This is the album that made her the “Material Girl”. After this album was released everyone knew who Madonna was and she was just getting started. This was huge for her and it wasn’t often that an artist was able to have thousands of people dress like them at the time. She became the biggest sex symbol of the 80’s. Such an iconic album and that artwork will never get old and young artists are still trying to reach this amount of potential today.

Like a virgin was a defining moment for Madonna and the sounds of the album are still catchy to this day.
It's too bad this bonus cd doesn't include the U.S. 45 release of Angel on it. The single version runs a few seconds less and in my view is a much better one than the LP, but I have not found it anywhere. If you're aware of it somewhere on cd, then let me know! thanks

Best album of the 80s (besides thriller)! This album made her into an mtv icon. You couldnt turn on mtv without seeing material girl or like a virgin. material girl- best song on the whole album and my favorite madonna song! never gets old no matter how much i listen to it! angel- I cant believe this song didnt do better, its a very cute song like a virgin- this song put madonna on the map, very catchy and i love the music video over and over- hyper song, great to listen to while jogging love dont live here anymore- way better than rose royce's version, very nice dress you up- very catchy song used for a couple ads shoo be doo- her voice sounds so young in this one! makes you wanna dance! pretender- shouldve been released as a single! very awesome dance song! stay- kinda sounds like a 50s song. very nice and fast tho...

Love this album, one of my favorites<3
Her best album .... Of all time!
Note: iTunes won't allow half stars, but in actuality, my star rating for this album is 3.5 stars out of 5. Now, while "Like a Virgin" isn't as great as Madonna's predecessor "Madonna", it still is a good album. The ballads are definitely charmers (especially "Love Don't Live Here Anymore"), and the dance floor hits pack a punch ("Material Girl"). Also, the lyrics are surprisingly fresh and lively. Although, the missing 1.5 stars is because while this album accomplishes what it sets out to do, it could have been better. Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good album and I'll replay it many times, I just thought it lacked a spark. Madonna, keep up the good work!

FYI - this CD was released in 1984. Anyone who gave this work of art a bad review must not've been born when it came out or was too young to understand it's greatness. After reviewing clips from her other 10 studio releases (MDNA to be the 12th), this truly has to be her best in that every song is perfect. Produced by two of the greatest - Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards who also produced for Chic, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross and Debbie Harry to name a few. Everyone must remember, this music happened in a time with a lot less technology and when life was real. Very few people owned computers, there was no WWW, no cell phones and no flat panel TV's. There was no iTunes, no iPods and CD's were just starting to become popular. Even though we've come a long way since then, listen and enjoy this classic piece of music history!! NOTE: Into the Groove is not included on this listing as it was not on the original CD/LP. It can be found on the "Celebration" compilation.

We all know the monster tracks. Like a Virgin. Material Girl. Dress You Up. But the album tracks are just as strong. Maybe not as radio friendly, but memorable none the less. This might not be the big M's best album (for me, that's Like a Prayer), but it's essential.

It is truly an amazing album me and my mom love it.
One may argue this album has aged poorly due to the general public's taste changing, however I would not hesitate to argue it was never even good, it is just as irritating and meaningless as the overpowering majority of pop music today. Don't be blinded by nostalgia, bad music has always excited
She sounds like an 8 year old girl and the songs are pretty bad. I have one of the songs for some reason (don't know why) but I don't like it.

A cute album, a young Madonna experimenting with her sound and figuring out what how she wanted to make her mark. Its a good album with good, cute songs that you can dance and sing along to. You should buy this album!
I love all these songs!!!! Stay was the first song I downloaded from this album and it's still my favorite!!!! Oh and...P.S. Into The Groove is on Madonna's You Can Dance and Celebration albums if you're looking for it. Into The Groove was never apart of this album!

I have just checked my old vinyl copy of this album, and "Into The Groove" is the first song on side two. That would place it between "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" & "Dress You Up" on this version of the release. Why the omission? It is one of the best tracks on the album.

Chic member Nile Rodgers was not as well known then as the super producer to the stars he is now, but Madge puts in a great act herself. Growing up with this, the impact of her star had not yet risen the giddy and enduring heights that it has now, almost 3 decades later. Pop hits such as "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin" were hugely popular, but listening to the cover of Rose Royce's "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" truly shows that this girrl had supreme talent all those years back. Still Great. A must to rediscover, no matter how 80's the cover shot reminds us.

This is the original 1984 release so it does not contain `Into the Groove' which was included in the re-release of the album in 1985.
