All these people complaining about the style of the different artists and how Metallica “sold out” (ironically, on the one album everyone criticizes them for selling out on) need to grow up and listen to some more styles of music. Almost every metal musician out there is heavily influenced by music other than metal. This album was great
Volbeat and Chris Stapleton are the only two out of the park covers. I like Jon Pardi’s cover, it could’ve been better, but sounds better than the other stuff and he’s not a libtard.
This is……odd. I get what they are doing. I like Ghost’s version. Miley Cyrus. Yeah, she now sounds like the old, cigarette lady in The Memory Remains. While the thought is admirable, the execution of these songs are questionable. Metallica’s songs are amazing and really cannot be altered and these covers are interpretations that are different. Metallica has entered the “George Lucas remastering Star Wars” of their career. They’re immensely successful so they are toying with what made them great. At the end of it all, it gets an….EH.
This is straight garbage. St. Anger is better than this money grabbing concept "album".
I’m giving this five stars to offset the absurd amount of one star ratings saying nothing more than “this is trash.” First of all that’s not at all constructive, and second, you can’t really rate an album such as this. It’s covers from many artists of different genres and styles, and unless you like all the artists on here, you shouldn’t really be rating it. What I’ve heard so far is well done and a nice tribute to a great album.
I love everybody’s different interpretation of all the different songs it is great to hear the classics from other peoples point of view and how they feel about it it really opens up your mind to different types of music. I saw Metallica live in 1986 in San Francisco as an opening band. 35 years I’ve been listening to Metallica. This stuff is great.
After cliff burton passed song writing was toast!
First, How fantastic that all the money made for this album is going to charities! Why all the Negativity? As someone who loves music it’s a treat to hear Metallica’s songs performed by different artists in their personal style and genre. Stop looking for and focusing on what you find negative about everything and instead look for and celebrate the positive.
Gotta say I liked the Royal Blood cover
I just wanted to give 5 stars to upset all the gatekeeping blowhards mad about this album. May their tears act as lube while they continue to get off on Cliff’s one bass solo.
Literally the only one I liked that I heard. Corey Taylor rules!
Garbage
I love the music not a huge fan of Metallica’s singing but this is a very creative album
I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I think these are varied, artistic and interesting interpretations of some great songs. If you don’t like covers, you don’t like covers but, if you do, this album is a great collection.
This album is definitely The Thing That Should Not Be period.
Not one, not two, not even three but SIX different cover versions of Sandman. In case you haven't heard that song enough in your life.
Metallica did this because cleary they wanted to see what artists outside their Metal/Rock world could do. It's really a testament to how open minded they are as a group and how iconic them, and this album was. I think it's amazing. People on here B&*tchin and moaning about it not being rock...well no Sh*t. To hear the likes of Flatbush Zombies and J Balvin covering some of the greatest Metal songs is honestly the coolest thing. I loved the unique takes on the songs, and I loved that they brought so many different cultures and styles to showcase. It wasn't meant to "just another metal album." It certainly wasn't meant to showcase new and upcoming artists either. Corey Taylor, Chris Stapleton, Wheezer, Miley Cyrus and Elton John (to name a few)? Not newbies to game here. Either listen with an open mind to other styles or stop complaining and whining and go back to the orginals.
This is pretty good, thought i wouldn’t like these artists doing covers of these songs, but they’re not bad, though i wish they included Master of Puppets
Covers are fun, this album is cool. It's not an attack on your hair or wardrobe that Weezer shredded a Metallica tune.
Open mind for a different view! Love you Metallica + Miley! <3<3
Haters will hate. All these artists are great and with much respect to Metallica. I see all the stupid folks hear that don’t have an understanding of what a cover is and what this album was about. You have some of the best artsiest of today from multiple genres paying respect. They too are fans of Metallica like many of us and you the dummies leaving bad reviews for no reason.
Ouch
Let’s not kid ourselves. We all know their music career peaked decades ago. They’re essentially a greatest hits act now. Nobody goes to see them play new material. It seems like after they sobered up, they became more like businessmen than musicians. Oh well, everything runs it’s course eventually.
Love The Warning. I recommend you stream them! This was such a great opportunity for them!
Some of y’all must mot know that all the profits go to charity, this isn’t for attention or more money or anything like that. Tbh there are some really good covers on this album
Boooooooooooooooooooo
Volbeat had the best cover
I can see how some might think this album is a sin, but if you just chill and listen there’s some really cool stuff. I would love to see other bands get this treatment in the future.
So great to hear all these various and perspectives on so solid Metallic!!! Great fun!!!
Love the Cage The Elephant remake of The Unforgiven and it’s a great idea to get different artists to create their own version of some classics.
Total disaster why would they want to do this? Are they struggling with coming out with an actual new ablum with new music. They are doing this crap?
All the profits go to charity, so let’s simmer down. I don’t love all the covers, but some are pretty slick. Jason Isbell made “Sad but True” into an upbeat psychobilly (well sort of) good time.
Unnecessary
This is great. I mean, GHOST??? some of the renditions are fantastic. How could you not like this album? Elton John on piano?? Sit back, relax, take a deep breath and just listen. It’s pretty cool hearing other musicians put in their two cents on such a legendary band. The cherry on top would have been Barbara Streisand doing Seek and Destroy, but it got cut from the album at the last minute (that’s a joke y’all).
I love the fact this album was even contemplated let alone that it came to fruition. I don’t love all the songs on the album but I rarely love all the songs on an album. I thought it was a great twist on some of my favorite songs and I loved hearing with some of these awesome artists did with them! Well done!
It's quite original. This band is always inovating and creating new perspectives of 🤘 Metal genre.
The band “Ghost” was my least favorite… The lead singer had a very nasally voice and sounded smarmy and whiny. You should go ahead and give it a listen though… I do love covers, but the recipe for a good cover band is that they retain a little bit of the flavor from the original musicians intentions while adding their own touch to the song. good job adding the Hu and Darius Rucker, though. They, and Corey Taylor are the only good artists on this… But that’s only my opinion
Only and The Hu are the good cover on the album. Only two worth the stars.
I've been listening to Metallica for a long time. Their albums are unique, even some of the artists who have covered their songs are great (Nothing Else Matters is my absolute favorite song, the covers are ver very good). But this album is terrible. What is this even? Its not Metallica. Its a terrible cover of some of their iconic songs.
Some Great Covers of Classic Metallica songs!!!
If I could zero star I would! STOP letting horrible artists sing Metallica. Awful!
I think this is great to here other artists and there sound of great music and if your a turn Metallica fan there should be no complaints and it’s for charity makes it so much better
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Nothing here worth the $$$ old stuff changed up expecting us to buy it. To lazy to come out with some new stuff but want there hands in our wallets….. I wouldn’t buy it at $10.00 try again
Sure, some of the tracks aren’t for me, but those that I don’t like, my wife likes and so I have a great album that we can both listen to and enjoy for what it is. Is this a Metallica album? No. It’s a very interesting tribute album with multiple artists interpreting the different tracks on the black album. I think my favorite is through the never by The Hu. Very cool! But yeah, if you are looking for Metallica doing their own black album… then maybe just buy the black album remastered… it’s excellent too, but if you are open minded and want to enjoy something a bit different while familiar. This may be the album for you!
Wayyyy to much money!!
These previews are ROUGH. I can appreciate entertainers loving these classics enough to try their hand at covering them but one thing they all lack is the emotion that James brings to every word of his lyrics! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it 🤷🏻♀️
48 bucks??????? The same 12 songs over and over again played by who?????
So sad…I remember when Metallica used to rock! Miley Cyrus sounds like a guy trying to imitate Stevie Nicks
As a former musician, I will never tire of hearing one artist’s interpretation of another artist’s work… and especially when that original work is itself such a masterpiece, and it’s testament to the caliber of the source material that they could make this album in the first place. So how does it work out? Some of the cross-genre renditions are excellent (looking at you, Miley and Ha-Ash), others are more straightforward covers (weezer)… and some just don’t work at all (Juanes is just terrible). UPDATE - now that the full album is out, I can see why they pre-released most of the ones they did. There are more weak links than were exposed originally. Keeping at 4 stars based on the strength of the high points, and being for charity.
