I like Skype - The nationalsAll my respect goes out to them. They never make a bad album. Definitely listening to this album over and over
528 Ragtime - : )So good!!
msteph7 - Wow.I usually don't write reviews for albums but I am seriously impressed and moved. Almost poetic songwriting, gut-wrenching melodies, and so incredibly relatable it's unreal. Hats off to The National. You did it again.. and it's beautiful.
7 big bucks$ - Listen Closely!I didn't like this album at first but after I listened closely I realized it's a masterpiece. Start from Don't Swallow the Cap and build from there.
lovecreep - Not their best work.As an album it is great, but if compared with their back catalog it does not stand out. With that being said I still think this is the best album I have heard this year. A strong contender for album of 2013 in my opinion.
FiveStarNova - Best Album I've Heard In A WhileI really think this is the best album I have heard in a while creative tones, pitches, rhythms and lets not forget the lyrics. I would recommend this album to a friend, a relative even an enemy. Its inspiring and beautiful.
madzia81 - highly addictiveIt's good to have band like The National that you can always depend on when it comes to releasing brilliant albums. This album is not at all what I expected but maybe that makes it even better. I keep looking at the time at work, counting minutes to my lunch break so I can just put the head phones back on and keep singing 'I need my girl' when no one's around. If you're looking for a beautiful album and loved 'Think you can wait' and 'Vilify' you will fall in love with this one
SacramentoMiah - LousyI don't like your music
reck25 - Indie album of the year!In the 5 years that I have known The National have never made and in your face record. None of the previous albums had me from the start. This album was different. It wasn't immediate but I knew exactly what it was about the moment I heard it. The album maybe slow burning for some but the moment you let it take you it has its grip on you from start to finish. This band has definitely earned its success. No matter if you like vinyl, cd or mp3 its great record. Make sure its a part of your collection! This album goes great with dark beer on a rainy day! SImply perfection!
Spiderham15 - FantasticI've had the album since it came out and it's the perfect mix of mellow songs with songs that really rock, I'm just now discovering how good certain songs really are
MJlover67 - LoveOne of my favorite National albums.
RaindogDK - So good**********
terrieralice - Best work so farI have been excitedly anticipating the release of this album and WOW it was so worth the wait. If anyone says this is less than perfect, they are completely off the mark. This will be on replay for quite some time!
shadowmoses42 - Great Album!I first became a fan of The National with their album, Boxer. I think Trouble Will Find Me is a great follow-up to High Violet and I find myself liking this album slightly more. The best song on this album, in my opinion, is Pink Rabbits, hands down. I love the piano and I think it tells a great, kinda sad, story. Other greats on this album for me include: Don't swallow the cap, demons, I need my girl, and fireproof. If you're a fan, this album is a must-buy!
raveltherapy - Amazing. Awesome. Perfect.I don't know how these guys keep releasing music of this caliber so consistently. Simply astonishing.
Groogas - Very DisappointingThis album left me numb, and not in a good way. Before I say anything more, I should say I'm a huge fan of The National. I have worn out High Violet, Boxer and Alligator and have seen the band live three times. I think Matt is Matt Berninger is one of the smartest lyric/song writers around, and could do no wrong. Well, I guess he can.
This CD sounds like a B-side/outtake collection culled from the past decade. There are simply no outstanding tracks to be found. I kept waiting for a song to creep into what I consider the band's Top 20 tracks. Nothing. In fact, their track Exile Vilify (from the Portal 2 game) would easily stand out on this album of mostly filler. I was hoping repeated plays would let the songs grow on me, but the more l listened the more depressed I got. It's a sad turn for a great band, and I hope it's not the end of the road for these guys.
Down4SoCal - HumiliationIf you start with track 11, make sure you are lying in a quiet dark room to get the experience. It is by far my favorite song on the album, and ranks up there with my favorites of all time from this band. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this album, and how much I enjoy this band. Their sound is truly different and subtle. It brings me to a level of calm that I can't quite get with anything else. Truly hard to understand or explain.
Giorgioserr - AWESOME!Every song in this new album is amazing. Each one with a different incredible feel! I appreciate the mellowness of some songs, great, just GREAT.
boderoniol - Mesmerizing and beautifulI've been a fan of The National since I first heard Slow Show on my Songza station about a year ago. Everything about the song struck me as incredible-- it was dreamy, tragic, hopeful, and ultimately beautiful. Ever since then, I have been able to dive more deeply into this amazing band's body of work, and I eagerly anticipated this album ever since it was first announced. I must say, I was not disappointed. It is just as heartfelt, mysterious, brooding and beautiful as anything else by them, and perhaps even more mature and slow-burning. The lyrics here are almost jaw-droppingly touching and openly affected at points, and if you follow along reading the lyrics with the songs, you will find yourself blown away by their ability to weave the most emotionally far-reaching tales out of the simplest lyrics, all sung in that brilliant baritone voice that we have all so grown to love. It is certainly one of the best albums of 2013 so far, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is either a current fan of this incredible band or someone who is looking for something new.
JoeDecker - Treat Yourselfand listen to this record and all National's albums of past ... A wonderful collection of beautiful music ... cover to cover perfection .. this and every Nationals record is a masterpiece !
Bullwinkle5 - The NationalBest band in America. This release doesn't disappoint. These guys just keep getting better.
mallai - Several listens....it has taken me to see and hear this now brilliant album..they just draw you in eventually and so sincerely..nobody out there does it like these guys..download immediately!
allrp - Just....wowThis is the first album I have ever heard from The National and I am extremely impressed. The replay value of these tracks are through the roof.
Ronald Iekel - The National rock!!The National continue to amaze me with there new album. I can't wait to see them at Merriweather on June 6th. It's been along time since a band with such talent all around has been on the scene. Looking forward to being a fan for a long long time. Thanks gentlemen. You all really have something special going on here!
thestayup - Great albumGood tunes and awesome musicianship!
Ryakkan - Trouble Has Found MeThis is a great follow-up to 2010's High Violet. They continue to surprise me with their wonderful music.
Jennynochaser - AmazingThe National just keep raising the bar!
Matthias Knerr - SorrowStill love The National, but there is nothing new here. Take your least favorite song on High Violet, and that's as good as it gets.
JOHN M MOORE - The sound of maturity...soul, creativity, consistency, off-beat, on-beat, thoughtful, real
this is a group that continues to improve, continues to explore, and is headed by a true poet and backed by consummate musicianship. Bravo!
buy it and listen often
starorstone - Their best oneAmazing melodies and lyrics and transitions that move your emotions. Get this album, listen to it on repeat, it'll fill you up.
Gunter31 - The new album by The NationalThese songs are very well written and go way beyond what most bands wish they could sound like. This is a perfect example of a band maturing and hitting its stride and totally blowing us away with beautifully crafted lyrics and astounding melodies. Everyone should listen to their last two albums and then listen to this one. Quite unreal !
Echo Tribe - decent but certainly not there bestwas expecting better, overly mellow but they still show there talent…
christyness - BewitchingI was a bit nervous when I first heard Demons. I don't dislike the song, but I would dislike an album full of songs like it.
Then I heard Don't Swallow the Cap, and started to get excited. I started to suspect that this album would be special and rare.
I wanted an album from The National that, like High Violet, would grow on me and over a few weeks, eat its way into my heart.
I didn't know that instead it would flood me and haunt me.
I think about these songs all day. I hear them even when they aren't playing. Already I have spent hours driving at night in the country with the windows down just listening to them.
If there were a heaven, it would be a place where The National puts out an album a year for eternity.
pdesaab - Maintaining the pathI've listened to the album several times before writing this review. Often you need time for the melodies to stick in your head and I do believe that some great albums are not instant winner (best example for me was Kid A from Radiohead). I do believe that this is not the best album from The National but when you take all their previous works, it is impressive to see (and hear) this truly talented band being able to keep on delivering such quality work. Yes the album does not have the "grandiose" sound of High Violet, it feels more intimate and even if I miss some of the "rock" songs like Mister November or Abel, I applaud the fact they do not use the "old recipes" and instead give us something different. Thank you The National.
ScreamingEagle93 - Ummmm was the singer tired? The music sounds lovely but the singing ruins it. I couldn't understand a thing he sings (or should I say mumbles).
D31Pax - Absolutely loving it!!!!!!Can't wait to see them live
bensfiction - 6th Album a poignant, beautiful surpriseI'm always taken aback by The National when they make an album. They're last release High Violet was quite a step in a matured direction to an already matured band. With this album, very consistent and heart wrenching in tone, The National has now found a solid voice and their place in the zeitgeist.
C.D.F. - About timeFinally a nationals cd that has more then 2 good songs on it. Maybe it's because they learned how to write chorus'!!!
play, memory - AverageNo High Violet, No Boxer, and certainly No Alligator. For that matter, I think Sad Songs For DIrty Lovers may be superior to Trouble Will Find Me. The problem starts with the title itself: "Trouble Will Find Me???" What is this -- an R&B album? Trite title. The music isn't TERRIBLE. In fact, lyrically and the straight forward songwriting may make it more accessible than their other albums. I would recommend Boxer for first time listeners and then move on to their high water mark, Alligator.
I think National fans will find things to appreciate, but I think many will be disappointed. I'm not a fan of the simpleized lyrics. The problem is, there will be a a lot of first-time listeners who will deprived of a finer introduction to one of the superior bands of the past decade.
danpolov - Staying the PathNot my favorite National album, but some of the somgs were instant favorites. Sae of Love, Humiliation, and I Should Live in Salt, Graceless are excellent. This is the Last Time will haunt you. Notable tracks are Don't Swallow the Cap, Demons, I Need My Girl. A solid product following two excellent LPs.
Biwa22 - Repetitive (not in a good way)I really wanted to like this album, but the band developed a formula and then repeated it over and over again throughout. Lyrically and musically stagnant. The comparison to Nick Cave is superficially apt, but there just doesn't seem to be as much artistry.
afranco - Album of the YearLove the National and a majority of their work. Their latest is a bit quieter than High Violet but it is calming and great for those traffic filled commutes to and from work.
Bobinsky - EpicA beautiful album full of haunting melodies. 'Slipped' is one of the most gorgeous and emotional songs I've ever heard. Believe the hype, this is a band at the top of their game.
Fake umpire - Amazing live tooCaught The National live days after this album was released. As longtime fan, I love this album. It lives up to the high bar previous albums have set.
CharmingCharles2896 - BEST ALBUM YET!!!!!Far and away the best album they have ever released. every track is simply incredable.
met56 - terrible.yikes! awful worst album
Nathaniel Cooper - PhenomenalAbsolutely perfect reprise from High Violet. Wonderful album all the way through.
italianscandal - Worth the wait!Solid album! I have always been a national fan, and have loved to see how the band continues to evolve album after album.
Samalanigids - Exceeds expectationsI've been following The National for eight years -- literally. After I heard their first few albums I was hooked and planned a trip in '07 to Boston around their Cambridge performance because I never thought they'd make it to the Midwest. Happily, I was proven wrong and have now seen them twice in KC and Austin. This album takes The National to yet another plane -- you cannot listen to this album and not feel happy, sad, nostalgic, worried, etc. The words, music and delivery will grab hold of your emotions and not let go. Be prepared for the ride.
Laredo79360 - Worth the wait!Matt's upper range elevates this album to a whole new level. The album gets better every time I listen to it. Lyrically just amazing!
