The Cure - Pictures of You

Pictures of You by The Cure Song Info

"Pictures of You" is the fourth and final single from The Cure's 1989 album Disintegration. The single version is a remix edit of the album version, and at 4:48 minutes is significantly shorter than the original album version which runs for 7:24. There are also 2 different remixes on 2 UK 12" singles, and other singles released around the world, one of which later appeared on Mixed Up as the Extended Dub Mix and differs significantly from the album version in arrangement in that incorporates wholly original drum and bass arrangements. The other is an extended remix of the original album version which, at 7:59, runs slightly longer than the album version. There is also an edit which was released on 12" in the US, titled "extended remix" as in the European and Australasian releases, but which runs for 6:40 rather than 7:59. According to interviews, the inspiration of the song came when a fire broke loose in Robert Smith's home. After that day, Robert was going through the remains and came across his wallet which had pictures of his wife, Mary. The cover of the single is one of the pictures. The same picture was used as the cover of the "Charlotte Sometimes" single, but this version was heavily warped and distorted. In 2004, the song was voted 278th on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

The Cure - Pictures of You Song Lyrics

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures
Are all I can feel

Remembering you standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering you running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and whiter than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky

- Finally sounds amazing

I have had the original CD on my ipod for some time and it sounds aweful. It's like Robert Smith was singing with socks in his mouth or something. This remaster really cleans up this classic and gets it on it's feet again. When I first met my wife she introduced me to The Cure through this album. At the time I loved Metallica, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, so this album, which at that time had been out for about 18 months, was a real breath of fresh air. I always associate this album with our first few months together. In a couple of weeks we will be celebrating our 19th anniversary. It still brings me back to our early days, just much clearer now!

- A musical milestone

This album is The Cure's "Dark Side of the Moon." From the opening chimes of "Plainsong," into the incredible "Pictures of You," the thunderous title track and finally to the closing notes of "Untitled," Disintegration is truly a musical voyage of unprecedented proportions. Disintegration was the hallmark release of my high school years.

- This is a love song

"Disintegration" has been played so many times when my love life was erratic, sweet and confusing. These songs have lifted me and not made me feel alone. Especially the last song "Untitled", it sums the album up with a song about making peace with chaos and letting go of what you thought was going to last forever. This album by the Cure is my favorite by them; words cannot express how truly madly deeply and darkly amazing this album is for all who have loved and lost.

- PURRfect!!!!

This is hands down one of the BEST downloads of ALL TIME!!!!!

- Perfection

Disintegration will take you on a ride that you will want to take over and over again. Perfect soundtrack to a stormy night. I highly recommend listening with headphones/earbuds to really soak in the musical genius that went into making this album.

- My First Cure Album

I can still Listen to this album like it was 1988 again with the same nostalgia. A classic Cure Album one that I can easily listen to from beginning to end. My personal favorites are "The Same Deep Water As You" , " Disintegration" , "Plainsong" no need to mention the other classics as they are very well known.

- Amazing

True passion. Amazing!

- Great Album

This is a great overall album. Yes it has Pictures of You, Lullaby, Lovesong, and Fascination Street. But the two best songs on the album are Disintegration and The Same Deep Water As You. Worth the money. Download the whole thing.

- of all time...

Disintegration is one of the those perfect albums that you can't stop listening to and refuse to skip any of the tracks. It is covered in nostalgia, love, loss, depression, happiness, silliness, passion, vulnerability and determination. Very romantic and dark at the same time. I listened to this album (for the first time all the way through) when driving 22+ hours from Oregon back home to California on tour with my own band. It will forever be my #1 album of all time...

- AhhhhhhhThe Cure!!!

I love this album! I still own this tape!

- Best album ever!!!

The best album ever!!! A truly masterpiece.

- Best Album

This album defined the early 90s for me. Wow. Great album!!!

- Masterpiece

This album is a cutting edge masterpiece and must own for music lovers from all genres

- For anyone who hasn't heard this yet, you're missing out on a LOT.

Like Kyle from south park said: Disintegration is the best album ever!

- disintegration remastered

great to get this when i did. so sorry i threw my original cassette away; i could have used it for comparison. anyway the itunes download is just fine. i just got the vinyl reissue yesterday. it's better, but the i tunes is just fine, and it's a great album. i sort of remembered the '80's as not very good musically. but it was great, and this is one great example.

- One of the best albums ever...

This album was the soundtrack of my high schools years. I still love it!

- Pure magic

This album is as fresh today as it was then... Robert smith is very underrated ! The sound , lyrics pull you I'n & take u to another time / place .. If u haven't heard of this band your missing the boat !

- The Cure's most romantic album

I am shocked that only two reviews exist at the time of my writing this. Disintegration is one of the best albums put out by The Cure, and one of my favorite releases by any band. Simple yet effective drums, subtle bass, and the rare guitar chords are all woven together with one of the most densely-layers and flowing synthesizer-heavy compositions I have ever experienced... Of course, Robert Smith's vocals croon and wail appropriately, and the resulting potion is one of love, loss, redemption, and pure romance. I would recommend notable tracks, but in all honesty this entire album can be played through without skipping to acquire the full aesthetic. For those of you pondering purchasing the "Deluxe Edition" recently released - don't. The "remastering" has simply melted all sounds into one, and the thick forest of discrete noise that makes this album a treasure has been lost to modern technology. This album is great for rainy days, as a previous reviewer stated, AMAZING through headphones, and a must-own for anyone who has ever been in love.

- Classic.

This is probably one of my favorite albums ever. I really have to be in a mellow mood for it, but when I am, it's perfect. I'm only 15 and I love The Cure. They're so... authentic. I feel like they really capture that time in musical history, especially with this album.

- Really Good Album

To be honest, the first song from The Cure that I had ever heard was when they played Lovesong on the radio when this album first came out in 1989. Since then I've heard Pictures of You, bringing the total number of songs I've listened to from this album up two. I just recently bought this album from iTunes and I have to say I really liked it. I think Lovesong, Pictures of You, and Lullaby are the best songs on the album. I don't think that the other songs are as good as those three, but they're still worth listening to. It is a romantic album, I must admit, but I also found one, or two, of the songs a bit brooding. This album is definitely something I'd recommend.

- The Classic Cure Album

...That's what everyone says, and it is true! However, the (sometimes) repetitive, gothic tone is very acquired and while I did not like this album at first listen (and still don't like Homesick and Disintegration too much) I have gotten to LOVE this album!
