- A Step Forward

I had talked to a guy who works at Hot Topic about the album before it was released. He told me that it was a different sound for Whitechapel, nothing like The Somatic Defilement or their sophomore album. I knew Whitechapel wouldnt dissapoint and they didnt. This is still as heavy as their old stuff, but its more technical and its a cleaner sound. Lamb of God and bands like it have done the same thing, and it obviously works. No Whitechapel isnt selling out or trying to re-invent the wheel here, theyre just maturing as a band. Every track is good. Really like Make it Bleed. Buy the album if you like metal or are a fan.

- Siiiick

Sickest album of the year!! Love it

- HUGE!

I loved the somatic defilement but to me the subsequent albums had the computerized deathcore sound i've never really appreciated. The new album however sounds rediculous. The riffs are dirty, the drums bang and Phil's vocal parts are insane.

- Ahh omg

Amazing! Love every second of it! Probably my favorite for sure so far!!! (Cult)uralist is my favorite for sure. Buy it now!

- Amazing

Great album, my friend and I have loved Whitechapel for years and I can honestly say this album impressed us.

- TN Metal strikes again.

Great album, any haters should go f--k there mother to a justin beibbbbber song, while i skull f--k there sister.

- Kablegamer is an idiot.

This is nowhere close to nu-metal, and a self-titled album does not imply going back to your roots. It implies the band's discovery of its own unique sound, which is exactly what whitechapel has acheived. the guitar riffs are memorable, the production is perfect, the lyrics are meaningful and well-written, and it's disgustingly heavy. this is everything you could ask for in a metal band. whitechapel has changed, but certainly not for the worse. Top 5 tracks: 5) Hate Creation 4) I, Dementia 3) The Night Remains 2) Possibilities of an Impossible Existence 1) Seciton 8

- From day one

As a fan from the day Somatic Defilement was released, I hereby dub this album 5 stars. Heres why: 1. Now Phil Bozeman's vocals haven't changed much since SD. But this isn't a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. He is a pioneer of exhale guttural vox that tear open listeners eardrums. To me, he is second only to Big Chocolate (Disfiguring the Goddess) as top death metal vocalist. 2. This album was a watered down excitement for me because of the fourish star rating I would give New Era of Corruption; but I know that album didn't get bad reviews by others so I'll leave that alone. BUT, this record surpasses NEoC musically hands down. The opening riff to Make it Bleed owns you, controls you, and you can't help but enjoy it. And with three seasoned guitarists (yeah three) you SHOULD expect/demand such work. 3. Finally, in a world of young men with tight pants playing nothing but open Es and cheap boxy high notes, WC soars above with talent, experience, and downright maturity. These songs aren't fast drums and 3 notes with distortion until the "most brutal" breakdown comes and around 2:30 into the song. They took their time and made a staple for any Deathcore enthusiasts iPod. It would be a mistake to pass this up. Hope this helps! See you at Nile's release of At the Gates of Sethu, July 3rd!!

- A perfect album for an angry age

I love everything about this record especially the diversity. It shows songcrafting at metals best. There is a layer on this album that is different that all of their previous brilliant efforts. Its called maturity and not sounding like every other band.. Live they are one of the heaviest things I have ever heard. BUY THIS!!

- Keeping it fresh

I'm not a huge deathcore fan, always been a whitechapel fan. I think the most appealing thing about whitechapel for has been how they blend the deathcore elements with really dark melodies, cool 3 guitar part harmonies, and brutalizing vocals/drums. The fact that this album's sound is starkly different fro their previous albums is not a bad thing. It's still whitechapel and still, in fact, a crushing album. It might turn off some deathcore/scene kids, but for an all around metal enthusiasts, this might be their most interesting release. I only rated the album 4 stars because they did depart from their earlier sound quite a bit and that will definitely dissappoint some fans. The change is also a means I don't like their songs in the same way I enjoyed their older stuff

- Great!

This is whitechapels best and most creative release so far! I enjoyed every track on this release. The only thing it lacks is the number of tracks. Don't get me wrong ten tracks is a good amount but one of them is a instrumental so it makes the album a bit short but still this is there best release and most enjoyable so far.

- Incredible

Sick riffs throughout, the last song #10 has one the dirtiest openings I've ever heard in a song. The riffs in this album are almost as good as some of Lamb of Gods best riffs! Only thing is there aren't many breakdowns like they usually have, different sound for whitechapel, but it's still a very very solid album nonetheless.

- Brutal is all I could ask for.

The same brutalness I expect from a whitechapel album.

- Heading the right direction.

This is nothing compared to their first album. if your into the breakdown scene this isnt for you, their last LP broke away from that genre but even though that was good and had great hooks, it became too repetitive. This has a nice long layout with enough room to hear the instruments without Phil constantly repeating verses... well no he still takes up most of this record but thir are breaks. Along with that his voice molded into a more distinct sound. A more mature sound along with each guitar serving more purpose than breakdowns makes any band sound better but i gotta say, i still feel like this band can do better if Bozeman would stop shouting and let the music play .

- Flawless

This album definitely shows Whitechapel's versatility and talent. Any rating below 4/5 or 9/10 shows that the rater doesn't know or listen to good music.

- Make it bleed!

I knew this album would be great when I heard some tracks off of it. Cant wait to see whitechapel on mayhem festival!

- not their best but still great.

this album is definitely a step forward for this band and i can understand why some people wouldn't like it. they have added some nu metal themes to it, but that doesn't decrease from the brutality. there are some awesome hooks in this album. i've loved these guys since i first heard them in 08, awesome cd guys!

- Best Album!!

I love it!! \m/

- Finally into them

It took me way too long to get into this band, finally I can call myself a fan of them. I always thought they were a tad generic but clearly I was way wrong. They mix a lot of new elements into this album, and they seem to be moving in the right direction.

- Ben does it again

Ben really pushed how many solos he could bang out in this album, the guitar work was really unique and very impressive. As for the song structure, it's a lot different from their last three albums, but then again all bands are trying to do that now. The song structure isn't quite what I expected for Whitechapel's self titled album, there wasn't enough unique breakdowns mixed with fast-paced rhythm, which is one of the things I loved most about their previous albums. I did like the piano in a couple tracks though, I thought it helped show the pure talent of Whitechapel. If you are a Whitechapel fan, this IS worth buying, but you must be open to different elements in their songs.

- Let's do a real review...

First off, the contents are my opinions. Guitars 9/10 Cons: Every solo seems to be the same harmonic minor scale. On the upside, the atmospheric guitar lines make use of all three players, they got a godly tone, breakdowns are fast and brutal, not the chug chug bree bree style crap, and the riffs are catchy and heavy. Bass 2/10: The times where the guitars stopped the bass sounded great, but other than that it's indistinguishable from the rest of the mix. Drums 9/10 Fantastic job. I don't think it's very fair to compare the new guy to Kevin Lane. Both are fantastic drummers. It seems like the new guy prefers thrash style double bass passages rather than punk beats or blast beats, but I'm a sucker for double bass so thumbs up to that. The drums sound huge and fit in really well with the guitars. I haven't listened through really nice speakers yet, so I can't tell how I like the triggers on this album, but in the past the triggers have overpowered the bass drum's natural tone. Hopefully it's not like that on this one. Vocals 10/10 Phil Bozeman, as always, is the real treat of Whitechapel. His lows are just as gutteral as The Somatic Defilement, his mids are just as clear as This Is Exile, and his highs have improved since A New Era of Corruption. The enunciation is ridiculous; almost every word is understandable. He pulls off interesting rhythms with his voice, which is generally a rairity in this kind of music. You can tell how he really believes in his lyrics, its not just going through the motions. Speaking of which... Lyrics 5/10 Corny as maize. Certainly the album has its moments, but it doesn't compensate for some of the stupid lines that pop up. But I will admit that I've only listened through a couple times and I haven't picke out all the lyrics yet. I may well change my mind. Overall 8/10 It's a progression from their old stuff with marked improvements. The guitars took a turn for the simpler, which isn't nessecarily a bad thing. If you want Tech Death, you'd be better off listening to Necrophagist or Archspire. It's brutal, moshable, and listenable. It sounds very organic and inspired, and the atmospheric guitar lines do nothing but enhance the already brutal riffs. It's a fantastic album and well worth the buy.

- Great album

I like it more than their others because they really ventured out to something new rather than the same ol' WhiteChapel. Buy it..

- Awesome

This album is amazing! For all of you complaining about this CD are not true Whitechapel fans, you're just fans of a particular CD BY Whitechapel. I'm excited about this change and I'm also glad that it's not a clone of a previous CD. Phil Bozeman is still one of the best vocalists out in metal these days.

- wow

This is really good I mean REALLY good. you might not like it at first because its a little different but the best way I can put it is its like the As I lay Dying cd The powerless Rise. Its different and you know you like it the first time you hear it but it really takes a few listens before you really appreciate it. If you dont like it i could care less

- solid

solid stuff! to say they sold out is just dumb... are they all over mtv or traded in growls and screams for whining and crooning? no? are they billboard top 10? no? do teenage girls proclaim a song as "sooo ooold" 3 months after release? no? then shut up and know what you talk about before you throw around the selling out cliche. these dudes still pound you into submission...

- Daammnnn

This album is insane, its definatley worth the $9. Great album for a cheap price.

- It all sounds the same but I love Whitechapel too much

This album doesn't have the harmonies that the others have. I'm not complaining about the lack of breakdowns like most people are but I'm simply saying as a musician with 18 years of experience, melody is what sticks in a person's head. Every song on here has a lot of amazing detail but they all sound the same as opposed to their other albums where I could actually tell the difference in every track. I will always love Whitechapel, they will always be one of my favorites, I will always go to the shows and buy their stuff, but they sound like they are trying to almost copy The Black Dahlia Murder and those guys have mastered the genre. Chapel's best album was A New Era.

- So Very Choice

The new self-titled retains Whitechapel's signature sound but it has vibes of the metal I worshiped in high school (circa 1998-2002). To me, that's a good thing. Their sound has evoled, matured, and they've progressed as musicians. These are their most technical songs thus far. I like breakdowns as much as the next deathcore fan, but their's more to Whitechapel than that ... obviously. The lyrics are pretty swell too. Make it Bleed is my favorite track on the album. I hope they stay on this path for a while.

- Whitechapel....

...musical saw blades

- Dont listen to the downers rating 1 stars

This album is incredible. Whitechapel has come a step up from a new era of corruption. its only 9 dollars.... BUYT IT!!

- Riff Fest 2012

I though A New Era of Corruption was a great record but this is far superior in every way. Phil still has one of the best growls out there, the new drummer adds to an already solid rhythm section, but this albums strength lies in its guitar work. Riff after memorable riff really helps set this apart from all their other records as well as setting it a step above. This will definitely be one of the better metal releases of this year.

- Album is awesome

This album is just a great album. Three words to describe it.. Speed, aggressive, hate.

- Amazing

This album is sick!

- The Best Album of the Year!

Whitechapel did a comeback from A NEw Era and bring a masterpiece!

- Great album

They did a great job on this album. I'm definitely glad they changed their sound a bit. That means they are intelligent enough to realize if they keep the same sound every album, then their music is going to sound repetitive and boring. Whitechapel never disappoints, buy with confidence!

- A five year fan of Whitechapel and I say it's easily their best

This album supremely elevates whitechapel's game. They are a true heavy-hitter in the field of metal now. Note: THIS IS NOT NU-METAL (i.e. Korn) , IT JUST DOESN'T HAVE A BREAKDOWN EVERY 30 SECONDS WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT 17 YEAR OLD SCENE KIDS DIG NOWADAYS. They've gone near progressive on us utilizing all three guitar parts to create a layered, rumbly vibe to the album. It's easily Whitechapel's most mature release to date and showcases a lot of as-of-yet unseen strengths from every band member. If you're into metal at all, you won't regret this purchase.

- Section 8

If you are only going to download 1 or 2 songs from this album, check out Section 8..banginnn

- haha

Sounds like they are trying to be Slipknot. Still good though

- Worth every penny.

Love the album! Every songs is insane & way too brutal.

- Whitechapel

Different but amazing as always

- So amazing!

In my opinion, this is by far Whitechapel's greatest and heaviest album yet!

- This album is sexy

I might make it the mother of my children :P

- Phenomenal

Best album they've written. True American heavy metal. Hell yes.

- Hell yes

I'm 28 and have been listening to metal for the last 15 years and I'm disappointed there's still dumb elitist metal fans out there. Whitechapel trying to be Slipknot? Is Slipknot the only metal band you know? Whitechapel has never once sounded like Slipknot, ever, quit sounding stupid. I love this album, it really surpassed "New Era" and gives Whitechapel their own unique identity in the sea of bands out there. There's a reason they stand up above the rest and this new S/T album proves it. Phil's vocals improve and change, guitar tone is crushing and the drums are perfect. I agree with one of the other posters that music should not be limited and just because you listen to one band shouldn't exclude you from listening to something else. I also listen to everything from Pantera to Skrillex to Fleshgod Apocalypse to Smashing Pumpkins. I learned not to limit myself based on labels, listen to what you want if YOU think it sounds good, screw what other people think.

- Sick album

Heavy songs worth the wait big Whitechapel fan good songs can't wait to hear them live and get in the pit especially on those heavy riffs

- not bad

its different but still good. not as good as the last album thats for sure. but its worth checking out for true whitechapel fans. for just metal fans you could call this album average. does have a couple REALLY good tracks that u can seriously get in to.

- They Still Whitechapel Even Tough With A Few New Sounds

I gotta say that as many of you I was disappointed with the first 2 singles,Hate creation and I,dementia but after the brutal opening of Make It Bleed I fell in love again! It is true they change the sound a little but that doesnt mean for bad.Phil's voice still sounding brutal and the guitar job is great. The new drummer also added great sound and showed that he is qualify for the job.Stand out songs for me are Make It Bleed,Faces,Dead Silence and Possibilities Of An Impossible Life.Dont quit on this guys, give them a chance to show you why they still brutal since their debut with The Somatic Defilement =).I hope my insight help you guys, cheers. Martin

- WHITECHAPEL

This album is a must get I've preordered the album twice and this band will rip your face right off your body. If you like this check out the other albums!! WHITECHAPEL WILL NEVER DIE

- I dig

Phil Bozeman is a beast, but ik people are gonna complain that this isn't as heavy as This Is Exile. "Hate Creation" is definitely the coolest song. Everything sounds the same on this record though. But i like metal so yeah. I'm just rambling now cos i'm tired and bored. I like my cats and they like me. I hope people like my cats also when they see them someday.

- Great album but..

i think they could of went back to somatic a bit, sounds like UABB kinda, but great album anyways.
