Oh My Gosh!! Regina Spektor is the most amazing artist I have heard besides Corrine Bailey Rae. Her music is nice and simple but keeps you spellbinded. Her vocals are beautifully coordinated. Great vocals like this is rarely heard by other artist. Regina is wonderfully wonderful.
I absolutely loooove regina spektor. Her voice is so beautiful and she is just amazing.
Regina seethes New York City. Her unique approach to singing and her fearless songwriting really embody the city in a way that few artits have. Comparing her to anyone doesnt really do her justice. In all honesty, i didnt really dig her at first listen but her songs stay with you. She's truly a unique musician.
For me, a person who is always getting bored with her music, I rarely find music that I like for a long time. This album is brilliant! I love it. I used to have awful taste in music (Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Hights), thinking I was cool =D. Regina is truly talented. Her voice is addicting and her music is catchy and her lyrics are pure genius. I love this, and you should too! I think I'll listen to this forever.... =)
I really like this so far. I also recently discoverd Nellie McKay, whom I think you would also like, if you like Regina.
Consequence of Sound can be found on youtube. Why is it not available here?
First I will say I don't normally listen to many female artists. My brother bought me "Begin to Hope" and liked it right away so I went to itunes to download her other albums. I was blown away by Soviet Kitsch. This album is easily in my Top 5. I can't say much but it is just a great great album. I met Regina at Coachella at the autograph signing and she seemed to be a very sincere and genuine person. I told her that my 20 month old girl sings to some of her songs and she said that it made her day that a little baby knows her songs. Regina is the total package.
The songs on this cd demonstrate real talent. Alot of orgininality and creativity. Beautiful voice. Saw her perform live, blew me away. "Us" is awsome.
Regina Spektor, coming to a coffee house near you! Another perfect example of how when indie artists strive to be different they all wind up sounding the same. Any one of these songs could be slipped into a Fiona Apple record and no one would know the difference. The song "Us" is carrying this album, without it theres not much else do get you to waste the time or money.
This is by far the best of all her albums...and all her albums are awesome!!! Best track is Chemo Limo...but every other day I change my opinion on the best track as they are all genius..... Hey I-Tunes...please sell her older albums, too.....there are other albums!!!!
I gave this album four rather than five stars only because, on the first half-dozen listens, I couldn't become interested. But something happened with time, and I find myself listening to it more often, liking tracks that I formerly skipped. The spare piano arrangements, deliberately raw vocals, and semi-obscure lyrics may not be to everyone's taste, but give it a few listens, separated by a couple of months, and see if you don't grow to love it, too.
this is the best regina album... in my opinion. shes amazing.
her music is really good, the instrumental part i mean, and her voice is awesome too, but i feel like her lyrics are so random and just out there, dont get me wrong i'm a fan but in order to be successful in the music industry, you have to have the whole package, lyrics, instrumental, voice....you have to have it all and if you leave one thing out you wreck your songs...why would someone get out of bed to eat wonderbread?
i havent heard anyone with such a unique and interesting way of playing music. regina spektor is a diverse writer and musician who, in soviet kitsch, shows us how beautiful and strange mesh together well. i love her voice and piano playing ability, wonderful album. "ghost of corporate future"/"chemo limo"/ode to divorce" are some of my personal favorites.
After falling in love with "Begin to Hope," I thought I'd give "Soviet Kitsch" a shot, and I have to say I'm impressed! All of Regina's songs are just simple short stories! I LOVE IT! I know what she's saying, but I have no clue on what she's REALLY trying to say! That's what makes her so interesting! She should just come with her own dictionary! STANDOUTS include "Ode to Divorce," "Us," "Whisper," "Chemo Limo," and "Somedays." Fall into a creative kitsch made by Regina Spektor!
this album rocks!! i thought it would be one of her, ehem, not so great albums but i stand greatly corrected. some absolute faves: ghost of the corporate future, chemo limo, and carbon monoxide. regina strikes again!!!
I love her begining to hope and this one was just more music by her, I'm so glad she was recomended to me she's amazing
She is just a spectacular singer and composer. When I first heard her sing I knew that she would go far. Good luck to Regina Spektor!
i started with fidelity i hate to admit that i was drawn in by one of her worst songs....but in any case i have fallen in love with regina spektor. i got her first album and memorized every song started banging on the piano trying to figure it out! you would be surprised how hard it is to play and sing at the same time.... she has a real talent, i would check out all her stuff and look forward to finding her live somewhere.
Yea I could def see Regina as the kind of sound thats... love it or hate it, there is no real middle... very unique..but I guess thats what gets me. I would by no means call it a 5 star album but its very good.
Regina Spektor is one of the greatest singers i've ever heard. Her talent is truly amazing, and it really shows in this album. Every song on this CD is a work of art, buy it. It will not disappoint.
this is one of the may great albums ms. spektor has given to the world. personally i love all of her music and i find this to be a great album especially because im moslty into more punkish rocknroll music and regina conglomerated her very stand out and shout songs to this.... i love chemo limo its a great tongue twister, and also somedays... "im in love with your daughter" priceless. all around great album make sure to buy ALL of this artists albums you wont regret it!
luv this album it's insightful and kinda catchy
geez, another album?? i just discovered Regina this summer, and i gotta say, she's my favorite artist. her lyrics are original and all of the songs that she sings are ones that stick with you for months.
Simplymy favorite album with my favorite song. "Us".
Regina Spektor has an ability to create new sounds in her music, a skill that many have forgotten. A love it or hate it kind of artist, those who seek momentum and inspiration in music (with a twist of insanity) will find good refuge in Regina Spektor...favorites of mine are "Us" and "Hotel song".
This is one of my favorite albums, Regina rocks! This album has so many different kinds of songs, it is def. not one note. It is really great for EVERYONE. It is soo great, BUY IT!
is amazing.
I was turned on to her latest album by my room mate and so i looked around for this album and if you love solo albums that you play over and over again in your bedroom, car, kitchen, life! then you will love this album and if you havent listened to begin to hope you need to right........now!
I downloaded "Begin to Hope" first and then asked myself why it was I hadn't really checked out "Soviet Kitsch" because frankly the former is one of my favorite albums. Ever. Regina is fabulous, fabulous. She is so spunky and her music just makes me happy. She is indeed an innovator and definitely in my top ten. My top ten list of artists, that is.
Her best album. Awesome.
Some songs are just WEIRD. Like, Whisper. Then I found out about that "Poor Little Rich Boy" and "Your Honor" can't "Whisper" to "The Flowers" to get him some "Carbon Monoxide" "Somedays". And the shapage of her nose, I mean blech, she's just weird. Her only okay song is Fidelity, which comes off as sad, but that wasn't on Soviet Kisch! Hmm? Well a good 2 star album, all because of Whisper. Hmmm? TOODLE$!
i luv regina!! I first heard it with my sister and was so NOT hooked then we went to her web site, {GO THERE!!} then BAM I was in toatly into her music.I love it, you will to!!
i love regina spektors albums and this one is pretty cool. don't you think so to
Soviet Kitsch is Regina Spektors best album thus far. This is much less produced than Begin to Hope, and may not be as accessible to the massess, but repeated listenings well definetlly have the album growing on you. Regins voice is truly stunning. And shows so much talent and variation throughout the entire album. The lyrics are unique, quirky, imaginitive and just a whole range of emotions. Ode to Divorce is from such a unique perspective and the music adds to its whole atmosphere. Regina is one of a few artist who can sing lyrics like "wont you help a brother out?" and not sound idiotic. All tracks are stand outs. Ode to Divorce, Poor Little Rich Boy, Us, Ghost of Corporate Future are all really easy to get into. The other ones took some time to grow on me, but are just stunners. Chimo Limo is such a somber but happy song, one of the best on the album. The songs are also very varied from track to track, which is another good thing about the album, it doesnt get all that boring after repeated listens. I hope she returns to this earlier work after her more radio/TV friendly Begin to Hope. Definitlly buy and enjoy!
I can't speak for the whole album, but "Us" is a truly spectacular song, which brought tears to my eyes. Regina is a genius and her music is so full of heart, it makes you want to cry with happiness.
I like most Regina Spektor albums, but this one isn't my fave. Sure, there's deep meaning in the songs, but I found this particular CD to be disappointing.
"carbon monoxide" i like. play it for loved ones who smoke and tell them to quit smoking. "chemo limo" i had to listen to a few times to get the story straight. sad story but strong and i love it. all regina's songs have catchy chorus-es and true and strong lyrics. i have this ablum and Begin To Hope, also really good lyrics. buy them both, i dont know about her earlier work but i do admire her because she writes her own songs. i dont think artists should singsongs with lyrics that arent theirs. how could they mean what they sing if it doesnt come from their minds. regina's also from my part of the country so i'm trying my best to see a concert in the city, maybe.
This has to be one of my favorite albums of all time, all the songs are just so perfet with each other...although i reccomend buying this album in stores because then you also get a dvd with a short film entitled "survival guide to soviet kitsch" and the music video for "us"
"Despite its arty quirks..." God forbid music occasionally aspires to art! If you dig this, check out Elizabeth and the Catapult.
I first heard of Spektor on VH1 with Fidelity, i ddnt love it but i got it, then i saw more of her albums (SOVIET KITSCH) and i loved this one. My favorite thing about her is her voice. It rlly thick and then she sortof adds a little twang. One of my favorite songs is the Flowers because the piano and her voice are amazin. Im obsessed. People say she sounds like Fiona Apple. I dont see the resemblences Fiona is angry, REgina is Sad and fun (not angry). I think it Ludicrous she isnt famous. People should rlly look forward to her.
I am completely awed by this album and by everything I have heard by this artist. It is incredibly refreshing to hear a female singer/songwriter (for lack of a better categorization) bring such imaginative, lively, thought-provoking content to the world of pop music. Her vocal quality is simultaneously raw and impeccable, but perhaps what impresses me the most about her voice, specifically, are the interesting and gutsy ways she's willing to use it. Unlike so many of today's female pop artists, who seem to work very hard to engineer their tones and timbres to sound just like everyone else's, Regina Spektor will, during the course of one song, be almost jarringly in your face--bright and angry and loud and often hardly even 'singing'--and then soften up, revealing an honest, young, vulnerable sound that is just undeniably lovely and also, frankly, requires exceptional vocal control. And all of this, without even mentioning the incredible piano, the sometimes lovely and sometimes bizarre (but always wonderful) melodies, and a lyrical songwriting style that, if you listen closely, will captivate you with its frank, engaging, and sometimes bitter ruminations. Especially splended (and addicting) are 'Ode to Divorce,' 'Us,' and 'Chemo Limo,' but it's really worth having the entire album in order to experience the spectrum of this artist's musical genius. Oh yeah, and get 'Begin to Hope,' her most recent album, too. God, she is so good.
Regina is a very uplifting artist and i have been on itunes just buying all of her songs. seriously, it's a break from all of the new songs about sex and stuff, and this music is just soooo good. on the radio, us, back of a truck, and many others are very good. (some of these are from different albums of hers). Seriously, she is so good that i got tired of just buying her songs and waiting for them to download that i just had to write a review on her. I LUV U REGINA SPEKTOR! come out wth a new album, PLEEZ!
Spektor has quite the unique style: A first-rate pianist unbounded by structure and creativity, full of quirky, insightful, well-written lyrics, I've never heard anything like her. This comes highly recommended for anyone who feels they need something refreshing to add to their catalogue.
you sing really really really realley ect...................................................ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ok very bad by josie :)
I've NEVER heard someone so daring and original. She's as childish as we wish we could be, yet extremely clever and articulate. She's ridiculous, but she's a genius. I'm addicted.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GET THE SONG WHISPER!!!!!! IT IS NOTHING BUT 2 PEOPLE WHISPERING TO EACHOTHER! IT IS A WASTE OF A DOLLAR!!!!!! But you should check out her other album, just not this one, the other one is wayyyyyy better!!!!!
actually im not a big regina spektor fan. I dont really like much of her songs but"us" is a different story. It is one amazing song. I would recommend that one song to anybody. It is definantly worth 99 cents
To me Regina Spektor is a breath of fresh air compared to all of the crapy songs surfacing lately. She speaks in a way that many can relate to. I also love how she balences the classic sound of the piano and twists it in the most creative ways coming out with something truly remarkable: real music
This is the best of the 3 seriously! If you've only heard Fidelity and are looking at purchasing some more of her music you should download "your honor". Honestly though, the whole album is singable, uplifting, funny, and mostly a GREAT conversation starter. Everyone always asks me what i'm singing while i walk around campus! She's huge at my school now!! my favorite Question is, "where do you find this music?" i simply reply, "itunes". You should not miss out on this wonderful album!
