Phenominal..... Great mix of genres. Everything on this sounds epic.... Maybe it was that Sound City Sound Board. If you like anything Dave Grohl does, you'll love this. 5 stars.
An absolute must for anyone that loves REAL music. I have such an appreciation for these talented people.
Love the album. You can tell everybody is a master of their art and the musical fun is beautifully imparted by the Neve recording desk.
Get the tape out!! Love It, awesome album Doco is outstanding as well.
great album, but the devil is now associated with sound city. god bless your souls
After hearing these songs, I think that this is an amazing album! Every song is powerful in its own way. There are so many great artists on this soundtrack and it is obvious how hard they worked to make this soundtrack sound amazing. Dave Grohl is a genius! I like every song on this album. My favorite is "Cut Me Some Slack." At age 70, Paul McCartney still has it! For anybody who loves rock, I highly recommend this album. This isn't just a soundtrack. This is a masterpiece! I also highly recommend watching the movie. The movie is fantastic, because in my opinion, the story about Sound City is told perfectly and anybody who watches the movie will see how some of the songs were recorded for the soundtrack. This soundtrack and the movie is a big thumbs up!
Everything this man touches is awesome, he knows how to do what he loves. Great album.
This album is so good! I love it. I have been wanting a big mash up like this forever. Bring all the good stuff together, melt it in a pot and this is what you get. So good. More bands/genres need to do this!
Some of it I can live without. Overall, da' bomb! Two thumbs up
Luckily, I found out about the "Sound City:Reel To Reel" through the Foo Fighters e-mail mailing list. I decided to take a chance on them because I previously enjoyed the Foo Fighters greatest hits collection, their Wasting Light cd, and had much fun at one of the Foo Fighters concerts back in November 11, 2011. As with millions of others, I have been aware of Foo Fighters since the 1990's thanks to MTV. Additionally, I have been familiar with the Foo Fighters and this genre of music because my two older brothers listened to rock music. I like the diverse music collaborations on this cd. I also completely understand that it is going to vary with each man or woman on personal favorites on this cd. However, I have to admit that the following songs caught my attention: "Heaven And All" (Robert Levon Been, Dave Grohl,Peter Hayes), "You Can't Fix This" (Stevie Nicks, Dave Grohl,Taylor Hawkins,& Rami Jaffee),"The Man That Never Was" (Rick Springfield,Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins,Nate Mendel&Pete Smear), "From Can To Can't"(Corey Taylor, Dave Grohl,Peter Hayes),"Cut Me Some Slack" (Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic&Pete Smear), and "Mantra" (Dave Grohl, Joshua Homme,& Trent Reznor). "Sound City: Reel To Reel" is a great music choice for those who like rock music featuring an eclectic range of musicians.
Very cool album, i really like it!
I've been in a musical funk lately. Not anymore. Thumbs up!
The collaborations throughout are beautiful, fun, and powerful.
Sad that it won't allow me to download the digital booklet, but the album itself is amazing!
It's worth the purchase price just for the last three tracks alone...Dave's love letter to an age that is quickly disappearing is the perfect compliment to the film.
Thanks Dave, Butch, Neve and all other Rock and Roll heroes contained herein. This album would be a steal at $99.99.
Dave is the man
Rock and Roll that is. Best $10 I spent in a great while. Not going to hate on any current music but I will say that I'm so glad that well written, played, and produced music is still out there. It's just hard to find sometimes. Thanks again Mr. Grohl.
Mantra, once 5:25 it takes one to that heavy dark place and with the three wisemen (Josh, Trent, and Dave) draging the light. Rock on...
Mantra, Cut Me Some Slack, and The Man That Never Was are some of the greatest songs I have ever heard. Thank you Dave Grohl for giving me something to listen to when I'm walking, doing work, art, and whenever I'm bored. This is The Greatest Thing Ever Recorded.
There is a problem with the music industry squashing music to make it sound loud to the buyer….This removes all the space and magic from the music…ie destroys the dynamic range. In this case it was particularly disturbing. Here is a movie about the golden days of sound with a 75,000 dolllar legendary board and analogue magic. The movie sounded GREAT, AMAZING….the disc is squashed to a Dynamic range of about 6DB, essentially ruining all the hard work and the entire goal of the project. I WILL NOT be purchasing any more over compressed music. AND I AM YOUR MOST SOUGHT AFTER CUSTOMER…..a music nut and musician. Please please please allow some dynamic range in music…..it's like removing the colors from life….or flooding them so extreme your eyes and mind fatigue and cant see anymore…..THANKS ahead of time….Listen to some Dynamic Range 12DB music to hear this for yourself. And listen to a full album at each….watch how the DR6 fatigues and is unpleasant, while the DR12 is full range life! Please send to Dave Grohl….this has completely debunked his whole project! Which WAS brilliant!
Brings you back
stop looking at the reviews. get it!!!!!!
…there were 666 reviews. Now there are 667
I've been waiting for this album since I saw the movie. I don't know what kind of Crossroads Deal with the Devil Dave Grohl has made, but this is a sure Grammy/Oscar winner. This guy has a Midas touch that can only come with doing projects straight from the heart. I caught the live show on Hollywood Blvd. and I can only hope that some recordings from the various dates are coming down the pike. Everyone was having way too much fun to end this ride.
Awesome!
Epic!
If you don't get this album, you'll probably regret it or just don't love your mom... Seriously, i listen this EVERYDAY since, to wake up, to go to work, AT work, its awesome for training at the gym.. Keeps you active, moving and motivated! BUY IT! Believe me...
"A Trick With No Sleeves" is worth the price of admission. Every song is very unique, I find a new favorite each time I listen. I rarely spend money on an album but have no regrets buying this one. Looking forward to a tour to see the songs live!
Can't get enough of this film! Already a masterpiece in my book! Grew up in the 70's in Cleveland with WMMS. WoW---this film triggered so many great memories, not to mention what DG is doing in the present. "Thank You Dave"!!!
I LOVE this album! Having grownup in the mid-70's, all of the 80's and finishing college in the mid-90's, I can say, all of the collaborators on this album, on their own are great. Dave getting them to collaborate with him, makes them even better! (if that's possible) This album IS my childhood and teenage years all in one. Dave Grohl gets music, he gets how to make the song/record the best it can be. You can be a good, or even great musician, but surrond yourself with other great musicians, and you'll come out this something incredible.
Song number 6 is by far my fav. Corey Taylor's voice is simply amazing. The song grows more addicting each time I listen. Love it!
This Crazy good!!
This album rocks!! I like how Dave incorporated people not only from his era but before. Also I like how he didn't just to super rock grunge. He kept the genre open to slow stuff and heavy stuff which is awesome!!
The song Mantra is worth the price of the whole album! The movie was fantastic and literally everything Grohl does is fantastic...but again just the song Mantra alone is worth it all. Great stuff!
I have always loved Dave Groul, but this brings me back to my roots in 1977, when I moved to LA (Redondo Beach). What a trip down memeoy lane and the music sounds so SOUND CITY, even today. What a great place and erea to live in.
This album brought me back to the warm sound of tape recorded music! Get this album and revel in the sound!
Bought this for 'Cut Me Some Slack,' a great track obviously. Having listened to the album start to finish three or four times, 'Slack' may not even be in my top five. There are some really epic songs in this collection: 'A Trick With No Sleeve,' 'Centipede,' 'The Man That Never Was,' 'Heaven And All,' - ok, you get the idea. I agree with Vampirecat. Anything involving Dave Grohl is going to be great.
I think Dave was born too late. Today's music scene does not deserve his talent. The more he does, the more I think he belongs in the same category with people like Paul McCartney.
Love the album. Appreciate it even more after watching the movie. Dave Grohl has once again proved what a true rockstar he is.
Everything that comes from Dave is awesome! The song From Can to Cant is perfection!!! This album shows that real music can still be done!
This is an album that makes you believe in rock and roll again. It's music at its purest form performed by artists who remind you what great musicians are truly like. This is an album that proves not all music is the overproduced garbage that pollutes the charts and airwaves.
There is plenty to love here, but it finishes with these three. Although, I this isn't the only time that Trent, Josh, and Dave will be all playing on a single track, but it might be the only time we get all of their vocals tracked as one. It is awesome.
One of the best rock albums to come along in years…You will love most if not all of the songs on the album…In other words…You have to buy the entire album…You will not be disappointed .
I love Dave Ghrol and I love this. Do more of this please!
This album is a piece of rock n roll magic that has been missing from this world for way too long. FROM CAN TO CAN'T, maybe one of the greatest songs ever recorded for a collaboration. Dave Grohl is a rock n roll genius, and i'm sure will go down as one of the great rock legends of our time. Thank you for an amazing album.
The only all star album I recall liking was John Lee Hookers - THE HEALER. This album retains the special elements of the various artists and allows them to create an album of disjointed songs. Love the album and I would like to thank Grohl for the effort.
Amazing album. Amazing movie. The trick with no sleeve may the best song I've heard in years. Another favorite is the man that never was... Rick Springfield? Still got it... And Dave Grohl is unstoppable as usual
Good and good for ya!
Recording on tape isn't easy, but Dave will never forget how! This is truly great music! (Check out the movie if you haven't already).
Lots of talent!
All I can say is "awesome", thank you Dave Grohl.
PURE RAD. MAKE YOURSELF OWN THIS.
Dave Grohl can do no wrong, and he proves it again with this film and its impeccable soundtrack. Enjoy it!
