About Soviet Kitsch by Regina Spektor Album

Soviet Kitsch is the third studio album and major-label debut by American singer-songwriter Regina Spektor. It was released on May 2, 2003, via Shoplifter Records. The title is drawn from Milan Kundera's expression for the vacuous aesthetics of Stalinist-style communism, a theme in his book The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

- Awesome!!!:)

This album is a beautifully crafted work of art!! The meaning of each awesome are so deep but awesome!! I am only in 6th grade but still!! My fav song is "Us"!! Thank you for this album Regina!!

- Incredible Stuff.

Regina Spektor is sensational. Did you hear that? No? Okay, i'll say it again: SENSATIONAL!! Her lyrics are better than almost any artist I've ever heard, and her voice is so spooky and different and beautiful... You'd have to hear it to understand. A couple of her songs seem more like experiments than full-fledged music, but they're still fun to experience. So go on, experience! You have to buy this album. Really.

- THE ALBUM THAT CHANGED MY LIFE

Regina Spektor is my muse, my life, my entire existence. I EAT, BREATH, SLEEP Regina Spektor. Soviet Kitsch is her supreme album. It is the epitome of both her existence and mine. Listen to this album and travel to Regina's Russia and beyond because her whimsical piano ensembles will take you there.

- Regina is the best you

i have nothing really to say other than this album is amazing. EVERY album by regina is amazing. she has no many corners and curves that shock you in her music, she is one of the most talented musicians ever.

- Magnifacent!

This album is magnifacent! Regina's singing can be hard and soft, quiet and loud, and boss and sweet. The ultimate alternative singer is right here!

- Amazing

Regina Spektor is so amazing. I got this album right when it came out and I am happy to say it is worth the money. She is straight forward and has an amazing voice. She inspires so many (such as Kate Nash another English pop artist that is amazing) I would reccomend this album to anyone from 5th graders to old ladies. It is a timeless album that won't fall. <3

- Somedays and Us

"Somedays" and "Us" are two songs that knock my socks off. I am amazed at her creativity and how amazing her voice sounds with the piano. It took me about a year to figure out she had an accent. I love Regina!

- Amazing wonderful Perfect awesome on and on ...

I wish I could have more money to buy all of her albums I fell in love in almost all of her song ! I was so desperate and then it so random it came up to me just like some destiny . Am so lively right now hahahahah ah!

- Wow... Just... Wow...

This is the only person I know of that can switch from rasping whispers while playing the piano to bringing forth punk-like vocals as soon as an electrical instrument comes about and make it beautiful. And yes, I'm talking about "Your Honor". This album is uncompromising perfection.

- Regina and white noise

The orchestration, the spectrum of genres, the beats, the challenging vocals, the attitude, the arrangement of songs, THE WORDS. Wow. I can listen to ONLY Regina Spektor for the rest of my life and be completely contented and happy. I have this is LP and I listen to it every night, white noise and all -- the best accompaniment to such an amazing artist. My personal favorite in this record is Chemo Limo: there's something in the names, in the story, in the voice. I love it.

- You have to be real messed up not to appreciate the beauty of her voice and music!

I recently discovered Regina Spektor. I heard her perform a long time ago on a late nite show and loved the song but couldnt remember what it was. I finally got around to giving her a good listen and I've fallen in love with her voice and style. I love so much different music from rap to metal, but she has to be my new favorite. So AMAZING!!!!

- Still the best

This record never gets old. So much personality and flavor. She is as good as it gets!

- Awesome

Don't get me wrong i love most her new stuff but this is the best album she ever made and ever will. On my top ten for life. Front to back is amazing. Carbon monoxide makes me wanna cry

- awesome!

THis might be the best album I've ever listened to. I started off listening to Regina with more popular songs like "Fidelity" but then moved on to her other albums. I'm pretty much obssessed with her style of music, and this album is the best I've heard so far. I listen to every song again and again, and never get tired of it. Best song on the album is "Ghost of Corporate Future." The lyrics are so intricate and I smile when I think of them. Another great Regina album!

- Spread the Word!

I have been a Regina fan for a long time. I discovered her before "Begin to Hope" and have always loved her music. Unfortunately, too few people (in my humble opinion) know about this album. From beginning to end, this album is captivating and fun to listen to. Regina has so much personality, and she lets it shine through her vocals. Listening to her music, I never feel like she's trying to be something she isn't. All of her songs come from the heart and are 100% genuine Regina Spektor. Nothing popish or mainstream, just her and a piano.

- Lyrical Nothings are the BEST!!!

After falling in love with "Begin to Hope," I thought I'd give "Soviet Kitsch" a shot, and I have to say I'm impressed! All of Regina's songs are just simple short stories! I LOVE IT! I know what she's saying, but I have no clue on what she's REALLY trying to say! That's what makes her so interesting! She should just come with her own dictionary! STANDOUTS include "Ode to Divorce," "Us," "Whisper," "Chemo Limo," and "Somedays." Fall into a creative kitsch made by Regina Spektor!

- The only full album I have ever bought

I have never bought any full album before because there are always some song I don't like, but this i will buy :)

- Is there anyone who doesn't like regina spektor?

seriously, every review her is saying how amazing she is. its the truth...her voice is so beautiful.

- :)

I absolutely love this album... It is one of my favorites. I love listening carefully to the different stories! I don't usually buy full albums, but this one I am definitely going to buy:)

- If your buying the album for "US"

Then just buy the single like I should have.... the rest of the album is ok.... & I'm just being generous because I like Regina Spektor.

- love regina,

always, and this is my favorite album from her.

- LOVED IT!

she is just so amazing! i love how different her songs are and how it just makes you think along\ makes you feel! i cant even describe it! love regina!

- Get down with some piano

Regina Spektor has a wide range. This early album shows her love for the arts with poetry, piano, and unique vocal tones. You'll not be dissapointed if you buy this album. It is unconventional and risky, but yet you feel at home whenever you listen to it.

- A preview of forthcoming greatness

I discovered Regina Spektor like so many others, by her quirky music video for Fidelity off her Begin to Hope album. Instantly enamored, I delved into her back catalogue to find other gems. Soviet Kitsch is a fantastic experience for those who enjoy her odd style. Equal parts anti-folk and beautifully melodic and easy-going piano rythms, there is something hypnotic about Spektor's music. This album is less abrasive than her hit 2007 follow-up, but no less enjoyable. Absolutely worth your time and entertainment dollar.

- Like it!!

I love the song Us!! if you like Regina Spektor, you should check out Missy Higgins! She's amazing!!!

- Favorite Albumn

This is my favorite albumn of all time. It's so different and fun. If you don't want the whole albumn, I would definately recomend the following songs: *"Us"- this is a fun, yet emotional song. Very fun to sing along to. *"Ghost of Corporate Future"- the story behind this song is very entertaining, the lyrics add up to create an amazing concept. *"Somedays"- this song is a sad song that makes you happy, dealing with a personal emotional battle. Overall, this albumn explores several musical styles. The songs all vary in style and meaning. It's definately not a waste of your money!

- Absolutely Amazing!

This album is so beautiful, I really enjoy "Us", "Odle to Divorce", and "Ghost of Corporate Future". The whole album is amazing and definitely worth your money!!!

- GREAT MUSIC!!

GREAT MUSIC!! US IS A GREAT SONG!!

- uhh...

mazing.

- Regina Speks is quirky and uncommon.

Soviet Kitsch is one of my favorite albums and the main reason I'm hooked on Ms. Spektor. She has such a quirky and lovable personality that you easily hear in each of her songs that makes each one infectious in its own way. Her style is very bare bone and unconventional, but oh boy does she grows on you. Her lyrics tell such honest and beautiful stories, and her unique style of singing adds to the emotion she puts into each song. She is a very gifted musician. Her music isn't for everyone but if you're willing to give her a try you'll agree with me that she's brilliant.

- This album changed my life.

I know it's so cheesy, but this album has had a HUGE impact on my life. Every single song on this album is just brilliant. I can't even put it into words. There's just something about her. Maybe it's the quirky way she uses her voice as an instrument. Maybe it's the way that her sound isn't "pretty" or polished. Maybe it's the way that she can find a life situation, put it into a song and it's an instant masterpiece. What I think it is is pure talent. Regina will undoubtedly go far. Best songs on the album (though it's hard to pick just a couple) Somedays Ode to Divorce Us Buy this wonderful album, you will not regret it for a moment.

- :-0!

No other singer sounds like her! I've been a fan ever since I heard "The Call" in Prince Caspian! She's great, has tons of songs and you are bound to find at least one to like!

- You already know it's fantastic...

My friend just suggested that I look up Regina Spektor one day, so I bought Begin to Hope and Soviet Kitsch... at first, Begin to Hope was definitely my favorite of the two, but as I began to listen to Soviet Kitsch, it grew on me soo much... I could do without Your Honor... not my kind of music. But Regina has such lyrics that just move you in such a wonderful, eerie way... Chemo Limo is definitely one of my favorites, it's just so eerie in a way, and Regina has an amazing voice of course. Poor Little Rich Boy is fun, funny, Carbon Monoxide is very haunting as well. Ghost of Corporate Future makes you think in a good way, Somedays is simply thought-provoking, Ode to Divorce is again haunting and depressing, Sailor Song is fun, and The Flowers is very beautiful. If you do not enjoy haunting, thought provoking music, stay away! But for those who are looking to be forced to consider life differently, to partake in a confusing, beautiful musical journey, BUY IT!!!

- Beautiful voice

I came across RS through genius & just counldn't help fallin' luv with her soft voice,it cures every broken heart.

- Hated it at first...

Honestly hated it, aside from Us, at first. But then something magical happened- i slowly started listening to everything else and it grew on me. I love carbon monoxide and, truthfully, your honor. Absolutely spectacular.

- O.... Wow.....

Undoubtedly one of my top favorite albums of all time. I didn't discover it until after researching Begin to Hope, but man, Begin to Hope's still a phenomenol album, but this just... blows it out of the water completely. Regina's music is so simple, and yet very, very dense, both insturmentally and lyrically, yet not to the point where the album is unaccessable to a general audience. She completely redefines the whole 'Girl-with-a-Piano' genre/conception, allowing it to flourish as one of the few remaining forms of music that stay loyal to the fact that Music itsesf is primarily a form of art, above all else, while entertainment should be a bonus, secondary aspect. Luckily for me, and for any true music lover out there, Regina and her Music never fail to completely exemplify both. As far as Soviet Kitsch in particular goes, it flawlessly soars to exuberant heights of joyous beats and vocal prowess, and seamlessly delves deep into dark, ominous areas of great emotion; then there's the gray area (perfect example of this being Carbon Monoxide) where in my opinion, Regina's songwriting abilities really become evident, as she sings of dark topics while playing upbeat, pretty tunes (her voice is amazing here too, of course :P ). Favorite Songs? Carbon Monoxide, Ode to Divorce, Us, and Poor Little Rich Boy (btw, you should see her play this live; she sings, plays piano, AND drums on the piano bench all at once, simply incredible) . For the sake of true art and Music, please, PLEASE get this album :D

- Takes my breath away

I bought this album a while ago i listened to a few tracks not to much then one day i put the cd in and it was like i went to heaven every song is a story. my opinion is it should be a musicle

- she sounds like a five year old

i would have put 0 stars if that was an option. these songs sound like a bunch of run on sentences that any 3 year old could have written DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM. it is totally a waste of money!!!!!!!

- I love her so much. <3

I think my favorite thing about Regina is that she never does what I expect. I got hooked on her newer albums, but Soviet Kitsch feels a lot more raw. As with all of her albums, I loved most of her songs from the start and the others grew on me! Amazing. :)

- Masterpiece

What a wonderful album!

- my favorite album by regina

regina spektor's album "soviet kitsch" has got to be one of my favorite albums. it's one of those that seems weird to listen to at first, but grows on you the more you play it. i like this album more than "begin to hope" by one hundred fold. it is a lot more quirky and less mainstream, and you can hear regina's emotions through the songs. "chemo limo" is so haunting and beautiful, and i think it portrays the situation so honestly.

- Fitzgerald & Hemmingway

I bought another album first and then bought soviet kitsh (an earlier album.) I absolutely love this album. She isn 't like anything I have heard before. Yet, her music just seems to touch your soul. You find yourself closing your eyes and just soaking in every note and nuance in her lyrics and voice. I recommend this album to old and young alike...

- Amazing

this is a truly fantastic and thought-provoking album.

- Regina is simply amazing <3

She's such a talent and if you love alternative music, then this is a good album to put on your iPod.

- Very cool:)

This is such a cool album. I kno a lot of people say that Regina's lyrics r a little weird, but personally, I believe shez allowed to write whatever the hell she wants! It's her songs! If she wants 2 write about bread and whatever...she's completely allowed! Shez not the kind of singer who's looking to get a bunch of crappy songs on the radio. She likes to take different subjects and put thoughtful tunes to them, making them nice, simple, and fun to listen to. I listen to this album probably every other day. The song Chemo Limo gives me goosebumps:). Its prety well done. *Oh, and in case u guys didnt notice, 'Whisper' is not a song. It's just an intro to the song Your Honor, duh?

- she is amazing!!

aahhh!! i hav the whole cd and am loving it!! she is such a talented singer, who has such a quirky personality that comes across in her songs. most people either love it or hate it, personally i LOVE it! she is so unique, and i love it! soviet kitsch is an amazing cd, and so worth buying the whole thing. =) she is also extrememly good in concert if u cant buy the whole cd, then i would suggest ode to divorce, somedays, chemo limo, or us but theyr all amazing!!

- amazing

this was probably the cd that opened my eyes to truely talented music. I was a punk listening to minor threat, JFA, and hardcore. After hearing this I opened my mind to real music. She is incredible and i would marry her.

- nahhh

Saw the price. $1.29? Really? That all it takes for me. Thumbs down Regina! Be more fan friendly.

- I <3 Regina Spektor is my new favorite t-shirt
