Some critics are knocking htis album saying words like slow, no jazz, etc. BUT...these are old standards. It's a different from the Jazz that Harry usually does...and it's just gorgeous! LOVE IT!

- Disappointed, too

No spark at all in these. C'mon, Harry!

- BRILLIANT!!!

LOVE EVERY SONG!!! AND, NOT BAD TO LOOK AT EITHER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK HARRY!!! LOVED HEARING YOU LIVE ON "OPRAH".

- this is just....

bad. does he think it's still the 20's?

- Not bad but not good

At least it's not scary like Star Turtle.

- Looks like it's the end for Harry

Artists typically only put out albums like this when they know their best years are behind them and they need some money. So they put out a standards album where they sound the same on every single song. Harry sounds like he needs to take a pep pill on most of these songs. It reminds me of an old SNL skit where someone imitated Perry Como's "laid-back" style by singing while lying down on stage. Harry sounds like he's doing that on most of these songs. He's had a good career but it looks like it's over for HCJ.

- MOR?????????????

A term was applied in the 70's to such bands as the Carpenters, Barry Manilow, and the like, as middle of the road. Music, that was so bland, and lacked creativity. Dare I say Harry has succumbed to this distinction? Apparently this album has achieved that dubious title. The way the music was arranged, it's as though Harry walked into the studio, and sang along with a pre-recorded orchestra. Its amazing how many songs were murdered. Even the Carpenters displayed more passion on Close to you. Thats another gripe. Where's the passion?

- Harry is the Man but....

I have been a fan of Harry's for almost 20 yrs now, way before he was popular. He generally can do no wrong but this album is lacking in it's "Harryness", for lack of a better term. His voice is fabulous but the music is missing the groove and verve that is Harry's signature. I am so disappointed as I couldn't wait for the release of this album. Where, oh where, has our Harry Connick Jr. gone? Still love you Harry!

- I'd like to start the line for an excellent performance !!!

Harry - you did the right thing by singing 'Smile' on your new release - it's exactly what you brought to me. Excellent Job !!! stay well - look forward to more...

- Classic Standards

I think a lot of those that gave this CD a negative review missed the point of the classic standards. Harry brings back the elegance and class of the standard that is being lost on fellow generation X'rs. Take it for what it is. A return to some classic pieces with the velvet voice of HC Jr.

- Pretty Nice

Not his best but not bad

- Great Album

He is great and will always be great!

- Connick has a 6 note range

This is just about as schlocky as his other albums. Went to see him in concert and expected something fairly decent.... I just about walked out. He has an OK voice but that's kind of the description of OK Chinese food - not too good and not too bad. I expected something much better - not even close to the mark!

- Help!!

I have every album HC has released...so you could say I am a fan. Saw him 4 times in concert over the years but this piece of crap will not get near my Ipod. When I heard he was working with the legendary Clive Davis I thought we were going to hear some magic...instead we got a cheap lounge act! That is something HC has never been to me. It's a sad day for this HC fan.

- I luv it! Harry rocks!

This is great. I love it!

- No no no....

I expected so much more. It sounds like Harry just "showed up" for this and knocked it out in a hurry. No magic, no thrill....pass on this.

- Don

I have loved Harry Connick Jr's music since he began recording. So much so that, like this album, I usually buy new albums without listening to samples or reading reviews. This album is terrible. Horrible song choices, no personal investment of emotion or energy, just collecting a pay check from loyal fans like me... well he just lost one.

- Harry's Biggest Fan

I am 33 and I have been in love with Harry Connick, Jr, the talent and the person since I was in 8th grade. I have every album of his and my adoration for him was even more solidified after Hurricane Katrina hit his birthplace and I watched while he walked through the flood waters, took the shirt off his back and offered it to stranded elderly man and then carried the man in his arms through the waters to safety. Your parents raised you well, Harry... Your Mother would be so proud. On his official website he explained that he has never done a collaboration before and prefers not to but was approached by the famous Clive Davis to do his own versions of some of modern musics biggest hits. I can see now why Harry prefers not to do collaborations. This album is not his best. Stick to your instincts, Harry. Do what you know and love. I will always be your biggest fan.

- Talk about phoning it in....

Im a fan too, but this feels souless.

- Some Albums are just for the artists that record them!

One of the TRULY great musicians of our time. The musicianship on this album is top notch. Harry always attracts the best talent for his albums. "Your Songs" lacks the creativity and unique sound of every other of Harry's albums. He was obviously going for a different market as most of these covers follow the original closely. "Smile" and "All the Way" jump out of the recording more than the rest to me. Every song has a similar arrangement style, and the strings dominate to suggest a hint of elevator music. Where's the piano sound, especially on tracks like 'Just the Way you Are'? Its a good album, but not very interesting...for people that like to hear popular covers done by their favorite artists.

- NOT... MY SONG

I was all set to buy this album... and then I clicked and listened to the samples of the tracks. I did not like one of them... and I love Harry Connick, Jr. and all of his previous work. This one puzzles me about how these songs are arranged... and even his singing. I would like to see this album re-recorded!

- Blame Clive Davis

Have been a Harry Connick fan since When Harry Met Sally and his first tour in the early 90s when I was lucky enough to be introduced to him. This is truly the first disappointing album to date but keep these two things in mind! 1) This is the FIRST time that Harry has EVER partnered with a producer (his other 24, yes 24, CDs have all been self-produced). That's why this is as bland-as-any-other karaoke big-band wanna-be's recording! All Harry has to do is ditch the producer for the next CD and he's back! 2) He has produced 24 CDs before this that were all GREAT in their own unique way which is an AMAZING record in this business!!! His three Christmas albums? Amazing! The funk albums? Fun and unique! Songs I Heard? Awesome family album! The classic swing sets? The best! The instrumental recordings? Wonderful! So although I'm giving it one star, don't lose the faith fans! 24-1 is an amazing record! And Harry will be back SWINGIN' with his next CD! I guarantee it!!

- What the heck Harry!!!!!!

Every now and then Harry does something that is a complete waste of time. This is one of those times. I've seen him in concert on the Blue Light tour. Big band explosion. Now he puts us to sleep. Come on Harry, you're not that old!!!!
