OH thank god smoke on the water is not an album only song, i love it.
The greatest live album ever recorded, 20 min. Space Truckin, Child In Time, everyone in america had this in the 70's Richie Blackmore is a guitar pickin God
Wow. This i a must have for every single rock fan on earth. One of the best live albums outs there in the world. Ritchie Blackmore is a guitar god. After listening to Highway Star, Black Night, and Child In Time, and Lazy, I am amazed. He makes George Harrison's guitar playing sound like Billie Joe Armstrong. What can I say? He is amazin. Like that guy said, hes one of the best, next to Hendrix and Jimmy Page. Jon Lord is also an awesome keyboardest. He rocks my socks off. I think he IS the best keyboardest ever, after listening to Lazy(Live) and Highway Star. What a great keyboard guy. Roger Glover(great bassist), Ian Paice(The Mule, he plays like Neil Peart), and Ian Gillian(Awesome vocals in every damn song) they rock too. Deep Purple is an all out great band. This album makes other Live albums look like they were made by Barbie. Rock on Deep Purple. May the purple never go away(okay, I know, that sounded lame.) As they always say, "You can be smart, but have a butt for a face."
Raw Power..The ultimate guitar God....Way ahead of his time...this album rocks....If you can't appreciate this...you don't really have a clue....If you don't think this is incredible, you need to listen to the Go-gos....Hate it for you..
One of the best albums of all time! Every song on this album is better than the version released on the orginal albums. Highway Star and Strange Kind of Woman rocks! Classic Deep Purple.
there's really not much else to say.
No was was not there.. but I lived through it when it happened. I grew up in Japan. (I am 49) and met people who were there. There is a "bootleg" collection of all 3 shows in which this album was recorded. Who would listen to different shows of same material? I would. You can "see" this innocent Japanse audience was dumb folded - toward the end of extended jam on space trucking - Which is basically Mandrake Root - after Richie does his tremolo effect with feedback and does ala Host planets theme the band stops. I according to eye witness, Richie threw his guitar up high during the pause - and caught it. Audience thought for a moment it was end of the song. and you can here some hand clapping. NOT... they come back for full-on Jam... finishing off with Jon Lords Hammond Feed back, as the hammond drops to lower note and "finish" the song - there is a silence. audience doesn't know whether to applause or expect more. and then hand clap begans... of cource it was a standing ovation. It was only one of many moments in this album
If you are looking for a break from Rap or Punk, or if you are old enough to remember this classic, you are in for a treat if you buy this Album. The new mastering sounds amazing, much better than the original recordings. The raw energy and INCENDIARY musicianship are awe inspiring and still impressive 34 years later.I still remember sitting in my older Brothers room listening to this in amazement for hours in 1973. This is one of the top 5 live Albums ever. Buy it Now!
Wow… this CD is incredible. I’m in high school, so I’m constantly surrounded with everyone who’s listening to the “hot new thing.” If I can get any point across to those people, I hope it’s that this music is the real good stuff. I don’t want people to think that I’m bashing the other things (I like a lot of it), but I am saying that if you are in the mood for classic, powerful, and truly kick-A rock music, then look no further than Deep Purple and especially this extreme performance, Made in Japan. This is by far some of the best music I’ve heard in my life.
Made in Japan is probably the greatest live rock album of all time. It has a lot of Deep Purple's classic hits. Definitely buy this if you are a rock fan. All the songs came out right and it is very good sounding.
It's hard to remember now that in those days "live" albums were not taken seriously. Usually, a band produced a live album in order to fulfill its commitment to produce a certain number of albums for a record label. This is the album that changed all that. The performances on this record quite simply stunned people and changed forever the way live albums were viewed. And with good reason. The playing on this album is awe-inspiring. The thing that makes Blackmore unique is his ability to convey more than just technique in a guitar solo. Listen to the solo on "Child in Time"; it is probably the best rock guitar solo EVER recorded. You can HEAR the emotion of the song in his playing. The tension just builds and builds. It's so frenzied, that even though he clearly drops a note toward the end, it doesn't matter. You've heard a master tell a story without saying a word. What other guitarist can do that? And Gillan. They've said that he was hired because they wanted someone who could compete with Robert Plant. I love Zep, but I cannot think of even one song that Plant sings better than anything Gillan has sung on this album. Unfortunately, Purple has never put out another live album as good as this. I suppose that's not SO terrible; nobody else has, either. Buy it. No self-respecting hard rock fan should be without it. One star deducted for "The Mule". Drum solos don't work on records.
Glad to see "Made In Japan" made its way to iTunes, takes me back to my teenage years. I remember purchasing this album in the mid 1970's, pressed on translucent yellow vinyl. (Unfortunatly lost somewhere in the past 30+ years.) This is a 'recorded live' album that should be added to any rock afficinados collection.
Well people what can i say, this is -"Thee"-"Number 1"-"Best period"-"Untouchable" live album EVER!!!!. If you though you heard great musicians before, this will blow your brain straight out your head, you cannot possibly compare the precisedness, quality, hell- quantity, rawness, marvelous sounds, etc etc. etc etc of this album with no other, sure, hendrix in monterey is great, or you may say"what about-"The Song Remains The Same!!??" if you know music, rock or any kind of music 4 that matter, matter of fact if you are a musician then you would be force to agree that nothing or no one could come even close to Deep Purple on this album. i mean "Space Truking"?? 19 mins..are you kidding me???!!! who can play like that??? Mozart is dead, ok?? "Lazy"???? come on , "Strange Kind of woman"???? who do you think Heavy Metal band's Singers got their vocal inspiration from??? Robert Plant??? think twice.. Stop delaying the process.... get this album now!!!!
This is a very good album if you are looking 4 really awsome live songs to listen to. Ian Peirce is one of the best drummers i have eva listened 2. worth ur money, buy it!
Ritchie Blackmore is one of the best guitarists of all time if you dont believe that you are really stupid Ritchie would easily make it in the top ten guitarists next to Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and so on If you think Slash from Guns"N"Roses is better you should go cut yourself Slash is a poser smoker he looks like hes getting high off a cig on the back of his cd's
This album is a testament to the amazing talent of each of these musicians and a reminder of how they've never gotten the credit they deserved for their contributions to pushing the envelope of rock music. Not convinced of this by what you hear on this "album" then just check out Ian Gillian's work as Jesus in the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar and then listen for its echoes in every hard rock vocal laid down since.
"the Mule" is a monster of a drum solo. One of the best drum solo's caught on tape. Ian, keep laying it down.
This is one of the best $10 I've ever spent! Ritchie Blackmore is an excellent impoviser in music, and did a magnifiscent job in this album. You really gotta buy the whole thing for the big jams. There's over an hour and a half of music, and while Ritchie shreds the guitar, Ian Gillan is screaming his lungs out at the audience. Great hardcore classic rock. Especially if you've heard some of Deep Purple's stuff, and you want to get into them, this would be the best album to start with, its got all their best songs, unlike "machine Head" which is still great, but its still missing a few. But still, who cares? If you like this, THEN go buy the others. But over all, if you like Deep Purple, this is a must have entire album. If your really forced to buy one song, get "Strange Kind of Woman", which is a really really awesome jam.
This album makes me feel like I am 22 years old, standing in a smoky crowd in front of the stage at the Budokan in 1979. Wearing long hair passed my shoulders, tight bell bottom trousers and a thin mustache.
Made In Japan is harder, faster, and heavier than the studio recordings. They sound a lot better in my opinion. If you're a fan of Deep Purple, you will love this album. It features extended versions of some great songs you already like. This album is just too good for words, as my CD won't even function anymore. Do yourself a favor, buy Made In Japan.
