By far one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time. This album put Lupe Fiasco on the map. Not saying Food and Liquor wasn't as good as The Cool but The Cool Define him as a clever lyricist. Combining smooth beats with artistic lyrics, The Cool will remain a timeless album.

I've been bumpin' this CD since it came out in 2007 (its now 2011), and frankly I like it much better than his new material (i.e. "the show goes on") which is over-played on the radio and watered-down significantly. The BEST song on this album is by far "DUMB IT DOWN"....the beat slaps, the lyrics are clever and deep, and this song does not get the recognition it deserves. Every other song on this album, The Cool, is fantastic, as well. I think Lu had to make a decision; to stay somewhat underground and have a narrower, more intellectual, but loyal fan-base......or get played on the radio and make it to the "mainstream", which can definitely increase revenue, but can also push away TRUE Lupe fans that have been listening to his words of wisdom since "kick-push". Lets see MORE of "the Cool" and CANCEL "the show goes on"..... "They told me I should come down, cousin, but I flatly refuse, I ain't dumbin down NOTHIN"--Lupe Fiasco, "Dumb it Down" [The Cool, 2007].

John Ellis - Easily Lu's Worst
It's not a terrible album. If you've never heard Lupe before (I don't mean on the radio), you'll probably think it's pretty good--he's still very talented. But compared to Food & Liquor, this album feels like a sellout. In fact, the only thing that really saves his credibility, in my opinion, is his most recent album Lasers, which was almost as good as his debut. Lyrically, The Cool lacks the same complexity of Lu's other work--the rhymes may be complex, but the meaning and message are not. On Food & Liquor, he raps about the ghetto, politics, philosophy, society, love, and struggle. Here... who knows? "Paris, Tokyo" is about how he travels all over the world. "Dumb It Down" is ironically about his refusal to dumb down his lyrics for the masses. "Go Baby" is plain-old annoying. The Cool just doesn't have a clear message. Rather, it feels like he had a TON of music he'd made, and it had gotten to the point where he had to release it--even if none of it was particularly groundbreaking. In simplest terms, The Cool lacks the soul of Lupe's other work. If you're new to Lupe, ignore the inaccurate iTunes review and check out his other albums, which I promise have more than catchy singles to draw you in.

This album is incredible. Only song I don't like is Hi-Definition. If you're new to Lupe, go buy Food & Liquor, which I think is his best album. Lasers is pretty good too. People hate on it because it was "dumbed down" by his record company but I think it still has good messages and his great lyrics. Bottom line is that Lupe is a great rapper.

In my opinion, the cool by lupe fiasco and the eminem show are the 2 best rap albums of the decade. Unforgettable, deep, and only one flaw (the song go baby). Josh 23 - Lupe raising the bar
His done it again! As good as his first album was, 'The Cool' demonstrates fiascos potential in making a real dope album. Lupe delivers what is an excellent line-up of features such as snoop who is nothing but off the hook The production is superb with each song as good as the next due to its innovating and rhythm tic style. I'd be lying if i said i loved every song on the album, but its safe to say its def worth what itunes is offering and any hip hop fan would enjoy this. Itโs defiantly one of the top buys at the moment. :)

Many of the songs are great to sit and relax too, but they are incredibly draining, yes although there is uniqueness in every song, none in particular stood out for me. If you listen to one song, you've heard 'em all. Yes - original, no - interesting. Quite dissapointing actually. Lets just say that the emotion doesn't change from the every song and it remains sombre and tiring and relaxing and chilled out. Not my type emotion I guess. It got too soft I almost wanted to puke. Lupe needs so much more attitude. Although there is one stand out song - Gotta Eat -, very suspenseful amazing strings and background vocals (propably will be sampled but what the heck!). Intruder is also a sweet song, the indian sitar? (i think) is relaxing, and this time its actually relevent to the music. The piano is great and the harp (I think) was a nice subtlety, even the background vocals grow on you (the sombre feelings in this actually work). Baba Says Cool for Thought is very fiersome and almost chilling to listen to.Free Chilly had amazing strings but boring vocals (which I payed no attention to especially to the lyrics of). Thats it! I only recommend buying singles in this album, you will find yourself shifting through crappy songs and skipping ones that are overly familiar. ps. I do give a thumbs up to the producers involved in this album because they are the core to this occasional great music.

Lupe Fiasco has struck again with a great taste for hip hop and rhyme! The thing I like about Lupe Fiasco is that he uses great singers to help him along in the choruses, it's just so different and better than just rap during the whole song. With some great songs like Intruder Alert, Superstar and Street's on Fire this is a must-have album for Hip-Hop fans!

Lupe is such an unusual artist ( mostly to the now predominantly gangster rap music) and just embraces his individuality with such passion. His flows are great, lyrics beautiful, subject matter is incredibly relatable and can hit you with so many different emotions. He's what ever a great artist should be and hopefully inspires others to be like him, he's defiantly done it for me!!!! This album dosen't leave out any of what he does best and is just filled with beautiful and different music that all fans of GOOD music should listen to. I just picked up all of his albums and without a doubt I suggest you do the same!!!! :)
