A truly enjoyable collection which deserves a second glance by any lover of American Civil War music.

- Originally entitled "Songs of the North and South"

My dad had the original vinyl LP of this album - which was called "Songs of the North and South". That album was what you see below up to track 11 (and this iTunes version is missing a track, "He's Gone Away", which is the song that I was looking for. LOL! Isn't that always the way). The Mormon Tabernacle Choir did a beautiful job with these songs. I used to listen to my dad's album as a young boy (probably the ONLY boy who was listening to it within a 300 mile radius of my hometown!), while playing with my Marx Civil War soldiers playsets. Weird? Maybe... but I was always into the Civil War as far back as I can remember. If authentic period-style Civil War songs are what you're looking for - if you want good ol' boys playing banjos and fiddles - then this wold not be for you. But, if you want touching and moving versions of these Civil War-era songs sung with beauty and feeling, then this is for you. But, again... you can skip tracks 12-20. Tracks 1-11 are the ones I remember.
