RealRocky101 - I love this! This is a great album. He made a new style and it sounds so good. This album is very calming and just great to listen to!
sfl guuurl - Love itFor anyone to say that this is "too country" obviously isn't a true fan of John because he/she would that John's music is constantly evolving. That's the beauty of his music, there's always something different from him. It takes such talent to he able to compose so many uniquely and equally incredible albums the way he has. What are you supposed to expect, he's in Montana! I love this album just as all the others and I cannot wait to hear what comes next
4S fan - Câmon!!!Best John Mayer album. True.
Liltomato - Cures my anxiety instantly! Feel like I am in the Country SideI love this album so much! It's very difficult to pick a favorite album, because all his albums have amazing songs, so it's nearly impossible to decide. However, I like the mellow feel that this album has, I listen to it when I feel anxious and his vocals along with his guitar, the music, just everything is so calming and relaxing, that even on a stressful moment, as soon as I play the songs from this album I am taken back to a good "Chill" place and I feel as though I am in the country side sitting in a chair and listening to the town people play music and carry on with their daily lives. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT FEELING and I appreciate this album so much for that. THANK YOU JOHN MAYER!!!
hippybwityy - SuperEverything he does is amazing, I love the entire album!
WesHolley - After 6 months I still don't listen to it.I love John Mayer just as much as the next guy and own all his albums. I will continue to buy his albums but noticed the other day that I can't tell you one song from memory on this album. Just not memorable like his previous stuff. Please grab your electric guitar and begin again.
Gamer3748 - Awesome! This is one of his best albums yet!
Mehededeme8 - Too country for me.I guess it's ok but he ( John Mayer) is just making the songs a bit to sappy and country for my tastes. It's not bad but not really what I wanted.
Little Feat Fanatic - Great JobJohn, love the album. This is not a country album, this is an album celebrating the Southern California, Texas folk rock scene of the 70âs with fantastic results. Johnâs version of the classic J.J. Cale song Call Me The Breeze is true to the original as compared to Lynyrd Skynyrds version (Which is amazing also)âŚâŚNice job John being early 70âs laid back is cool too.
BrianSwaldi - He continues to createYou gotta love John Mayer. He's a bankable artist who never puts out a bad/weak album. Track for track he nearly always hits the mark. I seriously can't believe how good this album is. Aside from being just very pleasant background music, this is the best Mayer album since Continum and possibly better than Battle Studies. And it blows the doors off the last album. It's as if the last album was practice for this one. It has the same feel and tone, but it's clearly much more solid. The writing is so much more generalizable and universal. Much more poetic and it reaches me more than the last album does. I hear hints of Jim Croce at moments - like the line about the key hanging where it used to be. He's clearly tapped into some of the heart of folk music - the base of all good genres.
And this album does veer towards folky brilliance. I mean, there's the pop and new country twang going on, but it's more folk than anything. But the country influence that so many artist have run to recently with underwhelming results works well for Mayer. It's a very comfortable addition into his sound unlike it has been for many others. The thing that proves to me that Mayer is brilliant is that I don't hear genres when i listen. I hear John Mayer. He transcends genre and defies categorization. Mayer is a genre unto himself. It's as if he created a new sound with this album. A feat he achieves with seeming effortlessness.
His guitar work is also possibly stronger than ever. It's not the front and center focus as with the Trio, but it's presence is ever felt. Stunning solos that speak as well as his vocals. Seriously, it's as if he's talking with it at moments. Just constant weaving throughout the tunes. Highlighting his vocal sections without obscuring them. Perfect. He is the guitarist of our generation. Period.
Even the weakest songs on here are still just great. Mostly both strong and weak 4 star songs with one or two three and one or two five star songs. Wildfire, You're No One, and Badge and Gun are my favorites. There is only one mis-step here. The short Frank Ocean version of Wildfire is garbage - a total outlier throwaway.
It's hard to fathom how he does it. He does what so few can do - write and play creatively and consistently well. No filler. No borrowing and piggy-backing. Minimal fake sounds/studio tickery. It's mostly all Mayer.
This all being said, Paradise isn't a perfect album. There are still far fewer 5 star songs on here than on Continuum. And the lyrics are a little less deep/impactful overall than on some of his previous albums. Songs like Dear Marie sound great, but are too personal and very difficult to relate to.
Overall there's one 5 star song on this album in Wildfire, seven 4 star songs, two 3 star songs and just the one throwaway in the Frank Ocean version of Wildfire.
Nini poppy - if only he werenât awfuldonât you think she was too young
sobre-mesa - Before You Accuse MeFirst of all, Iâd like to say that I love this album. Personally, I feel that Paradise Valley and Born & Raised represent his strongest songwriting/musicianship yet. Iâm sorry if you dislike this ânewâ style, because youâre missing out on a sublime record.
Second of all, this type of "country" music has very little to do with what we commonly consider country to be today. Present-day country, as exemplified by people like Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton, is much bigger, with twangy, nasal vocals, fiddle solos, big drums, etc. in other words, it is much more geared towards a âradio/Top 40â sound than the sort of intimate, introspective vibe that Mayer conjures on songs like âDear Marieâ and âBadge & Gunâ. This style leans more towards the style of CSNY or Joni Mitchell or Norah Jones or even Iron & Wine; I would say that country isnât the best term for it- Americana or roots-rock would be closer to the truth. Paradise Valley may have elements in common with country music, but it certainly isnât country, unless weâre talking about country from 1972. (All of those artists come recommended by me.)
Lastly, to the naysayers and those mourning the âreal John Mayerâ, I urge you to go watch one of his interviews from the last few years; the one with Jian Ghomeshi is particularly illuminating. Mayer has said that his lifestyle/personal circumstances and his art are inseparable (like any true artist) and that he was not in a healthy headspace starting with the Continuum record and moving on through Battle Studies, an outlook formed by his meteoric rise to fame and subsequent presence in the media spotlight. When he hurt his throat he took the opportunity to get his life right and to let go of some of the excesses and neuroses that go along with a big city popstar lifestyle. Therefore, this music is coming from a much more honest, much less f___ed up place for him. One only need listen to âWhiskey, Whiskey, Whiskeyâ from B&R or âWaiting on the Dayâ to hear lyrics that are clearly about his growth as a human being. Conversely, he has stated that some of his earlier songs werenât about much of anything at all (he cites a line in âClarityâ as being silly and vacuous). Donât get me wrong, I enjoy the early stuff as much as the next fan; I just find it hard to understand how, in a music community that is increasingly concerned with âauthenticityâ and âreal meaning, Paradise Valley isnât receiving more respect for possessing those very qualities.
If youâre looking for Continuum Volume 2, you wonât find it here. If, however, youâre in search of classic genuine songwriting and brilliant if humble musicianship, Paradise Valley will find a place in your heart.
Stig . - Best venture yetDespite all of the criticism that he has received for his new direction, John Mayer now has a purer, more mature sound. Far from "Your Body is a Wonderland," his new stuff is raw and speeks to the core.
JayMayfan - Still BrilliantWhat I think people fail to realize is that this is the same old Mayer, it is just in a different genre. The dude is still making music he deeply cares about, and is writing lyrics that are as clever as ever. Iâm not a country fan whatsoever, but I am a Mayer fan, and that helped me breakthrough my initial dislike for the CD. The more I listened, the more I realized the âOld Mayerâ is still in thereâŚactually I realized that the âOld Mayerâ never really left.
Instafan 2012 - John Mayer at his finestThis album is so good. Such a different vibe than that of the pop-radio play songs. Please, more albums like this!!
Rhi39815 - Never Ceases to Amaze MeI've always been a fan of John Mayer's music, and so far he hasn't let me down. Paradise Valley is just another form of greatness Mayer has created. But then again, he can make any genre sound amazing. That's just how talented he is.
totallyfrozen - New Mayer very different from old MayerPersonally, I like the old John Mayer music A LOT! It's what got me hooked on him. Starting with Born & Raised, he's taken on a much more Tom Petty-like sound. While I enjoy his older sound (Room for Squares through Battle Studies) with its intersting basslines and addictive rhythms, his newer sound is still very solid. His lyrics are always imaginative and deep. Some claim he's inventing a new genre; he's not. Born & Raised and Paradise Valley are basically in the Americana genre (e.g. Tom Petty). I've always like Americana so this album is still a treat for me; however, it might be too far away from his original jazz/blues/pop sound of his earlier work for some diehard Mayer fans.
Diyadiva - PerfectionVery few artists can be around as long as John Mayer have, and still have a super loyal fan base, and be relevant. Somehow John Mayer seems to have done that and keeps doing it. I love everything that he has to offer musically, and he isn't afraid to change it up ( or if he is; he does a good job of covering it up). I have been obessed since Your Body, and I will continue to obess over quality music. Keep it up John you are an amazing musician.
the_alex_ray - Good vibes. This is honestly one of my favorite John Mayer albums. It's got great vibes and it's full of soul. I don't understand the backlash from fans over this and his born and raised album. There is no good reason to bash an artist over trying something different. Why people frown upon personal growth and evolution of artistry is beyond me. John Mayer is still the same John Mayer no matter what. He is merely expanding upon what he's already good at.
Capitalism and Freedom - Paradise ValleyThis is one of my personal favorite John Mayer albums. This album has a great flow, track after track. This album also has great vocals, great drum solos, and great guitar solos as well. Finally, the instruments wrap around the vocals like no other, and intertwine perfectly. Definitely looking forward to the next limited play album, and extended play album from John Mayer.
Wz - Oh no! Mayer is maturing ---what a fine thing.Ok, so he's turned from a sensation to a very fine musician - not that he's not still sensational - but differently and the moaning and critisism will continue and even expand. "I want more.., Go back to " this or that or whatever. "This is too country, this is too whatever". The man's secure. He can do what he wants and it seems what he wants is to just put out some fine music and play his guitar really well. Here, Here John, keep up the really good work.
LoganBrothers. - His Music Evolves With His MaturityI've never seen an artist whose personal growth reflects so much in their music. Each album is a new perspective, and new style. All the while his guitar playing keeps getting better and more technical. Even when compared to everyone's favorite comparison album, "continuum," his new stuff stands up. If all you want is his Blues music then, go listen to his blues music it's still around. I'm extremely excited to see how his recent work with Dead & Company influence his new studio album, that he's going to be working on with the musicians he recorded Continuum with.
Carumba! - Where's the John Mayer?!What's going on Mayer?! Getting a bit too folksy for my taste. Where's the heart on my sleeve blues John?! Where are you in this album? This album is not terrible but definitely a whole other direction of the John Mayer I loved to listen to from Room from Squares and Heavier Things. "Sigh" ::Tear Tear::
jeffwine03 - One of His BestThe first four songs on this album are his best writing on any album after Continuum. Battle Studies and Search for Everything are amazing albums, but this album is seriously John Mayer after completing yet another evolution. His first evolution was the original material. The second began with Heavier Things and culminated in Try/Continuum. The third ran through Battle Studies, Born and raised, and hits its peak in this album, Paradise Valley. It seems John delvs into a specific style for several albums, until mastering it and integrating it into his overall "sound," then moves on to the next challenge. Do I like every song on this album? No, a few are still two country-twangy for me. But it's a 5 star album all the same. Buy it on disc.
Ilikehalo jk - Great!Great album
uglyworm - Give it a chanceWhen I first listened to the song previews, I was unsure. However, once I heard the full album I was pleasantly surprised (and no, Iâm not a fan of country). This isnât the same as John Mayerâs other music, but who says it has to be? I get bored of artists whose songs all sound the same.
msdanasue - THIS IS WONDERFULI have never in my 60 years found an album I liked every song on. Now I have. I like every song. This is a mellow, relaxing and fun album to listen to. I wasnât a fan, I am now
Kaylaa! - Not so good for meI've listened to John Mayer all my life, before I was even born..! And I love his music! But I feel he's getting a lil too country.. I miss the old John Mayer!
Jennifergoich - perfectsimply perfection
Cess Masta Flexx - Love itFolksy, country, and traditional John Mayer. I love it. I could listen to it all day and night.
Just Temporary - John!!!You've been hanging around Hiroki a little too much. It's still a solid album in case anyone thinks otherwise.
Yep I know - Rock?By who's ear?? Adult contemporary by far but NEVER ROCK!!!
That guy named Jeremy - Good but...This album is good although I would LOVE another album like continuum that would be AMAZING!!
hjfhs - YesAll i can say is i love this album to death. I love the vibe on it. I love wildfire. I love every song on the album.
HopFroggy - Literally is paradiseEvery time you listen to this album you enter paradise. This is a very relaxing/chill type of album. Every song is just so good and different. I like the guitar and the cords are perfect.
whydoievenbother4879 - New Direction isn't working for meI've purchased every single album of John's from Room for Squares up to Born and Raised. None of the songs in Paradise Valley really grabbed me (e.g. stirred my emotions) like some from his previous albums, and musically I'm not as interested in folk/country, especially when I know that John can do Rhythm&Blues better than just about anyone alive right now. I don't fault John for making music that he loves, but I wish he only loved rhythm and blues... This album doesn't even do that good of a job of convincing me that he loves those other genres anyways. "Wildfire" is just a bit too nondescript and redundant, "Who You Love" fails to be emotional, and "Paper Doll" is a bit too impish (or taunting) for me to enjoy. I'm still staying tuned for his future albums, and I hope it's a significant departure from this contrived stuff.
Raw DL - Not for meJM's legacy is already a rich one. His first three albums (Room for Squares, Heavier Things, and Continuum) are still three of the most musical albums ever. He has earned the right to find himself through music, and I respect his efforts to try new things regardless of fan base or record sales. That said, I really don't like this album. I was already tired of it on the third listening. Uninspired, flat, and quite unremarkable. Duke Ellington said there is really only two categories of music: good and bad. So, it's not the country elements that make this a poor record for me; it's just the badness. Two stars because it's John Mayer...but it's really a one-star record.
Bum... - YAS John Mayer YASThis is what I'm talking about. Real soul music that this world needs. Excellent for a relaxing sailboat ride or star-gazing night. Bravo.
Skylaguy24 - He's amazing.John Mayer is literally the best thing ever. He's literally flawless. <3
MiketheJMfan - Always Pulls ThroughIm always suprised when I hear a new JM album. In my opinion he is one of the only-if not the only- musician who can completley change his style from album to album and still pull through with great sucess. I've been listening to JM since i was 5 sitting in my dads truck on the way to the beach. I loved him then and love him even more today. He is a true pioneer of the music world! Some say hes "too country" or "his old stuff was best." Personally I think he could sing almost anything and turn it into GOLD. I'm truely anxious to see whats next! I love John Mayer!
Katieccny13 - My Johnny CashLike many other people on here, I've been listening to John since he released his first record back in '99. Every album since then has been more intricately beautiful, profound and unique than the last. He always finds a way to keep his sound (making his work recognizable to those who love him) ,yet effortlessly taking his music to another level. What I love most about his work, including this album, is that he is not like most artists in the sense that there are just a bunch of mix matched attempts of a hot song rolled into one. John actually takes the time to make a record, or as I like to call it, a collection of fragments of his soul. John is an artist who is breaking down musical barriers and redefining what it means to be an artist in today's world. He is someone who's work will stand the test of time; despite the fact that he is under appreciated by mainstream music critiques. He is my man in black; my Johnny Cash...and Katy is effortlessly, his June Carter. I'm so proud of him...
megily26 - Amazing, of course. There is not one John Mayer song I donât love! He is so versatile and can sing any genreâhis voice is pure gold. He never disappoints!
Ppmeca - omgJM is a legend!!!
TanyaB. - RedemptionHe redeemed himself to me. I hated Born and Raised and it made me think John was done. But this new one is lovely. Paradise Vally is third to Continuum and Room for Squares in my opinion.
basstationnine - Great AgainA natural follow up to "Born And Raised" with a bit of a bend towards the blues and Memphis... What continues to stand out about John is his songwriting and impeccable playing. Impossible not to like this record (and all of the others...)
Into the Mystery - Like born and raised, only worseAn enormous waste of talent.
Joint Moints - WowDownloaded this album on the first day, loved it. It's a mixture of all his albums in one.
Karlowa - No!Guess he wants to make sure we know he's a good ole boy! The album is awful!!!
One in 1 million - give her back her girlhoodit was hers first.
Heeee's baaaacccckkk! - 22 girls in one đI like the one about Taylor lol

Rb47tj2345 - Katy:)<3This is a great pair up! They sound great to me!! But Katy is the bomb I am a super fan!!!!! I will definitely listen to this song more often!!:)
Cmamel - Great music.Different sound from you, but I quit enjoy it. I like how diverse you are.
TheBigRoch - Paradise ValleyLove John Mayer, and this album is so different, and again he is a master..
erino90 - Great!I love this album. It has the perfect mix of Mayer's blues style with a ton of folk/country influence. I recommend everyone give this a listen. Very refreshing :)
Maysmum - Heart centred and honest artistryThis is the only review I have ever been inspired to write. However, I could not let another moment go by without letting everyone know how brilliant and honest this music is. First time in years I have bought a whole album and enjoyed each and every song in all it's beauty. Drove the beautiful mountain ranges in Alberta for hours this fall and this music was a perfect accompaniment for the magnificent drive. Great traveling music...moving, lyrical and pure. Great album and worth every penny. Thanks for sharing Mr.Mayer the world is better for it! Well done sir! Well done...
TyrellCurry - Mellow, Heartfelt, and Moving.John's newest album, Paradise Valley, is a great example of Mayer's musicianship. He's a great artist. I love all his work!
kyleashton - FantasticThis and his last album have quickly become two of my favorites in the past few years.
Dominick-St. Albert, Alberta, - Lyrics to Sooth the Soul!I have followed John's music for many years, since his musical career started with his firts album. I find the first time I listen I enjoy the notes, lyrics and the moldies that he creates. Most importantly I have a greater sense of what his music does for me personally, moreso than any other artist I have ever listened to. The lyrics always take me back to memories I hold dear of my family, my children and thos that matter most. A great album!
kaity_16 - Dream Collaboration!Okay so Katy Perry and John Mayer are my favourite female and male singers respectively. When I found out they were dating I was so excited. Then when I discovered their duet on this album I was ecstatic!! It's exactly how I would have imagined a Katy/John duet. Beautiful people inside and out and beautiful music!
T2Y1Y7 - Better than Born and Raised"You're No One 'Til Someone Lets You Down" is the best country song released in years. The entire album has a great feel and mood - a album that you can play beginning to end which is so rare today. Favorites are "You're No One"' "Badge and Gun" and the spin on "Call Me the Breeze"
catmarg - Comfortable in his skinThis music is so pleasant and interesting to listen to. It floats through the earbuds to my amygdaloid. Relaxing, motivating, toe tapping and original. Some beautiful lyrics. I love the beautiful snippet of Wildfire with Frank Ocean. This tops Johns past efforts.
mmgf - #Mayerisback and I am loving it!!I have read some negative reviews about Born & Raised and Paradise Valley, always comparing to Continuum and how this "country" tune is different. For me, he has grown as an artist and his music is evolving and he is better than ever. Yes, maybe he doesn't have a tune like Waiting for the World to Change, but he has said it, he doesn't care about creating the next pop hit, he wants to express himself. I recently attended his B&R concert and he is magnificent. His music and his lyrics have evolved and I am a true fan. On this one, I love the catchy tune of Wildfire, the honesty on Who you Love, the hope on Lost at Sea (I will be found), the cleverness in Paper Doll ... This album and Born & Raised show a new time for John Mayer and he proves that he is a great & complete artist: singer, songwriter, guitar player. So glad he's back!!
toddpoirier - Eric Clapton of our generationThis is one of the most refreshing albums I have ever bought. Absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend this album to everyone.
Mariermjjlmđ - dear marieomg!! its my name in another song but back to the point so talented :) :D
LynseDee78 - FantasticI've been a John Mayer fan for over 10 years and even though his sound has changed and evolved quite a bit since then, no matter how much it changes his undeniable talent always shines through and he can basically do no wrong, in my opinion. I love this record, it did not disappoint. Stand out tracks for me are Wildifre, Paper Doll, Dear Marie, Who You Love, but the whole thing is great.
CreativeSkye - hmmmm⌠?I so appreciate and respect this man as an artist and musician, and so was excited to learn of a new album! My first impression of the new release's splash page visually: stunning, dramatic, and yet... contrived. Is that his dog? Is that his hipster coat and blanket? A headband, really? Was this HIS idea, the giddy genius inspired and delighted to share his newest creation?
Ok, so the photo shoot was formulaic. Fine. Maybe it is his dog. Perhaps it's his funky necklace at least. I understand the commercial machine behind the music industry and therefor dampen my initial cringe of trendy placation...
Listening, hmmm, skip, listening some more, yup, check, skip, skip. Some obligatory duets, good for publicity and target markets. Snore. He sounds bored. He looks bored! Uninspired, like he is singing the words, but I cannot hear his heart.
Cest la vie. I trust Mr Mayer will continue to "mature", regain his bliss and inspiration, and step back into the huge creative boots that he forged with his early authentic, passionate, and brave work. I look forward to being wowed once again.
XandBosch - Meh - #Mayerisn'treallybackAs others have said there's nothing spectacular on this album. With the exception of the lead single "Wildfire", most of the songs (if not all) on this album tend to be of the same tempo and "feel", resulting in a dull listening. There are a few interesting musical moments here and there, but I probably wouldn't listen to this album in its entirety again because it gets - for lack of a better word - boring.
Many of the songs are a little too depressingly hopeful for me, following the theme of "guy who isn't feeling that great now but is always looking over the horizon." Not only that, but more often than not Mayer tends to come up with a hook and runs with it for an entire song. I imagine he thought the chorus for "Who You Love" would be catchy and meaningful, but instead the words "you love who you love, who you love" become annoying and the simple melody doesn't have enough lasting value to make the song interesting for as long as it is. Not only that, but while Mayer probably finds things like Katy Perry's laugh at the end cute, that sentiment probably won't be shared by everyone. Just one example of many lackluster things on this album.
John, you can do better than this, you have before and I hope you do again. Leave the country/roots stuff behind and go somewhere more exciting, even if it's not back to your Continuum sound, something you're capable of has to be more interesting than Paradise Valley.
Eugenahadrebag - A Touring Hiatus for the BetterWith the negative press and inappropriate interviews that put him in the tabloid spotlight in early 2010, John Mayer clearly saw the pressure get to his head and spent two years out of the limelight to clear his throat. Literally; he had to have two rounds of surgery to remove granulomas from an area near his larynx, forcing him to refrain from singing and even speaking until the Botox injected into his throat had done its job. This album represents the second phase of his self-rehabilitation, the first being his 2012 record. The question pondered by all was this: would three quiet years at his ranch in Montana give him the time to grow up and grow into his new sound previewed by Born & Raised?
Yep.
Mayer's latest effort is even slower than Born & Raised, but more confident; the best phrase to sum up the album is "sure-footed". It contains lessons learned from each of his past five albums, along with a newfound maturity unlike anything he has ever put out.
Paradise Valley opens with the unique track "Wildfire", a stark departure from anything he's ever done. It clearly shows southern roots, while still being a modern pop song with a positive attitude and catchy tune. It opens the album strongly and served as an excellent second single.
"Dear Marie" is a song written during the summer Born & Raised was released, and shows Mayer's scars about his former tabloid self. It's a very soft, reflective piece reminiscent of "Speak for Me" but with a beautifully layered finale similar to "Face to Call Home", two songs from his previous album.
"Waitin' On The Day" is the most grown-up, at-ease piece here, and sums up what Paradise Valley is all about. Its tremendously well-written lyrics, coupled with a steady beat and soft harmonies, is a personal favourite of mine, though it is a shame that the harmonica from the live studio version didn't make the final cut.
"Paper Doll", the first single, is the most glossy and produced song in the mix, though it contradicts the rest of the album; indirectly referencing former girlfriend Taylor Swift, Mayer puts himself back into the gossip scene rather than keeping mature and distancing himself from it. That said, it is the most radio-friendly track on the record and served decently well as a first single.
A cover of "Call Me the Breeze" by the late J.J. Cale is a highlight, with great guitar work and vocals. This is the most upbeat song on the album, and its placement in the tracklist is nicely done.
Katy Perry provides featured vocals on "Who You Love", another highlight and perfect candidate for a third single. The production value is second-to-none, and has the polished feel of "Paper Doll" along with the pop sound of "Wildfire". Perry contributes the second verse in her true, non-computerized voice, fitting when paired with Mayer's. A catchy tune, steady beat and sincere lyrics make this among the best tracks on the album.
"I Will Be Found (Lost At Sea)" is different in that it features mainly piano, a rarity in John's repertoire of songs. Though not particularly remarkable, the song is classic Mayer and somewhat serves as an epilogue to "Walt Grace" from Born & Raised. It bridges the musical gap between "Who You Love" and "Dear Marie" nicely.
Frank Ocean's vocals are startling on the interlude variant of "Wildfire", as he begins from the start and is never accompanied by Mayer himself. This track I found was very nice, though it didn't feel like it should be included on an album with Mayer's name on the front; it may as well have been another artist's song on another artist's album. I suspect it was simply inserted for artistic purpose.
"You're No One 'Til Someone Lets You Down" is one of the weakest tracks on the album, and is a stark, almost comical contrast to the deep and pondering previous song. It's a different sort of country, more akin to early Brad Paisley than anything from Born & Raised. This very twangy song is in a bizarre position within the tracklist, and serves little purpose toward the finished album as a whole.
"Badge & Gun" is the quietest, softest piece, with an almost sheepish tone to the lyrics and very nice layering. The song is among the slowest John has ever recorded, and recalls "Dear Marie" from earlier on in the album, bringing nice continuity. It also ties Paradise Valley to Born & Raised in terms of style.
"On The Way Home" is an extraordinarily good concluding track, with an uplifting spirit and warm aura. The way that every instrument perfectly compliments one another makes for a staggeringly polished song worthy of a Best Of list; it grows and settles and grows to create a lush, comforting musical landscape with lyrics that are among the most heartfelt ever written by John.
What makes Paradise Valley fascinating is that it is a confluence of every album Mayer has made to date. "Paper Doll" could have been on Room For Squares, "Who You Love" could have been on Heavier Things, "Call Me The Breeze" could have been on Continuum, "I Will Be Found" could have been on Battle Studies, and "Badge and Gun" could have been on Born & Raised. Every song besides those represents something new for Mayer, be it happy-go-lucky summer pop or sure-footed personal reflection. Whatever the case may be, Mayer is certainly settling into his new sound and image, and bringing a new level of much-needed maturity to his life. In three words, he's grown up.
Mattydees_____ - #mayerisbackJohn Mayer is back with a country infused, cowboy set of songs. While it may be different for fans of the soft-rock, old school Mayer, this album sticks right to the formula of Born and Raised. His blues guitar mastery shines through, as does his songwriting. Not his best, but still great!
supermec - Well John, you're getting awfully mellowGot all his albums so far. This one's a mistake. Well I hope for him. No juice. No blues, No rock. I just hope he's not over the hill and rake the cash in with his pretty boy look.
audreybeland - So movingJohn Mayer is always my very own therapy. I can't get enough of any of his albums and I fell in love again with this quite different but even more amazing one.
Braeden05 - Great Album!I love this album, songs like "Who You Love" and "Waitin' on the Day" really bring you close to John Mayer, he shares some insight with his fans on this album and it's really good! Buy it!
kiki1957 - ahemNot the best effort from him to date. His new sound is unspectacular, some good cuts but not ground breaking, when I think of John Mayer I think of Continuum, this pales in comparison.
Jojoskier1955 - AwesomeLike a fine wine John Mayer.... Like a fine wine!!!!! I've been a fan since the early days and continue to be awed by your talent and dedication to the art of being such a fine musician... Carry on, carry on......
yeldaeL - Paradise ValleyThis has got to be one of John Mayers best. Heartfelt lyrics, maturity and beautiful vocals. Love Who You Love is a favourite. No musician like him.
Bobjones1997 - Sounds great but..I pre ordered it on my phone but it wont download
Mindy_Van - MayerIsBack! From hearing the pre-released Paper Doll and Wildfire, I knew this would be a special album for John. Loving the evolution of his sound. MayerIsBack!
MylèneC - The wait worth it !I was a little bit worried about his voice, but it still incredible ! All the songs are so deep and so pleasant to hear. Thank you to you John Mayer for your talent and for this amazing record !
My God! Mister Mayer is now so boring⌠His first two albums were so great with great melodies and wonderful guitar hooks and beats. He had something to say then⌠Maybe a few years away could help...
siouxnation - Different PathJM has come a long way. Although his music style has taken a different path, his sultry deep voice and passion for his songs shines through. I can't lie and say I don't miss the style from his old albums, but I'm a faithful fan and have a deep appreciation for his music. I just saw him live in Toronto and while he played old songs and new, they blended well together. His music brings inspirational hope and peace to my life. Well done JM!
Amy G - Awesome!John Mayer is back! This new album builds off of everything that is great about Born and Raised with elements of his previous albums thrown in the mix. I personally love the new sound, and I hope he continues on this same path for years!
George M Bluth - Great Album! He keeps getting better, if you are a John Mayer fan, you won't be disappointed.
petergreen54 - HonestyWith these past two albums, Mayer has seemed to lay everything out on the line. Totally honest sounding albums with tremendous amounts of emotion shining through.
Not to mention the layers of true musicianship that Mayer always seems to pull together for everything he's ever put on the market!
tracadie - BeautifulJust saw John live in concert and i'm in love with him new sound. Such a great album, definitely one of my favourites of his.
Jonathanhelm - Down to EarthJohn Mayer has always had a very chilled, down-to-earth way of putting his songs together. No, this album is not as exhilarating as the John Mayer Trio's album Try but the songs on this album deal with a great amount of patience which is a much more effective tool in music than just shredding notes. I definitely recommend this album to anyone who is enjoys music that speaks rather than plays but I don't think that just anyone would love this music. It is very targeted music and can be hard to get used to after listening to John Mayer's previous music. It's kind of like shoes: they are a bit stiff and hard on your feet to begin with but after the first couple of days you'll learn to love them.
Heatha49 - Mr. John MayerOne word... Brilliant.
Casaletto2 - Good albumIt's okay. The singles released turned out to be the best songs on the album. Wildfire and Paper Doll are both very very good songs, and that makes the album for me. I also like the smaller version with Frank Ocean.
John Mayer has consistently produced good music, so kudos to him. But this album is good, not great. The other songs on it are just okay, with those two being the best by far.
xhabsfanx - Mayer is most definatly back!LOVE THIS!
David Downey - Paradise valleyBeen a really big John mayer fan for a long time and this cd rocks, will be listening to this for a while to come
Middletonk4050064 - AwesomeWhat a great album, amazing guitar playing, and awesome singing, great to relax to.
skidreamer - Wildfireawesome:)
elitebreed0627 - #MayerisbackThis album sounds amazing! My excitement just jumped through the roof when I ilistened to the previews for "your no one til someone lets you down" and "badge and gun"
beesquare - Never disappointsWay back in '02 when I heard my very first John Mayer song, I recognized immediately that I was listening to an artist with immense innate talent and longevity - and Mr. Mayer has yet to prove me wrong, evidenced yet again by his latest release, Paradise Valley. With each subsequent album, he has repeatedly demonstrated that he is a man fairly driven to create lyrically relevant, thoughtful, listenable, insightful, relatable, approachable, and beautiful music. And with each listen to Paradise Valley, I am moved ever further by its (and his) brilliance - not only as a companion piece to his cathartic and hauntingly beautiful Born and Raised, but as a stand alone masterpiece. John, you hooked me as a fan for life back in '02, and I'm still with you today, travelling the "road that (you) must run", and gazing with wide-eyed wonder into a silent, star-lit, desert night. The sun coming up over that distant horizon looks very bright indeed.
librarygirl28 - Wildfire! He has definitely gone more "country" with the last two albums, but they seem so much more honest than Battle Studies. There are a few songs that make me shake my head a bit, but I love the album overall. Wildfire and Who You Love will stand out, I think, but I'm eager to find more favourites from this great album!
Monique 24 - Beautiful! This is def one album that needs to be added to my collection. What great music! Thank you John!
Elaine Margaret - Paradise Valley<3Best musician ever and an amazing album! Can't get enough.
B McCrady - Stellar Understated MusicianshipMr. Mayer continues to mature. The call-and-response at the end of "Who You Love" between him and Katy Perry is probably my favourite moment on the album, or perhaps any of his albums for that matter. Of course Frank Ocean is flawless in his feature, although the placement of "You're No One 'til Someone Lets You Down" immediately afterwards threw me off a little bit. With Frank Ocean's deep and thoughtful phrasing on the 'Wildfire' reprise, the following track becomes rather comedic. That may be Mayer's intention, though.
In any case, - I'll be listening to this album well into the future and I've no doubt that repeated-listens will be very rewarding. Looking forward to the supposed final album in the trilogy of Country-laced records due out in 2014.
GramYams - Incredible!!Another home run. Absolutely beautiful. Can't wait for the next one!!
Elleb76 - Love it!Awesome!
Leah Findlay - Paradise ValleyLove it! Always something new with John. Simply fantastic!
simoncboyd - John Mayer is my Favourite ArtistI love how his music has progressed throughout his career. I just love his new album!
Cjhowe93 - Never ceases to amaze.Every track a brand new masterpiece, vocals and guitar medley's gliding gracefully from one to the next. Mayer is the only musician I need.
CaddyDrummer - John continues to improve with age & skillI didn't think I could love a John Mayer album more than Born & Raised, but then Paradise Valley was released. I have not yet heard the whole album and it's already my new favourite. John's style of writing with melodies and harmonies makes me feel like I'm on a road trip and in no hurry to be somewhere. I particularly love his new country flavor of music, not that I haven't loved the others. John just keeps getting better and better!
Onnie52 - ParadiseLove it love it love it from beginning to end. Who you love & paper doll are my favourites :-) well done John.
miss_sarah_90 - Awesome albumI absolutely love this album and everything mr John mayer does he can do no wrong in my books his songs are so amazing and this album is just beautiful everyone should listen to this album
Chendo96 - FlawlessParadise Valley is superb and so easy to listen to. John Mayer is amazing, and this album showcases his incredible talent.
maanex95 - Paradise Valley#MAYERISBACK
BrodyLachlan56 - !I am getting to like John's music so hopefully this record is good!!
//Sarah// - How Cute!Love his duet with Katy, it's so sweet. The rest of the album is amazing as usual!
mfdtc - 11/10!!John Mayer is one of the very few artists who continues to amaze me with his moving voice!!! Love this album!
Bueller 95 - Smooth, sweet and powerfulWhat do you get if you add smooth guitar licks, sweet melodies and powerful messages?
John mayer!!! He's got to be the most well rounded musician on the planet!
D-KG - Very catchy!Just played this in the car while cruising in this beautiful spring weather, it just completed the journey with its catchy yet relaxing tones, absolutely love it.
Benzumi - Yes!Yes Yes Yes. What an amazing transforming artist. This is laid back and tunefully done. Can't wait for full release.
Pejix Music Review - Great!Great album....lots of cool songs......released around the same time as the sad news of the legendary JJ Cale's death, I actually think the best song on the album is the cover of JJ Cale's "Call me the Breeze" ....could almost be a tribute to the legend!
secar6 - August 23rd cannot come quick enough!so excited for the release of this album.
wildfire has such a fresh, happy vibe and I'm sure paradise valley, like all mayer's work, won't disappoint.
this musical genius keeps evolving and is so refreshing amongst the manufactured pop of today.
albieussher - JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTERLove following John's musical journey... Love all his music, and he still continues to impress. Can't wait for full release!
Rawrgie - Paradise ValleyI am as much of a John Mayer fan as everyone else here, however this album was a complete let down. What I love most about Mayer is his way with words, I couldn't find anything clever in this album - it was just... Boring. I hope he doesn't keep on down this road, looks like I'll just keep playing Born & Raised on repeat.
Rosiekids - Paradise Valley - a big YES from me!This is the first John Mayer album I have listened to and now I am a convert. Beautiful tone and relaxed complement of great songs.
NotAllThoseWhoWander - Almost as goodA solid new album, mate. But I'm not sure if it lives up to the wondrous poetry of some of his previous works. My first opinion is that it's a little light-on, if you know what I mean.
It's easy to love John Mayer's music --in all its forms-- so Paradise Valley is definitely worth the buy, however I think it's missing a bit of that characteristic 'warm caramel' hit that I expect from all of his music.
Shelby the space dog - Has a great feelIt grows on me each time I listen to it. Another great album from John Mayer.
Toddyyy - Continuum John isn't coming back and that's ok.Look, when I saw another album cover that looked like very much the same vibe as Born and Raised, I have to admit my heart sank a little. Don't get me wrong, I really liked B&R, a lot, but I'm on of those John Mayer fans who has long been holding out hope of a return to Continuum form.
The thing is, I'm not sure if Continuum John Mayer is coming back at all. So it was a great outcome that from the moment I hit play on Paradise Valley, that fact suddenly seemed ok. This is skilfully crafted work from a proper musician, a genuine artist.
For John's part, it sounds like the man who documented so many perusal struggles during the Battles Studies period of his life has really found himself in a good place here.
tavalav - MAYER IS BACKi don't think john mayer will ever write a song i don't like. if the whole albums anything like wildfire and paperdoll, paradise valley may overtake continuum as my fav
Ninja B . - J.M you rock 23rd August 2013 by Ninja BYou are a legend. Your music is like a fine wine, just gets better
with age.đââ
Bx2bb - Paradise Valley!!!I'm so excited for this album! it sounds great!!! John please come to australia next year!!! XD
Gizman05 - BestEveryone should shut up saying " nah I wish it was more like continuum boo hoo" as a guitarist it's impossible to stay interested in one style , johns evolving get over it... He's a freakn god!
Eratik - Magnificent Mayer Delivers AgainIt goes without saying that John Mayer has himself a very loyal fanbase, many of whom have followed him right from the very beginning of his career when "No Such Thing" burst on to charts all those years ago. And its easy to see why his fanbase are so loyal. Mayer just doesnt disappoint with each release.
While this album might not have an immediate designed for radio hit single, it does have a finely crafted collection of songs that are just perfect for playing on a lazy Sunday one a fine sunny day. Taking on a little more of a country influence this time around, Mayer carries on from where Born And Raised left off. Having recovered from throat surgery in recent times, Mayer himself has stated that his voice isnt what it should be at the moment, and he currently has trouble hitting the high notes of songs like No Such Thing. Yet despite this, his voice seems to be in fine form here, even if it is in a slightly lower register.
This album is a must have for anybody who is John Mayer fan, and indeed for those who like good quality finely crafted songs with a story to be told.
client review - I was wrongCaptain America John has topped it again. His standard is perfection.
I don't know how he keeps it up. He's done it again. Sorry with my careless first incorrect review the new cd is excellent it rocks it smooth cool blues country originals as was the last one and pop cool blues perfection continuum. Amazing well worth every dime.best music made Johns the king. Bravo John, congratulations.
Is this only $10 now wow that's a bargain. I wish loyal fans like me got that discount :)
jcmfan - Evolved and enlightenedHe has gone full country on a few songs but it isn't overwhelming and just further shows the versatility of this man. Buy this album and enjoy a little piece of paradise.
sonicsguy - Bringin' back melodyRefreshing, memorable melodies...Mayer the musician!
Sophie Cross - AmazingBrilliantly Beautiful...relaxed, low key but up beat all in one! John Mayer is a musical wonder xx
ev.bee - I'm so excited for this album to come out!I have every other album of his and if it's anything like the others.... It'll be absolutely amazing. I'm so excited.
DynaNation27 - MayerfanJohn Mayer never disappoints!!! Can't wait for John to tour AUSTRALIA in 2014!! Keep the great music coming :-)
Minnaa Dinnaa - Love, love, love it!I'm 14, and I don't like the 'hip' techno songs. John is one of my favourite artists up amongst the kings and queens of music. Very eager to buy this album. Well worth the money, keep up the great work, John!
Tom3473366 - The man of many genres delivers another great album.I always admire an artist that can write and perform so many different genres. It shows excellent musicianship. This album is full of feel-good melodies that become stuck in your head in an instant. The guitar tones are brilliant. Very smooth tones. Mayer has delivered a wonderful album yet again. Thank you John for making days so much more enjoyable with your music!
riffmeister76 - Quality additionAnother quality easy listener from a super talented musician/composer
Lolobear is lonely - Meh..Has a few nice songs, but it's way too laid back and lazy for me now.
Born & Raised was better than this. Seems like a "take it easy while my voice recovers" album.
Luke_Mc - John Mayer has done it againDownloaded this album last night, John Mayer has produced another awesome album in my opinion. No fan will be disappointed
Pranay aka mister p - John MayerThis is soo soo good
Mr. Mike94 - Love it!!I LOVE this album :)
I have it on repeat at the moment!
Only thing is that it has Frank Ocean on it :/
But Katy Perry makes up for it!!
MikeJ76 - One up, one downJohn follows his usual pattern of releasing a killer album and then following it up with an average one. Unfortunately this is one of the latter. There's a couple of decent tracks, but a lot of it sounds like songs that didn't make the cut on Born and Raised.
Luke The Hobbit - MasterpieceThis is an amazing album that includes some of the most memorable songs of 2013!
Plus the mixture of genres in the music is really well done
THUMBS UP Mayer :)
Caleb Campion 12yrs - AmazingI am a massive fan of John Mayer and I loved him from when I only knew of Boprn and Raised and Paradise Valley. Every album he has made is different from the others, yet they are all masterpieces. Paradise Valley is a calming and breezy yet extravagant display of what John Mayer can do, and what he has done. Well done John, can't wait for your next album at the end of the year, I'm it'll be a ripper like the rest!
HayZ_______ - Mayer is Back!!! Best Album Yet!This is the most anticipated album of my life & it does not disappoint!
There is something so soothing in JM's songs, I love all the musical layers too. I have really connected to these songs & cannot WAIT for JM to tour down under! Hope he comes soon!
MaddieeeeeeeG - Will always love Mayer!A bit more country twang than previous albums but probably going to fall in love with it anyway. Mayer can do no wrong in my eyes. Enjoying being a part of his ever changing musical journey. Good on you John! Lifetime fan here.
Lilmia4 - Just. BeautifulJust love it . Feel good songs and reminds me of the first time I listen to John . I think. It will be big big big especially in the country scene as well .
Ydhsufhhjwizjc cool - Love. In love.John sings great. I love his music. Excited to have the duet with Katy and Him. Sounds perfect.
rightfootstep - DisappointingWas hoping for a little more than what this album gives. There's a few in the mix there that are really good and classic Mayer, but I came away unsatisfied for the most part. If I could get a refund then I would because this album's just not that great.
Alilea97 - I LOVE IT!John Mayer is just too good, I don't think he will ever write a song I won't fall in love with :) 'On the way home' is my favorite. But the whole album is just beautiful <3

Olivia x - CryingI am going to go and cry in a corner, this album is amazing, John is amazing. It's all too much I can't cope
Deejay_27 - mmm i want to like this butI cant!! I like all types of music but I have now played it 4 times and I still dont like it !! Will i like it in a few months time? Maybe!!
S.C0LE17 - MisunderstoodIll start by saying that this is not the john mayer i love. However i can say this is one of the best albums I've listened to. I loved the blues stuff but this has broadened my mind and ignited a love for a new genre. John mayer is NOT a writer and musician who plays what he's told. He plays what he wants. This is a great quality and must be respected. Great album.
GDavies12 - HmmmI'm not sure. Born and Raises and now this album sort of blend together in a folky kind of tone that I'm not sure i prefer. I adore his bluesy tunes in other albums so I hope this folky-ness doesn't hang around too long.
Routeqwerty - Paradise valleyVery good album, great lyrics and great music in general!
Only thing that let it down for me is wildfire with frank ocean..
Other that that.. Brilliant!!!
craig479821 - WOWFantastic album best album yet from John just buy it ;)
BeckyRogers - AmazingOf course it would be amazing for John to do another Continuum style album, but I'm not gonna whine about it while he's still making great music.
h1brd - An artist in its peakAn amazing album by a clearly mature artist. Smooth uplifting songs where jazz and blues meet country.
mandy midlands - John Mayer on a bad day is better than most the restNot to say this isn't a good album, it's better, more musically skilled and emotive than almost everything else out at the moment. But this is not his best. This is no Room for Squares, Continuum or Born and Raised and the saddest fact of all? People will only now become aware of him because he's dating Katy Perry and they will never know 'John Mayer - The Genius Years'.
That being said...this album is still pretty darn insanely good.
Stevieross - A change is as good as a rest....Yes, it's different to his other stuff, but beautifully so. The breadth of musicality is fantastic. Buy it and celebrate differences.
laweclay - Creative!I've been a fan of John Mayer since his first album and I have to say, this is his most mature writing yet! Despite people's complaints about the lack of guitar solos, there is plenty of melodic guitar throughout the album and at the end of the day, if its bluesy guitar you want then listen to "where the light is"! Katy Perry is also great on this, the style suits her better than her usual pop stuff! Easy listening album with deep profound lyrics with all kinds of metaphors and meanings, for all Mayer fans and those looking for something easy going - this album is well worth the money.
davegriff - Yawn MayerReally? By the time an artist releases a third disappointing album on the bounce, you have to start wondering if he's lost the thing that attracted you in the first place.
That's the case here. Born and Raised was just about ok, but this is just too bland for me. I'm not into country, and although 'who you love' is pretty sweet - I find it hard to believe this is the same man as the genius behind Heavier Things and Continuum.
I just hope he moves back to a busy city and/or has another terrible break up to write about next time.
Mikeywood81 - Awesomes soundsThis is John mayer for any fan, his awesome voice shines thru, more songs pls, love the old favourites but this is just more refined and great music
william901 - Brilliant!!!So many people are negative about change.
Change is natural. It shows growth and honesty. I personally love the new c.d. Great players, great songs, great everything.
John Mayer is the man.
J-90-B - A Versatile MusicianPeople will dislike John Mayer for not constantly writing music in the way he has in the past - Room For Squares (Pop), Continuum (Blues/Rock), Trio (Heavy Blues) and now more recently country - but that's what makes him grea! Although his music varies, it always has that John signature on it, slick guitar riffs and melodic vocal harmonies.
Paulnew - Off in search of a new guitar heroSorry I just don't get Mayer's new musical direction. He's one of the most innovative guitarists of his generation, yet on this album and the previous one he's off on this laid-back folksy trip - churning out the kind of middle of the road music which countless others are offering up. Such a disappointment.
KimberleyD87 - Born and Raised (Part 2)As the title of my review suggests, I believe this to be an extension of the work that was done on 'Born and Raised'. The sound is similar, if a little more closer to the traditional country sound.
Like all follow-up albums (See Radiohead's 'Amnesiac', Coldplay's 'Prospekts March EP' or Fleetwood Mac's 'Tusk') it suffers from having too little time between albums. That is not to say that it is a bad album... It follows on nicely from 'Born and Raised'. When playing through his back catalogue in chronological order, it would flow as if it were part of the same album. The problem is that where 'Born and Raised' was fresh and interesting, this is too familiar.
For those complaining that JM needs to go back to the bluesy sounds of 'Continuum' need to take another listen here. You could easily be fooled by the shuffling drums and the slide guitar that this is just a country album, but the guitar solos are more blues than anything from his 00's output - They are just in a new context.
The album feels really short. It deifinitely leaves you wanting more. The running time is within acceptable limits, but it flies by.
The album perhaps lacks the killer blow of previous albums, there is no obvious single (I am aware that 'Paperdoll' and 'Wildfire' have both been released, but they do not stand out from the crowd) and although most people seem to dislike those kind of songs on albums, they are necessary. Something to bring you back to the album. It is a slow-burner and will take a couple of listens. The lack of a solid single may mean that some of this album's audience will not appreciate it to its full potential.
Certainly not a misfire, but this album won't find it's way on to any list of Mayer essentials. For Mayer fans, this album is a 4-star. For those who aren't, then it is a solid 3.
Gold hard - InspirationalI cannot put into words the talent that John has in turning his hand to different genres of music but still retaining his own unique and totally brilliant style and musicianship which blows my mind every time. To the haters of his latest venture of course you are entitled to your opinions but you need the music of Mayer more than he needs you!! trust me!!
A-another - MehThe first John Mayer album I haven't wanted to buy. I keep coming back to it thinking I will fall in love with it but I haven't. I've purchased a couple of the songs but somehow the album misses the mark for me. It's not because it's not bluesy enough etc - I've loved all of his musical directions with Continuum and Born & Raised being top of my list. I really want to like this ... but I just don't.
jiwan360 - John Mayer at his bestI've yet to buy the album, but from what I've heard so far it looks like it's going to be a great purchase when I do.
Fodito - Excellent albumIt took me a couple of listens but I love this album now! Amazing first half with great songs one after another. Tracks, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 are great....
SuperJBone - Born & Raised in Paradise ValleyA great continuation from Born & Raised.
Paradise Valley marries together the direction Mayer is going with depth, colour, emotion and atmosphere.
On The Way Home and Waiting
on the Day are beautiful and I could listen to them over and over.
If you're a fan of his work so far, you cannot go wrong with buying this. It's brilliant.
Hams_ter - John never fails to entertainThis guy has always been this good. I don't even know why should be ever say anything bad about him and his music.
JDMRE - AmazingJohn has once again delivered in style. Different from his other albums as he develops further Into different genres, yet his musical talents are further explored and shown with this. Amazing, especially after all the problems he had with his voice it's great to hear him back in such style!
SheepyRFC - Love it love it love it!Guys just a legend! Paper doll is amazing! Thank you John Mayer!
Bentostheboy - Good but safeI think what some people are trying to say and others are failing to understand when albums such as Continuum are mentionned is that Mayer is a real talent and perhaps has been playing it a little too safe recently. This album is easy listening and well produced. Mayers vocal skills are clear as always but his ability to be one of the best guitar players in the world are less evident = shame. His JJ Cale cover Call Me The Breeze is probably the best song here given Mayers talent.........
leahrebek - Simply beautifulDiscovered John Mayer a few years ago and I am completely in love with his music. This album has got to be the best thing I have ever purchased. Dear Marie is so so so beautiful but my favourite is without a doubt On The Way Home, makes me want to live in America when I'm older. This album is an absolute must have, best John Mayer album!
Murdoch1111111 - Paradise ValleyThoroughly enjoying the album, and the slightly different sound it brings. Great songs, great melodies and lyrics that hit. Money well spent.
Tom_1991 - FantasticHave been waiting for this album for a while and safe to say it doesn't disappoint. Some people are saying its no good due to the fact it isn't his 'older' stuff but artists mature and find a sound and safe to say this is more than fantastic to listen to.
Fix the crashes.. - Love it!The blues-ey, country feel and the great musicianship make this irresistible listening..
Eargasm96 - FantasticThis album is a change yes so for all who have listened to the short snippets from iTunes and instantly make a judgement, bow your head in shame. Yes it is a change but all artists change if you don't like it don't listen look at bands such as fleetWood mac who completely changed after rumours for tusk due to Lindsay Buckinghams wondering mind. Change is good if you heard 3 songs of continuum and consider yourself a fan well I'm sorry but your not in the slightest.
Callow1 - BrilliantThe best album I've purchased in a long time. I think it's better than Born and Raised, bluesy and slightly country.
John Mayer's style is like a fine wine, improving with age.
Adam Fiske - Enjoyable but no Born & RaisedIt has its moments of genius but sadly it feels a little rushed and incomplete. Born & Raised is too good an act to follow this time I am afraid and i think a little more time could have been needed to meet the exceptional standard we are used to getting from John Mayer.
Roo01 - So much feelingI haven't been so touched by an album in years. Thank you John.
suzi2209 - IncredibleSuch an amazing album! I like the country feel to this album which still promotes johns amazing talent and songwriting! Still on replay.
MCMilo - My wife bought this......it stinks. Awful. Avoid at all costs
lawrence.lanle - A new territory for John MayerParadise Valley is most definitely not the new Continuum. But that by no way means it is any slouch either.
Paradise Valley is a very heartfelt and mature album along with Born and Raised with a softer jazz vibe with a tiny bit of country added to it.
John Mayer fans should not dwell on comparisons to Continuum but to embrace his musical journey across multiple styles and genres as Paradise Valley is a very fine album.
Iflhfkxjxjv - BRILLIANT!!!Ugh John Mayer just never fails to impress, this album is flawless!!!
BeckyWarbis - Amazing!Such a good new album. Very chilled! Holiday music for my boyfriend and I:)
Speedbird17 - Nice Follow-up to Born & RaisedNice to hear some country/bluesy tones throughout the album. Really enjoyed Born & Raised so it's good to hear that's Mayer is sticking to that formula. Great little summer album! Keep up the good work!
Aimevans - love it!!I will be found and who you love are definitely the best songs on the album. Would definitely recommend, he never fails to create a perfect album. x
rocklegend40 - Negative ReviewsThis is what this is for give an opinion so people can see how its fell to someones tastes. Lot of the negative reviews here though just dont seem to get it. Lets have the same album all in a row - why? What I would say is this album feels quite emotional and laid back. In a world full of demands and violence and greed this feels a nice thing to sit back to and relax. Good for John but listen to the samples and make your own mind up.
Tesladays - Pretty good return to form for JMThis is pretty good return to form for John. The understated vocals suit the overall mood of the album with shades of JJ Cale and Little Feat. A little more Americana than "Born & Raised" but the song writing is strong with a lovely cover of Call me the Breeze. Might not suits those fans who prefer John's more commercial releases but this shows an artist working his craft.
I think John probably missed the opportunity to road test this material during his vocal rest period as the arrangements seemed quite safe. All in all, good to have John back.
Jgau - Why are you going backwards John?I have been a long time fan and even went on the Mayercruise. If this had been the first album I would never have bought it. I only bought it because I am going to the 02 gig and need to know the music. I hope John does not play any of this stuff tho. Seems like John has played his best stuff in past albums. This is soft country. Come on John where's the guitar, the rock, the blues and the enthusiasm? Boring!!!
AJRedfern - Another side to John! Here's another side to John, been following him since his very first album, this just shows no matter what style of music he creates he can master it! Brilliant album!
macason23 - Fantastic!Seriously people! This album is incredible, no it's not the same as Continuum like sooo many people have said, but I like the new direction Mayer has gone in, he's a very talented man and capable of many different genres, I welcome the change and the chance to listen to what else he can do. The same old thing again and again gets boring and if you go buy this album with an open mind and not expecting it to be like earlier albums of his you wont be disappointed! I'd say 70% of the songs on this album are hits! Well done John!

SuziB2 - Easy listeningI don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to on this occasion. Great voice and lyrics. Just as good if not better than his earlier stuff. Worth buying.
JohnMarkArnold - So Good! This is another album that just shows how versatile John Mayer is and he nailed it.
MattAHenry - Absolutely in love!Paradise Valley is a brilliantly written country/blues album. Every song is top notch. From the very first song 'Wildfire' it feels like you're sitting in the Wild West. Mayer has proven himself again to be one of the best singer-songwriters, America has ever produced. This album doesn't disappoint.
