It’s seems Kathleen is no longer active but I miss her she had such a lovely voice. Mr Marsalis is a superb trumpeter and a top jazz artist but I think he is at his best in the classical genre. Miles Davis had a loose cool style but Marsalis is very precise making him the perfect choice for classical. I’ve loved this album for many years
How can you not love this album. The Baroque composers such as Scarlatti, Bach, Handel truly love Kathleen Battle's voice as does so many composres before and since. The opening song " Let the Bright Seraphim" is truly a pulsating delight. Wynton's classical trumpet playing is a beautiful complement to Katleen's fluttering melismas and acoustic power. Arie Con Tromba Sola No. 1 is truly a show case of the Kathleen's voice as truly instrumental. Her warbles are sick! The ending with Bach canatas are truly masterful and uplifting. Wynton displays true gifts on his three solo trumpet pieces with orchestra. Please taste a beautifully crafted baroque treat!
I love this album! I have listened to it several times over and I deeply enjoy it every time. I listened to it both with focus, and slightly muted in the background while working! It just so gently pampers the ears and mind, it is pure pleasure to listen. The richnes of the music and the beautiful trills make me wish the album just kept playing. Perhaps I should set it on repeat as background music for office work.
Pop and dance music was my thing in the 80s, and 90s, then one day I was in a tower records passing through the classical section when I heard this voice and trumpet, I’m like what is this I’m hearing? I’ve gone from Tina Turner to Kathleen Battle, the sound of Ms. Battle’s voice, I closed my eyes and let my mind ride through heaven. I bought Baroque Duet, discovered Baroque, Bach and Battle and never looked back.
