Full-disclosure... I'm a good friend of Vin Scialla’s. That being said, I've been more in the rock n' roll camp most of my life, only recently venturing into jazz drumming (which of course, has improved and informed my rock playing).  Suffice to say, I'm no jazz expert, but I know what I like and I really like this music. I've seen these guys fill a club in New York, with a wide audience of listeners.  Wake Up! is the title of the album and that sets the tone for the music inside.  Very upbeat and (dare I say) Rockin'! Wake Up! is in steady rotation in my iTunes, as I learn more about jazz and enjoy the ride. AP

As the cover art suggests, these guys are carrying on the tradition of classic Blue Note albums in a way I think does their jazz forebears proud. The compositions run the gamut from swing to adept use of Middle Eastern grooves, with Scialla providing a perfect rhythmic bed for the horns to soar, and Charette’s super cool B3 adding a nice texture throughout. All the musicians are tasteful soloists too, and complement each other the way all the great jazz combos were known for. This album is an excellent addition to any jazz fan’s collection, as well as to the neophyte. Highly highly recommended!
