- Awesome memories!

Back in the day I wore out more than one cassette of this album while driving my car on the LIE. "Summer Highland Falls" all these years later, remains one of my all time favorite pieces of music.

- Near perfect collection

This is nearly the identical album I would've made if I were choosing the songs from this era in Joel's career. The only change I would make is swap out Los Angelenos for Vienna, then it would've been a perfect album for me. Still a GREAT!! collection.

- Awsome

Los Angelenos and Streetlife Serenader are two great songs that i never knew about before i listened to this album.

- At his peak with his sound

The one thing I remember about this album in particular was all of the "inside baseball" stuff he wrote about each song, the band, and what it meant to him. I suppose it would be difficult to put copies of all of the liner notes on here, but fairly easy to find on the web.

- A must own for any real Billy fan

Insane live album. Brings back frenetic memories of my HS years, especially We've Loved These Days (my prom theme). IMHO, One of the best live albums of all time. A steal for $7.99.

- Great way to go back from The Stranger

I picked "Songs" up after The Stranger and after Glass Houses many, many years ago. I was a casual Billy Joel fan, but the early material sounded so full and strong on this record. I went right back to where it all came from. Turns out I actually like most of these versions better than the originals!

- Don't mistake this for a fans-only obscure live album: this is a BJ and rock CLASSIC. A must-have.

The title of this review says most of it. This is a classic rock masterpiece. Background: BJ did not enjoy instant fame. He only became huge in the late 70s after releasing 5 albums. Whent he world went BJ-crazy, he decided it might be a good idea to release a live album featuring the lesser-known best tracks from his earlier albums from the mid-70s. These live albums far surpass the original studio versions for energy, musicianship and liveliness. Really, it's one of the best live rock albums ever. It's definitely an upbeat rock album, not a soft rock or ballad affair. BJ and his band play like madmen in front of small and medium-sized crowds rather than stadiums. It's virtually a "greatest hits 1973-76 live," except that these are the best versions of these songs. THIS is the version of Say Goodbye to Hollywood that made the famous greatest hits album. This is also the version of She's Got a Way that became famous on the radio. Sample tracks 1, 4, 8, and 11 if you're still unconviced. This is a perfect album.

- His Best

This is a must have in your collection. It is the best live album ever. And in the top 3 of B Joel's best ever albums. Every song here performed live is better than the original and some are epic like "Streetlife Serenade" and "Miami 2017". I was 17 when I bought the 8 track and I proceeded to wear it out... Buy it - the man is a genius.

- Totally incredible

It's amazing to listen to this again after many years. Billy Joel totally rocks out on this live album. If you're new to Billy Joel, buy this instead of Greatest Hits or any "essential" list. It doesn't capture the entire catalog, nor is it representative of his later work, but the raw power of the performance is amazing. Many of today's bands should listen to this as an example of how a live concert should sound.

- 5 Stars

I bought this cassette in the bargain bin at the local music store 20 years ago. This was like finding gold in a huge pile of sand. To this day , I have not gotten sick of listenining to this album. This is the perfect blend of great song writing , passionate performances ,and a very talented band. I was a casual Billy Joel fan until I heard this. One of my favorite albums of all time.

- Better Live

I prefer these live versions of the songs over those of the studio tracks. The song Los Angelinos is amazing live in comparison with the studio track. This is a great set of songs to have from his earliest work. I only wish I had seen him in concert back then.

- songs in the attic

AWESOME!!!!

- Yesterday and Today

I was a huge fan of this album when it was first released. I was a teen then and loved it- I had to, I was a teenager from LI! But I recently downloaded and listened again and was totally blown away by the musicianship and quality production. billy Joel is an excellent craftsman when it comes to song writing and this live album demonstrates this skill. I am a huge Radiohead fan, and of course Billy Joel's music is a whole different genre, but the two have something in common. Both Thom Yorke and Billy Joel know how to construct a song and tell a story. Also, both artist's songs translate live. In fact, they are better live. Miami 2017 is brilliant live, as is the Ballad of Billy the Kid and Captain Jack. Edgy songs that are relavent and- hate to say it- catchy.

- Top 10

If I were stranded on a desert island and had 10 songs to put in my ipod, Miami 2017 would be one. I always like Billy Joel and listened to some of his stuff, but I had never heard this song and my husband happened upon it on Wolfgang's Vault last week. Probably the best live version of any song I have ever heard...his voice is so strong, the band is phenomenal, and the song is so catchy, well written and melodic. I can't get it out of my head!

- Songs in the Attic

I grew up on Billy Joel, so it's good to hear him singing live. Recommend this to any Bill Joel fan!

- An obscure jewel

As Billy himself noted in the liner notes (yes I have the vinyl somewhere) these early ballads really beneft from having his full band playing, as opposed to the studio musicians that played on the original versions. In particular, the band pours the passion into Captain Jack, and I've Loved These Days goes down like a fine glass of wine. On the original album notes, Phil Ramone noted that these songs still sounded fresh... in 1981. Still very true in 2018. One of my all time favorite live albums.

- Buy It

His very best. A must-have for even a casual fan.

- ❤️

❤️

- Billy The Kid

One of the best live albums ever made. Up there with Peter Frampton & Cheap Trick live gems. A must have!

- For "Summer, Highland Falls"

The first two songs on this album deserve five stars each. "Miami 2017" is eerie in its relevance today - but not so eerie that it's still not a blast to listen to. Honestly, I'm sure the rest of the album is good but I've rarely been able to get past this live version of "Summer, Highland Falls" without hitting the "replay" button. Of all the recordings he has created - and lord knows he's created some monsters -in my opinion this sweet, elloquent composition is his very best. It is the perfect Billy Joel song.

- A Must Have

Now I got this on CD a few years back for 5 bucks (I would for sure pay $9.99 on here though if you can't find it anywhere else) and I was very happy to find it. At the time I had all of these songs on their studio records and I liked them all, but these live versions take them to a new level. Usually I like the studio recordings of songs more than live, but this album is the complete opposite. There is not one bad song on this disc and the recordings are great, it is one of my favorite live albums and if you are a Joel fan it will easily become one of your favorites as well.

- GREAT ALBUM

WHEN I BOUGHT THIS LIVE ALBUM I LAYED ON MY LIVING ROOM FLOOR PUT IT ON THE RECORD PLAYER THEN OPENED THE ALBUM SLEEVE WHICH OPENED LIKE A PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM AND JUST STARED AT THE PICTURES AND LISTENED AS I WRITE THIS I COULD SMELL THE SMELL OF THE ALBUM COVER IT WAS AMAZING THIS ALBUM NEVER NEVER GETS OLD. THIS ALBUMS VERSION OF MIAMI 2017 IS THE BEST EVER. I HEARD IT PLAYED MANY TIMES LIVE AND ON ALBUMS RECORDED TRACKS BUT NEVER SOUNDS LIKE THIS. BUY IT YOU WONT GO WRONG.

- Billy's Best Album

Songs in the Attic was conceived as an Album to introduce his early work to newer fans, and it does so incredibly well; but this album, besides being a compilation of some of Billy's most powerful songs, I believe it has the best version of each and every one of them. You won't find a better version for any of these 11 songs... Purchase and enjoy!

- Album Artwork Error?

Anybody else seeing the album Billy Cate sings Songs of San Antonio as album artwork on their Ipods??? LOL. I own the 1998 remaster and somehow itunes updated the artwork with a different artist. 52nd Street has the same issue-- it shows the album artwork of the 3 Albums set PIano Man/Kohept/52nd Street. Sorry minor pet peeve. Brilliant album I've enjoyed this album ever since buying the 8track in 1982. I still have that 8-track! Went through records, cassettes, and 2 cds of this album, played so much it wore out until I put them on my ipod. .

- Joel's musical genius is proven on this live album!

I first jumped onto the Billy Joel bandwagon at the age of 9, with 1983's An Innocent Man. After that, I began buying his earlier albums to catch up to the magic that is Billy Joel. I can honestly say that this live album is my favorite of all Billy Joel's albums, and one of my favorite live albums, period. To this day, It's a treat for me every single time to listen to Songs in the Attic. His versions of Miami 2017, Ballad of Billy the Kid, and She's Got a Way are simply masterpieces.

- Billy Joel Songs in the Attic

My fave Billy Joel album! It never gets old! really enjoy it! Classic!

- Songs in the attic/Miami 2017

Great album. I've owned it on vinyl cassette and CD and now on my iPhone. Miami 2017 is such a great song live. Not many do remember when NYC almost went bankrupt on the mid 70s which inspired this song when it showed up on Turnstiles. And now here we are just few years from the title date. Feel old? fugeddabout! If you're my age you've seen all the changes. So stick in your earbuds and just rock out to this timeless classic

- Great

Ken is right. This album is great on the whole, but the first two tracks are amazing. As good as the studio versions of these two songs are, the raw performances here are impeccable, two of my favorite tracks from Billy Joel. I recommend this (at the very least, the first 2) to every fan of good music.

- Old Friend

I had this album back in the 80's. I played it until it almost wore out. The irony of it all, was when I bought the record, I wasn't a big Billy Joel fan. Twenty something years later I'm still not a big fan. But this album still stands the test of time. It's a great record.

- Generally

I don't always enjoy "live" albums BUT this truly a GREAT record

- I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!

All of these are great on their own account. But then to hear them live and with more power and passion...now that is Billy Joel!!

- Brilliant

From the brilliant Miami 2017, on to Streetlife Serenader, leading into Los Angelenos and Captain Jack from the B-Side of the Record, this is a beautifully put together live album, a must for any Joel fan, and should only be listened to as loud as possible!

- Joel at his absolute best!

Songs In The Attic is my favorite Billy Joel album. It may not have some of his better known songs from those earlier albums like Piano Man, but each song is played with passion and strikes a chord in the heart of the listener. Before you know it you will find yourself joining in with the band and as you belt out the lyrics to each of the songs. Billy Joel is one of those rare artists who sounds as good, or better, live than as recorded in the studio. As Billy himself says on the liner notes this album needs to be played loud! I have fond memories of doing just that when the album first came out whilst washing the floor at the skating rink where I used to work. I still play it loud now, whether in the car or at home. It is like a good friend or a fine bottle of wine - it improves with age. If you like Billy's music this album is one that you will never regret purchasing. Enjoy!
