It’s incredible how during 2020 she released two of her best albums lyrically. Every song on this album is special, and champagne problems, gold rush, ‘tis the damn season and tolerate it are literal masterpieces!

I adore champagne problems and tolerate it, but I’m not sure she needed to release this one. It’s not as good as folklore (in my opinion) and had some repetition in the songs. But it’s still a good album, it’s just below Taylor’s “queen of pop” status.

I was not a fan of Folklore but evermore is amazing. It is just as thoughtful and emotional as Folklore but snappier and more optimistic in some ways. These would be the songs I'd listen to if I had an unforgettably bad experience but would rather look forward to the future. There's not a bad song in this collection.

Ms. Swift has done it again. Every song is so different from the other yet sounds cohesive. The lyrics, the vocals and everything on this album just speaks volumes of why she’s a legend. Seems so effortlessly ethereal, so nostalgic yet never felt before. The collaborations on this album seems so effortless, all of them are on the same page, same page about everything. It doesn’t feel forced they’ve maintained the integrity of it which is one of the best things about this album. The song ‘champagne problems’ is gotta be one of the best songs in the record coz of the instrumentals, vocals and she wrote it alone with joe. Swift pays tribute to her grandmother Marjorie with the same title. The prelude of ‘no body, no crime’ had a hint of her old song ‘Tim McGraw’. Also Swift needs to write a novel at this point. People might not get familiar enough with this record if they haven’t listened to folklore properly yet. In a way folklore prepares one for this record.

After the surprisingly beautiful and thoughtful Folklore I was expecting Taylor Swift’s next album to step back into familiar pop territory. Instead the surprise release of Evermore reveals that the nostalgia, thoughtful and melancholic tone of Folklore is here for a little longer and it’s fantastic. 2020 is not all that bad after all.
Folklore is a masterpiece and it’s hard to believe she would top that album with one she had written in under 3 months. This album is the best of her career.
Taylor never disappoints ✨ what a beautiful record
I may have to expand on this review in future as I get more familiar with the material, but after three listens I’m already convinced that this truly is the sister to the sublime ‘folklore’ album released a bare five months ago. While at times some tracks may lack musical colour on first listen, Taylor’s lyrics are as fierce as ever. ‘tolerate it’ is spine-tinglingly good and already in competition for the best of her best songs. What a wonderful surprise to have an album drop like this when typically we wouldn’t have expected another for at least a year. From the opening notes of ‘willow’ I was transported and at times transfixed by the breadth of storytelling, the universality and yet frank intimacy of the lyrics. There are moments of humour too like on the Haim-accompanied ‘no body, no crime’. Also good to see Justin Vernon reprise his role as duet on the title track which ends the ensemble on such an optimistic note. Simply wow.

evermore is folklore’s more complex little sister. It’s definitely a grower and took me longer than folklore to get my head around but on the second listen it was clear she’s just as iconic. The album is similar enough to folklore to be connected, but stands beautifully in its own right also.

This is the hopeful, younger sister to folklores eldest, world weary sister. It’s blooming lovely! Usually the track 5s are my favourites because I like to feel like someone is stabbing me in the back whilst I cry. I love the pain. I love track 5 here but Gold Rush, Long Story Short, No Body No Crime, evermore and willow own my heart. Gods I spent this morning in tears at her brilliance. Two quarantine albums from her and I cannot believe it. It doesn’t feel real. 2020 may have been a dumpster fire for everything else but damn if it hasn’t been the best year to be a Swiftie!
