Enya - Orinoco Flow

Orinoco Flow by Enya Song Info

The song was highly popular in the early 1990s and was featured on many pop music compilations. It shares part of its name with Orinoco Studios (now Miloco Studios), where it was recorded. The division of syllables to follow the pattern of music may trick the listener into thinking that the song is written in Latin (as some Enya tracks are), but the lyrics are in fact English. At the end of the song she pays tribute to Warner Brothers Music UK CEO Rob Dickins and makes a more veiled reference to producer Ross Cullum. In 1998 a special edition 10th anniversary remix single was released. Locations referenced in lyrics (in order of mention) Orinoco River, Venezuela and Colombia Tripoli, Libya Yellow Sea, China Bissau, Guinea-Bissau Palau, islands near the Philippines Avalon, British Isles Fiji, Fiji islands Tiree, Scotland Isles of Ebony, England Peru, Peru Cebu, Philippines Babylon, Iraq Bali, Indonesia Cali, a city in Colombia Coral Sea, Australia Ebudae (Inner Hebrides), Scotland (also the name of a later Enya song) Khartoum, Sudan Sea of Clouds, the Moon, possibly Mount Huangshan, China Island of the Moon, Madagascar Ross Dependency (this was an in song reference to Ross Cullum)

- One of the better ones, but...

...I like music that's a little more exciting, like Blue Tribe and stuff like that.

- One of those albums you need to listen to before you die

Enya has been at the forefront of her genre for a long time now. But this 1988 album is perhaps her crowning achievement. Every song flows with a vital energy. Each song transitions with the motion of waves on the beach, in and out, from dark to light, loud to soft, lazy to energetic and back again. Enya fashions an ingeniously unique sound through the combination of modern mixing and synthesizing and the melodic library and instruments of her ancient Celtic roots. While this sort of music is not for everybody, this is the cream of the crop and its worth a listen for all those who haven't. You might find you've been missing out all these years. There is alot more to this woman than Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)!

- yesssssss

this album is my favorite out of all of them- enya is amazing and her music is so beautiful and oeaceful

- Beautiful

I'm the only person I know that's heard of Enya, but her songs are gorgeous, they make you want to dance and cry at the same time! I always reccomend her music to people and they look at me like I'm nuts-- but I always have it on in my room, with a book and a cup of tea, it's so pretty and relaxing. Get Orinoco Flow, Only Time, and Wild Child ALL her music is BEAUTIFUL

- Great Memories

When I was little my parents would play this album in the car and it would always put me to sleep. I finally bought it for my ipod, and every time I listen to it the songs bring me back to the days I wore pigtails.

- Watermark satisfies

I have loved this album since it first came out. I have taken it with me on all my international trips to listen to at night in youth hostels and other odd places. It always satisfies! I'm about to travel to France so I updated my copy from the stretched out cassette to a fresh MP3 version. I'm sure it will keep me inspired and alive inside through the worst security lines, and when I need a little check-in with myself and downtime from visiting and practicing my French, it'll be there! By far her best album, Watermark satisfies!

- Her absolute best.

I can't believe this album is almost 20 years old! She still sounds beautiful, but nothing is quite like Watermark. It was so different for its time, an still is.

- Critic: "Two Thumbs Up"

Four Words: Enya...Is...The...Best

- Pretty Good Album...

This was a pretty good album. I think that Enya has made better ones but some of the songs on here were really good like Watermark, Miss Clare Remembers, Storms in Africa, and Orinoco Flow.
