I can't really say much about this soundtrack other than it's magnificent. The music is great, and the singing is marvelous. One easily falls in love with the characters just from their voices!

Simply amazing

I adore Rent. It became my absolute favorite broadway show before I was even done watching it. I will admit that I came across the film first, seeing the show afterwards. And I was disappointed. The original broadway cast is lacking. I personally think that both Roger and Mark got better with age, as did Angel, Maureen and Collins. Not only that, but the new Mimi and Joanne bring powerhouse vocals that the Broadway show wishes it had. Also, this version eschews many songs I find to be unnecessary (All voice mails). All around, this is an amazing version of Rent that blows the original version out of the water.

I seriously love this album. I suggest you buy it. It's totally worth it!

Amazing. Sometimes I get teary-eyed just LISTENING to Cover You (Reprise). I love this movie and the soundtrack.

I remember being unimpressed with the motion picture and some scenes in it but the musical performances in this film were outstanding making this soundtrack worth listening to! I thought that Rosario Dawson had a better voice than Daphne-Rubin Vega and played a strong performance of Mimi and that Tracie Thoms played a more exciting Joanne than Fredi Walker. Anthony, Adam and Idinas voices grew stronger that I grew fonder of this recording. Also Jesse, Taye and Wilson were their amazing selves again! The movie had some extremely weak direction but the music is worth listening to! It's even better than the OBCR!

Love it. Absolutely amazing. I heard the original broadway version a little bit before I had heard/seen the movie, but I can honestly say I prefer the movie soundtrack. Watching a broadway show and seeing the performance along with the music is very different than just listening. For just listening with no visuals, I prefer this version because I feel like it's much cleaner, and I personally am not scrutinizing it as much, but if you can buy both, go for it.

This movie and album only needs one single word to explain it, and that word is....AMAZING!!!!!! It has amazing actors, music, plot, amazing everything! So yeah amazing

Ballads of rock... the songs won't make a lot of sence if you don't see the movie or musical first, so, beware! I love the song "Goodbye Love" the most, just because if tells such a powerful story. Just see the movie/ musical first, so you don't get confused listening to it!

I loved the movie and so did my kids. They were teens and middle schoolers when it came out. I had the CD and now I have bought the digital album.

Favorite broadway play beside 13

It's very good, but the broadway show captures more of the message and the energy of what Johnathan Larson wanted. This is quite good though, Rosario Dawson does have a very sweet voice, I just wish they didn't edit it so much. The other new cast member, Tracy Toms, was in the last show of rent on broadway in 2006 as Joanne and was amazing. They edited Rosario too much, but Tracy sounds basically the same. As for the others, Idina, Anthony, Jesse, Wilson, they changed their voices to sound alot more... movie soundtrack. People, this is nine years after the original broadway opening night. They edit it too much, I wish they didn't do that. The reason why the OBC members sound like they do on the broadway version is, because they edited their voices to sound more... "movie". Let's face it. Broadway and movies are too VERY different sounding things. Seasons of Love- Very good. No changes except that instead of the company it's just the eight friends. And they all sound great. Rent- They removed some of the parts from the broadway version, but this version is just okay. You'll See- More removing parts of the song. But Taye Diggs sounds great. One Song Glory- Personalluy, I like this version better than the broadway version, only because Adam's voice got much better over time. No changes made in this song. Light My Candle- Sure, Rosario doesn't have the voice that Daphne did, but her voice is very relaxing in this song. Daphne's voice just fit the character more. Today 4 U- Some words are changed, which I did notice because they changed the WHOLE storyline in the movie, but Today 4 U is still upbeat and fun and introduces Angel very nicely. Tango Maureen: Tracy and Anthony sound great. Some parts ARE taken out, but the longer notes "in the end you can't leave her" and "you pretend to believe her" have alot more power. Life Support- VERY VERY VERY edited. It should have been called No Day But Today (intro) / Life Support. Out Tonight- If you like a more movie voice, a more trained voice to be moving to different notes, you 'll like this. Lines where she says "if you get in me" and others like that it sounds very different, in a good way. This version sounds more sexy and fun while the OBC version still sounds sexy, but Daphne is, supposed to be drunk, which I don't think Rosario did/knew. Another Day- Adam, to me, doesn't sound as good as he did in the broadway version. However he still can hit the notes and he still sounds good. Rosario sounds... pretty good. Will I- Exactly the same as the OBC version and it sounds just as good. Santa Fe- Jesse has alot more energy in this version. The OBC version did not have Roger in it, and it didn't take place on a subway. But the movie version was very good because Jesse had alot more energy. I'll Cover You- It has a word change, but they still sound great together. Over The Moon- Idina, why are you so edited? She sounds lifeless and has no energy. I prefer the broadway version. La Vie Boheme- Some edits, but it still sounds very good, they didn't do as good as a job as the OBC but still it sounds okay. I Should Tell You- Once again, they have alot more... more love tone in this song. In the OBC version they sound scared, which is one of the points of the song. But it's also a love song, and they make it sound more "love". I prefer this version to the original. La Vie Boheme B- Some changes but still sounds very good. Seasons of Love B- Originally in the play, they sung the first Seasons of Love. But it sounds good in this soundtrack, at least. Take Me or Leave Me- I prefer this version, because they didn't edit them for the movie in this track, and Tracy just sounds/does Tracy better than Fredi did. Without You- Daphne and Rosario's versions are completley different. Daphne sounds like she is dying, because Mimi is, while Rosario just sounds depressed. Both versions will take your breath away. I'll Cover You (reprise)- SOOOO much slower than the OBC version, both version are awesome. The OBC version has a company member sing, but in the movie Joanne sings. I think both versions really capture everyone's pain, all the sorrow they feel for Collins. Halloween- Once again, edited and was cut from the film. The OBC is better but this version is just... okay. Goodbye Love- The anger, the tension, the sorrow, the pain... most of it I couldn't hear in this version. The only time I could feel sorrow was at the very end when Rosario sung. The fight between Anthony and Adam is so lifeless here. It was also cut from the film. The openeing, where they are all fighting, sounds lifeless. The only good part is after Anthony and Adam are done fighting. What You Own- Sounds alot like the OBC, and I prefer both because this one sounds very good and the OBC does as well. Finale A- Edited. Your Eyes- There were some mistakes made in the OBC version, and I prefer this version, because the pain and sorrow is more captured in this version than th OBC. and like I said, Adam sounds better at some points in the movie. FInale B- SHOULD be titled No Day But Today. But still, it's very good captures the happiness and joy they feel, as so did the OBC. Both versions are great. Love Heals- I love it! Johnathan wrote it while writing RENT. He wrote it for a hospital. I personally LOVE this song so much and it is so powerful! So basically, if you like movies, buy this. If you like broadway shows, listen to this and buy the OBC recording.

This movie/live performance was what originally got me into musicals. I think it's a very moving peice and the movie cast are amazing actores and singers. I would say I did not like the modern art peice that Maureen did in the movie but other than that it's very good stuff. It's very sad the creator pass on before the first liver performance.

I have loved the movie and sound track since the age of 3 and just recently was in a production of la bohme (for those of you who do not know what that is it is the opera rent was based on) I love it!!!!! It express how life should be lived!

This album is absolutely amazing and I believe it is quite an improvement from the broadway cast recording which is still and amazing album but I believe that Mimi in the broadway cast recording wasn't a fit to the character and overall did not have that good of a voice compared to Rosario Dawson. These songs are all amazing Idina Menzel has clearly improved on singing since Wicked and if it was even possible sounds way better then in original recording and take me or leave me is preformed amazingly. Adam Pascal is an AMAZING singer in one song glory and makes it seem so easy. I also think that "I'll cover you" sounds much better in the movie

I love this album and movie SO. MUCH. My fave song is probably I Should Tell You or La Vie Boheme =) But anyway, it's a PHONOMENAL musical and it's now officially one of my all time favorites. PLEASE BUY! =D

Love it so much it is amazing

I love rent all the music is so beautiful. However the album is quite expensive, I believe I only spent $12.50 when I bought the movie.

I remember when the movie came out (I was in 8th grade), my friends and I were OBSESSED with it. Ten years later and I might just be the only one who still listens to the soundtrack (or at least a song or two) almost every day. The music is so beautiful and is alongside such an emotional story! No matter how many times I listen to this album it always makes me feel something so deep. I still get teary eyed during finale b and will I. It actually makes me sad that the movie is ten years old. I wish it was still in theaters and popular because I miss seeing it everywhere and geeking out about it. Buy this soundtrack! it's so wonderfully done and I love it so much! I will always be a Rent head for ever and ever.

Well, does anyone really have words for it? What an amazing show. Even after Mr. Larson's death, this super awesome show lives on. I beilive it will be around for a long, long time. <3 Thank you Johnathan Larson, not only for wrting the show but for making this big an impact.

The songs fit perfectly with the emotions of the story. I absolutely ADORE this musical. One question - Why the hell did they cut "Goodbye Love" from the movie?? Especially the part sung between Roger and Mimi...it's honestly one of my favorites. Such an emotional moment. It's short and probably not crucial to the story but it makes me sad they cut it.

I bought this soundtrack right after I bought the movie, although I don't understand why this one is more expensive than the original broadway cast recording seeing as this one has less songs. I'm happy they included the full version of Goodbye Love and Halloween, BUY IT!!!! forget regret.

The movie is amazing, although it gets kind of confusing. The songs, on the other hand, are simply astounding. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE La Vie Boheme, and I Should Tell You. Oh, and Finale B. That's probably my absolute favourite. Oh, and Rent (the song)! Okay, I love them all. Go watch the movie!

When my friends first foeced me to watch rent, i was furious. Now i can't stop singing the songs! I loved it. I know all the songs and LOVE them. I think rent was one of the best movies and soundtracks ever! You don't even need the movie. the songs tell the whole story.

this cd is really amazing. every single song is beautiful, catchy, and interwoven with every other song. some of my favorite songs are 'you'll see' because of the amazing vocals, 'tango: maureen' because it really just makes you want to get up and dance, 'la vie boheme' because....theres just too many reasons to love this song, and my absolute favorite 'what you own' because of how well their voices work together in harmonies. very uplifting song. watch rent, buy rent. listen to the clips, then buy these songs!

I would say that I'm a "small C" conservative in most off my social thoughts. That said, I saw the play, with my wife, on Broadway, then again a few years later, when it came to my city in central Canada. We went to see the movie with friends in December 2005. For the avenue of celuloid versus live theatre, the movie was just as good as the live play. Sometime in your life you have to see either one.

Jonathan Larson's musical masterpiece lives on. What else can you expect from this cast? Six of the eight Original Broadway Cast (OBC) reprising their roles, the two new additions mesh perfectly into the fold. It's like listening to the OBC production, just updated. Favourites include: I'll Cover You sung by Collins & Angel; One Song Glory sung by Roger; La Vie Boheme sung the cast; What You Own sung by Roger & Mark; Finale B sung by the cast; Love Heals sung by the cast.

If you want to hear the true Rent you should definitely buy the original broadway cast recording. The movie cut out about 10 songs and doesn't have the same punch that the broadway version does. It's still good, just no where near as good :D
