Howard Shore's amazing, clever score for the LOTR movies deserve to be among the best film soundtracks list of all time. This album recycles some of the best from the previous movies and introduces some terrific new ones. Get it as soon as you can!!

If you could only get one of the LOTR soundtracks, make it this one. Basically because this is where it all wraps up and he revisits all the great themes that you recognize and love. The magnitude of Howard Shore's compositions is unbelievable, it is truly unearthly, from a different world: the perfect soundtrack for Middle-Earth. The beautiful and occasionally dark music is wonderfully orchestrated and performed, I'm transported to the film everytime I listen. A few stand-outs that were particularly rousing or enjoyable were: Anduril, The Black Gate Opens, and The Return of the King. Some of the themes are truly magnificent, Howard Shore is a very talented composer. While most of it is instrumental, some parts are sung, including Into the West, a very well-executed song. Weighing in at 1.1 hours, this is one of the best soundtracks, indeed maybe even one of the best albums I own. If you loved the movie, and love great music, don't hesitate to get this album, you can't go wrong.

Specifically the music where Sauron falls and all the men cheer. That was the most beautiful music moments from all three....and they left it out!! STUPID STUPID STUPID!! However I still give it five stars due to the fact that the rest of the score was another masterpiece and that I have the complete recordings. It isn't my favorite of the three but in the end...Howard Shore ended Jackson's and Tolkien's epic masterpiece on a strong scale!!! If you bought the first two than finsih your collection of the music to the greatest films in history!!!

every note is perfect. I bought this a few years ago, right before the movie came out and it has still, to this day remained one of my favorite albums. It reflects the mood of the movie perfectly. it is beautiful. the sololists featured only add to the beauty. As a string player, I strongly recomend this album. It made me appreciate the power and beauty of a full orchestra. buy this album, and listen.

Howard Shore did such an amazing job with all three of the movies, and this soundtrack is no exception. It FEELS like music for LOTR should. All of his soundtracks upheld the emotions that one should and did feel while watching or reading these stories. The Fellowship of the Ring was sad, but hopeful. The Two Towers was hopeful and more energetic. The Return of the King was bittersweet. All of the soundtracks really capture beautifully the wonderful range of emotions, landscapes and characters that go into a story like this. The White Tree is by far my favorite of the ROTK tracks because a) it is one of my favorite parts in the movie and b) it is so full of engergetic, enthusiastic hope that you can't help but be uplifted by it. Also, though it is a bittersweet and somewhat sad song, I love Into the West sang by Annie Lennox. First of all, in a single song, it says what the entire movie was about and because it IS such a bittersweet song. I have never been disappointed by any of the LOTR soundtracks. Howard Shore captures the movies perfectly and the amazing landscapes of New Zealand/Middle Earth come to life in every note of every track of every album. This is music that anyone can enjoy, whether or not you are a fellow lover of LOTR.

The Return of the King is probably one of my all time favorite movies and the soundtrack just makes it ten times better!!! I should say that Howard Shore is just amazing and a absolute genius. There should be no argument on that point. I would like to see the first and second movies soundtrack on here also and have no idea why in the world they would take them off! I would recommend 5, 16, 17-19. All really good songs and you get Billy Boyd to sing!! One of my favorite soundtracks of all time! Take a look at it if you're really into orchestrated music and what not.

A very wonderful soundtrack. What got me to listening to soundtracks was the breaking of the fellowship from the Fellowship of the Ring. Since then I went to get a minor in Conducting music in college. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is worth buying. GREAT MUSIC!!!

After Star Wars and a couple other things, these are totally the best movies ever, and Howard Shore... I WANT TO HUG YOU! You rival the best composers out there, (sorry, HG-W) and the only other compose I like better than you is John Williams. For those of you that can't find Pippin's song: It's called the Steward of Gondor, #5. It's the music they play when Faramir goes off to fight in the battle and prove his loyalty to Gondor, and Denethor is all mad. THEN he asks Pip to sing. Gollum's Song is absolutely beautiful, too. Not too fond of her voice, but the music totally makes up for it. Has anyone really listened to the words?

I have every score of the LOTR trilogy and this is by far the best. Howard you da man!

From a composition standpoint this music is pure genius. The phrasing structure of it flows effortlessly from scene to scene. It's just freaking awesome. - Best songs include Minas Tirith, The White Tree, The Steward of Gondor, The Black Gate Opens, The Grey Havens, and Into the West. But really, every single song is awesome.

I don't really know which is better the movie, the book, or the music. I never cared about TLOTR (for those short sighted think of title) but the music for it works extremely well. Howard Shore did a fantastic job putting it together. Which ever version you like you'll agree that the music is perfect.

Orchestral music, or any music for that matter doesn't get much better than this. Howard Shore truly has made something incredible with this composition, which is only fitting for the equally superb film it is associated with. You don't have to enjoy orchestral music to be able to feel the powerful emotions conveyed through the music. Anyone who has the slightest interest in soundtracks, composition, or The Lord of the Rings must buy this album. You're only depriving yourself if you don't.

what about that one song one of the hobbits sings when the steward's son in rideing to try take back the rive,r they should put that song on

Out of the three this one is the best and most epic. Thge Ride of the Rohirrim is a must own. It's just to bad that The Return of the King is album only cause Viggo (Aragon) sings his evanstar poem at the end of it and it's very beautiful

I'm really happy to see that a lot of other people have seen and love the lord of the rings and love it, also, my favorite character is Legolas, because he was played by Orlando Bloom and Orlando Bloom is HOT HOT HOT!

This was a great soundtrack and its worth buying but I wish they included the song that Pippin sang. It was really beautiful.

Okay, I have read the book four times and every time I cry at the grey havens part. Into the west is such a good representation of that part. Lotr is my favorite book ever, and I am pretty knowlegable about it. Although they got the lyrics to the steward of gondor wrong, this is a very beautiful and powerful song. I always imagine Billy Boyd crying at the end. Most of the time I hate opera, but I think it really works in lotr. They did the return of the king very well, especially the part when Viggo Mortenson sing the "Et earello endorenna utulien. Sinome Maruvan ar hildinyar tenn' amar metta" section. He did however mispronounce Earello, but that's OK. btw, it means out of the great sea to middle earth i am come. Here I shall abide, and my heir unto the ending of the earth. Just in case you wanted to know.Personally, I think the complete recordings is better, but this is way cheaper, and has all the essential song. I love lotr and I loooooove Aragorn.

This album is amazing and well worth the price. Howard Shore is a musical genius and this is one of the best film scores ever written(Into the West my personal favorite, Annie Lenox has an amazing voice!!!)

This movie has the best score I have ever heard (the complete edition of the soundtrack, available on iTunes, is even better). The music is stirring and evocative, and if you've seen the movie and you listen to this album you will instantly view images in your mind. Maybe that's because I'm an LOTR geek, but even so this soundtrack stands on its own as a major accomplishment. I never get tired of listening to "The White Tree" or "The Fields of the Pelennor". The song "Into the West" is fantastic and is the perfect ending to the trilogy. A must-buy.

This soundtrack is epic, beautiful, and captivating. It flawlessly captures the depth and intensity of the Lord of the Rings. A must buy for all music lovers!

As exhausting as the third movie is, which I supposed was intended and not a bad thing, the closing credits song "Into the West" is the perfect cap of the Trilogy. Almost supernaturally moving, it helps process and sum up the entire journey that is Lord of the Rings. Honestly, I never expect much out of the now mandatory attempts at soundtrack singles (Thanks Bee Gees), but this is the rare exception where talent, skill and purpose overcame executive demands at commerce. In short, this is a fantastic song, dripping with emotion but never sounding treacly. Brilliant. The Emiliana Torrini song from the Two Towers is also good, although since the subject here is much more austere, "Into the West" naturally feels superior. I suppose it is the goal of these type of soundtrack singles to make you want to watch the movie again and this song does, so mission accomplished in style.
