- Wow

Definitely worth a listen.....or 100.

- Loving it

Fantastic

- do caralho

vai tomar no cu isso ai é bom demais come to brazil safados

- Rock is back!!!

This album is like if you made love to an angel while simultaneously winning a nobel peace prize, while jumping over a canyon full of venomous snakes while hive fiving Abraham Lincoln riding a jet ski. It's pretty F**** good. The band has evolved into a riff oriented, face melting solo, groove rock powerhouse. GET this album!

- Kind of sounds like another 'The Hunter'

I just listened to the stream and honestly, i was slightly disappointed, but not too surprised. I was hoping that they wouldn't continue w/ the sound they had in the hunter but that's probably not the popular opinion. i liked their heavier, more technical older albums, like blood mountain and leviathan. my fav was crack the skye tho. they experimented more on that 1, and i was kind of hoping they'd try it again w/ this album, but maybe next time.

- Still waiting for a bad Mastodon record

I guess I’m not used to a band that I love putting out consistently great records but mastodon has really proved me wrong. The song writing on this record is so different than anything they’ve ever done, vocally and atmospheric. Songs like Asleep In The Deep just move me in a such a way that can’t be described by language. My other favorite tracks thus far are Tread lightly, which is such an amazing opening track and one of the best mastodon songs ever.. also the best opening since Oblivion I think. The Motherload brings a whole new vocal approach to the band and opens up yet another new territory for the band as well. The whole record is great.. Just give it a listen, this has a potential to be their best record but I can’t say for sure now.

- Excellence

If you hate on this album you shouldn't of bought it

- Not impressed, but not disappointed enough to hate it

I did not find this album to be even remotely comparable, to something like crack the skye, but Its not horrible enough for me to rate it lower than three stars. I’m hoping that they will work harder on their next album. seriously lets try a bit harder next time. thanks for the early listen by the way.

- The Hunter part 2

However you felt about the Hunter, is how you'll feel about this album. Not a fan of the pop metal direction. Listen before you buy.

- 👍's up

👍X1,000

- All good things must come to an end........

Pretty unimpressed by this release. I'm fine with some pop in metal but this is just too weak for me. The heaviness has left Mastodon in this album. The drums are too quiet in the mix as well. Guitars still sound great! I have been a huge fan from the beginning but this is just too soft for me. I'm surprised of these reviews honestly. Maybe they can get that guy from Maroon 5 to sing on the next installment! Very dissapointing...

- The New Mentors of Metal!

I have been listening to metal since the early 80’s. I can honestly say these guys are game changers. Bands like this don’t come around often. Buy it! crank it up, and listen to it in it’s entirety. You will not be disappointed. Great Job! Epic!

- The King Of The Hill

Great album. Never the same with this band. Always put out wat they feel is heavy metal and I agree. Love the band and album.

- After listening to the leak

Once More 'Round the Sun was leaked within the past day or so, and I've had today to enjoy it and get to know the songs. This is just an initial thought on the album and my opinion may change after more listens. Production and mastering won't be taken into consideration since this is a leak. The album's good, but I'm not blown away so far. In fact, there are a few parts of the album where I didn't feel captivated by the songs like previous albums did for me on initial listens. Aunt Lisa and Ember city are my least favorite, while Chimes at Midnight, Asleep in the Deep and The Motherload are my favorites. I don't feel this lives up to what I expected after The Hunter, and it's definitely not as good as Crack the Skye (won't need further listening to know that). But it's a solid album that should grow on me just like The Hunter. OH, and it's NOT "The Hunter 2". It has its own Mastodon flavor, it doesn't feel like an extension of The Hunter at all. June/13/14

- STREAMING

Listening to the album now before its released. They have no lost their touch. this album is vicious in the best ways possible

- Love

It

- This Album Is My New Favorite Besides Blood Mountain

Oh my god. Mastodon is getting better with every record they release. The concept albums like Blood Mountain, as stated before as my favorite album, was great. For them to get away from that starting with The Hunter, I was like alright, this album is okay. And then I saw the FirstPlay stream for this, and I said to myself I need to do it. Low and behold, this album blew me away! The guitar solos are much more thought out and are pretty great, Brann Dailor is an excellent drummer and he has never let me down when I want to just outright groove and feel the music. Troy Sanders' bass can actually be heard on the record! Unlike The Hunter, his bass lines stand out so crisply it's insane! This album is mixed much better than The Hunter ever could, and I'm very proud for Mastodon innovating their sound and creating an instant masterpiece! I can't wait to see what the future holds for one of the world's greatest metal bands as of now! I don't care if you think they are selling out, because they don't have one single fiber in them to do something like that. Go Mastodon!

- No boundaries

This band has and always will be a huge inspiration to my own compositions. They've managed to keep it interesting and unique from one album to the next without dumbing it down or "selling out". Sure, they've added much more melody and structure to the writing, but they've definitely held on to the raw energy they started out with. Already looking forward to the next masterpiece!

- mastodon still rule

I have been fortunate to have heard the whole thing and plan on buying it when its released. Ive loved all their work since 2004 and this album is really awesome!! some people have been ripping on this based on "high road" or "chimes" i guess?? true at first listen i was not sure about it but a lot of my favorite albums i didnt like at first right? after 2nd and 3rd it really sank in and now I have to limit myself cuz Im gonna burn myself out on it...love how Mastodon have tweaked their sound around through the years--who wants to hear their bands just roll out carbon copies of their previous work? if youre a true fan of these guys I think you will dig on it just as I do. I think its all killer but standouts for me are "The Motherload",the title track, "Asleep In the Deep", "Feast Your Eyes", and "Ember City"..like I said though its all good stuff...IT FEELS GOOD LOUD TOO!!! If you love them get it and if you want to try something new this guys are a good way to go...

- So good White Trash Calling it Bad

Hard pressed to think of an album or band that's been this good on a consistant basis, but I'm sure everyone that was upset Creed broke up will disagree and say rotten things about this album....all in all my expectations as a Mastodon fan have been fulfilled and excited to listen to it all day

- 👍

Amazing

- Extremely Bland

Mastodon is one of my favorite bands. I like their heavy stuff, their mellow stuff, and even their catchy melodic stuff. I enjoyed The Hunter, even though it got varying reviews. Once More 'Round the Sun is their weakest album to date as far as my enjoyment in listening to it. It's a good album, but nothing special. There are definitely advances in all of their respective musical abilities showcased here, but after about four solid runs through this, very few tracks are memorable. I hate to say it, because I love these guys, but this album is disappointing. I also feel like the iTunes version of this feels very muddy, and has had all the punch mixed out.

- Mastodon does it again

ANOTHER AMAZING ALBUM! Cant wait for the to tour this album

- Brilliant!

This is by and far the most soulful venture in the entire catalog and by no means am I saying that it isn’t heavy. The album breathes, the instruments have amazing tone thru-ought, the band is tight and the entire album is mixed perfectly. One would be hard pressed to find this kind of musicianship in the likes of a pop album. If one has been paying attention, then one would know that Mastodon is forging ahead in lands that bands like the Floyd and Yes pioneered and planting the seeds of Metal there.

- Not Leviathan Pt. 2, and that's ok...

I love Mastodon's older albums. I also love Blood Mountain (the first time people cried sell-out), Crack the Skye (when people thought they had lost it), and The Hunter (sell-out redux). I've never had a problem with a band exploring different sounds and styles. That's what GOOD bands do, they don't stay stagnant and keep churning out different iterations of the same album. Rush ran into the same issue after Hemispheres, their most complex and technically challenging album. They reached a point where everything was so difficult they couldn't keep it up and enjoy what they were doing. So they released Permanent Waves, an awesome album that happened to be easier on the ear. That's what Mastodon ran into after Crack the Skye, and they gave us The Hunter, and now Once More 'Round the Sun. This may be more accessible, but pop metal is just isn't. This is much more complex and sophisticated, especially in chord progressions and technical skill, than the crap you hear on the radio. There are always going to be stubborn "fans" that won't be happy until Mastodon go back to screaming and write something that fits their idea of what Mastodon is, but wouldn't that be the real sell-out? To abandon where they feel they want to go with THEIR music and try and please the old guard? I for one will judge each album on its own instead of compared to what came before, and this album still rocks hard and satisfies my need for good, honest heavy metal, and I salute Mastodon for sticking to their guns and being honest to themselves!

- Higher Road

So go ahead. Buy it already. This band has never disappointed

- Simply put

This album is amazing. Little classic rock, whole lot of chugging metal, and some prog psychedelia along the way. Builds off their past while nudging towards a more nuanced shift in style. If you like their stuff, you would be disappointed.

- Awesome

Listened to the first play on itunes, just fantastic

- Best of 2014

Amazing album!! Got my copy last night at their pre-release listening party where we got to mingle with Mastodon. Not a single filler tune to be found. Please buy yourself a copy!

- Mastodon has done it again

I began listening to Mastodon when Crack the Skye released, and they quickly became my favorite band. Since then, I’ve picked up every thing Mastodon has ever released. One thing Mastodon is known for is that they always evolve and come out with something unexpected, while still staying true to their sludge/psychedelic roots. The Hunter was perhaps their weakest release if only for the fact that they dropped almost any form of “concept” for a more streamlined experience. Still, The Hunter is one of the best hard rock albums to release from any band in the last ten years. I was, however, a bit concerned that Once More Around The Sun would bring Mastodon further into this more streamlined experience. I’m happy to say that Mastodon, once again, has surprised me. Once More Around the Sun is definitely closer to The Hunter then it is to Crack the Skye, however, it overflows with the sludgy, psychedelic riffs of Blood Mountain, Leviathan and even Remission in some areas. The vocals are melodic and beautiful. Seriously, these guys have been taking singing lessons or something because they sound incredible. Each track carries its own identity, however, as with any great album, I can’t pick a single track that I enjoy more then another. This album is an experience that must be enjoyedfrom front to back during each listen. Once More Around The Sun truly is an incredible achievement, and it has quickly moved to the forefront of my music catalog, and it belongs in yours as well. Once More Around The Sun is another excellent release from Mastodon, and it has a distinct and powerful enough identity to stand side by side with everything Mastodon has released to this point. Additionally, I really enjoy how the albums ends with a darker, heavier tone. Perhaps this is a sample of what to expect from their upcoming Winter EP...

- Better than Hunter.

Solid album. Great riffs. Lots of hook. I thought Hunter was a stinker but they moved in the right direction with this one. Lots of Thin Lizzy tones and a couple Faith No More ripoffs, but the songs are good and the guitars are crazy. Vocals weak at times or else I would have given 5 stars. My favorite song on the album is Ember City.

- Please stop singing

It sounds like ozZy and Jon Davis had a baby. Please put a pacifier in its mouth. This is hard to listen thru. So awful

- New Fan :-)

This new recording is brilliant (and NOT POP METAL). For whatever reason I could not really appreciate previous Mastodon releases. This new release has many dimensions, lots of depth and new layers within the music are discovered with each listen. I have had it playing all day on 'First Play'.

- Once more an Excellent Mastodon Album

If I could, I'd give this 4.75 stars because it is yet another stellar Mastodon album. The only thing that keeps this from being 5 stars in my book is that there is too much singing from Brann Dailor, the drummer. I have liked his singing in their previous work, but his voice in "The Motherload" for example is a bit like nails on a chalk board to my ears. I prefer Troy Sanders and Brent Hinds on vocals with Brann only making a couple of appearances. Favorite songs so far are Tread Lightly and Asleep in the Deep.

- Unholy Cysquatch!!!

As a supporter of all Mastodon albums, and any new direction they may be taking, this album is still very Mastodonic. I just finished listening to the whole album twice though on first-play and it is awesome. There is an amazing mind twisting, evil, psychosis that in my opinion is the only major recurring element to any Mastodon album. I love this because they can explore many musical styles while still freakin' me the F@#k out. I can see myself in 35 years braggin to my grandchildren that I saw Mastodon evolve into this possessed monster of metal that they are!!!!

- Amazing Album

Was never a fan of there older stuff, not until blood mountain did I get into them. it was just too much screaming. which is funny since I liek melodic death metal but w.e lol. I love the current sound they have since crack the skye. Also how is it pop? Power Metal is huge in europe and its not pop. hell Most Heavy metal, Priest, Maiden, Iced Earth etc etc are very melodic not just nonsensical thrashing with unintelligable vocals. Are they pop? hell no! Theyre Heavy Friggin Metal!!!!

- Amazing album!

Progression is natural and Mastodon have taken their music in a new direction. This album is amazing and I will be listening to it for many years to come!

- itunes lame offering on a great record.

great record, by a great band. No digital package with lyrics, pics, artwork...lame very lame itunes...i should have bought the non-"green" friendly version of the CD and had the artwork...that is part of the charm of this great band. buyer beware! If you love Mastodon, don't buy this on iTunes, go to your neighborhood record/cd store...itunes has made purchasing music very sterile.

- MASTOAWESOME

This reminds me a little of Blood Mountain but with more vocals. Has a Melvin's vibe to it as well. This is everything they have ever done all in one. Very fun album! A must have for fans of them or the genre.

- What's this feeling... Is it... Child-like Wonderment...

The writing, instuments, atmosphere, EVERYTHING shines on this album. Every Mastodon album has always run on killer riffs, and this has got riffs for days. Most of the songs have plenty of "blood and thunder" to keep older fans coming back.(Chimes at Midnight, Ember City). The shred factor on this album is high too (Feast Your Eyes, High Road). Brann Dailor's drumming feels warm and clean, evolving into an eight-armed monster and launches the songs into next week (Aunt Lucy). The hand-off lyrics between Troy Sanders, Brent Hinds, and Dailor are the highlight for me (The Motherload, Tread Lightly). Although they have moved away from the harsher vocals of previous efforts, you can tell each song was lovingly and carefully crafted with the vocals in mind. Overall, the amazment i felt when i popped this baby in doesn't come close to any other album. Although Crack the Skye is my personal favorite, this is easily their best effort. Mastodon is no longer the brooding, crushing behemoth it once was, but now a much more deadly, clever, cunning creature that beats with the same heart as the previous entity.

- NOT Pop Metal

No one ever said that Metal had to be devoid of all melody, with completely unintelligeable lyrics. Remember the song that coined the phrase "heavy metal"? Yeah sure you do. Give every nuance a shot and you might be surprised what you like.

- !Incredible!

That is all

- Max volume

Turn it up to max volume and get your world rocked in a way that only Mastodon can accomplish. Killer album!

- So f**king good

There so good I want them to put an album out every year ! Great tight and heavy sounds .

- amazing

i liked high road a lot. not so much chimes at midnight at first. i love this band because each album is different and not the same thing every album. i've listened to this band since call of the mastodon. never fail to impress me.

- All Hail

I rate the album art on this 5 stars All Hail SKINNERRR

- Best yet

This is their best album yet. Catchy guitar melodies ring out in every song, making this a beautiful yet crushingly heavy album. The vocals are his best yet as well, once again incorporating more melody into their sound. Mastodon has always been great, but they had a tendency to be somewhat bland and repetitive during some songs on past albums. Going back in my song list, I found that the most popular songs from Mastodon have always incorporated catchy riffs and a cleaner sound vocally. This is a great album.

- Greatest release of 2014 so far

Mastodon never let's me down! Such talent! So underrated ! Anyone who doesn't like this album has no taste what so ever! Buy this album and you won't regret it!

- Aw Snap!

I can't lie, I've been a heavy Mastodon fan since Leviathan (in my opinion their best album) and have heard them progress ever since. I honestly am liking how they've been developing their sound, they keep a lot of their old style while adding those new elements here and there to help evolve with the times, which you definitely have to give them credit for cause a lot of bands at that level they're at usually completely dish out their entire foundations just to come up with new tricky sounds just to catch the audience. Needless to say Mastodon has never thought to do such a thing. With that being said, after previewing "High Road" I can't wait to here the rest of album. It sounds like it's going to come out great. I honestly think it will surpass their last album "The Hunter", it could very well be one of their best projects out of their whole collection, however that has yet to be seen.

- Buy it.

No, they may not be as heavy as they used to but, they, as artist can go in any musical direction they like. This album is incredible. It sounds like they are running in a forest while processing the emotions of a severe heartbreak. I've loved Remission all the way to OMRTS and this, in the way the elemental concepts did, creates it's own sound. Also, hands down the BEST overall performance by Troy Sanders. Buy it. No matter what direction Mastodon is going, they do it right.
