The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Stone Free

Stone Free by The Jimi Hendrix Experience Song Info

Stone Free is a song by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was the first song that Jimi Hendrix wrote after he arrived in England. It was recorded on November 2, 1966 and released first in December 1966 as the B-side of Hendrix's first single "Hey Joe". In December 1969 "Stone Free" was released as a single in the US, backed with "If 6 Was 9". The song is one of the few songs by Hendrix being in standard tuning. The bassline for the song was borrowed from the Mar-Keys song "Philly Dog". Some sources state this song as being one of the earliest forms of Heavy Metal music, because of it's over-driven guitar chords and solo, and the song's loudness. Supergrass recorded a cover of the song that was available on a limited-edition 7" vinyl companion disc to certain packagings of the 12" vinyl release of their debut album, I Should Coco. Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix was also the name of a 1993 Jimi Hendrix tribute album featuring his songs performed by various artists, including Eric Clapton, Living Colour, The Cure and Pretenders.

- THIS WAS GROUND BREAKING IN 1967 and STILL IS IN 2010

I can remember buying this in VINYL in 1967 and hearing my parents discuss wether or not to send me to a psychologist !!!! 43 years later and my carreer in music has allowed me to reitre earlier than most workers. only in music is your retirement is all based on how ya did at your craft Thanks to Guiarists like JIMI, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Buddy Guy and a load of others I did well and live a good life and I owe it to the albums of the late 60;s for it was then that I decided to be a guitarist. The re-mastering on this album is fantastice but what I found very intriging is listen to Chas Chandler,Jimi's manager, Mitch MItchell and old interviews with Noel it was great as a musician to find out how they made some of those sounds that today's guitar players everywhere are trying to emulate. To findout that an album that was as groudbreaking as this was finished in 10 days and most cuts FIRST TIME...... JEEEZ when I did my first lp in 78 it took 10 days to get 4 songs done out of which only 2 were even used, Bascially re-purchsing this CD was as GREAT and EXCITING as it was as a teenager, but this is much better, the BONUS FOOTAGE, and VIDEO BOOKLET make it a must buy along with the extra tracks. GO BACK TO YOUR BEST YEARS AND BUY THIS AND SIT BACK WITH A SETA OF HEADPHONES AND TURN IT UP AFTER THIS YOU WILL BE EXXPERIENCED !!! St.James

- Great

This album is, in my opinion, the best Jimi Hendrix Experience album they ever made. It's loaded with great songs and great guitar and is definently worth the buy if you like hard rock. My favorite songs are Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Manic Depression, Fire, and Red House

- Timeless

It's as if it was recorded yesterday.

- WOW!

This is soo soo soooo soooo AMAZING! I've never heard something so splendid. I got this cd from my best friend and I LOVE IT! Never has anyone ever recorded anything better than this. WOOO three cheers for Jimi!

- Artist

Brings back fond memories and is his single best Album . You rock on Jimi in a whole new world , and your poems and words should be listened to now more than ever, and of course your Guitar ! I want to thank my friend Bobby Ekizian for opening up my soul to Jimi Hendrix ! Peace

- One of the greatest albums of all time!

This is really great music, a lot better than today's stuff. I also reccomend his other two albums Electric Ladyland & Axis as Bold as Love (but this one is his best:)

- One of the Best of All Time

This classic album was the theme music of a multitude of people during it's initial release in the late 1960s. I was one of them and actually had it on 4 track (not 8 track but a 4 track player in my car). Hendrix was able to bring an edge to Rock and Roll and redefined an entire Genre of Music that still is admired by young and old alike today. Hendrix was the master of playing the guitar and all of the controls and feedbacks he could to produce a new kind of Wall-Of-Sound that defined him and led a new revolution in virtuoso guitar work. If you are familiar with Hendrix work, then you would know this was his best work, If you are not familiar with Jimi Hendrix and want to know what to buy from any era, this is it. He has other great songs on other albums, but this is truly a period piece that stands on it's own and defines an era in Music and Culture that will live on in our memories forever.

- Are You Experienced?

With an album like this, I don't even know where to start. The opening track, Purple Haze, is widely known as not only Hendrix's best song, but one of the most important songs in blues and rock music history. Every song on the album has something unique and amazing about it, and every time you listen, you find something you never knew was in the song. He took an older song, Hey Joe, and created his own, entirely different take on it, becoming a successful hit. In Are You Experienced?, Jimi Hendrix covered a number of different genres and musical aspects. The guitar work in songs like The Wind Cries Mary, Foxey Lady, and Red House show why he is the greatest guitarist of all time. With songs like Fire, Manic Depression, and Can You See Me, Hendrix set a path for future hard rock and metal artists. Although, when you look back on the late 60's, you think of the psychedelic rock, which is evident in songs like Love or Confustion, Third Stone From the Sun, and May This Be Love. Other songs like Highway Chile and Stone Free just show the outstanding songwriter that Jimi was and how he could make the listener never want the album to end. For any fan of Jimi's music, you know that this albums tops all of his others. If you are newer to his music and you are looking for his best work, this is it. Are You Experienced? is a masterpiece covering a number of genres, and is fitting as one of the greatest debut albums of all time, as well as one of the greatest albums of all time.

- The Beginning of King Jimi

Most rock fans and critics consider Jimi Hendrix to be the most important lead guitar figure in rock history. I am 15 and Jimi Hendrix is still a favorite among teens, decades later. This album is one of the reasons why. Not only it is one of the best debut albums in 20 and 21st century music, but it's built like a greastest hits album. Many of the group's best hits on this album. "Are You Experienced?" is a perfect example of a great work of art. The song reverses and clashes itself on all the right places. I listen to orchestral music to rap and I know a work of art when I hear it. The song makes you feel like your psychadelic. "Purple Haze", "Hey Joe", "Stone Free", "May This Be Love", and "Red House" are just a few of the great songs on this album, because all of them are really good. This album is a must have for any rock or just plain music fan. Jimi Hendrix will be remembered as long as Bach, and this is one of the reasons why. Jimi Hendrix is considered the founder of modern day rock, and he opened doors for groups like Queen to also have their name in history. Jimi Hendrix has stood the test of time, and if you don't believe me go to any high school and ask the music fans what they think of him. You'll probably hear something such as "Man he was the best, the King!"

- Awesome!!!

anything by jimi hendrix is good, this album is an especially good one though it has alot of the trio's best on it.

- Cool

Jimi could get anything out of his guitar

- The one album that changed my life.

Ever since i bought the CD, it has never been the same. for any time of the day, any time in life.
